Highly recommended. You'll get to see one of the mummies, if you so choose (there's an option to walk around that specific part, avoiding the sight) The self-guided visit offers an English version of the storyline. Bear in mind it's really cold in summer inside this museum, you should grab a ligth jacket to wear. Foreign visitors paid around 7 US dollars entry fee. No pictures are allowed.

It might seem expensive by Argentinian standards (8000pp for foreigners) but it's well worth it! The artifacts are incredibly well preserved and the colours are still bright! The mummies are incredible and look as though they could wake up at any moment. Descriptions in both Spanish and English

I am so lucky i got to see the maiden on display when i was there. I heard about her when she was first discovered and always wanted to see her. The best preserved mummy in the world. Fantastic. They have 3 mummies and only one is on display at a time. All are great. I only wish i could take photos but I understand it is for the preservation and i respect that. Definable worth a visit.

Was a fair amount in English but some still to be translated. Fascinating how well preserved the young girl was. Photos aren’t allowed inside. The museum is very small but you can spend at least an hour there if you don’t rush it.

The experience was really good. It is really shocking to see the mummies in real life. The atmosphere is very well designed. I recommended to buy the tickets through the webpage because otherwise you have to wait a lot to buy it.

A trend setting experiment in human preservation, the MAAM takes us back to the times of the Inca Empire in Northern Argentina, giving us a glimpse of a state that rose from the shores of the Pacific to the tips of the Andes. This is not just about showing one of the best preserved mummies on the planet, it's about narrating her journey to the gods.

Spent about 10 minutes inside. As a tourist, I had to buy a ticket online and register on another site without English options. The ticket itself is like 3$ cad so very affordable, but... Even if you register online and have your ticket, you still get in the same line as everyone else buying a ticket that day... Makes no sense!

Very interesting museum, with beautiful artifacts. It's very cheap, especially considering you get to see a uniquely preserved mummy. Due to Covid, you need to make a reservation in advance, which you can do online (you pay when you enter, so it can still be paid in cash).

It is a very small museum, but is extremely interesting it shows alot about the Inca empire culture and how the origin tribes of the Andes used to leave. All is done through the exposicion of the finding of the 3 kids sacrificed into the Volcan peak. The entree fee is 300 peso, the whole visit takes half an hour. but definitely worth it.

Beautiful little museum built around the discovery of 3 mummified children in a volcano near Salta. Only one child is displayed at a time, but there are many displays of the items found with the children. There are several short, informative videos with English subtitles that provide the history of the find, the preservation of the children, and basic information about the original people.

Please visit to learn about local tradition of murdering children in the most cruel way, burying them alive at the top of frozen volcanoes a journey of months away from their homes. The written material in museum, even the name of the museum itself, attempts to minimize and defend the practice adding context like "some of the children came from rich families" [as if that matters] and pontificating about the children going willingly to the top of the frozen volcano and into their murder hole - evidently written by people without any experience with actual children.

A great place not to be missed in Salta! It is quite small but gives a lot of information about the Inca history and traditions and has many very well conserved artifacts. But the most important part of the visit are the three amazingly well conserved mummies of children buried more than 500 years ago. The museum is directly connected to the conservation laboratory which keeps the mummies under controlled environment to preserved them.

No photos allowed inside museum, so only photos are of dogs sleeping happily in reception! Remarkable story, with recovered evidence, of Incas sacrificing children on 20,000 feet mountain tops. Remarkable artefacts, good final film. But lots of material not translated into English, or could have been five stars.

Once you get past the creepy aspect of the human sacrifice, this is a must see museum in Salta. Extremely rare exhibit of the mummy’s of children extremely well preserved. And a detailed intimate glimpse into the Inca civilization culture.

Its a small but very nice museum. It helps you unserstand more about the incas and their culture. In the end of the exhibition you can see an inca mummy.

  • 5/5 John P. 2 months ago on Google • 12 reviews New
There is, for want of a better turn of phrase, a roster for the children sacrificed on the mountain top. The child whose body was struck by lightning was available to see when we were there. It is important to remember that, whatever our current beliefs, some no less mistaken or bizarre, this child, perfect in her own way, went to die for the safety of her people. Go, see her or her companions, but please, remember to respect her courage and her ultimate sacrifice for her peoples. Salta is worth visiting if only to see, and pay your respects to, these extraordinary young people. In passing the cultural insights offered by this museum are certainly worth seeing independent of the children. Would I travel to Salta for the reason of the rest of the museum alone? No. If in Salta would I consider it an error not to go? Yes. The children, frozen in body and time, make the journey across Argentina absolutely worth while. Just, when you go, pause to consider the enormity of her sacrifice and use that as a window to consider your own life perhaps.

The mummy is impressive, but the exhibit is expensive and small. Unless you have a really strong interest in archaeology, you'll be done in about 5/10 minutes. You only see one of the 3 mummies as they're rotated every 6 months. I'd personally save my money and look at an image on Google - bit of a let down really. Asked for my money back but no luck - stay outside and enjoy the beautiful architecture of the city instead!

  • 5/5 Anto N. 3 years ago on Google
Excelente. La gente suele pasar toda la muestra solo para llegar a los niños pero se pierden un monton de información muy valiosa sobre la cultura. Recomiendo leer todo y ver los objetos en exposición. No se puede sacar fotos.

Of you want to check the Inca's history is a must. The price is cheap and you can see mommies in a perfect conservation.

  • 4/5 Lucas F. 11 months ago on Google
It's not too big but very interesting if Inca culture attracts you. Relatively cheap (I paid $1200 as a foreigner; argentinians, people from salta, and people with disabilities get increasingly high discounts, disabled people paying nothing). They only expose one child's mummy at a time, you can know in the entrance which is it. The only CON I must say is that not only is it too dark at times, but also, you're not allowed to take pictures AT ALL. They say it's for preservation (what harm can a camera without flash cause? Not more than a human breathing carbon dioxide inside a room, hm?), I think it's to keep the inside a "secret" so they keep attracting tourists. Overall it was interesting, and I'm not that much into archeology and anthropology — for those people it will be even more enjoyable for sure.

Simply fascinating, some museums are just interesting in themselves and do not need to be huge or fancy. This one is one of them, the objets found with the children of Llullailaco are present, as well as one of the children (in our case la doncella). There is also another mummy called the queen of the hill, that is as scary as Rascarcapac in Tintin!

  • 3/5 elisa t. 1 year ago on Google
Ok museum with interesting tho limited information on Incas. The highlight of the exhibition (the 3 mummies) is actually a little below expectations since it hyped the three children but actually show just one.

It is a great museum. What a pity that not everything is translate to english. You can buy an english guide in the shop, I missed this because when I asked at the ticket office they ensured me that everything is traslaze in english and the guide cost more than the entrance. Still it is really worth it.

It is really impressive to see the mummies in such a good state. It was just as if the girl was only sleeping. The grave goods even seemed to be almost new. This gives a great insight in the Andean life.

Interesting museum about traditions long forgotten. Mostly about a path of children that were to be sacrificed. One of three mummies is always on display. The best are the two girls, the boy is a bit less interesting to see.

THE thing to do in Salta. The museum gives a great overview in both Spanish and English of the Inca traditions related to human sacrifice. There are many displayed objects, and at the end you see one of the three children. Super interesting to see. Don't miss on the second floor the "queen" another mummy who was not cared for when she was looted in 1920. It takes less than one hour.

They accept the international student card (ISIC) so I was able to enter for the students fee (70 pesos) even though I am a foreigner - I really appreciate that. The museum is very well organized, it goes in one direction so you can be sure you won't miss anything. It tells the story of the children in a very smart way, first talking about the circumstances and the habits of the Incas, gradually getting to the child shown at the moment. In February 2019, The Boy was being exhibited (they always show only one child at the time). Almost everything is written bilingually (Spanish and English). It's quite cold inside (for logical reasons) so I recommend taking some extra clothing.

One of the most interesting museum I have ever seen. It takes 20-30 min to look read the information. They exhibit one mummies if children at time i think. We have seen the little boy. Its fascinating. Just 200 pesos.

  • 5/5 Jack R. 2 months ago on Google • 6 reviews New
Pua nice, the mummies change every while mind so don’t expect to see them all.

  • 5/5 Mateo Heymo O. 3 years ago on Google
One of the (if not THE) most interesting museums that Salta has to offer. The layout of each of the showcases was neatly organised, as well as the information describing them. The entirety of the museum has descriptions in both Spanish and English, which makes it easily approachable no matter where you're from. The place is, as expected, spotless and they fully respect Covid-19 protocols. Under the current circumstances, you need to book in advance if you want to visit it and the pricing was appropriate. The main reason to visit the museum is to meet the "Children of Lullaillaco", children that were "buried" during the time of the Incas and they are being cryogenically kept by the museum. It's a fascinating visit that will surely expand your knowledge of Inca culture and society.
