This place is such a gem! We got there a little early so there was parking (behind the restaurant) and space. The place looks so small from the outside but it's huge! Our waitress was so kind and fun. She loves newcomers so she really took care of us. She was great with her recommendations and we really enjoyed our meals! We were too full to have our desserts and had to take them to go! Peach Cobbler was amazing! They also made me Georgia Pea Tea Lemonade and it was so good!

Absolutely met our expectations. We had a 6 hour layover in Atlanta on the way to panama. Super easy train ride and a 10 minute walk (takes you by the famous Fox Theatre). Food and service were amazing. Portions are generous. I'm not one to judge a restaurant by the celebrities that have visited but their wall of photos is jaw dropping. Highly recommended place. Can't wait to try again.

Mary Mac’s Tea Room is a historical landmark with classy and authentic decoration. It’s really crowded all day, but the wait wasn’t too bad since we only wait for 15 mins to be seated. The staff was friendly and welcoming to introduce their signature dishes in details since there is a great variety of options on the menu. Every customer needs to order and chooses preferred complimentary bread basket via their menu sheet by writing it down, which was really lovely and old fashioned for us. The selections of homemade bread basket are cornbread, yeast rolls and cinnamon rolls. Most reviews recommend that the cornbread is a must, but our favorite was the cinnamon rolls. We had their Fried Chicken Plate with gravy, Fried Chicken Liver which we never had before and Peach Cobbler. The food was overall satisfying, flavorful but a little greasy since both of our entrees were fried food.

Let me start by saying all the good things you heard about Mary Mac's Tea Room are true. This place is incredible. We were greeted right away and had the best server ever. Tried the chicken livers which weren't my favorite but that's not their fault. I'm sure if you like liver, it would be great. The collards and corn bread were delicious. My shrimp and grits were fresh and tasted perfect. So many good things to try here and the location just drips with history. Highly recommend!

Mary Mac’s Tea Room was good, not great. I chose the Shrimp and Grits. I chose poorly. I should of had the Fried Chicken. I tried one of the wings and it was juicy and delicious. Our server was delightful. There as plenty of parking in back of the restaurant. Cinnamon rolls were to die for, but be careful not to fill up on them. The banana pudding was much better than the peach cobbler. The cobbler had a weird flavor ( maybe nutmeg), that I was not fan. All in all, it was worth it to visit, but not favorite.

They have there own parking lot which a lot of places around the area do not. The hostess staff was super friendly and informative of the history of the restaurant. The atmosphere of the restaurant is amazing and has a historic vibe. The menu is decently sized and priced. The wait staff is again super friendly and helpful. The sweet tea is definitely southern and amazing. The food has great portions and was delicious along with good side dish options. Food came out fairly quick and hot. Felt like I was eating at a local home town restaurant that I’ve been to a million times and this was our first visit. We will definitely return next visit to Atlanta

Tried and true Southern comfort food that has been a staple in Atlanta for decades. Famous for fried chicken, fresh vegetables, pork chops, mac n cheese, cornbread - the list goes on. Our party of 5 really enjoyed a variety of options and we left full and extremely satisfied. Prices are reasonable and the service is great. It had been a few years since I'd been here but I was reminded as to why I should come more often.

After a dreadful experience at Old Lady Gang I was terrified to come here. But man was I impressed. This is true southern style food. The ambiance, service, food, and welcoming atmosphere was top notch. Our waiter, Allston was AMAZING. Though, by closing he kind of disappeared but that I understood, it's the end of the night. The fried catfish was amazing. The fried chicken wings were good but one of my wings was not a whole wing and actually looked deformed. I did not realize it until the kitchen was closed, I did not say anything. The sides are in small bowls but the portion sizes are somewhat bigger. The fries were very good. Collard greens had some seasoning but very little. Mac and cheese was delicious. The true winner was the bread service with cinnamon rolls. I will be back! Thank you for a great evening.

Came here for "latey" lunch, around 3pm on a Wednesday. To my surprise, the place was PACKED!!! We were seated on the furthest room and it was also very busy. The service was outstanding, the host, the waitress, everybody was exceptional and with a lovely friendly attitude. I personally LOVED the vibe and how welcoming everybody was. Food was incredible!!!! Everything was heavenly DELICIOUS, from the breads to the entrees and sides. I wish to be back, 1000% willing to make another day trip to Atlanta whenever I'm back in Georgia.

We were visiting family nearby and read so many great things about Mary Mac's and seen them featured on some popular YouTube videos. We knew we had to stop here for dinner. So glad we did! Fried chicken was so delicious and had that famous breading and crunch to it. Mouth watering barbecue ribs are a must try, as well! Staff was super friendly and we very much enjoyed our night here. Definitely stop in here!

I've eaten at this restaurant years ago and decided to bring my good friend who just moved here from Germany and her son to get some good soul food. He ordered the catfish and shrimp, and she ordered the roasted turkey, and I ordered the chicken fried chicken with pepper gravy. They both enjoyed their meals, but I have to keep it real. I was disappointed with my chicken because it was Luke warm along with the gravy and the fries. For dessert, I had the banana pudding, and the wafers were stale. I'm just happy that my guests enjoyed their meals because this was their first time dining here. Our server was awesome and brought me some Peach Cobbler, but I gave all my leftovers to the homeless guy sitting outside the restaurant. Step it up, Mary Macs! Consistency is key, and you are an iconic establishment in the ATL, so I expected quality food. I'll give it another try.

We had a great first experience at Mary Mac's! Our server Carey was so nice and welcoming, and helped explain how everything worked since we had to write down our order and got the Southern Special. We had so much food and had leftovers from all our original order, so we got to bring it home and will have it for dinner tonight, so it was like 2 meals in one. The food was all delicious and it came out quickly. We especially loved the rolls and cinnamon rolls, the whipped potatoes were great as well. So glad we got to try this famous Atlanta spot while in town for the weekend!

Very delicious place to eat. Loved the fried green tomatoes here as well as the baked broccoli. Was absolutely worth getting. I was recommended the stew by the server and was extremely savory. Would be happy to come back and eat again. Also the bartender here made the best bloody Marys.

Prepare for great southern food. Go early to avoid long wait. There is always a crowd. As you can see from photos, we tried several different entrees with sides. The food was delicious. I don’t believe any choice could be wrong depending on your tastes - perfectly seasoned. Service was excellent - very friendly and helpful with selections.

I had a really good time here. The waitress was nice and pleasant. I had, garden salad, ribs, green beans, mac and cheese. It was all delicious. The ribs was a very big portion which I liked. The only thing I didn't like was the chairs. They were very old, wobbly, and rickety. Luckily, the waitress found a good chair for me.

One of Atlanta's famous historical restaurants for many reasons, chief among them is the food is delicious. The menu has a large variety of dishes to choose from and a lot of staples. I enjoy soul food a ton so I couldn't go wrong with choosing. The dishes were all made well and presented with clean plating. The service was a bit slow for a late evening, but the waiters were friendly. The desserts were the best part of the meal as they were sweet and capped off a nice experience.

OMG! What a great experience. We were nervous about indoor dining and the experience but our server Darius made everything so comfortable. He’s efficient, super friendly and so on top of things. He was running several tables and the actual bar for the restaurant. This guy never missed a beat! I’m shocked at his talent. He cleaned everything quickly. I’ve never witnessed this type of work ethic in such a busy place. If I ever had a business, I’d totally hire Darius! 10 stars! And the food was excellent and hot! Thank you for a great lunch.

The place is full of history and it is a place everyone should visit at least once while they are in Atlanta. The staff here is very nice and very pleasant. I will be coming back over and over

I went there with high expectations, but it could not meet that. The fried chicken was above average. It was crispy, light with no grease. But not much flavours. I’ve had much better in the city. The corn bread was dry and fried okra was not as crispy as I had at other places. The mac n cheese was the best of all the items. The biggest let down was the peach cobbler. It was simply warm peach with a thick dough of flour. It’s worth trying once perhaps but I wouldn’t recommend highly. There are better places.

If you're looking to take a long, lethargic nap, this is the place to go. So stuffed after having this for lunch. Fried chicken was moist and crunchy. Chicken fried chicken was tasty. Cornbread was super delicious. Green beans, fried okra, and mashed potatoes were spot on. Honestly, you could have half a portion for lunch and save the rest for dinner.

When you walk into this place you are instantly transported through some history of Atlanta with the photos and newspapers on the walls. Really cool and different layout to the place. The food however is very traditional southern soul food done very well. We got fried chicken, dumplings, baked chicken with gravy and stuffing, sweet potato souffle, Broccoli souffle, and Mac and cheese. The food was delicious. It's the kind of good that makes you feel bad that you can't finish it. The food and the place has a charm most places are missing nowadays.

If you are in Atlanta, try this restaurant. The service is very good, the server was nice and polite, the food quality was great, and it was delicious ( but don't expect a very healthy type food) the food portions were decent. Considering the food and portion, their price were reasonable. Inside of the restaurant is another positive part of this restaurant. It's kind of historic, with plenty of photos and old style rooms and decorative features. The restaurant is big and has several rooms, with a story behind it. Parking space, there is a parking area nearby, not expensive, and you can park in an adjacent street for free, around 100 yards or so, walking away from the restaurant main entrance .

We had a great time at Mary Mac’s! I got the fried pork chop and it reminded me so much of the ones my grandmother made growing up. It was a touch cold but we had a bunch of different dishes and the AC was blowing so I totally understand. The collards were a bit bland for me but I know not everyone likes them super vinegary. The sweet potato soufflé was very tasty and had a lot of cinnamon. Loved the cornbread too! We came on Saturday at noon and only had to wait a few minutes. The parking lot was full but there is a lot of street parking.

The place was delicious. They were very good at catering to dietaries and I was so hungry and the food was so yummy. I like the paper menus where you write out your food and then the caterer comes around and confirms it all. She was so good. Great for a larger group too (12 of us).

Three types of delicious breads to start The cheeseburger is delicious, and so is the smothered chicken with white rice and gravy. Update Visit This restaurant serves my type of comfort food. There's a lot to choose from on the menu. They still have customers fill out an order form like they did back in the day. Service is fast. Servers are friendly and recommend the best dishes. And, the prices are very reasonable.

This spot was recommended to me by my local cousin who loves it. Food is very flavorful, down south-southern meals. Very ATL Food just not friendly. The hostess called our name, we jumped up but had to run behind her because she was seating us and another table- and was walking with the other table really fast. Once we caught up, we had to wait awkwardly beside her as she seated the other table and followed her to ours. She kinda just pointed at the table we’re supposed to sit at. I guess because of the (sort of) rush to sit us, she forgot to tell our waitress we were here so we waited for quite awhile. Once we let them know, and our server came- she apologized and made up for it. She gave us free pot liker (that’s what they do for newcomers) and explained the menu. You write down your order on the notepad which is pretty cute. Food: •cornbread could use some sugar, but soft. •My smothered fried chicken was perfect! Perfect crunch and flavor. Breading was really perfect crisp! My greens also were a perfect texture, cooked in what looked to be Turkey meat. •mashed potatoes are whipped so well I couldn’t believe they weren’t boxed (but they are def real potatoes) I also didn’t need any butter or gravy for them because they were made well. •Sweet tea had refills and was really really good. Very sweet 🙌 it was def giving southern sweet tea which is what I wanted. The building could be updated for a better vibe. I think they may not be willing to update this though because they have so much history here.

I was informed that they opened for the first time after eight months (COVID19) for Thanksgiving. They served over 8,000 during that short time. WOW!!!! Because of that fact, when I arrived there they were only doing takeout because of deep cleaning and preparations for opening again for Christmas. Although a little disappointed, I appreciate that they are doing what's necessary for US ALL (customers AND employees) to be safe. The food was DELICIOUS as always. And portion sizes are great. Customer service was AWESOME@

I was just at Mary Mac on October 20, 2019 at 4pm with a party of 17 and they treated us like peasants. Multiple parties were continually directed before us. Managers were very rude and not willing to work towards a compromise for the party. This was my 1st time. Did not taste the food and because the horrible customer service , waiting, and hosting experience I will not be returning ever.

Really great place that has been on our "need to visit" restaurants while in Atlanta. Loved their fried green tomatoes, the black eyed beans and rice had good flavor. On the table we had the Chicken Fried Chicken with White Pepper Gravy and Shrimp and Cheese Grits. Both were fabulous, full of flavor, and truly filing. On a scale of 1 to 10 both dishes were solid 9's. The outlier side dishes were the tomato pie and the broccoli souffle. The first tatted like chunky tomato soup topped with Ritz crackers. Glad to have tried it, will be trying something different next time. Mary Mac's is best known for their Georgia Peach Cobbler. We had it ala mode with vanilla ice cream. Peach and it's filing were full of peach flavor. The cobbler portion of the dessert was a little more wheat tasting and somewhat more soggy than normal. Overall score this at 7.5 to 8 out of 10. Loved the overall experience and look forward to a return visit!

When we were planning our trip to Atlanta for the summer, Mary Mac’s was one of the top places on our list, especially from all of the recognition it’s received. This place is the epitome of southern hospitality, and we really appreciated that they brought us complimentary pot likker for our first visit. My boyfriend ordered the four piece chicken, and I had the chicken legs. For some reason, his chicken was crispier than mine - you can even see a difference in the color of the coatings. Mine were a little soggy, so I was a bit disappointed, but his were great. The hush puppies, our sides, and the desserts were excellent. Overall, I wouldn’t rush back, but I’m happy we came for the experience!

This place has an old country hometown atmosphere which I enjoyed. The staff was very friendly. I suggest you use the online wait list. We arrived and our name was first on the at that time and we got seated immediately. Now for the food: The food was good and the portion sizes were adequate for the prices. I could have used a tad bit more seasoning on the collard greens but overall I was very pleased. 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

First of all, I loved the seating in this place and once you were seated, it felt cozy and nicely warmed dinner space during the winter ❄️. The menu had lots of interesting and delicious options including hamburgers, ribs and roasted pork. I could not get the slow cooked roasted beef 🥩as it was off the menu the time I was dinning but their alternative was delicious. The service was nice and the folks are friendly. I will have to go back for my roasted slow cooker beef another day. As a group of 4 we didn’t have reservation but time to getting seated was within 10-15 min which was great 👍🏾. FYI their liquor 🥃 license was pending so bummer to miss out on some adult drinks during my visit. Check this place out. Cheers 🍻

This was our first visit on Mother's Day. We went early because it's a popular location in Atlanta. We were able to be seated right away let me start with the Staff was super friendly and nice. As we walked to our table, the wall had pictures of famous people that have visited. The staff stood together and greeted us. I was so impressed with the decor and the staff, I was blown away. THE FOOD! 😋OMG! You would think you're in your grandmother's kitchen. The food was amazing!!!! We had various dishes (there were 7 of us). Fried chicken, smothered chicken with gravy, smoked turkey, salmon, BBQ ribs.... ALL AMAZING!!!! The sides were amazing as well. Sweet potato souffle, broccoli souffle, pot likker, corn bread, homemade cinnamon rolls, collard greens, macaroni and cheese... whew! And my Sister had to have the peach cobbler which made her eyes roll back! 😂 I would definitely say, if you haven't been there, GO!!!!! I'm sure they will have some for the southern food lover such as myself!

The environment felt like you're going out for Sunday dinner after church. The food was phenomenal. The Cinnamon rolls were soft and perfect, especially since there was no icing on them. We had the fried catfish and fried chicken and they were cooked to the perfect crunch. And the peach cobbler was our favorite dessert. Definitely brought me back to my home roots. A must try if you are visiting Atlanta.

I’ve heard about this place a few times and finally got around to trying it and I was very please! I went on a Tuesday evening and shockingly it was pretty packed, the space is huge so the wait to be seated wasn’t nearly as long as I thought it’d be. The waiter I got was pleasant but wasn’t very attentive (I want to say because he was busy and also bartending so I wasn’t bothered), the food was very tasteful which was the biggest win because most soul food spots here aren’t very flavorful in my personal opinion. My drink was strong too! The food here had great flavor and it wasn’t extremely expensive either! Would def recommend, would definitely be coming back very soon!

This is a must when in Atlanta. A true southern experience! From the extra sweet iced tea, to the family style dining, to the “too much food” everything about this place touches the soul. We did the feed me option and selected the fried chicken, meat loaf and turkey. The fried chicken is like no other I have ever had and the meatloaf was the surprise dish! We ordered was to many sides - if you are looking to try something different go for the tomatoe pie. We tried all the desserts, the bread and butter pudding was the best!

Cute place. We ordered fried green tomatoes, Mac n cheese, collard greens, meatloaf, chicken and dumplings, chicken fried chicken, peach cobbler, bread pudding and key lime pie. The sides were all good, our main dishes were excellent but the dessert…not so much. The peach cobbler a la mode wasn’t bad but the key lime pie and bread pudding were horrible! We all 3 took one bite of the key lime pie and bread pudding and threw the rest away. The bread pudding had an overpowering clove taste and the key lime pie was overwhelmingly sweet with just the tiniest hint of tart in the aftertaste. Not only were the desserts a disappointment but the corn bread was also the worst I’ve ever had. If you go to Mary Macs I would stick with the yeast rolls (which were great) and avoid the desserts. We throughly enjoyed our main dishes, they were so very good; it’s a shame the dessert quality did not even come close to matching.

Food was good! Chicken was delicious!!! Fried green tomatoes delicious!! Mac & cheese was not what I expected. Sweet potato souffle was too sweet. Overall I would come back again! I visited from out of state and I was told to visit Mary Mac's and I'm glad I did. Also I loved the cinnamon rolls. That was a different twist on the bread.

First time at Mary mac’s and first time eating southern food. We enjoyed the experience, the fried chicken was crunchy and tasty, we could tell the difference between traditional fried chicken restaurants. The sides were also very good, and the complimentary bread they gave us for being first timers was warm and delicious. I’m glad I tasted the southern food in Mary Mac’s. Prices were just right; unfortunately, we ordered one San pellegrino sparkling water that literally took them 30min to arrive to our table, we asked many times and they told us it was on the bar and it had to arrive soon, but it didn’t! It arrived many time after the plates arrived. My friend had to drink from her water bottle that she had before (which is not allowed based on the many signs 🪧 stating that all over the restaurant) because it’s really heavy food you cannot eat without something to drink.

I can only imagine the personalities that roamed the bar and dining halls of this establishment over the 80+years that it's been open. I've been meaning to come here to eat for a long time but never quite got around it so here goes... The atmosphere is what you'd expect in a "historic" establishment, if you will - they tried to preserve the look and feel if what it used to be but also not let it become something that is not. And I believe they did a great job maintaining that atmosphere. The photos, posters and memorabilia on the walls serve as a reminder of its roots. Now onto the food... One thing that disappointed us all (party of 8 including 4 kids) about the menu was that we didn't bring enough people to order everything on the menu. The server ( forgot to get his name) was outstanding in making sure we were comfortable and made sure everything was up to standards. The fried chicken is some of the best I've had and their sides are all from scratch, that is to say, they were all great. I have a lot more to say but I'm gonna stop here and look forward to our next visit!

This was an awesome dining experience! First you have to appreciate the deep historic legacy this place has. The food was delicious, a blend of southern soul and high dining in terms of service and presentation. The place wasn't too crowded, but as we were leaving, there were crowds flowing in. Just mentioning this to be prepared if you decide to come during a busy time.

When you step through their doors you’re stepping back in time. So much history comes across in every room. We were immediately greeted by our waitress who explained their unique way of ordering. I couldn’t begin to explain but pay attention, we were gazing at all the historic pictures and really didn’t get it at first. There was a large party having a birthday that kept us entertained with their fancy hats and singing waiter. We had to have the chicken and fried green tomatoes. If I’m being honest the chicken was okay but the sides were amazing. It’s a total must stop when you’re in Atlanta and I’m definitely going back next time we’re in town.

My visit to Mary Mac's Tea Room, alongside my aunt and fiancée, was a heartwarming experience prompted by my aunt's fond memories of my grandmother's visits there. This charming establishment, open since the 1940s, beautifully preserves the ambiance of that era. From the moment we walked in, the friendly service left a lasting impression. Our polite waitress explained the unique ordering process - you fill out a form with a pencil and hand it to her. It felt like a step back in time, adding to the nostalgia. As we settled into our seats, we were greeted with complimentary dinner and cinnamon rolls, setting the stage for a delightful meal. The menu at Mary Mac's offers many Southern soul food options, making it a tough choice. To sample some of everything, I opted for a Shirley Temple to drink and began with the pot likker and cornbread as an appetizer. It was so flavorful that you'd want to savor every drop from the pot. For my entrée, I chose the Boneless BBQ Chicken with a side of rice and gravy and macaroni and cheese. Each bite was a symphony of flavors, so satisfying that I couldn't help but take my time, wanting to make the experience last. To cap off this memorable meal, I indulged in a heavenly Banana Pudding. It was the perfect conclusion to an extraordinary dining experience, combining all the flavors. I wholeheartedly recommend Mary Mac's Tea Room. My visit brought to life my grandmother's frequent excursions to this charming place, and I can see why she loved it. I'm confident that when I'm back in the Atlanta area, I'll become a frequent visitor myself. It was an unforgettable culinary journey that I highly recommend to all. Don't miss out on this delightful experience!

Mary Mac's is an absolute MUST visit if you are in Atlanta. This is the epitome of Southern comfort foods with a history lesson included. I have never had such a difficult time choosing what to eat from a menu. There are so many delicious things to choose from. I ended up choosing the fried snapper with Mac n cheese and sweet potato souffle...and it was seriously amazing. My friends also enjoyed their food as well, which included the salmon, and the roasted turkey. The service here was fantastic as well, and our waitress provided us with a cliffnotes version of the history on tea rooms. Not only that, but the entire restaurant is filled with photos, news clippings, etc that recount the rich history. The atmosphere here almost takes you back into time because the building itself has been so well preserved. I wish I could give a ten out of five stars. Thank you Mary Macs for a fantastic dining experience.

Southern comfort food... very tasty and delicious This is comfort food, not gourmet Just simple and delicious. Really great service and fills your soul. Fantastic southern fried chicken and fried green tomatoes. I could help them with their roast pork, had a little too much chew, but other dishes were delish.

We came with a large group from church right when they opened and they got us seated quickly. The server was nice and knowledgeable. The food came out quickly and hot and tasted oh so good. Their desserts are non shareable because they are that good and the atmosphere was great. I will definitely be back again!!

The hype is too much. Took a friend here because I had never been and he was visiting. Read online about how famous it was. Clearly they rely on the name they built for itself cause the food was bleh. For southern cooking (which I have had a lot of), I was very unimpressed and honestly felt bad for taking my friend there.

Fantastic southern cuisine! Nothing I ordered was bad. The portions are huge so I had to bring a good portion of it home. The atmosphere was "southern dining room". Clean. Wait staff was great, and very helpful when ordering. I went there for lunch, but would only go back for dinner (comfort food makes me sleepy).

Went for my birthday. We had to wait but it was so worth it. This was my second time going and I haven't been disappointed yet. Always good, fresh food(delicious also). The chicken will have you licking your fingers for sure. I enjoyed the meatloaf and greens the most. Definitely looking forward to my next visit.

Pretty good but some of the food was kinda bland. But I would recommend especially for pork chops. I personally didn't like the fried green tomatoes but it was just my preference.

We got referred to this place by our tour guy at the World of Coca Cola saying that it was delish. He was correct! This place was very delicious. Their specialty is fried chicken. I ordered the chicken fried chicken with white gravy and it comes with 2 sides which I got the macaroni and cheese and the cream corn. My husband ordered the chopped sirloin steak with mushrooms and grilled onions. His 2 sides were the broccoli souffle and the cheese grits. I have never tried this kind of cream corn it was so fresh and delicious. The macaroni and cheese had lots of real cheese. The broccoli souffle was very very good. My chicken was so tender and very flavorful. The chopped steak was good but I would stick to the chicken. They also bring you fresh yeast bread, corn bread, and cinnamon buns all the bread you want so soft and warm. I would definitely go back.

A piece of Atlanta history, located in midtown. For large parties, they only seat you if the whole party is there, so keep that in mind. The menu has some classics on it. Each entree comes with 2 sides and all portions are fairly generous. After dinner, make sure to walk around and see the pictures of all the famous people that have dined here in the past.

When we first arrived as soon as they opened there was a line. They opened the doors and we waited 10 minutes to be seated and the restaurant was empty. Made no sense to me. The staff were all acting like it was their first time ever seating customers. They really made it seem like a difficult task when it should not have been. Aside from that, the pot liquor was GREAT! The food was good and came out quickly. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. However, I did not care for their banana or bread pudding. But overall, I would come back to dine here.

The service is good, the environment is comfortable but not luxurious. This is not why I come here. I come here for the FOOD! Everything I've had from this menu is outstanding. I've been coming here with my mothers for years and I'm going to start bringing everyone else. I say, if you're thinking of trying something new and southern food is new to you, this is the place you must go. This place whips up the best southern food around, PERIOD.

I'm giving Mary Mac's 5 stars for what it is: a great traditional southern cooking establishment in its original building with great hospitality. Servers are versed in the history of it, and are happy to share if you are a first-timer. I didn't go for years, thought it might be resting on its laurels, but the food was really good, and features lots of vegetable dishes, as it should be! This food is as good as my granny's was. Looking forward to their re-opening. Hang in there, Mary Mac's Tea Room-Atlanta needs and loves you!

The best compliment to Mary Mac’s, absolutely delicious Southern eatery. One of my three most favorite places to eat in Atlanta. Fried green tomatoes a must, creamed corn out of this galaxy and the iconic fried chicken well that’s just comfort food at its best, add some sweet tea and life just gets better. Great service, we feel like family when we come to Mary Mac’s.

We were quickly seated and service was very timely even though the place looked totally full of regulars and tourists. Service was really great, food was good Southern style food - Brunswick stew, corn bread, fried green tomatoes, fried okra, pimento cheese, fried hushpuppies, fried chicken, chicken fried chicken (it is a chicken breast and thus chicken fried - like in chicken fried pork chops, or like chicken fried filet mignon). See the pattern - anything can be fried. However there are also non-fried items on menu are other great Southern foods: black-eyed peas, collard greens, cheese grits, steamed cabbage and carrots.

The bread basket was very tasty too.

One of the top Southern restaurants in Atlanta. All food is made from scratch and from the original recipes. Fried chicken was super tender and fried to perfection. There are a variety of sides to choose from which enhance the main dish. If it is your first time ensure you notify your server for some Southern hospitality. The atmosphere is full of history and the original building is still in use. This was a fantastic experience and a must try if you are searching for Southern comfort food.

I ordered the smothered chicken w/rice, cornbread dressing w/ gravy and a Arnold Palmer..... I’m from New Orleans and we’re known to be hard food critics but mannnnnn the food was great! I have wanted to have a meal here for quite awhile due to the favorable reviews I have read over the years. My husband & I were sadly disappointed. Hubby loves Fried Chicken so if he took several bites of the 1st leg & said he hated it, there's a problem. He said the Mac & Cheese tasted awful as did the Cornbread & Collard Greens. I tasted very little of his food & totally agree. I ordered the Shrimp & Grits & it was very bland, a Baked Potato that appeared to have been laying around for a day or two; it was hard & dry. The two very small slices of Fried Green Tomato were flavorless. No beverage but it cost us $36.85. We don't mind spending good money for a good meal & this was soooo far from a good meal. The entrance was VERY crowded & social distancing was not observed. They did not try to stop the flow of people. We placed our order & was told to sit among 10 people on two benches. We were close to the cashier's cage. They said 15 minutes tops. We waited much longer & asked when our food would be ready. We were told they would call us when it was ready. Well our food had been sitting on the shelf all the time. People who walked in & ordered long after we had were called to get their food. I went to the cage again & she pulled our bags from the shelf. She handed us our cold food. We checked it & left. I hate giving this kind of review but We will not be back. Selina D., Decatur, Ga.

Let me tell you!! Before I visited Atlanta, I had Mary Mac’s Tea room saved as a want to go foodie restaurant!! I haven’t reviewed in a few months on Google maps but I had to write a review to share with foodies!! It was my first experience with this restaurant and enjoyed every second!! Yes, it was an hour's wait for a table but it was worth it! When your table is ready they will send a text message. After they send a message, the host will inform you of the type of dining room. Yes, they have different types of dining rooms and each room has a name. From there you will browse through the menu and write down your order!! Yes, they will a paper and pencil to write down your order!! I found this very unique and even my children were surprised!! We ordered ribs, fried chicken, cheeseburger and a Sunday Brownies!! I can’t even say who had the best meal!! We enjoyed our meals and left full and pleased with our food!! The fall off the bone ribs were tasty and tender with Mac and cheese and potato salad!!!! Fried chicken with yams and cabbage was succulent!! My son loved the cheeseburger!! We saved the brownie since were full!! I highly recommend Mary Mac’s tea room in Atlanta!! Save it on the wanna-go list!!

The service, ambiance, and the food is phenomenal!!! The inexpensive prices for such quality food can’t be beat. In NJ, the southern soul food restaurants can’t compete. It’s a reason this place is rated the best in Atlanta. Check ‘em’ out!!

On our visit I wanted to celebrate my hubby's birthday with some good southern comfort food. Well Mary Mac's Tea Room did not disappoint. The food and service was truly amazing!! Plus he got a dessert on the house. He had the chicken & dumplings with collard greens and Mac & cheese. I had the chicken with the white gravy , potato salad and Mac & cheese. All delicious choices. The kid menu was great and our little one had the chicken leg with two sides. He didn't care much for the sides but the chicken he loved. The sides were delicious he's just picky sometimes. We'll be back for sure!

It's been 10 years since I visited Mary Mac's Tea Room, but nothing has changed, and thanks be to God for that. The fried chicken is some of the best, if not the best, I've ever had. It's never greasy and has a perfect crust. The sides are all delightful. The hardest thing to do is pick what to have and not walk out completely stuffed. Today we had Bowtie and Jackie waiting on us and their service was genuinely hospitable and efficient. I just adore Mary Mac's and hope to return.

Phenomenal food, unbelievably great service, and prices that just can’t be beat! This place rates as one of the top 10 restaurants I’ve ever been to in my life. Its very unassuming, and the entrance gives you no idea of just how large of an operation it is. We were a group of six and waited 20 minutes to get a table. That was just low enough to have lots of discussion about what was on the menu and what we were going to order. Just about everything was top shelf, first quality, fresh and delicious. And just when I thought things couldn’t get any better the person serving us was out of this world. Friendly and professional, with lots of suggestions that really hit the target. Catfish, fried chicken, shrimp and grits were all really wonderful and amazing. The meat loaf, & turkey and dressing meals were good but nothing special. All in all it was an incredible experience and a real feast. I have not stopped talking about it since I’ve gotten back from my vacation in Atlanta. In my opinion its a must do, don’t miss destination anytime within 50 miles of Miss Mary Macs.

My sister and I dined here about a week ago and was so impressed with the food, service and warm ambiance that we returned just three days later. I've been in Atlanta for five years and this is the best place for soul food that I've come across so far. The shrimp and grits are my favorite (for now). We'll be back. P.S. Although reservations are not allowed and people were nearly out the door waiting, the wait was not long at all, and we were seated quickly. The only minor negative takeaway was although we literally wrote out our orders (which apparently is customary) we didn't get everything we asked for and there seemed to be some confusion as to who ordered what. That didn't stop us from enjoying our meals though.

Love the food there, especially cinnamon rolls and tomato pie. Also sweet potato soufflé, broccoli soufflé, pulled pork were fantastic. Love the concept of choosing the sides for your entree. Love the old school way to order food by filling the paper by yourselves. Love our waitress Liz. She certainly made our day and upgraded our experience to the next level! The price was so fair. It’s a restaurant existing since 1945 and keeps being so popular for a good reason. It represents culture of Atlanta.

The Tea Room is rather historic to Atlanta. I'm not a big fan of traditional Southern food, but if that's your thing this is your place. The fried pickles and fried okra were great! I also got a basic side salad which was fairly large. Our server was wonderful. The building is quite large and can accommodate large groups.

Mary Macs Tea room was the best! Me and my cousin tried the catfish, fried chicken, cheese grits, collard greens, cabbage, and Mac and cheese. Everything was good at a reasonable price! The server was knowledgeable of the best menu items to try. If you want southern cooking, please try this place! I will visit again Bonus: I got the Georgia peach cobbler to go 🍑😊

  • 5/5 Glen I. 7 months ago on Google
A friend of mine suggested this place and it did not disappoint. Everything about the place was cool. It's history the building, the food and the service. We all were hungry and the portions were a good size. I definitely over ordered but we wanted to try lots of food. The bread basket had corn bread, yeast rolls, that were good, but the star was the cinnamon rolls. Not like cinnabon, gooey mess, but like a delicious cinnamon toast not too sweet but delicious especially with butter. I ordered the pot roast which was good but I think next time I will get the chicken fried chicken. The cobbler was tasty but I was pretty full by then. But one of the best parts of the meal was our server. Unfortunately I forgot her name. But her southern hospitality was amazing and she helped navigate the menu.

Very nice restaurant. Came here on a Friday around 6 pm and very few people where here so we got seated right away. The server was very friendly. I liked the complimentary pot likker and history lesson! The peach cobbler was the best part.

The venue was nice. I ordered to go online and it was my first time visiting although I have heard about this place forever. Parking is conveniently located at the rear. My food was ready before pickup time. The person at the front desk was nice and advised me to check my food which I did and it was as requested. Mac n cheese was bland and the black eye peas was tasty. I’m glad the food was not salty and my fried chicken breast was good. The corn bread I didn’t care for and the bread was ok.

An absolute must go. This location is a well-preserved piece of history that feels like a warm hug. The food epitomizes southern comfort and the selection is vast. Each room has a unique feel to it and each time you visit, you will learn something new. My party and I went all in and ordered appetizers, mains, and dessert. The peach cobbler was to die for! The servings are bountiful and each time I go, there are plenty leftovers to bring home. Despite being an historical southern food location, there are a number of vegetarian options on the menu. Don’t leave without trying the mac n’ cheese!

The fried green tomatoes are exceptional and a perfect compliment to the chicken legs. I found the turnip greens (made with turkey) to be light and delicious - not too heavy as a side.

Saw this restaurant while watching an episode of Atlanta Eats. I really liked the atmosphere of this establishment. First let me say there's plenty of parking behind the restaurant. When you arrive it doesn't look big from the outside but it bigger than you think inside. There's plenty of rooms for seating and each room has its own individual name. The food was delicious and the service was great. When you get seated you'll notice pencils in the middle of the table alone with paper with different sections. You fill out each section per course to avoid errors. I like that concept, the food came out fast, hot and delicious. I would definitely recommend this restaurant, good vibes also a place to bring family and friends.

Great food and atmosphere. We had the fried porkchops and chicken fried chicken with macaroni and cheese and fried green tomatoes! Cornbread dressing with gravy was very good as well! Being from the south, I have to say they nailed it! Great restaurant for southern cuisine.

ALL the good things you’ve heard about Mary Mac’s are true. This place has amazing comfort food, awesome people and a fantastic atmosphere. Plus, free a free assortment of the most delicious breads. Great reasons to come- #seafood, tons of #vegetables, #family style is available, too, fabulous service?

Some of the best good southern cooking around Atlanta. They have been in business since 1945 ALMOST 80 years, unheard of for restaurant business. The beef pot roast was insane, fried chicken was quality too. Proper southern crispy fried chicken. Sweet potato is a must try, I think they put brown sugar or cinnamon or both but it tastes incredible. The banana pudding and cinnamon rolls to finish off! The banana pudding is class and you can get a dozen cinnamon rolls for under $5… hard to beat that. Our server Jackie was friendly and took care of us. Lots of history in here from all the pictures. Looks like a classic restaurant from an old movie inside. Not much bad stuff to say about this place, Mac and cheese was probably the worst thing I put in my mouth but was still tasty.

😠 DONT WASTE YOUR TIME!! Terrible service! The server cannot remember what you ordered…it cannot be that hard to write it down. Friends waited for (Hennessy) drinks…at the same table for an hour and 15min. It took the bartender 3 tries….It took over an hour to get food even with a reservation. YOU CAN...
