Amazing castle in the middle of desert. Worth to visit. Good refreshing tea in the tent at the entrance.

This over 1,300 year old desert castle, which was built by the mighty Ummayad Khilafah, دولة الخلافة الأموية is definitely worth visiting and exploring with family and friends. The place is well maintained by the Jordanian authorities (visitor's facilities were adequate) and leaves you with a sense that you travelled back in time to the 7th century. Walking through the castle's many ancient rooms and chambers and courtyard and climbing its ancient stone stairs, one could, if he carefully listens, hear the sounds of horses and imagine the oil lamps on the walls and hustle and bustle of caravans passing through. Jordan is rich with such archeological wonders. Sub7an Allah.

This desert castle is my favorite from the all main castles to visit in Jordan. It looks like a fort and it is still in good shape. It's way bigger than the other ones and I like it there very much. There are even a facilities and small souvenir and snack shop where to hide head in the hot weather. Thank you 🤩

What an amazingly historic castle in the desert. I really enjoyed my time here. It’s still very well preserved and taken care of. It has lots to see, you can walk inside up and around the buildings. It has lovely artwork that decorates the interior in certain places. It was definitely worth checking out, if you’re into history. I would recommend visiting this lovely castle.

Visited off season and had the place to ourselves. A wonderfully preserved sand stone castle from c.740 AD. Multiple rooms and two floors to explore. Ornate carvings throughout. Do take care as on 2nd floor there are full length window gaps with a sheer drop down and no barrier. Fun to explore and imagine what the place may have been as nobody knows for sure. Basic facilities on site inc WC and a Bedouin tent. Worth a visit if you're also going to the other castles in the area and have a Jordan pass.

Interesting well-preserved fort in the middle of a dusty wasteland. You don't necessarily have to see it; Jordan has more impressive things to offer.

Remarkably intact castle dating back to the 7th century. The purpose of the building continues to be a topic of consideration for historians and scholars. It's nearly perfectly square and has slits I assumed was used by archers for defense, but it turns out they are for ventilation/temperature/dust control and allow light into the outer rooms.

Umayyad archaeological site, two stories with around 61 rooms, you can find the water system traces beside the main door. Their is a need for interpretation signs to enhance the visitors informations.

An interesting desert castle dated to 710 AD. Loved seeing bird nests and birds in a historic location! There's a small government office onsite and a rest house.

Beeindruckend gut erhalten. Fresken aus frühislamischer Zeit. Vermittelt einen guten Eindruck vom Leben der Menschen im 8. Jahrhundert im heutigen Jordanien. Toiletten am Einlass sind gewöhnungsbedürftig.

Amazing place! The way how the temperature is controlled inside and how the architects were capturing the wind for air circulation is incredible. You can get tickets here to see three desert castles for just 3 JOD. There is a little shop outside where you can see and buy some fossil fuels!

A beautiful structure in the middle of the vast desert. There are two floors. Informative placards are there that describe the history.

Very interesting castle? A big fortress looking building literally in the middle of nowhere, thought to have been used as an inn for travellers

From. The highway doesn't look like much, but inside the castle is very cool. Drove a little out of the way, but worth the trip.

If you plan to see the other dessert castles - it’s a „must“ - it’s the best preserved. It’s directly on the highway - so not that much atmosphere there.

Nice place to visit and check, not much to see but what a great history to feel. When you arrive there you will see an empty big open ground, you will walk to the palace. A small room in the main square for bathrooms which was not clean at all. However still the place are nice and great to be visited. Very important to know there's no tickets to enter.

A really interesting place. This is not a castle but an old hotel for caravans :) You can enter there with Jordan Pass. There are some guys out there that will offer you "open the door for you" or something like that :) The door is open all the time so ... but if you want to hear a story for a few dinars this is a good idea.

Well preserved castle in an absolute desolate place. The barren surroundings make the building look even more impressive. Local tea pourer Khalid in the bedouin tent next to the visitor centre taught us a lot about Bedouin and Islamic tradition.

Really nice and well preserved castle. Kind of boring once you are inside, but a unique sight once you approach it. The shop close by has a very nice owner. Khalil is happy to give you some tea, coffee, and answer any questions you have

A 2 story palace dated more or less 710 AD, during Umayad dynasty. You will be amazed how sturdy the stone rubles are, standing up in the test of time till now, amazed how they architectured and engineered their ceiling and ventilation.

There is a debate among scholar's what it was used for. There is a guide that tries to pester you into hiring him to show you around. We just ignored and we walked around. All the rooms look the same but a few have some beautiful designs left behind. It was fun to see.
