This is one of my favorite museums. It’s easy to get there and pretty small and they change their exhibitions in every few months which makes you want to go and visit more often. It’s always fascinating seeing the new designs. it can get crowded at peak times but they control the amount of people that can enter which is very nice.

I visited the Renwick Gallery with my family last fall and i was impressed with all the beautiful and extraordinary exhibits. The David’s best temple caught my gaze with its glow and I also love the disrupting Craft. A great museum rich in history and packed with lots of exceptional crafts. It’s a must see if you are visiting DC. I highly recommend to all tourists, locals, craft and art lovers.

Love the Renwick! it’s definitely one of the museums you can’t miss if visiting DC. They have rotating exhibits like the Burning Man exhibit which was stunning. I’m impressed every time. They also encourage photos which I enjoy :)

I love this gallery. There are fascinating, creative pieces that cause you to stop and marvel. I am always impressed by new exhibits. While some modern art galleries you go to and think, "I don't get it, anyone could make that", the skill on display here is nothing short of amazing. I look at some of the ceramics, textiles, and woodworking pieces and am floored at the skill and craftsmanship. It's a small museum, but could spend 30mins to an hour here depending on how involved you get on reading the info or examining the art.

Interior is gorgeous and is a cool museum of craft art! No tickets needed and cost was zero to get in and walk around. No mask required, they will check your purses/bags and do not wheel in luggage. I did observe some folks trying to come in with luggage and were told to leave. I will definitely visit again as the art changes.

A surprisingly well-curated museum that has rotating exhibits that are so interesting and interactive, especially the section documenting indigenous artists. All the art pieces are well-explained and well-documented. Since it is a Smithsonian Museum, it is free to enter. It is a smaller museum with two levels. It is air-conditioned, has bathrooms, and there is a bag check at the door. Recommend stopping on the second level to lie on one's back and marvel at the sculpture overhead.

I can't believe I lived in the area for years and haven't been here before. This is an incredible museum with so many interesting pieces, from furniture, to pottery, to modern art and so much more. And, it's free?! There are so many pieces that I would initially find visually interesting. Then, I'd read the context and story behind the artist's intention, and the piece got a million times more interesting. I went on a Saturday afternoon and it was busy but not too crowded or noisy. I noticed a lot of younger folks there and everyone there was super stylish and seemed super hip. So, it seemed like a great place for a date! A lot of talking points and interesting pieces.

The Renwick Gallery is amazing! The art work, sculptures, and exhibits are extremely stunning! I came across this Smithsonian museum by chance and so grateful that I did. I highly recommend visiting the gallery if you’re in the area. Enjoy!

Loved loved loved it! Wonderful exhibit on Burning Man when we visited, along with other great exhibits that took a bit less space. The gallery is such an intimate yet roomy space that any exhibit could be staged well there. As part of the Smithsonian it's also free, which is nice, too.

The is a small gallery really close to the White House. It like a block away and a supper easy walk. It’s also a good place to use a restroom after a White House visit. The art was modern but unique. It is worth a quick look to admire some of the intricate art pieces of the modern generation.

It is a very cool place to visit in Washington DC. They have a lot of interesting exhibits on display. Each one is very inspiring and expressive. You will love to spend an hour or so by yourself and it is free to visit. Parking is also easy. They have some street parking where you can pay using park mobile or there is a LAZ parking lot which is 3 mins walk away from this museum.

This is an interesting little gallery that's totally worth a stop off and won't take very long. It's mostly cool little craft objects and a couple of bigger more modern light focused installations. There's this big room hung with like a mesh screen above the floor that gets a bunch of color changing lights projected onto it. Above the stairs is this very cool sort of futuristic 3d chandelier. The building is pretty nice too with tall ceilings and it's mostly all s light blue color with gold trim.

An incredibly well curated museum with rotating exhibits. Security will THOROUGHLY check your bag so try to have all the pockets/bags ready to present. The exhibit right now focuses on indigenous people and is well worth a visit. Also they have one of the best gift shops!

This museum is perfect for those with a bit of extra time to spend in their day and nothing to fill it with. It's not overwhelmingly large making it easy to see all of the various pieces and exhibits. Also the floor format is circular allowing for easy circulation and no dead ends. There are staff around each corner for questions and beat of all, it's free!

This was one of the first places I visited when I moved to DC and I had so much fun! As a museum focused on crafts, I found my time there challenging and enlightening. Your first impression of a piece felt shocking or confusing but then you would read the plaque and get insight that entirely changes your perspective of the piece. I spent a long time there (around 1-1.5 hrs). Definitely worth the visit and photo ops if that is your thing.

The gallery was simply beautiful. There were so many creative and diverse works of art. The main room with the flowing net drapes and lights were the best part! Spent several hours here.

I’ve been here twice. The first time we got in kinda late but they were still very gracious with us. It was more of a photo op. But the second time I went alone and actually read through everything and connected with certain pieces. It’s such a meaningful and beautiful gallery. They even have a wall where you can interact and write down what you’re proud of, or your biggest regret. It’s truly beautiful my favorite part is the chandelier art piece above the staircase it is just mesmerizing to me. The employees of the gallery are nice and overall it was such a great experience. I’m so glad I was able to go again and experience the gallery fully. It is small but there’s a lot to see. There’s even a space upstairs where you can lay on the carpet and observe the ceiling installation.

Neat, historic museum, but very small. There were some really cool pieces here, but I was able to see the whole thing (and the second floor twice) in under thirty minutes. Free, and worth seeing, but don't set a lot of time aside for it. Also, they do search your bag, so plan accordingly.

The contemporary art museum captivated with its innovative blend of traditional and digital art. From thought-provoking installations to a rich representation of artists, the museum offered an immersive experience, making it a dynamic hub for contemporary art exploration. It is a small gallery very close to the White House, visiting whole museum won’t take more than an hour.

The collections are absolutely stunning and there are tons of times during the day when the museum is fairly empty and allows for total immersion in the exhibits. Between the set up and the rotating collections of works displayed this has easily climbed to one of my favorite art museums in DC. I now take every friend/family member that visits me here.

Excellent, small(ish) museum. Amazing contemporary art on display in September of 2023. Small but adequate museum shop. If you are looking for an intimate museum stop near the White House for an hour's visit, this is the place. There is a Pete's coffee shop across the street if you need a pick-me‐up.

Fun smaller exhibit! Did not take too long to get through and had some great things on display. There is no cost to get in. They will search your bags at the front. Pictures were allowed when I went.

We love this cozy little gallery! Seems like the second floor exhibits are permanent installations while those on the first floor change periodically. There's always something amazing and thought provoking to see. Highly recommended.

My favorite museum in DC (and visited all of them when I lived there 2016/17). I love it because it is perfectly curated, not crowded, and both space and art feel authentic. Innovative art and crafts focusing on American artists. It is small. If you are a reader like me, budget 1.5 to 2 hours. If not, you can probably see everything in 30 min. Make sure to budget some time to lay on the carpet and enjoy the installation on the upper floor; it is transcendent. While much of the museum peices displayed changed in the last 5 years, a few, including the top floor installation, have not.

The 2 floors of this Smithsonian Museum feature contemporary crafts and visually stunning installations. It’s small enough to allow the visitor to see everything without being over saturated. The museum notes explaining the art pieces are concise and well written.

Really cool museum to hit when in DC, awesome rotating exhibits. We saw the Burning Man, Dustin Farnsworth, and Crime Scene Diorama exhibits on a few visits. It’s an easy walk from anywhere in DC, close to the White House, and worth a stop if you want to see something different.

I visited the burning man experience. My niece and I wanted to be the simulator experience. The nasty worker said was very rude and nasty. Other than that the exhibit was amazing. I cannot take people’s action in account for how wonderful the museum is. Definitely a must see!!! It wasn’t too crowded on the Monday we went which was Labor Day. It was difficult to get some good picture of the mushrooms because of the crowds but still enjoyable. The exhibit is very tranquil and nice.

It's a small, free gallery, with interesting exhibits. The building is beautiful and there's lots of excellent interpretations. However, it's not immensely compelling, unless you're REALLY into art. Mixed media pieces, quilts, small sculptures, and beading. While interpretation is really excellent, if your time is limited, there are other Smithsonians I'd recommend instead (for art, the National Portrait Gallery is unreal)!

This is one of my favorite galleries in DC. It is free. So the lines can be long on the weekends. I suggest going earlier in the morning if you can. The exhibits are very educational and emotion provoking. It's a great place to relax and engage in conversation about the exhibits.

The best museum we saw all week! It’s a much smaller, quieter little spot to spend an hour or so. So many works of art from across the country with great descriptions and stories. We were blown away with the variety and the storytelling. Definitely a good addition to your trip itinerary.

Came on a Friday morning and was very calm experience. Felt like I had the opportunity to take my time and explore all the pieces. Gorgeous pieces that are culturally relevant! I would probably plan to see other places like we did just because it isn’t too vast of a museum.

  • 5/5 Allison L. 5 years ago on Google
One of my favorite places to visit in DC because of it's in-depth content and "larger than life" installations. The gallery is small enough where you can digest everything thoroughly without getting overwhelmed. Detailed descriptions accompany the art pieces. Each room encompasses a different installation. The Burning Man exhibit has been eye-opening, and includes a comprehensive history and future expectations of this whole movement.

  • 4/5 H J. 5 years ago on Google
The burning man exhibition was on when we attended and it was a really good one. The space within the museum was used really well and the exhibits combined interactive, traditional and contemporary style pieces that appealed to the whole family. Definitely worth a visit once you are done with the White House! Recommended

The gallery was organized in a form that made sense. The art on the first floor had a meaningful and powerful message behind each piece. The history of each artist was breathtaking! The second floor had a more modern artsy vibe. Starting with the light piece on the ceiling coming up the stairs.

This is a small gallery, but they use the space well. When last week it was the exhibition of Sharing Honors and Burdens. That is something so special to see. My only thing is so small that they don’t have a place to drink coffee or a snack. If you really want it across the street is a Peet’s Coffee.

  • 5/5 Tiziano Patrick D. 6 months ago on Google
Very cool gallery! The temporary exhibition is now dedicated to Native American artists and it’s really cool, the free admission is also a good plus!

  • 5/5 Albert W. 5 years ago on Google
A pretty small gallery (though the current exhibitions extend onto adjacent streets), but full of great pieces. They now have displays from the Burning Man Festival, showcasing some of the most famous pieces of art, buildings, and pieces from the desert-based event. There is also information about the history of Black Rock City: how it came to be, how it evolved, and the different traditions, principles, and annual themes which govern the annual event. It’s not all staring at things either: many of the exhibits are interactive, including the Temple, a virtual reality exhibit, and more. Additional art pieces can be found in adjacent streets, which are detailed on maps. Would definitely recommend checking it out.

Complete and wonderful surprise! Located right at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, we had no idea it was next doir to the Whitehouse and had no time in our achedule to take afvantage of that, so make sure you do. This musrum was just the right size to walk around and get a quick feel for what America is all about boasting something to offer from many cultures. There was even a sign to encourage taking photos! (Get out!) The curator of this gem deserves a hug! More reviews art and interesting things on my Instagram. Christineclaystudio_and stuff

Awesome exhibits and I really enjoyed reading the story behind each piece. It's a small gallery about the size of a two story house. Took me about an hour to see everything and soak it all in. Highly recommend visiting if you have an hour to kill.

Small (30-45min) but interesting art gallery with a good variety of exhibition pieces. The wooden collection and the hanging installation were my favourites. Perfect if you have an hour to fill and are in the area.

Such a beautiful place to visit in DC and is a true hidden gem. There are art pieces that rotate every 6 months or so and some permanent pieces.

We went to see the Burning Man exhibit. Beautiful gallery, with lots of different rooms. We easily spent 3 hours in here, there was so much to take in, on all sensory levels. Lots of interactive art, including a VR experience, and a carved wooden chapel with little pieces of wood that you can write to loved ones who have passed, and add to the exhibit. Very well produced, all together.

  • 5/5 Lauren B. 5 years ago on Google
I visited the Burning Man exhibit and was blown away by the quality and scale of the work. The art became more powerful when given context and story with the effective displays. It was well placed in the space. It's a smaller museum, but well worth the visit. The gift shop was well curated.

This is a review of Renwick as a wedding venue - not as a gallery. I'll have to go back. The Renwick is an elegant and upscale venue to host a wedding and reception. The one we attended was elaborate and exquisite. The groom came on a horse along with a loud procession along the 1700 block of Pennsylvania Avenue. Wow - didn't know that was even possible. A few pictures to get the idea across.

Lovely craft gallery. The museum is pretty small (I made it through in <45 mins), but the collection itself is excellent -- they have a solid range of pieces from leading contemporary craft and textile artists. Curation felt somewhat haphazard, but there's only so much you can expect from a small museum. When I went the main hall was closed for an event, which was unfortunate, so come in the afternoon or call ahead to avoid that.

I always love popping in here for a quick visit whenever they get a new gallery. This one was so gorgeous with a lot of different meaningful exhibits of a wide variety of mediums. Entrance is free and they also have bathrooms and a gift shop. Came here on a Sunday and it was not too crowded
