I've been a paying member for several years (3+) and had to leave as I relocated interstate. It was short notice on my end, and I informed Surge as quickly as possible. They have a 30 day cancellation policy which is strictly enforced, even when loyal, long-term members have genuine reasons for leaving. To say I'm annoyed to have to pay for weeks of a service I cannot possibly use is an understatement. In the modern age of customer service, there is very little leniency in their policies and handling of ex-members. I have noticed a reduction of member's benefits, most noticeably a $20 voucher once a year on your birthday to go towards their products and services. While not a reason to join, reducing existing benefits to current members (rather than simply not offering to new members) speaks volumes of their attitude. Expansive collection of gym equipment in both variety and quantity. Happy with the facilities.

Future gym members of Surge , please be very aware of what contact you sign with Surge. You get signed in for a year and even though you have moved states and can no longer use their facilities, you are tied in for the whole contract...........

When my daughter wanted to cancel her membership due to personal reason, she was told, the process will be 2 weeks notice for the auto payment to be stop. But it has been 4 weeks, Surge wanneroo still charge the payment. When my daughter went to the centre to fill up cancellations form, she was told that they cannot find the form and told her to come back. NOT VERY HAPPY WITH THE WAY ITS ORGANISE!!!!

Not the greatest gym in the Northern suburbs. The gym equipment is packed in too close togehter; be careful as floor sockets are not flushed and are an accident trip hazard. There are at least one or two pieces of equipment out of action at any given time and the repair times can be several weeks. The reception staff make announcements about the compulsory use of towels when members sit on gym equipment, but never actually enforce this hygiene rule. Management appear to exploit the personal trainers, who in turn exploit the gym members to have as many personal training sessions with them - the cost of which can be quite expensive. There is a quick turn over of personal trainers at this gym. The stretch area has been reduced with the recent refurbishment. All-in-all, I would rate this gym as a two out of five.

Worst experience I have ever had trying to leave a gym in my life. I have been to multiple gyms through out the years and surge has to be by far the most difficult gym to leave. They will draw this process out for as long as they possibly can, trying to get every last cent they can from you. There was confusion originally with the leaving process and I accepted I hadn’t read an email properly to begin with, however after going in and signing the necessary paperwork to finalise my cancellation and being told the payments would stop, they have once again continued to charge. I will never suggest surge to anyone ever again

I have been trying to leave Surge Wanneroo since April 2019 as my contract finished then and I was no longer fit to attend the gym, but they continued to charge me for 4 months. I visited the gym and spoke to them on numerous occasions about cancelling my membership and even signed a cancellation form, but that did not make a difference. I had to visit my bank, close my account and demand to be reimbursed for the extra money I was out. The owner promised that I would be reimbursed and I still have not been to this day. I would not recommend this gym as I find the communication between staff members is insufficient and it takes advantage of it's members.

Unconscionable, soulless, money-hungry management and cold reception staff who couldn't give less about you as a person. I've had phone contracts and rental agreements are more flexible than this lot. Give this one a skip.

Stars are only for the extremely nice and helpful people at reception desk, the lost stars are for the person who calls customers about membership cancellation. Do not ask me 3-4 times WHY I’m cancelling my membership and when I give you an answer you say “but WHY?” Excuse me!? None of your business, I felt so invaded and vulnerable! Until I realised who I was talking to (haha). If I want to be released from my 12 month locked in contract and do not want to tell you why or simply because I really don’t want to go to the gym anymore, DO NOT continue to say ‘BUT WHY’ ffs. (Even after offering options for me to stay, respect my first, second and third repeated answer!!) After my 12 month CONTRACT is up, it should just be cancelled, especially when I call and ask!!! Love the sneaky 1 month payments you take after the 12 months that’s a scam and a half, so you should maybe let you customers know it’s actually a 13 month contract !!!? Cheers -

I have been contemplating whether I should leave a review as the fitness industry is pretty small. But after my recently experience I feel like I need to share my honest opinion. I was a Lesmills group fitness instructor for years and due to knee injuries, in the past few years I've been teaching Pilates and Yoga only. I recently joined the gym after having a baby. I wanted to do dancing classes and reformer pilates. Though it turned out the Monday night class isn't really a dancing class but that's fine. I have been to reformer classes taught by 5 different instructors. And I can say there were only 2 instructors classes were taught professionally and enjoyable. I have been to a class taught by Fiona and I just wanted to leave after 5 minutes. Very unenthusiastic and boring class, she was not engaged or present and the most I remembered about the class was that she was counting a lot, that's all. I never returned after 1 class. I did however enjoy Jaime and Samina's classes. I couldn't book a reformer class yesterday as they are very popular and often booked up quickly. I went to a TRX suspension class instead for the first time. Firstly the instructor didn't greet anyone or even ask if anyone has injuries before starting the class. There was another who told the instructor it was her first time trying the class. The instructor didn't say anything helpful but oh I need to pack the stuff away for the next class and just went on doing what she was doing. I could tell that lady was quite intimidated. If I weren't an ex instructor I would have find it intimidating too. As a first time participant I definitely didn't feel welcome. Anyway, 5 minutes into the class, I was doing lunges. The instructor walked towards me and asked me to go lower in my lunge. I told her 'I can't because I have knee injuries, I will just do half ranges'. She looked at me funny and said 'of course you can'. I was shocked by her response. I insisted that I know what I am doing and I will do what I can. Somehow she didn't like my respond. As she walked away she said 'well this is not the class for you then'. WOW, I have never seen any instructor with such attitude but I polity said to her again I will do what I can and continued on. It is safe to say I will not attend that instructors classes again. Not only the attitude, she didn't bother tying her hair back. As half of the time she was busy tidying her hair while demonstrating. Now about the creche, the staff have been very friendly each time I brough my little one there. But every time I picked him up he smelled like he's been sprayed with very strong perfume. I never mentioned anything to the staff but it did bother me and I had to bath my baby to wash off the smell every time I got home. Recently I noticed my weekly membership has gone up and I was told by reception staff that because I didn't show up for a creche session that I have booked in. I understand that if I don't show up then I would be charged the session I've booked in. But apparently there is an extra fee charged for no shows. Which I was no aware of, that's why I thought it was a membership fee increase without notice. I explained to them that sometimes little babies just decides they want to sleep when mum wants go to the gym and it would be too late to cancel by then. I have no problem for paying for the session that I booked but didn't use but I don't think it is reasonable to charge an extra fee on top of that. After expressing my concerns with the stuff they said they will speak to the manager and contact me. Which they haven't, after calling them back they told me none of the management are working. Great, I am cancelling my membership.

Worst experience from this gym. When I went for a trial they pressured me into joining even though I constantly said I'll see how I go before I decide and they also pressured me on the way out, to which I ended up just joining to not miss out on the deal they had on at the time. After not going there much after that I went in to try and cancel my membership and was told they can't do it at the front desk at all, it has to be done through the app and needs to be approved before I can cancel. I asked what would happen if I didn't cancel and my contract came to an end. I was told that my contract would be automatically renewed and money would continue to come out of my account. So I need their approval to cancel my membership but they don't need my approval to renew my contract and take money out of my account? Also missed a call from them and when calling back I was told they don't know why someone called me and if it was important they'd call again with no solution for me. The customer service here is so pushy and rude. Wouldn't recommend.

I recently cancelled my membership with Surge Wanneroo due to lack of use after three months under a no-lock in contract. I was paying $21 a week which they said was a “promotional price”. I wasn’t too fussed about the price even though you can find many more gyms in North Perth for way cheaper but I had a close friend who I joined with, and occasionally accompanied me. My first complaint with the gym is with my personal trainer and my cancellation. The PT I was given when joining wouldn’t reply to texts when trying to book a session and in my opinion didn’t seem enthusiastic with actually training a newcomer such as me. I ended up only getting two out of the three sessions given to me when joining. My second complaint is when trying to cancel my (no lock-in) contract. I called the gym to inform them about my cancellation and being fully aware of the four week cool down period; I was happy to pay the remaining months worth. The call lasted about a minute with them just making sure I was aware that I had to pay the remaining weeks and a asking why I wanted to leave. The next that day, I received a call from a random number on my phone while at work and couldn’t answer. I forgot to call back and somehow overlooked an email sent to me that afternoon regarding coming into the gym to sign my cancellation which I was in aware of. Two months and a week passes and I noticed I was still being billed. I called them up right away in confusion and explained that I was never informed on the phone about having to come in which wouldn’t have been an issue at all. I was rudely told by the financial manager that I should’ve been informed when I wasn’t and that I could not receive the refund for the 5 weeks I had paid after my anticipated cancellation. I re-read over the terms for my contract (that I felt rushed in signing at the beginning) and it did state in fine print that I would have to come in after 4 weeks. But still, It would’ve been nice of them to inform me on the phone or for them to have re-called me at a later date. It does honestly make them look a bit money hungry even when the money isn’t going directly into their pockets, but the companies. I did however find another bit of fine print that mentions that if you injure yourself or damage anything personal in the gym due to a staff members negligence, the club will not be liable. (Bit off topic but goes to show how “member friendly” Surge is) With that, All I can say is there are plenty more and better options available for gyms so take a pass on this one if you can.

Worse experience of my life, at surge there’s no consideration for customers! I was treated like a nobody and denied entry simply because of unsuccessful direct debit even after attempting to pay on the spot. The staff on said their system couldn’t let them pay because last payment were still processing and it takes 4 days. Like it’s my fault their system can’t accept my payment! How unfair is that? You don’t treat people like that! Especially people who have been royal to you! How many people did I refer to you? Both my sisters joined surge because of me! There are better gyms and with good deals in the area than surge, I’ll be going there.at least I’ll be treated right never again will I put my foot in that gym.

Classes inconsistent (moved around), many classes and challenges cost extra (not inc in weekly charge) and final straw, continued to debit money after my membership was cancelled and refused to refund. I’m my opinion poor management.

It’s an okay gym, I’m currently with two gyms this is my second gym bit busy and more expensive my only problem with this gym is that it’s just dirty. You are paying a premium the most expensive gym in the area in fact I just expect it to be clean but probably has the most disgusting toilets. Apart from that staff are nice gym equipment is decent bit small and crowded but does have a good atmosphere.

Looks like I’m joining the queue of very unhappy people who’ve had an awful customer service experience trying to leave this gym! I cancelled my membership (or thought I did) in January, received a phone call 4 weeks later to say they were sorry for the delay in responding and my membership will be cancelled as of that day with the 4 week period waived. Great, only they never cancelled and continued to take $44.99 per week out of my account for 3.5 months!

Very unprofessional and rip off place. They offer you a free week trial to check out the place, but after a tour of the gym they ask you to choose a membership. You’re not even given a chance to put your gym clothes on, so don’t bother taking them with you!!!! And if you’re not sure they offer you a 30 days membership from only $24.99 per week that you can cancel it after that, but guess what? When you want to cancel it after the 30 days you’re told that you have to pay for an extra 30 days because it needs 30 notice?!!! Oh and please make sure that you start your membership on Friday because otherwise they will charge you prorate for the extra days until Friday. The best part is that no one inform you about it, and if you call to complain, they just tell you they will charge you anyway. These people are just a big fraud and could not be trusted!!!

Amazing gym with a lovely atmosphere. Great facilities and an awesome crèche. I have been a member for over 2 years and enjoy many of the group fitness classes on offer. The trainers and instructors are knowledgeable and approachable and always have your best interests at heart. They teach you know not only the skills and techniques to get the most out of your workout but in a safe an effective way. I’d recommend Surge to anyone looking for a great local gym.

Great facility and professional staff. As a piece of advice I would encourage everyone to read the small prints prior to signing the contract. There is a 30 days notice policy for the cancellation of any Surge gym membership which everyone should be aware. Thank you Jason.

New upgrades in the strength training section coming soon (in time for Christmas) with the added bonus of an altitude training area. Classes run daily from early in the morning untill evening. Added bonus is the creche for the little ones. Thanks Surge Fitness Wanneroo, you guys are awesome.

I have been a member of Surge Wanneroo for around six years and still love the community feel it has. A clean, gym with a relaxed and friendly feel and a good variety of equipment and classes as well as plenty of parking. The gym provides a place for those that are serious about their workout and want to push themselves as well as those there to have fun and destress. The gym has always been responsive to member feedback and has evolved over the years - whether it is adding extra classes or renovating the gym floor, replacing equipment or the showers and lockers as they have recently. The PTs are also very knowledgeable, friendly and approachable.

I have had the worse experience with surge. I have tried to cancel my membership a year ago and had to wait a month before they would call me about it, then wait for an email, then had to go in AGAIN before I could cancel you membership. I am a shift work which is next to impossible for me to do so. They have been taking my money for over a year and I haven't attending the gym for over a year!.

Surge Wanneroo Gym is awesome, it literally ticks all the boxes for a wide variety of impact making group fitness classes (including Reformer Pilates!) but also has so much space and options in the weights/strength training area. All staff have been friendly, helpful and professional. It's such a positive space and I would definitely recommend to others.

Don’t buy their PT course, it’s a broken course, you don’t get feedback, questions glitch saying they are wrong when they arnt. Only help you get is when you email the support team. You don’t get 1 on 1 help like they say you do.

Plenty of classes and equipment on offer here. Communication at the front desk can fall short occasionally but overall staff are helpful and upbeat. Unfortunately I needed to stop using the services due to my own health challenges, exacerbated by the physical activities, but it is nevertheless an affordable and well equipped place you can workout in all weather.
