An absolutely stunning place. We got a taxi there (roughly 15 USD) and then hitchhiked back. The place is stunning. The colour of the water, the birds who literally come and eat from your hand and the amazing scenery. The walk can be a bit tricky in wet weather but itโ€™s totally worth it.

Easy hike with absolutely amazing scenery. First part quite an interesting forest, after that a first glimpse of an open area. After that a bit of boring muddy part through a forest but in the end again amazing open area with a final ascent to the beautiful lagoon.

Beautiful hike, a bit muddy, well marked trail and outstanding view. Public buses are leaving from bus station next to YPF gas station, is less than half an hour ride to get to the entry point of the trail. If you go early in the morning, I think it can easily combined with other activities in the day.

What a beautiful place - itโ€™s well worth a visit! The hike is not difficult and the scenery is wonderful along the way but there are some muddy spots in between so it would be a good idea to wear suitable footwear / hiking shoes. Transportation could also be a bit tricky so you should prearrange return pickup if you can.

Georgous place! Amazing experience. The trekking with snow is pretty easy, you should take the proper boots and equipment so you donโ€™t get wet

Beatufil lake! The trekking path had a lot of mud in the way...so I wouldn't reccomend going without appropriate boots.

The trial to lake Esmeralda is quite easy and even a bit unsatisfactory. After an hour and a bit you'll arrive there with nearly no height meters. Could be an ideal hike for bringing children and seniors. There's some walks across wooden stairs, some is just through the forest with the occasional bit of mud. Right before the lake there about 10-15 minutes of very moist ground and mud which might require some skill and/or boots to get across. Apart from that's its easy. There's a shuttle to and from Ushuaia for 5000 pesos both ways. Lake itself is quite the view! For the more hardened hikers, there's a second part to Laguna de Ojo Albino which is pretty tough. You walk along the eastern edge of the lake into the forest through some muddy parts up until you leave the tree line after forty minutes. Here it goes up steeply for an hour or two to the Albino lake. Especially the last 200 meters requires some skill to get over (balance, rock scaling experience, patience). The Albino lake and glacier are also very beautiful and different from the Esmeralda one. Walking poles might come in handy for this part of the hike. To Esmeralda its about 90 minutes to two hours, from Esmeralda to Albino is around two to three hours I would say. Way back is much faster though if you're knees are still bendable.

Takes around an hour and a half to hike this, mainly flat and easy route to follow. Can get muddy if it's raining so be aware and wear hiking boots. Beautiful lake at the end of the hike

Itโ€™s a very nice lake and the area around it is also beautiful. But because the trail is quite easy to hike, itโ€™s very overcrowded on top. On a sunny day many people are bringing their dogs, picnic ans boomboxes. Itโ€™s not a natural reserve, so different kind of people are going there.

Beautiful lagoon, worth the effort. Completed on 7 April 2023. The 80% of the trail is very muddy, which makes the trail difficult, as you could slip or lose your shoes. I recommend wearing appropriate walking shoes, as I saw people ruining expensive shoes that were inappropriate for the trail and 2 people who lost their shoes in the deep mud. If you do not have hiking poles, take a fallen branch to help you find balance in the mud.
