This UNESCO world heritage site a must see while in the area. There are also some other cool places to visit nearby like the Mikoyan Brothers Museum.

It's nice to walk around this old monastery complex. We are the only visitors when we went there on a Monday so it's very peaceful.

One of the most beautiful monasteries we visited in Armenia. The location itself is magnificent, mountain views are so unreal. The place itself has very pleasant and peaceful ambience. Must visit if you are in the Lori region.

Another beautiful monastery site, and we we were lucky to see a priest performing a liturgy solo when there. Not crowded at all, and great explanations from our Hyur Service guide Samuel. I have to say though in competition with Haghpat, it is more impressive IMO then Sanahin.

Located in Sanahin village close to Alaverdi in the north of Armenia, you will find Sanahin Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Monastery that allows you to escape to an ancient world. Sanahin is not a simple, stand-alone church, but it is rather a compilation of five churches that during its prime in the 12th to 13th centuries, was a school of calligraphers, philosophers, illuminators, and scientists. It was also an active book depository amongst other things. Worth to visit, however the road condition is not so good.

Sanahin Monastery is the second UNESCO World Heritage Site in Armenia dating to the year 966. We were among very few people to visit and loved it very much. It’s not every day that you get to visit monasteries that are over 1000 years old.

Amazing architecture. Appears one church is actually in use here.Good views of valley below. Just another monastery without a guide. Shady location with large picnic tables would be good for a picnic on a warm day.

I am a professional English speaking tour guide in Armenia. Every time I take a group to Sanahin Monastery Complex, people usually amazed by beauty of this place, surrounded by mountains.

Roads in town down on the hill still in reconstruction and very muddy but Complex is open for visitors. Very silent and peaceful plase.

One of the Oldest monastery. Very interesting. Unfortunately, long road from Erevan: to visit Dereb cañón and its Monasteries, better to forecast a night in Alaverdi valley . At architectural level, one of the most interesting.

When we arrived, we didn’t really like the kiosks outside the monastery. Instead of being friendly and directing people to the monastery, one lady was just trying to sell you stuff. You can roam inside the monastery by yourself or i’ve seen some guests with a guide. I guessed, she is from there. The monastery is still functional, you can light candles for your prayers. It doesn’t really take long to explore the complex.

Beautiful, peaceful, spiritual, and an extremely well built and designed Monastery. It's surrounded by the beauty of Northern Armenia.

A stunning ancient monastery. Down by the car park there are a number of souvenir stalls where you can buy beautiful cheap moonstone jewellery or moonstone in the rough.

Quite a fascinating monastery complex steeped in history. Recommended that you bring a guide if you want to get the most out of it though.

Beautiful place, incredible nature, high mountains, fresh air, natural healthy food. If you decided to visit Armenia, you should come to Lori region, visit Sanahin, Hagpat, Kobair, Akhtala monasteries, Lori berd fortress, Stepanavans dendropark and many other places.
