New to Atlanta and had a friend visiting from DC this weekend so we wanted to find a good spot for breakfast and this place did not disappoint. It’s a cute little eclectic spot with a great brunch menu. We did have to wait 20-30 minutes for a seat but it was well worth it. We started with fried green tomatoes which were delicious. I had the fried chicken and waffles, the portion size was perfect and both items were very tasty. The others with me had the biscuits and gravy, basic breakfast and fried chicken biscuit. The only thing I wouldn’t recommend was the pancake, it was huge and looked good but tasted a little spongy. Someone’s French toast that went by looked amazing so I will try that next time for sure.

Homegrown GA: where hospitality meets quality This bustling Atlanta suburb diner has been a staple in the community for generations it seems. From the moment you pull up, you can see what to expect. Old school restaurant, friendly staff and a small but thorough menu. Breakfast is served all day, and to be honest it’s substantial enough to carry you all day. Ask for the house special and you’ll be offered “The Comfy”. An open faced chicken biscuit with fresh sausage gravy on top. Add a side of potatoes if you like, but by no means is it necessary. Don’t be discouraged by a wait, it moves quick and won’t leave you disappointed. Enjoy some coffee, the nostalgic signs and art that fill the walls, the friendly conversation with staff and the amazing smells coming out of the kitchen. In short, this is a must go when in Atlanta.

Boy I have to tell ya. This place was nothing but a disappointment. From the 1st minute me and David stepped in the door. From the food to the people it was an embarrassment. To many minorities working the stations and serving. We will have to do something about in the next upcoming months.

Home grown is a staple in the Atlanta brunch scene. It is small and cozy, with a warm diner vibe. The food is solid and there are a lot of menu options. This is a good place to take anybody for brunch. Their signature dish is the comfy chicken biscuit. It is an open-face biscuit with chicken and sausage gravy. This is always my go-to menu item. It is definitely comfort food. The item my husband ordered was the standard two egg breakfast plate with eggs over easy, cheese grits, a biscuit, and bacon. The eggs, grits, and biscuit were great. The bacon was a little rubbery. We would have preferred it more well done. Overall, the food may not be the most amazing food, but it is solid, and it is comfort food. The staff is very friendly, and have all been there for years. They also have their own garden, and a cute thrift shop.

The food was great with large portions. Lots of things to choose from. I got the comfy chicken biscuit and it was delicious. They had breakfast all day and brunch while we were there. Also got the ruffles and onion dip which I've never seen at a restaurant. Had to get it just because. It was really good too. My son ate most of it before I could take a pic.

First time here. Friday morning parking lot was full, but there is some street parking too. Inside lots of tables were open but they were busy. Immediate service, and to order and receive food quickly. Chicken and biscuits were great, so tasty. I can only imagine how chicken and waffles tasted. Our friends fried bologna sandwich was great looking, double thick bologna slices on Texas toast served with fresh greens. Basic breakfast is really basic, so try something else that includes their biscuits. Will come back again.

Great southern breakfast. We got the cheese grits and comfy chicken biscuit. Both were very palatable. The comfy chicken biscuit had a nice flavor and the chicken was perfect. I especially liked the gravy. Very savory. Service was good. Friendly service. Prices were reasonable and you get a lot of food.

This is a interesting restaurant in Atlanta. Great reviews, unique items on the menu and excellent customer service. Parking is usually the problem when dining downtown Atlanta.

Meet our son here for breakfast on a Sunday morning around 10 a.m. Busy but not too crowded. Service was prompt. The Comfy Chicken was good. The gravy was seasoned well and the chicken was fried nice and crispy. My husband enjoyed this treat very much. My son had the Poncho Breakfast Bowl with Vegan Eggs and as a side, a pancake. He enjoyed them both. The pancake was the size of the plate!

Absolutely a must in Atlanta! We got take out that didn't disappoint. My son had the chicken & biscuit with gravy which he said was excellent. I had tge pimento cheese sandwich. Literally, hands down one of the best sandwiches I've ever had.

Stopped in for breakfast while passing through ATL. Service and atmosphere was wonderful, Morgan took care of us and she was great! Boyfriend had an omelette and I don't remember the dish I had but it was salmon cakes with pimento cheese and tomatoes and spinach. It was very good. Boyfriend loved his omelette. The art is very cool to look at as well. If we come back through town we will definitely be coming back!

I throw up thinking about how much food I end up eating there. Their food is so delicious and while you wait for your stomach to chill after you've eaten all their yummy food, you can look at all the art on the wall and even buy some. Great place to go for breakfast. No scratch that. Its a great place to go for any meal of the day. Service is usually pretty great too. They can cook up meals for 2 in such a short time when they're not busy, yet even when they are it's definitely worth the wait. (I recommend the Kevin's Breakfast)

These guys are genuinely phenomenal in their service, and I'm glad that they've done so in a high quality manner. No word can tell how pleased I am about the service, but one thing is for sure, I'm going to highly recommend it to all my mates. Thank you, everybody, for the wonderful meal! You got it all right!

Usually this place is packed. Upon my first visit, the wait was so long I had to come back another time. My first time eating at Home Grown was amazing. The wait was only like 5 minutes. The chicken biscuit was some of the best chicken I have ever tasted!! I will definitely be coming back to try the lunch menu!

This was my first time outside of Atlanta's airport area, and it seems everyone at this restaurant, whether they be an employee or a customer, was super friendly and energetic. Something I don't see much, personally. As for the food, I had ordered an omelette and coffee, and that baby was larger than I'd thought, ans tasted better too. Definitely worth every dollar.

The food here is nothing short of amazing. Servings are plentiful, food is flavorful, and the staff was hospitable as well as attentive. We were well aware that we would wait awhile to be seated so we opted for the 1st available table. No biggie. 45 minutes later we were sat outside swarmed by flies and while other waiting patrons crowded around our seating area under the canopy for shade. Still delicious and good enough to go back. Next time I won’t mind waiting a bit longer to sit inside.

Good thing we didn't leave based on the first interaction with the host (who was a complete and total jerk!), because we would have missed out on a really good breakfast. The wait for an outside table was minimal and worth the time. Our waiter was great! The food was really tasty, albeit a little pricey.

I ordered the chicken and waffles. The service was great! The chicken was seasoned okay but it was a bit dry. The waffle was very basic. No wow factor. Not the best chicken and waffles I’ve had in Atlanta.

Sat at the bar and the service was great and the waiters were super attentive! The menu has something for everyone including vegetarians and vegans. I got the vegetarian biscuits and gravy and it was fantastic! The portion is actually pretty large for how cheap it is. Definitely going to come back and try some of the other options.

I am obsessed. I stopped in Atlanta for the night while driving through and after looking online for breakfast spots this is what we decided on. I was expecting a classic diner with old guys sitting at a counter giving me weird looks for my tattoos but it ended up being an alternative style diner. There were amazing art pieces for sale, which I definitely bought, and the food was amazing. The waffle tasted like funnel cake which was different but so good. The syrup was the best I've ever had and the biscuits and gravy were top notch. I normally have to salt and pepper it but theirs had so much flavor. I hope I get a chance to go back because it was so good. The staff was also super nice.

Came looking for good sausage gravy and biscuits and they didn’t disappoint. I got the comfy chicken with a side of home fries and it’s plenty of food for that price. Chicken came out hot but my home fries weren’t. My server was great and brought me out fresh ones. There’s parking in the back of the restaurant and counter seating in addition to booths and tables. I would definitely come back for another great meal.

I am never disappointed when I stop by this hometown cooking spot. The French toast ($13) was top tier. My husband has the biscuits and gravy and turkey sausage. I love the a la crate sides for when I’m indecisive or just want a little bit of everything. Parking is tight but if you get in early or when it’s not peak time you can find a spot.

Simple, no frills, country diner in the heart of Atlanta. We received friendly and hospitable service. We ordered a variety of breakfast items, all of which were alright. While it was an overall solid experience, I don’t know that the sometimes incredibly long wait times make sense. I would come back again when convenient but likely wouldn’t wait more than 30 minutes for the experience.

The parking was a bit difficult, but free nonetheless. My friend and I arrived within an hour of close and the service was pretty spotty: I had to get up to ask for drink refills. There food was fantastic - good ole southern comfort brunch food. The pancakes are humongous! But of a creepy aesthetic but to each their own. Overall recommend.

  • 5/5 Devin B. 4 years ago on Google
Extremely delicious, I'll definitely be back... I tried the fried chicken sandwich, it was magnificent, it also came with some type of dipping sauce that reminded me of a cucumber sauce, I'm not sure, but great. Staff was friendly and helpful, although busy they were very attentive and the wait wasn't to long as well. There is something for basically any budget from what I saw at a quick glance. Chill diverse environment, check them out.

Home Grown is Atlanta's best spot for a full, traditional Southern diner breakfast. They have delicious fried foods, blue plates, and baked goods. There is usually a line to get in, especially on weekends. I recommend coming in on a weekday afternoon if you want fast service. Overall, this is an amazing restaurant!

Saw your segment on the news. Glad you re-opened. You said it yourself, if you keep your door shut, you will go out of business. Don't let 'leaders' like Kemp and KLB, who are really both just equally evil people with equally political motivation behinds each stance. Do what doesnyou and your business best. We can't support you if your doors are closed.

Hands down the best breakfast joint in Atlanta. The staff is amazing, the food is delicious and they have a lot of really cool local art and apparel for sale in the back.

  • 3/5 Derrick J. 4 years ago on Google
Disappointed. I went for the country fried steak but after a couple of bites I couldn't finish it. It was too chewy. I understand it is not a prime cut but it was way too tough. The mashed potatoes seemed to have been under a heat lamp for a while and not freshly scooped. The overall cleanliness was not impressive. BUT, the staff were amazing and very nice. The place is quaint and like a "greasy spoon" should look. Lots of character. I didn't finish my meal. It has a strong following so maybe my personal experience was an exception.

Best breakfast I’ve had in Atlanta (so far). The staff was helpful even though they were very very busy. We were sat quickly and tended to pretty fast considering how busy it was. The food was fresh and seemed like quality ingredients. It’s not cheap to eat here but it’s very reasonable for the quality and service.

A neighborhood gem with fresh food in a socially distant atmosphere. The staff here are friendly and helpful. The food is healthy and decadent, There is really something for every palate; vegetarian to omnivore. The only reason that I cannot give it 5 stars is that they are still utilizing plastic knives which are difficult for diners to efficiently enjoy their breakfast or lunch.

Appreciated that a friend of mine invited me for breakfast at Home Grown. This is a great local breakfast spot that is much bigger than it looks. It looks like it has been there for a long time so don't expect fancy seating. The parking is a little tricky but you will figure it out. They offer all breakfast options. The single pancake is huge and good. I loved the crispy edges. I will definitely return.

They served me egg beaters not real eggs and were warm. The bacon was dried out and didn't serve any fresh bacon. The grits were beyond salty I could not eat them. The chocolate chip pancakes were the only decent item I had.

(11/21/20 visit) Got the salmon patty biscuit, side of eggs with vegetables, French toast and fresh squeezed grapefruit juice. The only non- great item was the biscuit. It's not that it tasted bad but it was HEAVY. Like dense. The salmon patties were flavored great and the breading gave it the perfect crunch. The eggs were well cooked and fluffy. The French toast was amazing. Perfect amount of sweety and savory. The fresh squeezed grapefruit juice was refreshing. Tasted natural and fresh. Customer service was excellent. No complaints, at all.

My fiance and I just moved from Indiana and were looking for some great southern food. Thankfully we found it here! We had the fried green tomatoes, cheesy grits, a pimento cheese sandwich, and a friend chicken sandwich. It was all great. We sat at the bar and our waiter was so kind and relaxed. After our meal, we got to speak to one of the owners, Kevin, and he genuinely engaged with us in conversation. It really made us feel at home in the South. I'm happy to write a great review for excellent food and kind people.

Our service was great and wishing we could remember her name. The wait didn’t take long at all and it was busy! The food was absolutely delicious. We got the French toast, pancakes, and the BEST sandwich. All were so good. We will definitely recommend and be back!

Really good food. Great atmosphere. I definitely enjoy the fact they have veggie options. Today I tried the cinnamon waffle with cream cheese icing! #winning

I was in the mood for breakfast for lunch and decided to come to Home Grown. The wait wasn't that long, May be 20 mins and our waiter was very quick. The food came out quick as well. I ordered the steak hash and to my surprise it was seasoned well. I LOVE potatoes and the potatoes that came with my meal was so good. The only reason why I'm giving 4 stars is because my friends ordered scrambled eggs with their meal and it came out cold. They brought new orders out quickly but my friends think that the eggs were powered eggs. Idk because my eggs were over easy and perfect 👌🏽. There were so many other things I wanted to try so I will definitely be back.

Enjoyed a great meal that was both filling and pleasing to the eye. Colorful dishes, full of flavor and well-prepared. Parking worked out well (on-site), but space may be less available during their peak hours. Great choice!

Came here Saturday to grab a late breakfast before heading out of Atlanta and I'm glad I did. The place had a long wait but since I was by myself I was able to sit at the bar. Staff were friendly and took my order and I was surprised how quickly they got it out that's usually a bad sign but definitely not here. I got the Comfy biscuit and it was super good. Can't wait to return here!

Worth the wait. We waited outside for around 20 minutes as it drizzled. The picnic tables were shared by multiple families. The atmosphere was upbeat and friendly. Our names were announced via speaker when our table was ready. Inside is an amazing experience of Atlanta culture, that was a mix between hippie chic and yard hoarder fancy. The coffee was served piping hot so be careful! I mixed with chocolate syrup to make a mocha coffee. We enjoyed a skinny chicken plate that was served with fresh spinach which was absolutely wonderful. I favored the turkey round sausage over the chicken link sausage. My highlights are the grits and home fries which I opted to add the peppers and onions, and the pancake was big enough for the 3 of us to enjoy and tasted like heaven. Despite me not trying to eat at the same restaurant twice, this one will be revisited by me OVER and OVER again! Atlantalicious

Ok first this restaurant is a grower not a shower! From the outside it looks small af but when you go inside it's amazing! Our waiter was so sweet and funny and the owner was cool too! The food was good and service was quick. I'd definitely be back again and tell a friend! Check my social media for videos! @allhustlenofear

Love this place! Haven’t been back since I last visited Atlanta 10 years ago. It’s still amazing! The comfy biscuit with fried chicken covered in gravy is fantastic, as are the fried green tomatoes. I haven’t yet enjoyed the chicken fried sandwich this trip, but will later on the plane. Come hungry, leave satisfied and smiling!

Cute lil Dive/Dine in restaurant with all the lil home grown comforts!! Located in Reynoldstown, I was craving REAL Country Fried Steak and not the pre breaded cutlet patties! This place did not disappoint!! I got the brunch Country fried Steak, Cheese Eggs, and Cheese Grits..9 outta 10!! Customer Service was great and food was made pretty quickly. There is inside and outside seating! Give them a try!

An Atlanta classic. The fried chicken biscuit is the way to go — if you are hungry get the plate with gravy. Cheese grits were delicious. Everything was top notch. Short line on a Saturday at 10:30am.

Been waiting to come here for a while. By chance found them on Instagram. They did not disappoint. Biscuits and gravy (vegetarian & non) unbelievably tasty. We will be back again and again.

I love this place! The food and staff are amazing. I got the Lynne stack with scrambled eggs with cheese. A little wait but definitely worth it!

We came in for the Mraz concert and found this gem for brunch the next day. The service was great and the food was even better. The Cinnabon waffle is anmazing and the Comfy Chicken biscuit is perfection. I will be back!

Went with a couple of friends and all of our food was fresh, delicious and great portions! No alcohol but in this case, I didn't care. The wait was about 30 minutes on a Sunday brunch. We went at 12:30pm, sat by 1pm.

10/10! The food was amazing. I had the comfy chicken biscuit with sausage gravy. The fried pickles were yummy! I also got a side of French toast and I loved that it was not super sweet. Parking can be a challenge, at least from what I’ve experienced on the weekends.. but honestly it’s worth it! Great service, great atmosphere, and the wait times are not long at all. My waitress was Daisy and she was pretty good! Very friendly and actually recommended the comfort chicken biscuit. Daisy was very knowledgeable about menu items. The guy who brought our food out had a great personality and the lady who seated us greeted us with a smile when we first arrived. Great size portions for the price!

Home grown is always great! They have the best biscuits I have ever had in my life lol. Additionally both the fried pork chop breakfast (shown here) and the basic breakfast are great. The cheese grits are also amazing FYI. So far, it seems like you can’t really go wrong here.

First time dining here and enjoyed our experience. We arrived at 1:35pm, 25min until closing and we're seated right away. The servers are very friendly...and we were greeted multiple times. We ordered the Comfy Biscuit and Gravy which we were told is their #1 dish. The gravy was well seasoned and chicken nicely cooked. Also, ordered the chicken and waffles. The chicken cooked nicely but the waffle was extremely thin..so the chicken to waffle ratio was off in my opinion. Just because I prefer a thicker waffle I would not order this dish again but they have so much other dishes that I would try in the future. Service was quick and hardly a wait for the food to come out. We were finished eating before they closed at 2pm. The restaurant has a super cute, homey feel. The walls are decorated with cool art from local artists that are also for sale. Ample free parking available in the back lot. Would come back to try some of the other items on their menu.
