Not a fan of instruments of war but I am fascinated by machinery design. The Fort is a well kept, instructive location on how America prepared to defend itself. The landscape alone is worth the trip! The info boards set about the place help explain why the Fort exists and the cement batteries provide some hands on structures to climb upon and use your imagination as to day to day life as a soldier. Turns out for all the plans, there never was any enemy fire. The lighthouse is postcard worthy and will be open everyday starting May 1st. My family was fortunate to meet the on base docent Dale and the official "Bark Ranger" dog, KC who were out for a stroll. I would strongly suggest that folks stop by when they have time to explore and maybe bring a kite and picnic to make it a full day of fun!

Very cool historic place to check out. Definitely worth a visit if you are on the island. There are also a variety of campsites (paid and with reservations) as well as large barracks and officers housing that you can rent. The views around the grounds are pretty amazing. Worth going prior to sunset, you get almost a 360 degree view from the spotting buildings. One thing I find kind of odd though is that the buildings with the AA guns are only partially painted. Like 1 or 2 of them are freshly painted and look how they did back in the time they were used, and then they just gave up on finishing the rest. Overall a very interesting place and cool spot to have a picnic. Beach access as well.

This was such a cool area! There’s so much to look at and so many fun places to explore! I highly recommend bringing a flashlight or using the flashlight on your phone so you can see better when going through the dark hallways inside :) the gift shop is has lots of fun trinkets too!

Loved this park! Must see on Whidbey Island. It wasn’t crowded and it was so fun exploring all the places and rooms inside the buildings. It’s dark in some spots and a flashlight would have been handy. Phone flashlight didn’t quite cut it. There are lots of little bird nests over the lamps inside the buildings. And you can climb the lighthouse tower.

we visited here twice on our stay. first time we walked from the Fort Casey In and then we drove over. this fort is so well kept and maintained. the staff here are extremely frothy and knowledgeable. my 4 year old loved all the ladders and hidden rooms. we even baby carried two infants because it would be difficult to push a stroller. the views are amazing and there are lots of deer running around. this is a great place to bring a picnic lunch with the family

Historic place with a view! The beach was quiet and relaxing. The fort has plotting rooms and cannon guns which were majestic to watch. Admiralty head light house was beautiful, still standing strong since 1903. We even spotted a deer around the light house. The light house opened at 12:00pm, about 5-6 people were allowed to climb to the top at a time Not crowded at all even on a Saturday noon. People were flying kites around, having a relaxed picnic.

Love the history. They have added some lighting and signage since I was there last, cleaned and painted. I wish they still did the tours like when I was a kid.

absolutely beautiful location and super cool to explore. check out this cliff side park, overlooking the puget sound and neighboring islands, walk one of the several trails leading down to the water, watch multiple ferries passing by constantly, catch the seals playing in the kelp beds, enjoy going inside the beautiful light house, watch as deer graze freely across the lawns and capture some amazing sunsets as the sun drops below the Olympic mountains and disappears each night

A lot of great history here. A walk back in time. It has a lot of beautiful views looking out over the water as well. There are picnic tables to enjoy lunch/dinner or just a quick snack. There are State Park employees to answer questions as well. A great experience for all ages.

There is so much history here, and in an unbelievably beautiful setting. There are plenty of things to explore and great beach walking. And there are some spectacular view campsites right where you can watch the Coupeville - Port Townsend ferry going in and out.

My family and I absolutely love Fort Casey State Park. We spend the night in Oak Harbor and enjoy walking around the park. The lighthouse, the education, beautiful views, awesome rocky beach, can't ask for more. We love it.

The camp sites there was amazing! It’s right on the water, and the park rangers were super helpful! The shop there was surprisingly small, but worked just fine. The utilities available were very convenient. The bathrooms were some of the cleanest I’ve ever seen camp bathrooms, and there were showers available for a few quarters for a few minutes. In the morning the ferry would board just down the beach, and was fun to wave to the people on board. Overall one of the best camp grounds I’ve been to in a long time! The Fort was really interesting to explore as well. The volunteer staff were very friendly and excited to answer all of our questions. I would definitely recommend coming for a weekend if you’re considering camping on Whidbey Island, or even a day trip. Very fun!

Really enjoyed climbing up on the battlements. Reminded me a bit of being in Europe! Lots of fresh air and wind. Picnic tables available. Cute little lighthouse. If you haven’t seen it yet, do go when next you’re on Whidbey.

Fort Casey State Park is very beautiful and an amazing place to spend an early morning. I went there on a Saturday around 7:30 in the morning, so there weren't many people there, and it was so peaceful. It was nice to walk around, looking at the fort and taking in beautiful views of the ocean. The state park starts getting busy around 10:30 AM, but it was nice to be there early, so if you like to be alone, go early. The bathrooms are some of the cleanest I've ever seen at a state park, so that was a nice touch. Overall, an amazing place to be.

Very cool area to see and explore a bit of history. The guns are incredible, absolutely huge. Definitely worth a visit but it gets quite windy by the water so bring a jacket.

Fort Casey is located on Whidbey island and is one of the 7 state parks on the island. Its a fun place with to run around on the walls and also to take a look/feel the heavy mounted cannon. There is a lot of history for this fort and one can also enjoy beautiful sunsets on the coast. There are few small hikes around the fort and you can also climb down to the beach. Admiralty light house is about ~10 mins walk from the fort and be sure to visit that too. Note: You do require Discovery pass

Beautiful park! Came on Veterans Day (cloudy, drizzling, blowy), so free parking and a small re'enactment group. Not a ton of people, which was nice for us. It looks like there are holiday lights, but I didn't see the days/times. Clean bathrooms! Easy water stations. Apparently, the area is super haunted, but lots of people today, so nothing spotted. The lighthouse area is beautiful. We saw deer snacking right in the main park area. Didn't make it down to the beach areas, but looks amazing. Looking forward to coming back for a campfire and beach chill.

The old gun batteries were interesting to see and it was nice that there's not too much graffiti. The number of signs describing what was there was very insufficient. It was fun to wander through the old passageways but some of them were inexplicably locked and most of them lacked any lighting and 95% of them had no signage to describe what they might have been used for. If you have a great imagination or some foreknowledge of what you're looking at then you might have a better time here than someone who doesn't know anything about the fort. The gift shop lobby was maybe 100 square feet; there wasn't much there. Employees of the gift shop were unable to answer some specific questions about the fort. The bathrooms are a good walk from the gun batteries but they're clean.

Wonderful place to spend an afternoon. Beautiful sweeping views of the Olympic peninsula, calm waters, and sailing ships. Great place to explore the history of the place, climb up the lighthouse, and even see what it is like to live in the Lighthouse. There is a souvenir shop to collect a stamp or even merch. Family friendly as well as pet friendly area. Discover pass is needed as the Lighthouse is part of Fort Casey State Park. There are lots of hiking options along the water.

8/12/23 Still a definite place to take visiting friends and family. Always enjoy coming here. The park staff and volunteers do a great job keeping the grounds, restrooms, and lighthouse. Makes this a must when friends and family come to visit.

I love going to visit here. Lots of history to explore. It’s got a beautiful hillside for picnics. Bathrooms are near parking which is a small walk from the fort. I plan to bring a kite next time.

Really nice place. So many different places to explore. Beautiful views. Make sure if you don't have a discovery pass to stop by the office right before the parking lot to the fort to purchase one (only 10$ for a day).

Beautiful historic park with breath taking views. Love visiting here! Bathrooms are clean, a lot of animals in their nature, can hangout on the beach all day.

Excellent park to get a great wide open view of the sound and to stretch your legs while taking in some war history. It's fun to go up on the lighthouse and read the hotkey on their dioramas. It was a great sunny day when we visited and could see for miles. Restrooms were getting a repainting when we were there so a bit of a queue but otherwise a well appointed park.

  • 5/5 Thin I. 11 months ago on Google
Couldn't have picked a better day to visit! The weather was perfect, and they even had members of our armed services there to help us if we had any questions. The grounds were well maintained, and even the bathrooms were very clean! Will definitely return next time we are in the area.

Well kept park. Lots of people flying kites. Bunkers were cool, with plaques up in some of the rooms to explain the history. Great spot for a picnic, and to relax.

Beautiful big open fields, multiple places to picnic, plenty of restrooms, lots of parking. Well maintained roads. The buildings are amazing and so full of history. Definitely worth visiting. Even has a pretty lighthouse. You need a pass to park there.

A hidden gem of state parks. Tons of unique history and a level of access to everywhere on the fort and the grounds. The large field behind the emplacements is perfect for those who want to fly a kite. The beach is typical beach rock and amazing. You can see the tidal forces at work just off the point. Definitely a great day trip.

  • 4/5 Aaron N. 11 months ago on Google
I wish there was more history included besides a few plaques. It would be cool if they had some mock ups of the powder rooms and mannequins in period clothing. Otherwise it a very cool fort to walk through. Self. Got a tour. Not really accessible if you're in a wheelchair, but otherwise very nice walking and you can choose how many stairs you would like to climb

Great historical site to visit. Its rare to have so much freedom to see an old coastal fort. On a nice day, expect a huge crowd of people visiting at the same time. Some rooms are lit and have explanations of what they were used for, others are completely dark and empty.

Great little find while waiting for the ferry to Port Townsend. Camping on the beach looked nice though I didn't tour the grounds. Exploring the retired military battery was amazing. Some of the doors are open and you can walk underground in the tunnels. This state park is a must day trip if you find yourself on Whidbey.

  • 5/5 Kevin K. 3 years ago on Google
Nice clean park with lots of history. Very immersive with ladders, rooms and doorways to explore with placards placed in keys areas telling the story of this historic site. Pack a lunch!

  • 5/5 Pui See C. 3 years ago on Google
It is an open area with Fort Casey and this light house at the other end. It is quite nested in the area and you need a discover pass to visit this area. I suggest getting an annual pass for $35 or you have to pay $11.50 for a one day pass. The fort was a very nice, well preserved, and is kids friendly though there may be some higher grounds and ladders down to the rooms that may be slippery when wet. Oh deer, they roam so freely!

  • 5/5 Angela H. 3 years ago on Google
Kiddos love to explore and climb! Careful of the heights and cliffs for little kiddos. Dog friendly. Beautiful view and large fields to run and play.

Fun state park. Lots of large grass fields lead up to the well maintained fort. Great place to discuss the history of forts with kids and to let them run up and down and experience it for themselves. The park is extremely well maintained and serves many different purposes. Great place to catch a sunset on the ocean as well.

  • 5/5 Shannon E. 3 years ago on Google
A super fun place to explore. Great for families and groups, although some of the battlements are high without guard rails so be careful if you have little children. Dogs must be on leash. People playing frisbee and flying kites. Gorgeous water front full of driftwood.

The best of the Sea Forts. See below for my favorite images from a recent day there :) Fort Casey is part of a triangle defense system of sea forts that began construction in the 1890s for the protection of the inner Puget Sound. It and its sister forts, Flagler and Warden, have a good bit of history spanning their operational period which lasted until the end of WWII. Fort Casey is, of the three, the best maintained with a great deal of restoration and information on site to satisfy anyone interested in the history of the forts. The Fort has open underground bunker areas to explore, excellent beach access, a lighthouse on site and stunning ocean overlooks with view of the Olympics on a clear day. There is also ferry access to Port Townsend and the State Park has a campground onsite with tent and RV sites A great place to explore in Washington, only about 1-2 hours in a car from Seattle one way. Bring a good flashlight 🔦 Most areas are kid friendly, but supervision is recommended inside the dark interiors and near the high bluff drop offs
