Most people will recognize this iconic statue from pictures they may have seen online or somewhere in the media. However, this is mainly a tribute to all marines that have served and given their lives to the US since 1775. The actual stance is from the victory of Iwo Jima, where the marines were able to raise a flag on Mount Suribachi. I was surprised at how enormous the statue was when I was looking from the bottom. Nevertheless, it’s a must see for everyone coming to visit DC. It’s farther from the more famous memorials. If you’re driving, they do have some parking spots in front.

This is an amazing memorial dedicated to our Marine heroes. "In honor and in memory of the men of the United States Marine Corps who have given their lives to their country since November 10, 1775." The United States Marine Corps War Memorial represents this nation's gratitude to Marines and those who have fought beside them. While the statue depicts one of the most famous incidents of World War II, the memorial is dedicated to all Marines who have given their lives in defense of the United States since 1775.

For as long as I can remember, I've always wanted to come here. The Marine Corps was and is a certain determinant in my life. I served as a paratrooper myself and I know something about the hardships of service. This place is one of many places where the dedication to the cause, the courage of these people and the fact that many of them paid the highest price were appreciated. I honor you.

What a tribute to the all American hero. Take a walk from Arlington National Cemetery and the grave markers set the tone for this amazing statue. The heroic touch by these young soldiers so many years ago is a lasting reminder of what the flag stands for. I also love that this memorial can be seen for miles around. It’s a little off the beaten path and after so many years of visiting DC this is my first time, and definitely a favorite.

Finally got the chance to see what i have only seen in books and movies. Words cant express how awe-inspiring this monument is. Shows the American strength and unity. We as citizens need to show our armed forces more respect than we do. Because if it wasn't for them we would not be a free nation.

Wow! What an incredible memorial. This was a breathtaking experience in the cool, crisp, morning air of our nation's capital. With hardly anyone there, I was able to reflect on the U.S. Marine Corps history and tradition this monument represents. Semper Fi and God Bless my fellow Marines, the service members of our military, and the United States of America.

As a history enthusiast, especially World War II, my visit to the Iwo Jima Memorial left me profoundly moved and inspired. Situated on a sprawling 27-acre park overlooking the Potomac River, this iconic monument is a must-see for anyone visiting the nation's capital. Upon arrival, I was struck by the sheer scale and artistry of the memorial. The larger-than-life bronze statue of the iconic flag-raising moment during the Battle of Iwo Jima is a breathtaking sight that truly captures the valor and sacrifice of the U.S. Marine Corps. The attention to detail in the sculpture, from the expressions on the faces of the Marines to the folds of the flag, is simply remarkable. The serene surroundings and meticulously maintained grounds make for a peaceful and contemplative atmosphere. The memorial offers plenty of space for visitors to reflect and pay their respects, whether it's sitting on one of the benches or simply standing in awe of the tribute before them. One of the highlights of my visit was the informative interpretive panels that provide historical context about the Battle of Iwo Jima and the significance of the memorial. Learning about the sacrifices made by the Marines and the impact of the battle on World War II history deepened my appreciation for the monument and its importance. Accessibility is well-considered, with pathways and ramps making it easy for everyone to explore the memorial. Additionally, the on-site parking and nearby public transportation options make it convenient to reach. Whether you're a history buff, a military veteran, or simply seeking a meaningful and thought-provoking experience, the Iwo Jima Memorial delivers on every level. It's a place that pays tribute to the bravery and dedication of those who served and reminds us of the enduring spirit of our nation. My visit to the Iwo Jima Memorial was an unforgettable journey into history and a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by the men and women who defend our freedoms. I wholeheartedly recommend adding this iconic monument to your itinerary when exploring the nation's capital.

We went on a week day and parking was easy. I've lived in Northern VA my whole life and this was my 1st visit. Of course I had seen pictures, but wow. Seeing this in person was amazing! There's a nice walkway around the area. And you get an amazing view of the DC monuments as well!

Inspiring and motivational monument to the Marines! Bigger than I thought it would be. 10-15 minute walk from the Arlington Cemetery visitor center since the shuttle wasn’t going to all the stops when I was there. Worth a little side trip!

One of my favorite memorials to visit. There was plenty of open (free) parking when we visited, and it’s just a quick drive over to Arlington cemetery from there. Well worth the stop!

Striking and magnificent. Make sure you read a good story of their heroism and the meaning behind it beforehand. The plagues are informative but not enough for a complete experience. God bless our Marines.

Generally already a beautiful memorial with a great spirit. But visiting at an evening on a Tuesday (during summer) makes it an unforgettable event. The Sunset Parade, starting at 6.30pm, is a stunning goosebump moment.

A very stirring memorial, off the beaten path in Arlington, VA. A monument to US Marines who served in wars throughout the United States history. A must see for patriotic Americans!

It really gives a somber tone to what you may have learned back in school. Well worth the trip and with all the audio information stops around it there is a lot to learn. Definitely make this a stop on your trip. Just a hop away from Arlington Cemetery as well.

An impressive park. With impressive grounds. An impressive statue. An impressive bell tower that chimes multiple times per hour. An impressive view of the Nation's Capital. And it is directly adjacent to the many--too many--impressive men and women that have died in service to our country. Bathrooms and water fountains available. Great spots for a picnic.

A must see! Located next to Arlington National Cemetery. Easy parking. Low traffic area. Great photo opportunity. Grass and a few trees to run around in.

To learn so much about this moment in history and be able to see the monument in honor of the Marines that rose the flag on that day in person it is just even more impactful. When you return back into Arlington, not far from the entrance, one of the Marines that raised the flag is buried not far by.

You cannot dislike this place. Being a Marine, I am biased though. Coming here has been on my list of places to see for a while and it did not disappoint. I am not sentimental, but I could not stop smiling or feeling a sense of accomplishment and proudness for having served. Go for yourself, see it and review it for yourself. It was busy out there though. I suggest visiting on a less crowded day.

Impressive, iconic, and inspiring. An awesome representation and tribute. The memorial is relatively easy to access with sufficient parking.

Great memorial, great location. A nice quiet area around it with close parking and a nice bathrooms area with a visitor center. Bathrooms are open even if it is after hours for the visitor center. A good place to reflect on sacrifices made for our nation. Don't bring your kids here to play, there is no playground. Please bring them to learn and please show respect for the sacrifices of thousands of Marines. Your dog can come, but should be well behaved on a leash.

Kind of a pain to get to the parking area but it's worth it. It's a towering monument to the Marine Corps. And it has a great of the Washington monument and the Capitol building.

As a Marine myself this was always on my list at some point in my life. We visited Washington on a family trip this past week. I finally made it happen. The spirits I felt for all my past fellow brothers and sisters who gave the ultimate sacrifice was strong. All the sweat it took to walk to this Memorial was worth it. Semper Fidelis!!

The US Marine Corps War Memorial, also known as the Iwo Jima Memorial, is an iconic and awe-inspiring tribute to the valor and sacrifice of the United States Marine Corps. As a visitor to this hallowed monument, I was deeply moved by the significance it holds and the emotion it evokes. Located just outside Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia, the memorial stands tall and proud, paying homage to the Marines who fought in one of the most grueling battles of World War II. The statue, depicting the historic raising of the American flag on Mount Suribachi during the battle of Iwo Jima, captures the essence of bravery, camaraderie, and determination. The attention to detail in the sculpture is remarkable, as every crease of the Marines' uniforms and every facial expression reflect the intensity of the moment. The memorial's sheer size is impressive, leaving visitors in awe of the heroic feat it represents. It served as a constant reminder of the sacrifices made by those who served and continue to serve in the Marine Corps. Whether you have a personal connection to the military or simply appreciate the profound impact of their sacrifices, a visit to the US Marine Corps War Memorial is an absolute must. It is a place that leaves an inedible impression on your heart and soul, reminding us all of the price paid for our freedom.

This was an interesting place to visit. The statue and carillon were both impressive. The descriptive signs were very informative, as well.

Quite an impressive statute. I was surprised on how large it was. Getting to it was a little confusing at first. I wasn't sure exactly what turn to take, but once we circled, I saw my mistake. There is quite a bit of free parking all around. Took the kids on Memorial Day to view it. There were a lot of historical markers that you could read about our Armed Forces or even push a button, and there was a recording you could listen to. There was a large grassy field where you could admire the satute. The story is amazing to learn about. It's not a all day thing but you could spend a few quality hours here and it's well worth it.
