Sara Square Suly has a local Bazaar where you can buy almost everything you need. The city is well known for this square, with its big portrait of Shex Mahmood Nemir. Many people go there to sit, read books and chat.

The centre of the town. Sara is an old word in Middle Kurdish meaning square or meeting point. It comes from the old Median word Srāda meaning crossing over. The word caravansary is cognate with this word. Bardarkī Sarā means at the entrance of the town square. When the Bābān dynasty built the city up from the existing districts they chose this location to be the centre as it was in the middle of the Medieval District of Kānīaskān(Deer spring), Saponkerān(Soapmakers) and the ancient district of Melkendi which was the centre of the ancient city of Zāmwā. This city has a lot of history and the town square being overlooked with the Picture of Sheikh Mahmoud the last Kurdish Monarch bears witness to the illustrious past of this nation.

Located on the corner among the hustle and the bustle of the busy Market place , with lots to shops around to choose from clothes, beauty products, the traditional tea n shawarma outlets, overlooking the big Mosque, surrounded by a number of malls offering a vast variety of services and products, you will get be-dazzled with the choices you have and most of all probably a culture of not being forced or disturbed while choosing what you want to buy , by the vendors, they will let you comfortably go through the store and will intervene only when asked for any assistance. a vast choice that you can choose from that can and if not desired will not pinch your pocket, but above all and very friendly and kind attitude you'll experience with the people of Kurdistan.

Historical place with a lot of political charge and value for the people of Sulaymaniyah. Restructured and redesigned by NMA in collaboration with CULD from The Netherlands.
