Fantabulous! The dog park of all dog parks! It's somewhere between a quarter mile and a half mile of a center paved walkway with play area along both sides of the walkway. There are tons and tons of dogs there almost all the time! There was one time when it was super icy rain and I thought I would certainly be the only one out, but there were at least 10 to 20 other people who visited and left while I was there. Lots of fun at all times and all-weather! During the warmer months, the dogs can go play in the river that goes alongside the closed in dog park. There is a little gate on either end of the dog park that allows you to go directly down towards the water. You have to be able to walk or climb down a short Rocky hill , but it's not difficult.

This is one of the best dog parks anywhere in northern Virginia. It has a very long fenced-in area with plenty of shade for the dogs to play. The highlight of the park is the river that runs through it which the dogs get to play in. I highly recommend bringing your puppers here.

My dogs love it here! The small dog area is too small for them to really run and play but they are big enough to go into the big dog area and feel comfortable. The only down side is that it gets pretty muddy when it rains. Also the water station area in the middle of the park is always muddy because of water spills. But for area and socialization this place is great!

Best dog park in the DC-VA area. Has a huge off-leash area with tons of trees and a stream for dogs to play in. Be warmed that playing in the stream may not be recommended for some dogs, as bacteria level can be high. Highly recommend, must visit if you have a dog!

Nice for walks, has some installation that can be used for exercise…good thing that they provide clear instructions to each of them. Lovely watching the dogs enjoy nature on the other side of water.

Shirlington Park is a true gem of a park, offering a wide range of activities for people of all ages and interests. From the beautifully manicured gardens to the expansive green spaces and playgrounds, Shirlington Park has something for everyone. One of the standout features of this park is its well-maintained trails. Whether you're a runner, a cyclist, or just looking for a scenic stroll, the trails at Shirlington Park offer a picturesque setting for outdoor exercise. The park also offers ample opportunities for picnicking, with plenty of shaded areas and picnic tables. Families will appreciate the playgrounds, which offer a safe and fun environment for kids to play and explore. And for pet owners, Shirlington Park's dog park is a must-visit destination. The dog park is spacious and well-kept, with separate areas for small and large dogs.

This park is not near my home, but it's the best dog park in the area, so I make the drive to it. Lots of room for dogs to run, a water fountain and access to a natural creek for playing in the water. Free dog bags and benches for owners to sit while watching their pets. Like all dog parks, there's the usual problem of owners not picking up after their pets, so don't wear sandals here. And, you'll also have to watch out for people more worried about taking Instagram photos than watching their aggressive dogs, but it's still the best dog park around.

Fantastic play area which we parked a bit far from not aware that the play area was on the other side of the park. Shirlington park is beautiful and quiet. Really nice that you see a small stream and there are recreational fields for softball and so forth. Lots of places to sit at the actual playground.

Great dog park to socialize your dog. Spacious and has some shops/beer pub (dog friendly) right next to it.

I love this park. There's plenty of space and doors that face the river so dogs can play in the water.

It is being kept clean and groomed. However, a black snake loves to roam between the river and the maple tree that happens to be standing in the middle of the park.

Best dog park of the city! Super long so you can actually walk with your pup, and very popular so you're likely to find a play buddy. :) Years after posting the first above review: still great! Lol

Definitely a great park for the dogs. Has a long run out for the dogs to stretch their legs. Plenty of trash cans. I believe all of the bags though are on a donation basis so bring your own and don't forget to pick up after your doggo! There are also two areas for the dogs to swim. One has steps that go down and the water is a bit more shallow. The other is a bit rough to get down to due to no steps but the water gets deeper for the taller dogs to swim. Would highly recommend to anyone!
