Great day out from salento. To get there just walk to the main square where you’ll find a willy jeep. Buy a return ticket (4+4mil) to ride in the jeep which takes you to the cocorra valley (30 min drive). Highly recommend taking money you need 8 mil for jeeps 5+5 mil for entrance to private property and some cash for coffee + cake, 1.5L water, sunscreen, cap, hiking boots or trainers as the path can be very muddy. If you want a short route to see the wax palms just head straight up the road uphill. However If you want to do the 4.5 hour whole trail through the jungle with rivers waterfalls and bridges I highly recommend doing it anticlockwise as it is very steep and muddy in places and much easier doing that uphill. Instructions copied from a website but worked for us: 1. Where the jeep drops you off you’ll see a blue gate. Turn right and enter through the gate. Immediately, you’ll see a wooden sign saying “Bienvenidos, etc”. You can’t miss it. Continue walking straight, while descending down the hill. After about 40 minutes, you’ll arrive at the wooden signpost with “Fundacion Herencia Vero”, among other signs. Stay to the right of it. Even if it looks like there is a fork in the road, if you take the wrong way, it’ll be obvious within minutes and you can backtrack to the main trail. You’ll cross numerous rickety suspension bridges (5 or 6). Arrive at an actual T-junction in the road with a wooden sign saying “Acaime La Casa de Los Colibris” and another sign with a big red arrow pointing right. This is the way to go for hummingbirds, before backtracking back to this same junction. If you don’t want to go to the hummingbirds (we didn’t), then continue up the hill on the left. You will go up, up, up for about an hour Arrive at the Finca La Montaña with great views. You can stop here for a drink and a break. Bring a picnic! Descending down from the Finca, you’ll hike for about an hour and a half on a wide dirt road before reaching the Wax Palm Trees. From there enjoy the view and you can easily find your path back to where you started. To get the jeep back you just return to where you were dropped off and once it fills up to 10 people they’ll drive back! Enjoy!!

A beautiful place with incredible views. If you take the long hike up into the mountain, be sure to give yourself a lot of time. It is 4 hours up and 4 hours back. Worth it if you have time. If you are just looking for something shorter you can access the valley fairly easily and the scenery doesn't disappoint. A short distance from Salento and a definite must see if in the area.

Beautiful trail! We started from the rain forest part, went to the peak, then continued through the walking path. Very recommended, much more quiet in this side. We saw a waterfall and walked across some bridges & rivers. You have to pay 2 times, COP 5k & 10k (they just increased the fee). Additional 15k if you want to visit the hummingbird reservation.

Awesome place, nice 12.5km trek (approximately), easy to follow, hard to get lost. Awesome pictures and views. Took us 5 and half hours to complete with easy peace. Suitable even for little bit less fit people. In the morning I recommend to be at least at 7am at the main square in Salento and take Jeep which costs 8000 cop per person, both ways. Jeeps ride approximately every 30-40 minutes, so if you miss one, you will probably have to wait. You will pay 20 000cop to enter national park - pay at the entrance counter, plus another 6000 in the end, if you decide to make big loop. Recommending doing it counter clockwise - so at first you will walk nicer trail, with not that big inclination and beautiful views on Cocora valley, then you will descend into rainforest, walk near the river and pass a lot of interesting bridges over the river. Plus you end up closer to the parking where jeeps stops and takes you back. In the afternoon there is a lot of people going down and not that much jeeps, so expect waiting around 30 minutes for ride down.

Spectacular valley, we walked to Cocora Valley from Salento, then we did the famous hike in Cocora, 23 km in total. Walking from Salento to Cocora is very beautiful, you'll see the beauty of nature all the way to Cocora. Most people take the jeep to Cocora from Salento, but if you're good in shape, walk to Cocora, you'll remember every step you make for the rest of your life. You can also have a cup of great coffee at the view point and enjoy the gorgeous view of Cocora. I also recommend you to visit the big waterfall between Salento and Cocora. We stayed in Salento for a week, every day we did a different trip and at night we came back to Salento. We also visited coffee farms, and the thermal baths an hour drive from Salento. Don't take horse rides in Cocora, please...those horses are skinny and being abused and given very hard works only to gain more money. Just walk and enjoy the beauty. This place is also great to being your dog and your kids.

A really beautiful mountain range and valley suitable for short and long hikes. You can interact with the horses on the field. Make sure to bring water because you won’t find any vendor for a good while. Paid parking. No public restrooms. No drone flying. Short trail takes about 2 hours and long trails are indefinitely long. Good free and paid decor near the entrance for photo shoots.

Magical hike! We did the Cocora Valley Loop with the optional detour to Acaime. We payed $10k + $6k COP each for the normal route and $15k for the visit to Acaime. We recommend doing the loop counterclockwise, to end with the highlight of the palm trees field. The part along the Quindío river was very muddy, as it had been raining a lot in the last few days—we would have been glad to have hiking sticks and, even better, rubber boots. We thought Acaime was alright, not mind-blowing but worth the visit nevertheless. We saw humming birds of mostly a single species (dark green ones) constantly and up close. We did the hike in a total of 6 hours (moving time: 4h09m). We took plenty of photos. We're attaching a map in case it helps. A bit chaotic to arrive/leave. They could certainly organize things much better to reduce traffic/waiting. We'd recommend arriving and departing early (before the rush). We started hiking at 9:00 and drove back at 16:00.

This is one of the most beautiful places in Colombia. Breathtaking. Amazing views. We spent there for about 4 hours, but there’s much more to see. So you better plan this trip early in the morning, to get the most of it. We have been there in October, weather was amazing, no rain, even though you can see lots of clouds :) it’s so fresh up there. It’s really worth to visit this place and see its unique nature.

Valle del Cocora was awesome! We took a car in front of the police station in Salento (the center of town) and paid 8,000 for a ticket there and back. The drive was beautiful! Then you'll have to pay a 5000 fee twice during your hike because it goes through private land. It's a loop, so pick your direction and go explore. The scenery is surreal! You'll recognize it once you watch the movie Encanto.

Gut mit dem eigenen Auto zu erreichen. Wichtig: Bis zum letzten Parkplatz fahren und nicht vorher von den Parkwächtern beeinflussen lassen. Man spart viel Fußweg. Ansonsten viele Menschen. Lesen Sie die Karte am Kassenhäuschen. Eine spätere Ausschilderung der Wege ist nicht vorhanden.

Definitely one of the beauties of Colombia. The walking trail is easy to do and takes you to a hummingbirds nest and through the park. If walking is too much for you then you can rent a horse as well (but I don’t recommend that, poor animals). The weather is constantly changing around this area, so you’ll have some foggy photos as well as clear blue sky photos! If you’re taking the jeep from Salento, make sure to be one of the last to get on the jeep, that way you can ride on the back of the jeep and have amazing views!! Definitely recommend to go here

I can recommend the 12km hike in the morning, which is definitely less crowded than the hike to the viewpoint. The level of the trail is easy-intermediate incl. passing of 5 hanging bridges. The views arround the trail are stunning, its one of the most beautiful landscapes i have seen.

One of my best trekking. Plenty options for trekking from easy to hard options. You can explore jungle pass several bridges and climb. As a reward you will see tallest palms spectacular expose. Lovely experience!

Absolutely amazing. Words can't describe how beautiful this place is but here I am trying to explain it. The adventure began in the town center of Salento where we boarded a "jeep willy" ($4,000 COP per person each way. $8k total per person round-trip). We were taken directly to the entrance of Valle del Cocora (25mins from Salento). The entrance fee to Cocora was 5k COP per person. Once you enter the valle you are welcomed by beautiful plants, trees and endless rolling hills and mountains in all directions. We hiked the short route which takes you up along the hillside to two different miradores (view points). To be honest, we thought the entire hike was a view point as there are so many amazing photo opportunities every step of the way. After our hike up to mirador 2, we hiked a back down to mirador 1 and followed the path down to the makeshift wooden table that looks over the valley and the entrance point of the park. This is the place where we got lucky enough to see a giant condor cruising around in the valley directly in front of us. It was such an amazing moment to witness such a beautiful and rare to see bird in Valle del Cocora. Overall, we had such an amazing time and I have to say that this is one of the most beautiful places in the world. It's 100% a must visit when in Colombia. Enjoy!

Breathtaking views! Different lengths of paths, so some are good for kids or people who want to do shorter walks (30 minutes to 2.5 hours) and you still see beautiful things. There is a map at the entrance where you pay and they explain the paths and approximate lengths. Best thing is to come around 7.30am to 8am to start walking for less crowds and better pictures. It starts to get busy at 10am. Lots of cars coming in.

Gorgeous day and a must do! This area was stunning in every way. We took the jeep from Salento and walked about 7 miles doing the whole loop. We went counterclockwise to end with the palms and it was a good choice. It was full of rope bridges, waterfalls, and much easier than going with a group.

A gorgeous place to go, amazing vistas and stunning terrain. Rode bike up the valley, and stopped here at a local restaurant. Rustic, but perfect after a long ride. Cold beer, cold showers (you need that after a long ride;refreshing), and lots of good food. You won’t regret coming here or eating in the area!

One of the most beautiful hikes we’ve ever done. The pictures don’t do this place justice. It is just stunning. We took a regular taxi from Armenia, the roads were totally fine and a Jeep Willy is not necessary but could be a fun experience. No shortage of photo opportunities.

Absolutely fantastic hike. Recommend bringing water proof boots and a rain jacket. Go counter clockwise on the trail and I definitely recommend coming early, like 6 or 7 am. By 9 it starts to get very crowded. Also make sure to bring cash, there are some "fees" and you'll need cash to use the restroom at the finca. Beautiful hike and very worth it 👌🏾.

Visited in January and went early enough in the day to beat the late morning storms. Such a beautiful place, with plenty of backdrops to take pictures and even options to horseback ride before/after hiking. Definitely a must stop when in the Salento area!

Lovely valley to explore. Doing the loop is definitely a good choice. There is a reserve to see birds where you need to pay 20k pesos. It was confusing the fact that we had to pay 20k pesos to go inside the valley and 6k pesos to leave. The valley is beautiful and the trails are very easy to follow.

Amazing valley full of palm trees and horses. The clouds will hang to the valley almost all the time, so as you keep going up it will start raining. My advice is to take a good rain jacket.

We made the 12 kilometer trek. It starts with a 3.5km walk beer the river. Then a 200m height climb through a rainy forest (that takes about 40 minutes). Then few kilometers on a straight road. The huge palms are amazing! With a calm walk the trip took us around 5 hours.

Amazing and unique place to visit. Very popular with local and foreign tourists. Avoid visiting over the weekends if possible as it gets way too crowded. There is option to do 2,3 or 6 hour hikes here. We did the 6 hour hike and it was amazing. From Salento you can take the Willy/jeep and it costs 6000 COP for 2 way ticket. Better to buy the tickets in advance.

COCORA What a wonderful experience. First, we traveled to the valley of Cocora. our guide, Took the necessary time to talk to us about the local area and the history of the valley. He was extremely knowledgeable on birds, landscape, the very tall wax palms, and we prayed to see a condor. Recommend having comfortable shoes with grip if you plan to walk up the sides of the very steep hills. If you have hiking shoes I recommend bringing those for this portion of the tour. we drove through Salento. The location was absolutely stunning with the most beautiful vibrant colors and the most fantastic food. it was definitely a major highlight of my visit and I would recommend this trip to anyone.

Absolutely stunning place to visit. I would recommend starting your visit from outside the 'park' which is a path about half a mile down the road. This allows you to go through the really fun Bridges etc and then do the wax palms at the end. A note for people traveling here is that the lone trees are not the way wax palms are supposed to grow, from the ecological tours we took, will likely not be there in 1-2 generations, so the particular views you are getting are as one person called ' a beautiful ecological disaster'. There are many who are working to restore the wax palms and allow the jungle to grow as it's supposed to so that they can thrive in a normal environment.

Truly wonderful. Sometimes slippery but immensely worthwhile (even in the rain) hike in nature, with excellent scenery. A unique opportunity to see the rare wax palms outside of a dense forest. There are stops along the way, where water, coffee and a very limited range of snacks and drinks can be bought.

FOR HIKERS the jeeps drop you off in a very touristy area. If you’re just looking to hike after you get off the jeeps continue up the trail passed all the colorful signs. Then keep going until you see a booth on the right with 20,000 COP clearly displayed. Pay your entry and enjoy your hike. For the long 12km loop you’ll pay an additional 6,000 COP on your way back and the trail ends where the Jeeps take you back to city center. They say 4-6 hours but I did it in 3. The horses we met were all very friendly.

Really nice hike, you will go through a large variation of flora and fauna if you take the long walk, would recommend starting the walk at the valley since the climb is easier this way. There is also a nice hummingbird reserve that I would recommend to visit. Really one of the best walks of the country.

Beautiful valley with awesome views of the highest palm trees in the world. Very doable hike through the hills and the forrest. The ride there from Salento is well organised with locals driving you there in jeeps.

It is one of the highlights of Colombia in my opinion. I would recommend to start a hike early in the morning. We took a jeep at 6:30 am, we were just 5 foreigners and a few locals. A little bit later its getting more crowded on the hiking trail so it can be less exicing. But views are amazing!

Speechless. Amazing place that brings you close to nature. The mountains and valleys stretch as far as the eyes can see. The palm trees must be the tallest in the world. The people are so friendly and willing to share their gem. Pictures dont do justice, a MUST see in person. You wont be disappointed.

Cocora valley is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. The hike is long but definitely worth it. We did the full loop + the hike to Acaime (hummingbird house). I would skip the extra stretch to the Acaime next time though.

  • 5/5 אביטל . 4 years ago on Google
Very beautiful views. The long route goes through a not very interesting forest, without any view to the valley, and is almost all uphill. So I would recommend taking the short route which has the best views anyways, but if you insist on the long route do it from the opposite direction so it will be almost all downhill.

One of the most spectacular places I’ve been in my life. Unforgettable. Take the circuit hike by turning right on the main road, make sure to visit the butterfly (colibrí) house at the end of the trail before you start climbing the hill, and get ready for an unforgettable experience. The hike takes about 4 hours round trip.

Fantastic hike. Easy to get there (main square in Salento). Keeps go from there and cost 8k pesos return per person. Make sure you keep hold of your return ticket! From there, there's a range of hikes you can do. I recommend the longest (4-7 hour) hike (depends a lot on how often you stop at the waterfalls/viewpoints etc etc. It's a bit muddy and the weather changes frequently so worth bringing sun cream and raincoat etc! Really great hike though - one of the best things I did in Colombia.

This place is simply amazing, it's easy to arrive there because it's very popular in the zone. I would recommend get in there early and do the full hike ( 6-5 hours aprox ) or the mid hiking (3 hours aprox), get water, food and comfortable wear. Trust me I'll love this place

It is a lovely place, very beautiful and unique valley with tallest palm trees in the world. I highly recommend to come early in the morning (7:00 am), the place is quiet with no tourists and the sky is often clear which won't last for a long.

  • 5/5 Viktoryia P. 1 year ago on Google
Absolutely amazing place. I can highly recommend the long, 12km trek, with a lot of stops and a half hour search for the path it took me 4 hours in total. You pay 10k at the beginning + 5k at the end. Beautiful views at the beginning and at the end, and a nice forest walk in between, the climb is mild and enjoyable. I can recommend starting it from the casita next to the furthest parking lot, like that the hike up will be less strenuous. It gets muddy, so be sure to wear appropriate water-resistant boots, they will get dirty. At one point many people, including myself, got confused about how to proceed, as the trail wasn't well marked. When you go down from the finca (the only one on the way), there will be a sign towards the colibri house. If you wanna see it, proceed, but then you'll have to go back to the same spot to continue to the exit. Otherwise, turn right and follow the river. It's not obvious at first, but soon you'll see the trail again, and there will be bridges to cross from one side to the other. Follow them. Enjoy!

  • 4/5 Taylor G. 2 years ago on Google
If you are looking to just visit the trees do not do the full circuit. It’s so much extra time and physical exertion. The full circuit is otherwise a gorgeous hike. I went counterclockwise. This means there is an extremely intense vertical scramble about 2/3s of the way through. I’d recommend the other way

  • 5/5 Seva N. 1 year ago on Google
A must visit destination while in Colombia! Breathtaking views, amazing nature, a great place for hiking (full loop around the park takes about 5-6 hours and include crossing many wobbly and fun bridges, climbing some rocks, hopping from one slippery rock to another, and much more. Definitely a very fun and unforgettable hike), and a very easy to navigate around place (it also helps having a lot of tourist there at all times). Highly recommend visiting!

  • 5/5 Mary R. 1 year ago on Google
The valley is breathtakingly beautiful. There are trails accessible through private fincas or farms which charge a small sum. We did the 20 km trail which take you through 3 different private properties (10k, 15k, 5k/ roughly 6 to 8 hours). It's not mandatory to do all three. We can only do 1 or 2 trails. For the hummingbird reserve, one of the 2 trails need to be done as it's right on top. The view is fabulous and there are waterfalls near the river where one can bathe. The hummingbird trail is the most expensive and is basically a house with someone feeding the birds water with sugar. I'd give that one a miss if I'd known. Everything is touristy in the Cocora valley but nowhere else have I seen trees like these!

  • 3/5 Luis Felipe Ariza V. 7 months ago on Google
I see cocora valley too crowded. Transport and traditional coffee with panela is cheap. However , other things are expensive. Service is above normal. It is incredible to pay 20000 cop to enter to do trekking. 80000 to have a guide and 600000 for a guide with food. I think this place is not worth the money. Salento also is too expensive and crowded and you feel uncomfortable. Please do not visit this place on holy days or vacations, it will be too dense for people.

  • 5/5 Tuval R. 7 months ago on Google
One of the most beautiful and dramatic places I've been to. The place is very touristic, but it doesn't make it less attractive. There are a couple of entrances to minor attractions when you get to tue park. The last entrance is the one leading to trails and beautiful sculpturs (such as a hand you can sit on and take a photo with the mountains and palm trees surrounding). The big restaurant at the last entrance had a surprisingly good coffe and cake.

  • 4/5 Yesica R. 8 months ago on Google
This place is the definition of Colombian mountains! The palm trees are amazing and the weather is majestic, I really like the way they have organized the hikes, I’m Giving it 4 stars because for me it’s a bit too much tourist orientated and crowded.

  • 5/5 Stephen I. 8 months ago on Google
Spectacular area for hiking, with no need for a guide. The lookout from the massive palm trees is a real highlight. We did the 11km loop and it was moderately difficult (I'm 43).

  • 5/5 Lina S. 10 months ago on Google
Absolutely loved this park! It sucks because it was sprinkling, so I couldn't stand on the iconic hand, but I got close enough. There are so many photo op stations surrounded by beautiful green views of the valleys.

  • 5/5 Michelin 7 months ago on Google
The experience at Cocora Valley was amazing; however, I would recommend avoiding weekends or public holidays. It gets quite crowded during those times, and you might end up waiting in long queues just to take a photo. On your way back to Salento, make sure you stop at "Donde Laurita en Salento." The food there is delicious.

Maybe the most stunning place I’ve ever been to. Unbelievable how beautiful it is here. We did a hike across a mountain to finally get there, I would recommend to do that hike. You can also take a short cut, but i believe you’ve got to pay for it.

Wroth the drive. This place is gorgeous and wonderful. The mountains and view are legendary. You can ride horses or walk up to the river, there's several restaurants and many places to get coffee. Playgrounds for the kids and a lot to do!!

  • 4/5 Kyle P. 6 months ago on Google
It was worth the trip but it does take a while to get there and the roads are narrow with a lot of turns. The valley is beautiful and the trees are magnificent. There is a good amount of parking available as well as some formal parks so that you can take pictures and walk up the side of the hill and get a better view. There is a ranch with horses that you can ride down the valley as well.

Incredible views! I would recommend hiking the large loop, which is a lot less crowded than the hike to the view point. The views are wonderful, you get to walk over 5 hanging bridges and pass beautiful waterfalls. It took us about 5 hours to complete the loop. I would recommend starting early enough, since the latest jeeps return to Salento at 18h20 and you definitely don’t want to miss those! Good hiking shoes, long trousers and a rain jacket are also recommend. Entrance to the long loop is 20.000 COP, you can pay at the start of the trails and continue through all checkpoints after.
