This place has a very nice ambiance to it. The staff was very welcoming and respectful of our time limit. The biscuits we started with were super light and fluffy. I got the fried chicken which was nice and moist, the mashed potatoes were creamy and delicious and the greens had great flavor as well. My husband got the pork chop, it was a little dry but the flavor was great. We tried the banana pudding trifle for dessert and the texture was super creamy and thick, we loved it. This is a really nice place to try out!

Came here with a small group of about 5 people and left very full and happy. The ambience is old southern home, right down to the nostalgic narrow wooden staircase to the second floor. We sampled most of the recommended dishes. Some favorites included the fried green tomatoes and the cornbread for appetizers; the pork chops, fried chicken, and butcher steak for entrees; and all three desserts. 🙈 For me especially the chocolate-caramel and the banana pudding. The location is pretty great too, with a lot of nightlife right around the corner.

The restaurant is absolutely delicious! Come hungry, between the complimentary cornbread and biscuits, dinner, and dessert, you’ll be very full! We enjoyed the fried green tomatoes, the goat cheese they are made with is on point. We also enjoyed the southern fried chicken and the shrimp and grits. The devils food cake dessert was good too, perfect for sharing - it was a little fluffy and not too heavy.

I love bring friends from out of town to South City Kitchen Midtown. It’s a great place for southern food. For pride, I made reservations two weeks in advance because they book up early. The service here is top notch. The best you can get in midtown. I ordered the southern classic, chicken and waffles. It does not disappoint. The chicken is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The Waffle is amazing by itself but made better with a little maple syrup and chicken. If you are in town for the first time or live here and are looking for an amazing food experience, you will not be disappointed by coming to South City Kitchen Midtown.

A modern southern cuisine type of place. The interior design is clean, simple and contemporary. The service was excellent. The food was okay. My fried chicken was a bit salty. The biscuits were light and flaky. The grits were modest and over reliant on the gravy. My friend says the pimento cheese was excellent.

The fried chicken was well cooked and the complimentary cornbread and biscuits were amazingly good! We had the liver appetizer dish, which was interesting yet tasty. Service was also great. I recommend making a reservation as it can be busy, especially on weekends, which is when we went.

Had a great dinner experience here. No reservation for a 2 top but we were sat right away (pleasant surprise!) but you may want a reservation as the place was packed. Our server was friendly and the food was great, really really flavorful. I had the fried chicken and would definitely order again. I would recommend this place in a heartbeat!

Nice Southern food. Good service and comfortable setting. A bit noisy as there are many groups dining and the acoustic is not the best. It is hard to have a conversation if you are a couple dining there. Fried green tomatoes and crabcake were my favorite dishes.

This was my first time here. Service was excellent and food was great. The Maryann & Ginger bourbon cocktail was tasty. GA Peach salad with blue cheese was a surprisingly good combo. Entrees.... Shrimp and grits - shrimp a bit overcooked but other wise very good Fried chicken livers, onions and corn - to die for Trout - delicious and just spicy enough

We were able to walk in on a Monday at 5 without a reservation and sat in the outdoor seating which wasn’t too bad. They have fans. They serve complimentary biscuits and butter before you order. The goat cheese filled green tomatoes were very delicious. The trout fillets was perfectly cooked. The service was great. I will be back to try more. I was lucky to pay to park on the street in front of the restaurant but I’m sure on much busier days it will be harder to.

I had my first meal at South City Kitchen when I first moved to Atlanta a few years back, and it has been my go-to ever since. It’s the ONE place I always bring friends who visit from out of town. The food is incredible and consistent every time. My absolute favorites are the complimentary cornbread, chicken livers, and shrimp and grits. This place holds a special spot in my heart and remains irreplaceable as time goes by.

This place was really nice. I was really looking for the southern flair and this place definitely fit what I was looking for. This is definitely a restaurant that can really get through its customers quickly cuz of the great staff in the cooking and wait staff. Despite this, the vibe is so hectic and intense, so it's a lot to take in. Despite that, the food tasted great and aside from the intensity the rest of the experience was great. My drink stayed full and they were ready if i wanted to grab another beer. The complimentary bread is amazing and nearly spoiled me for my actual meal, the King Biscuit. Which it wasn't as tasty as the initial bread but the overall plate was great and was more than enough food. Overall, great place and I'll happily go back. Can't wait till next time!

Hearing about SCM I was very excited to try the cuisine. Upon arriving at the restaurant the Hostess was VERY VERY VEEEERY RUDE! She had no business being the first contact for the customer of this fine establishment. After being seated the waitress was very pleasant. She was cheerful and accommodated all our wants and desires. I started with the She-crab soup which was very good. I followed that with the Chicken and Waffles. The dish was perfect! Chicken breast was perfectly cooked and the waffle was crispy wet moist on the inside. I give the establishment 5***** but the hostess get 0* so that explains my 3 star rating.

That’s their fried green tomatoes which are quite different. Nice but maybe could use a bit more flavor. The tomato and watermelon salad was great twist, service spot on and COVID protocol over the top. Overall a worthy stop, won’t blow you away but solid.

This was one of the best experiences that I have had going out. I was on a hot date and this was the perfect place. The food was wonderful. The service was superb. The drink 619 has become my favorite. It is Tequila based. Our server “Andy” was the best. My date and I had a 7pm reservation. It was a beautiful rainy night. We stayed there until it closed. Didn’t even want to leave this place. Very welcoming and we all need that during these times. Worth every penny. Highly recommended:

If you’re looking for a fantastic brunch with Southern flair and friendly service, then South City Kitchen Midtown is your spot. To start, they bring a basket of cornbread and biscuits. It’s the perfect start to brunch, and helps to soak up the boozy brunch cocktails. I had the Chicken and Pecan Waffles - some of the best I’ve had anywhere. The waffles were crispy and fluffy. The chicken was cooked and seasoned to perfection. My husband ordered the Jumbo Lump Crab cake, and it was pretty spectacular. It’s a very healthy serving of crab, atop grits, frisée, sunny-side up egg and roasted potatoes. I loved the chicken and waffles, but will definitely order the crab cake next time. Whatever you order, you’ll be incredibly happy. Tip: If you’re looking for a mellow brunch, make a reservation and go early. There were no lines or crowds. It was quiet enough to hear the music. We were able to get a table outside on the covered patio, with shade and fans to keep cool.

Very fast, friendly, and professional service. We ordered an appetizer and the kitchen split the dish for us perfectly. The chicken and waffle was a huge portion. The waffle was so fluffy and delicious. The chicken breast was very dry. The indoor space was also quite crowded for covid times. Although they accommodated us with outdoor seating.

Lovely restaurant for drinks and southern cooking. The peach 🍑 salad was delicious and peaches where in season which made it perfect. The pork hop was cooked well and presentation was on point. Overall lovely place with friendly and attentive staff. Drink selection was also very good. The old fashioned was well made and had their own twist which was a nice touch. Dessert Peach Pie with Ice-cream was also delicious. Can’t wait to be back to visit. Tips: Reservation is recommended. We did go on a Wednesday early evening but as time passed we did see a few folks having to wait a little.

The food was great! I really enjoyed my salad, and the fried chicken was very good. I underwhelmed with desert- it was good but I wouldn’t order it again. Parking in that lot across the street is $20, so try to find somewhere else to park and walk!

This restaurant was recommended by Pack Up and Go. You might have soul food before, but South City Kitchen takes it up a notch. My wife and I enjoyed our anniversary dinner here. The food is excellent. I've never eaten spaghetti squash at a restaurant, but their spicy spaghetti squash was on point. The smokey grilled pork chop was perfectly cooked. My wife had their amazing fried chicken. I told my relatives in ATLANTA to try it. I highly recommend South City. You won't be disappointed.

Parking across the street was convenient but expensive. $20 for 2-3hrs. Restaurant was very swanky with a cool atmosphere. Our party of eight were sat upstairs. Our server was awesome. I can’t remember his name but he had a Sailor Moon pen. The food was excellent. I had the shrimp and cheese grits and it was heavenly. Not overly seasoned and just the right amount of kick. The biscuits and butter were soft, warm, and complemented one another well. Hubby got the biscuit and gravy and added fried chicken breast to it - it was so yummy. Everyone in our party enjoyed their food. Would definitely recommend.

I recently visited South City Kitchen in Midtown Atlanta and had the pleasure of trying their pimento cheeseburger. Let me just say, it was amazing! The burger was cooked to perfection, juicy and flavorful, and the pimento cheese added a delicious tangy kick to each bite. The fries were crispy and seasoned perfectly as well. The restaurant itself had a cozy, welcoming atmosphere and the service was excellent. Overall, I highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for a delicious meal in Midtown Atlanta.

Delicious!! Every thing we ate was superb. The food is so fresh and seasoned perfectly. The waitress was also just so personable and friendly that it added to the positive experience. **As a side note: they are in the top 5 in the nation for their fried chicken!** It’s a little pricey, but the quality of the food is exceptional. I am looking forward to going back and trying new items.

The service was first class. The food definitely had a little twist to it compared to traditional southern food, but it was nothing but delicious! I absolutely love the layout of the restaurant. My wife and I I are definitely people watchers , and the second floor definitely gives you an awesome vantage point. The prices are very reasonable considering its smacknin the middle of the city. I definitely recommend this spot for brunch!

The food was so good I could cry! I went with the trout which had so much flavor, and paired with the pesto it was 10/10. I cleaned my plate, which almost never happens. The biscuit and cornbread was so so good too. Everything was perfect. Aquila was a fantastic server who helped me pick the trout, and I'm so thankful!! Can't wait to come back and try everything else.

Well deserved praise for this place, it’s truly a gem! Everything from the food to the service to the ambience is top notch. I had the shrimp and grits — not something that I would usually order but it was highly recommended. Let me tell you what… that stuff is INSANE! Incredibly flavorful tomato gravy over tender shrimp and fluffy grits, it blew my mind! The fried chicken was of course excellent, as was the she-crab soup (best I’ve had) and the pimiento cheese spread.

Well located in Mid-Town. Great, and obviously popular, business meeting location. The service was fast, friendly, and attentive. The food was great. Excellent pimento cheese and fried green tomato’s. The shrimp and grits was phenomenal! Definitely a recommended place to visit. Full menu and bar.

NOT socially distanced. We made a reservation for 6 outside on Open Table, and came to find out they only have seats up for 4 outside. They tried to sit us inside at a 6-top, and their inside seating is NOT socially distanced.

It has been a few years since my last time dining at South City Kitchen, but this is a place that has not let itself slip in standards. The food is still outstanding and the service is attentive. Our table of 7 tried a variety of dishes and everyone loved their choices. The cauliflower appetizer was a standout for me. Our server was knowledgeable about all of the food options as well as the wine pairings. Water glasses were refilled without having to be asked. Definitely worth it!

I enjoyed this restaurant. Made a reservation here and the staff was friendly and helpful. The food was well seasoned and their signature fried chicken was tasty. Also tried the pork chop and a couple of appetizers which were all prepared well and delicious. Great spot for a nice dinner in midtown Atlanta. Enjoy!

Food and place is a National treasure. Our server Trinity was fantastic and actually let me try the fried green tomatoes which I had never had before. It was divine. Fried chicken and mashed potatoes plus the pan seared scallops left me speechless. Dinner for 2 check left me wondering if the computers math was accurate. So affordable given their location and quality food. I personally thanked the Chef. Going back soon I’ll have to try the entire menu eventually. Thanks Trinity!!!

Our first trip out since the lockdown. Only ventured out because it's our wedding anniversary Food was delicious, staff was amazing. Every other table was closed off and the manager literally scrubbed everything down after guests left their tables.

From out of town, stopped on a whim mostly because we were hungry and couldn't walk any farther without eating. Fairly expensive but good food. Fried green tomatoes were awesome and the peach salad flavorful and generous with the peaches. Negative was a $9 50 fee to help pay their workers (Covid related). Should have been told that up front.

We frequent the location in Buckhead and love it. We stopped in late one evening on the way home from the airport. The service was very good but the food was not what we expected. Just a little overcooked but compared to other restaurants still above average. Wonderful service, the brunch was delicious. We ordered the she crab soup and XL biscuit sandwich and they were both good. My only complaint is I needed more crab in my soup. We will definitely go back.

Please read: Food is truly ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Experience is ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1)”Due to COVID,” patrons are being charged an automatic 20% ”service fee.” Funding received goes towards operations and salary staffing, all of which is explained when you arrive but after you sit down. 2) The restaurant is cashless; but they will accept your tips in cash (which is silly) and if you pay with a debit/credit card, the server will not receive your tip. It was suggested that we use cash app to leave a tip. Very weird, right? While I empathize with the owner and staff, I don’t want to feel “nickeled and dined.” If you want to increase your cost to cover overhead expenses, simply raise the menu prices. However, I don’t want to see my bill with a charge for X in bold, and a charge for that... I understand it’s temporary but very awkward to experience. Lastly, either you accept cash or you do not. Period. I am not comfortable with cash app’ing any and everybody. And as a former server, you ought to be ashamed of yourself for keeping these folks money! I don’t care how you record it, but you need to pay them their money within their checks! It is exceptionally tacky to attend such a high caliber restaurant and be told this after you eat your meal, “I may or may not receive compensation for serving you since you used a debit/credit card”. [paraphrase]

Thank God for Moe's, first of all, for changing my opinion about burrito assembly line restaurants (looking at you, Chipotle!) As soon as we walked in the entire staff yelled, "Welcome to Moe's!" as if they were as excited about making our burritos as we were about eating them. Moe's has set the standard for me that Chipotle never met. I love that they give you the option of ordering a large regular sized burrito or a smaller version of the same thing. Everything that you could possibly want to put in your burrito tasted much better to me than what is offered at Chipotle, from the beans to the chicken.

Very average... Everything was 'good', nothing was great but nothing was bad either.. Upstairs vibe feels a little like a time-out corner. Did not appreciate the additional 20% automatic gratuity charge (although we were informed at the door before sitting down), or the way the waitress politely and indirectly told it that this 20% is not a tip for her i.e we were also expected to leave a tip. Service was quick and friendly. All in all; there is better food in Atlanta that is much better value. Would not visit again.

She crab soup was tasty, bisque-like as the waiter said, so just a little crab. The crab cake was excellent! Thick, LOTS of crab, not a lot of filler. Mac and cheese side was sooo creamy. And the complimentary little biscuits melt in your mouth.

Tried this for the first time Wednesday evening. Fantastic. Best fried green tomatoes I’ve ever had. The liver app was spot on. But the main course, fried chicken was perfect. We finished with the Peach upside down cake, sensational. The service by Jenifer, as well as the rest, was attentive and appreciated. They made you feel like they wanted you there. Jenifer made subtle suggestions and they were all amazing. One of the best meal experiences I’ve had visiting Atlanta. So good in fact, we just made our reservation for brunch this Saturday. This was one of the best experiences that I have had going out. I was on a hot date and this was the perfect place. The food was wonderful. The service was superb. I ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes which were served with goat cheese and a slightly spicy red sauce as opposed to the typical cream sauce. I have to say that I prefer a cream sauce. For dinner, I ordered the fried chicken which came highly recommended as a house specialty. The chicken was resally good. A solid choice if you're in the area!

service was good but the Food isn't as good as it use to be. No seasoning on the Mac and cheese and the brussel sprout side was really mussy.

Loved the mashed potatoes and collards. The chicken was cooked too hard for my preference but very nice service.

On my family vacation, we decided to end it at sun city kitchen. This was a phenomenal decision, as the food and manager (Mike) were outstanding. The single best fried chicken I’ve ever had, and a stellar service and kind hospitality from mike. Thank you for placing the cherry on top of our time here in Georgia. Highly recommend.

The food here is really amazing. I had the porkchop with butternut squash and brussel sprouts. Not only was the medium well porkchop delicious but the pairing of the butternut and brussel sprouts really sealed the deal on the flavor. Our waitress Dorian was also really nice. She brought us the cute little scoop of banana pudding which was really good. Instead of using cookies for the banan pudding, they used like a graham cracker crumbling which tasted amazing. I will definitely e back 😁 @fitfabdiningofatlanta

Definitely Try The Brunch! Yes, It Is Very Popular So Be Prepared To Possibly Wait. The Portion Sizes, The Atmosphere Makes This "Off The Beaten Path" Location Worth The Drive. Try The Salmon And Those Collards (Just Like Grandma's). Mmmmm!

The food was amazing!, the best biscuits I've ever had and the breading on the fried chicken was mind blowing! I was told at the door that the 20% gratuity was automatically taken out to cover the waitress tip, but was told otherwise by our server so I'm not sure about that part but you will not be disappointed by the taste or quality of the food 👌

Went to South City Kitchen for Thanksgiving. IT HAS LOST IT'S LUSTRE! Hate the entrance where you are rushed upstairs to the worst, noisy environment possible. The waiter was terrible as he discussed his like for brown whiskey! Appetizer of Chicken Livers were BURNED and could not eat them! Turkey plate was bland and messy! Nothing was even close to the cost of $200.00 for two diners! Did not even bother with dessert as we saw it on the table close to us. Was there a short time and a totally unpleasant Thanksgiving. Will not go there again after going for the previous 5 years! Worst seating ever. Food poor. Service was the worst! South City Kitchen ruined our Thanksgiving Dinner!!!

South City Kitchen was absolutely amazing! They never disappoint. Social distancing in full effect! The amount of cleanliness that was displayed was by far the beat I e seen since re-entering the social scene. The food was amazing! If you're looking for a piece of normality where you can let your guard down to enjoy a great meal I'd definitely recommend!

We made a 12:30 reservation on a Saturday and got right in. The server was super helpful with drink suggestions because we were picky. Everyone there was friendly and kept checking to make sure we were doing good. The drinks took a little too long to come out, but the food was fast. The chicken & waffle was delicious although little pricey (but that's expected of ATL) We would go back. My friend loved her grits so much she wanted some to go.

Best fried chicken 🍗in Atlanta. Great service. My daughter's birthday is this Friday and they brought out a dessert. Make sure to reserve in advance or you're in for a long wait. There's plenty of parking.

Truly the best waffle I have ever had. All the food was fantastic as was the coffee. The service was great. I highly recommend. Nice outdoor space (patio) and two stories inside. A few blocks from Piedmont Park in Midtown.

Their fried chicken and mash potatoes were very delicious. I chose brussels sprouts instead of greens. It was my birthday and I got a dessert on the house. Staff was very friendly and good. A place I highly recommend.

Stopped in for a nice southern dinner based on suggestions from friends and my oh my am I glad they suggested this place! The service was impeccable! Fast, friendly service with knowledgeable staff behind the bar. The food was outstanding! I always watch the pace of staff when dining out and watching how well put together these guys are makes me so happy! You don't see that very often these days.

This place really surprised us! Food was perfect! The biscuits changed my life, I have never had biscuits like that. Fried tomatoes great also. We also had the crab cake and the fried chicken (the pictures are of half the actual dish as the kitchen kindly split it for us). Our server (Sydney I believe?) was lovely, the perfect levels of attentive without being overbearing.

Deep fried chicken must try and even the side mashed potatoes and greens were awesome! I love tomato 🍅 and so maybe I'm biased...Fried Green Tomatoes also another must try, so juicy and perfect balance with the goat cheese. Chicken Livers was just ok nothing special. Overall everything was superb ☺️

I have the Fried chicken, collard greens, and mashed red bliss potatoes. And I will say that the chicken is fried to perfection. And the potatoes were so creamy and delicious. I actually love how they had the collard greens seasoned. I had the upside down peach cake for dessert which turned out to be different but DELICIOUS. Overall this is a GREAT place to dine. Definitely will go back the next time I am in Atlanta GA.

An excellent experience in a convenient location, I expected a good dinner but I did not expect the elevated service and delicious and approachable food. Because I was dining alone, you never know what to expect... The gentleman who seated me and my server went above and beyond to make me feel welcome and even entertained some small talk, although it was the middle of dinner service... Started with a cocktail which was nice and refreshing, even in proper glassware with a garnish! I tried the fried green tomatoes on the recommendation of the server, they were the best I've had! No wonder they've been on the menu for so long!! If you don't need a full order just add one slice to your dinner or appetizer. I had the beet appetizer and it was also different and delicious. A nice vinegar flavor, very balanced. It paired perfectly with the crispy and cheesy tomato. My mahi entree was equally as delicious, the fish was cooked perfectly and the wine suggestion was affordable and also matched well. Of course I was too full for a dessert, but I have full confidence it would have been worth it!

Very nice atmosphere. Didn't have to wait to be seated. Did outdoor dining. The strawberry salad was amazingly good, along with the soup that has crab. The fried chicken with mashed potatoes and collard greens was done to perfection. When I return, I will definitely be going back to get the salad and soup.

South City Kitchen serves a fantastic brunch! We were able to be seated right away at 10 am opening time, but it did get busy very quickly! As out of town visitors we appreciated our server’s introduction to the restaurant and his personal favorite dishes. Our meal was started with complimentary cornbread and biscuits which were incredible. We enjoyed each dish and had a hard time picking a “favorite”. The king biscuit, chicken and waffles, pulled pork sandwich, and she crab soup are all great. Our friends ate here for dinner and also really enjoyed their meals as well. We would come back if visiting Atlanta again.

Well this is definitely a must try when in Atlanta. South City Kitchen has a menu that is focused on southern cooking but has creative ways of preparing them offer all guests something they will say " Wow, this is amazing". We tried bunch small plates like fried green tomatoes, chicken livers, pimento dip, peach salad and for mains had the best fried chicken and collard greens I can ever remember having. The drinks were a very nice addition and especially loved the one that tasted like a boozy chocolate milk!!! Trust me you get out and enjoy and support local restaurants like this!!!

Was in town on business and chose to eat here. It’s a house converted into a restaurant. They did it well and has a lot of windows to keep an open feel. The food was really good. I ordered the pork chop and honestly it was the best one I’ve ever eaten. Perfectly cooked, grilled flavor was perfect and the peaches on top made it great. My wife got the New York strip steak. It was cooked perfectly and was great as well. We got the cheese cake and a chocolate item I don’t remember the name of. It was good but the cheese cake was amazing. Resembled cheese cake meets peach cobbler. So, great food. Had a good time. We’ll be back next time we are in town.

Great place for my birthday dinner! Fried chicken was very flavorful and tender. Collards and mashed potatoes were also top tier. Free biscuits and cornbread were impeccable. Cornbread had a nice balance of sweet and savory; biscuits will literally melt in your mouth. Some more sweetness would've brought them to the next level though, so maybe request some honey to go with them. Banana Pudding was a nice surprise. Very tasty, but when is banana pudding ever not good? Service was quick and the environmental was very pleasant and homey. Check it out if you're in the area!

If you're looking for a taste of the South with great service and quality food, it's hard to go past South City Kitchen! I highly recommend the Duck, which fell off the bone perfectly.. The venue features a boutique wine list, interesting cocktails and delicious iced tea.. it's an all round winner!

Good dinner. Great service! Our server Andrew made this an all around enjoyable experience from start to finish. Seated and served immediately, the appetizers were the Nola BBQ shrimp and the Fried green tomatoes. The fried green tomatoes were the star of the meal by far. We're already planning our next trip back just to have them again. The shrimp and grits were complimented, as well as the springer hill chicken plate. The drinks were a little light but still a great dinner. Pro tips: This place is busy and fills up quickly for dinner and I've heard that the lunch/brunch crowds are even crazier so make your reservations on the website or thru the OpenTable app. Arrive a little ahead of time as midtown's traffic and parking situation are a little sketchy at times. There's very little street parking and all of the parking lots within walking distance were $20 on weeknights. ENJOY

First time eating here. We went for brunch, and everything was amazing. The drinks were spot on, the coffee was great, and the food was amazing. We had the She Crab Soup, the Briscket Benedict, and the Crab Rice. Would recommend all of them. The couple we were with had the King Biscuit and Shrimp & Crab Roll. Our tastes of those we great also. Highly recommend you try South City Kitchen.

This restaurant was great. The home turned food spot was so neat. We sat near the fireplace. The table ordered fried green tomatoes and the spoonbread. I had the she-crab soup and the shrimp/grits. Delicious food. Our waiter was wonderful - very personable. We were a group of 9 from all over the USA and he got to know something about each one of us. It was a very pleasant experience.

Good tasting food, the staff were very welcoming and offered great menu suggestion’s. Had the Crab soup, and Springer Mountain fried chicken. Everything was delicious. Let’s not forget about the chocolate cake, and banana pudding.

All I can say is Wow! My waitress highly recommended that I go with their chicken plate for lunch and although I'm not a fan of chicken breast due to it usually being less juicy and favorable than the dark meat I prefer, this was by far the best chicken breast I've ever had! If you're ever here, try it as you won't be disappointed either!

I’m going to try to keep this review short and sweet. Nestled in the heart of midtown, South City Kitchen was a welcome surprise that provided an upscale twist to traditional southern comfort food. Our waiter was attentive, friendly and provided impeccable service. He was ready and willing to explain all food options which made menu selection painless. The restaurant provided a very close nit feel that made it easy to socialize with others. Since this was brunch with the girls, Mimosas and Peach Bellinis were first up on the ordering list. I mean we are in Georgia, right?! 😉 The food! Our meal started with sweet biscuits and cornbread muffins with freshly made apple preserves and butter. Amazing! Next we selected Fried Green Tomatoes made with goat cheese and red pepper coulis. I must admit, I was a little skeptical at first, however the balance between the creamy goat cheese and the tartness of the tomato was beyond words. By far I would say it lived up to its hype and was a favorite of the table. We also tried the Brussels with crispy bacon which was also a hit. Two of us ordered the Springer Mountain Farms Fried Chicken which was paired with fresh collard greens, mashed red potatoes in a honey thyme jus. The chicken can only be described as crispy, succulent and fried to perfection. We were told that the chicken is soaked in buttermilk for three days prior to cooking which makes the chicken moist and tender. As a pescatarian, I’m generally not big on chicken BUT if you are going to cheat, it’s a meal worth the cheat😂👏🏼👏🏼. The Carolina Trout was a great option paired with pears, turnips, Swiss chard and pear vinaigrette. Perfect choice. What is not on the menu is that under the fish were small grilled mushrooms that were tender, sweet and the perfect complement to this dish. And last but not least, a traditional southern favorite, Shrimp and Hen Mill Grits paired with Tasso ham and a smoked tomato poblano gravy. You can never go wrong with shrimp and grits…..enough said. Whether you come for brunch with friends or consider this a date night option, you will not be disappointed. Midtown is one of my favorite areas in Atlanta and South City Kitchen is now one of my new loves. Definitely a must visit!! I guess I forgot about short and sweet, 😝. Bye for now!
