Great coffee but LONG wait. I came here for the first time today and my coffee was delicious. I did have to wait 7-10 minutes for them to make it though, so not a good place to go if you’re in a rush. Seems like a great spot to hang out though to do work or meet a friend. The indoor decor is very cool. They make each cup from scratch - so they grind up the beans to order and I think they do pour over style, which explains the wait. I got a dark roast, small hot coffee, with oat milk and I loved the flavor. It wasn’t sour or acrid, it was a perfect nutty rich taste. If you have ten mins to spare, the great taste was worth the wait!

Confusing sequence of ordering coffee and walking to another tiny low counter to pay where the usability of the cash pad has much more to be desired. Don’t expect porcelain or stoneware mugs even if you are having the coffee in the cafe. What a wasteful and environmentally unfriendly experience!!!! The coffee is ordinary, not comparable to what organic fair trade light roasts that I order online freshly ground.

First-Time Here! I must say I was totally impressed. Great Customer Service!! The Mint Mojito coffee was WOWWW. The Bacon Maple Sandwich was very good too. I will definitely be back.

I love Philz and the staff at this location are soooo friendly and nice! It has pleasant outdoor seating and a few tables inside as well. If you’re coming here for a meeting, it’s good to arrive early because tables are sometimes full, at least inside. If you haven’t been to a Philz before, it is different than most coffee shops. They don’t do lattes or frappes or anything like that. Instead, you choose your coffee blend and then tell them how much cream and/or sugar you want, and they make the whole drink for you. I think the coffee is really high quality and I love the way they are different from other shops!

They are slacking compared to every other Philz I have been to including those in California . They poured room temperature coffee from a container of stored coffee ( I could get the same thing at Starbucks) . So for an iced mint mojito which is normally hot at the bottom and cold at the top it was all cold from the ice on top and looks as if it was just shook up , this is the 2nd time I have got the same product from this location. Pretty disappointed if the quality is going down to chase profits.

Quirky coffee shops with lots of interesting flavours. One thing I didn't like was the amount of spice in my drink. They overdid it a little bit... The last sit was just cinnamon, nearly spat on a stranger!

This is the first Philz location I haven’t liked. My regular mint mojito didn’t taste as good. Tried it twice and both times something was not right.

I'm a big fan of the mint mojito iced coffee, though everything I've had is well made and delicious.

I am a big fan of Philz and their mint mojito but this location barista did not how to make mint mojito. The drink was watery, not creamy and the cream was clumped, but the barista justified it as due to ice. BS!

I had the Philthered Soul coffee. Hands down the best coffee I’ve ever tasted. Not acidic. Smooth and flavorful. It’s a bit pricey ($3.6 for a small but bigger than a Starbucks small) but worth it for the flavor. Plenty of seating inside and outside too.

Great coffee and this location is the most convenient for me! Through social media I discovered a new "secret menu" or "off menu" drink called oatmeal cookie. It's half Julie's ultimate, half hazelnut and then cinnamon in the filter. So delicious! It's sweet which I love and has the best flavor. I usually get an iced medium, sweet and creamy. You can even order this drink through their mobile ordering on the app by selecting Julie's ultimate and then in the "special instructions" section add "half hazelnut with cinnamon in the filter to make an oatmeal cookie drink." Comes out the same as if I ordered in store. Employees are really friendly and don't rush to make drinks that end up tasting bad. Everything is great and I love stopping here in the morning!

This location is great. I was living in the neighborhood during the early pandemic days - would come and get distanced takeout and there was this very nice barista, so sweet, positive and really sets the tone for a nice, chill morning!! I moved away for a couple years and just recently moved back and revisited this location - she’s still there, still just as awesome. I recommend this Philz!

Coffee is pretty good, I'd come back for that. Unfortunately, our food was bad. It was clearly microwaved, the sausage muffin more than once, and the burrito was cold in spots. It's too bad, especially for almost $7 a sandwich.

Perfectly consistent with all the other Philz locations in the DMV and in the West Coast! If you've never been to Philz, it's good to know that they specialize in pour-over coffee. But it's unlike other pour-overs you may have tried. Each drink is individually made to order, with lots of options for coffee blends, dairy (or dairy free) and sweeteners. A barista runs you through an intro of how the coffee process works, helps you choose a blend from their 15+ options, how much creamer and sweetness you'd like, and whether you'd like hot or iced. The iced options can be chosen from any blend. They're specifically brewed in such a way that doesn't taste watered down. Once brewed, the barista always asks for you to check your drink and see if it fits your preferences. You can always adjust your drink no matter what so you will always leave satisfied. There are no espresso drinks, however I highly recommend trying these drinks at least once since they're unusually good! The baristas will usually do their best to make something that will taste similar to an espresso with the same amount of caffeine (Philz blends actually contain a pretty high amount of caffeine, especially the light blends). If you're feeling something different, they also have some tea options and hot chocolate. For food, they usually have some toast options, Philz bagels (really good), sandwiches, pastries, parfaits, baklava, and a few more I'm missing. This location also has lots and lots of plugs and room to sit, from cozy couches to stools next to the window. It's also a very visually appealing location.

My friend brought me to this shop this past weekend and I'm happy she did. I ordered the yerba mate, which is something I've always wanted to try. I loved how helpful the staff was when I was ordering. The barista gave recommendations and was very willing to modify the drink until I was satisfied. The space is also nicely set up and just a nice area to sit and chat with friends. I would definitely come back first chance I get.

Philz specializes in drip coffee but they are happy to make recommendations for those who love a latte which is what I requested today. The staff is friendly and approachable. The atmosphere oozes “safe space” for all and could easily accommodate office meetings or social gatherings. There’s plenty of room for outdoor and indoor seating. It’s nestled inside Arlington’s Ballston neighborhood. There’s construction in neighboring buildings right now so it’s not quite the gentle buzz of a moving suburb but quite literally a buzzsaw, hammering and drilling construction site. Definitely recommend this great little place for a quick run in for a coffee or to stay a while and grab one of their great croissants.

First time trying Philz Coffee and I have to say it was pretty good. The price is decent. Not to expensive. The service received was good. The time it took was a little long but not bad. Got to at least try it once for yourself and decide if it is worth it. I think it is. 🤓

  • 5/5 Jerry N. 3 years ago on Google
I have been addicted to this place basically since they opened. The different flavors you can get are unique but subtle so the great coffee always shines through. App makes it super easy to customize your drinks (I always sub in oatmilk to dial down the creaminess a bit). Highly recommended!

Quickly became my new favorite coffee place. I meet a friend here weekly in the mornings at sit outside. If you’re into exploring flavors, Philz makes it easy and inviting. We now use their Tesora coffee beans at our office since they sell it in bulk! This location has a good amount of table space both inside and outside. Staff are friendly and clearly knowledgeable as well. They have a few unique gluten free pastry items as well.

It's not just another coffee shop, it's a West Coast pour-over destination. Great friendly staff, too.

Stopped for mid afternoon coffee and croissant. Scattering of laptops and chatters but a seat became available during the short time it took to warm up the croissant and prepare my coffee. Free WiFi though I didn't ask for the password. Lots more available seating, especially for those willing to share the bigger tables. Good location between Ballston Quarter and Metro even from the restored pedestrian bridge.
