Α stone building of the 18th century, which was a wheat processing plant. A windmill that needs to be reconstructed on the roof in a very beautiful place and next to it a statue with the theme < the child and the dolphin >.

One of the landmarks which characterises Greek Islands are the windmills and Hydra is not out of that concept by the fact that at just few metres from the port, you will find some windmills facing to the sea which where built in the 18th century. This windmills were used to grind up the wheat in ancient times and nowadays are just landmarks representing its importance for the town. Curiously, this mill in particular, is a very famous spot because it appears in a movie from 1957 named “The Boy on a Dolphin” and just in front of the mill, there is a sculpture representing this movie, a boy riding a dolphin.

Watch the movie the Boy on a Dolphin, from 1957, while you are in Hydra. The places on the island get so much more magical one you understand their context and history.

Hydra became a well-known island due to the 1960s film “Boy on a Dolphin” with amazing m Sofia Loren in the starring role. This statue is placed near the port in order to remember the movie.

Με αυτήν την ταινία που το άγαλμα και ο (πρωην) ανεμόμυλος θυμίζει,ξεκίνησε να γίνεται γνωστή η Ελλάδα σε Ευρώπη και Αμερική, μετά βέβαια καταντησε να είναι βαριά νεοπλουτικη βιομηχανία αλλά αυτό δε θα το πουμε εδώ! 😉
