Classic southern diner that has been around forever. Great dining experience the servers are career servers who have been there for a long time for the most part. If you're from out of town and one is Southern dining experience this is certainly on your short list. This diner has been in so many movies over the years. It is truly a special place.

I recently went for the first time to the Silver Skillet and I was pleasantly surprised. I love an old school diner and the silver skillet is just that. We had a group of 5 and we only had to wait about 10 mins on a Sunday at 1230PM. I ordered the super skillet with hash browns ($12.95). I didn’t want grits or gravy. The food was delicious and warm. I would definitely be back to try something else. My partner order the catfish and grits and I tried a piece of the fish and it was seasoned well and crunchy. I highly recommend the silver skillet when you want some good comfort food.

ICONIC BUT DISAPPOINTING You walk into the Silver Skillet and it’s like stepping back in time 50 years to the dinners of the 60’s and 70’s. The décor is amazing, with walls filled with symbols of the day, including a side-by-side picture of the restaurant with the Atlanta skyline today and back then. And the service on a Saturday morning was delightful. Of course, there was a wait as we sat on the shaded bench outside the restaurant, but the greeter was cheerful and efficient and the wait staff upbeat and friendly. We so wanted to love this place! Unfortunately, our meals were well below expectation. Our meal included two Super Skillets (onion, ham, green peppers, cheese, tomato) – one with mushrooms added – along with waffles, pancakes, grits and a side of bacon. The pancakes were indeed delicious, and the bacon was crispy as requested. But the grits were just okay, the waffles were tasteless, and the omelets were stuff with a ground ham that made the dish unenjoyable. We walked away surprised at how disappointed we were with the meal. As an aside, if you are a clean freak, the Silver Skillet is probably not the best place for you. The walls were dingy, the fabric on the booths needed a real scrubbing, the silver was far from sparkly…just an overall feeling of “not fully clean.”

First the good. The service was super friendly and really took care of you. The ambiance of the location really made you feel comfortable. The food was amazing. Had the roast beef with collard greens and potatoes. It was some of the best that I have had. Now the bad. The price was way more than what you would expect to pay. A meat and two vegetables with a sweet tea cost me $18. I was glad I went to say that I've been there but I probably will not go back for that price.

This is the place to eat breakfast! Open since 1956 and still very original feeling! The whole family loved the food! I recommend the omelet and cheese grits! Classic southern breakfast taste to perfection! Lots of really neat history about it inside. We loved it so much that we bought some tee shirts before we left! We will be back again one day for sure!!!

We really enjoyed our visit here. This place is a historic place and was in a lot of movies. We drove past this place over 7 times when visiting. But we never stopped till now. There is a wait sometimes so be prepared. The space inside is small. They have old fashioned booths and a counter area to sit. The staff are very friendly and helpful. When we visited it was a cozy and pleasant visit. Prices were good also. They have pics of celebrities that have visited and also they filmed Dinner Drive -ins and Dives here. Guy Fieri will be filming her again next week. We liked this place and will return again. So make this a stop when you visit Atlanta .

This was a great little restaurant. I heard it had a lot of history surrounding it, and I can see why. It was very vintage, and had amazing food. Our waitress was very speedy and we got our food fast. I had the meatloaf with gravy, beans, and cabbage. The food tasted fresh and the cornbread was great too. I would highly recommend going for both the food and experience.

DDD sent us here and this place exceeded all expectations! Biscuits are so good we ate them plain. The country ham, grits, and chicken & waffles were all done to perfection. Definitely would recommend the lemon icebox and coconut pies. Overall, well worth the detour on a roadtrip.

Went in with high expectations after recommendation from friend who hadn't gone and wanted to know about my experience. Saw all the notable stars who have come to eat there. The service was friendly and welcoming. The food was average at best. I had the chicken biscuit and hash browns with cheese and onions. They made them quick and as ordered. When I saw the food, I thought the portion was a little small but not a deal breaker if it tasted really good. It didn't. Not sure what I hoped for but instead went across town to another more familiar breakfast joint and ate what I expected was a good southern breakfast.

Definitely the place to go for breakfast or lunch. The food is just perfect and the people are way too good. We ordered the fried pork chops with collard greens and mash potatoes along with fried chicken. Guy fery thanks for the recommendation.

The restaurant is very nostalgic and still has the vibes of a 1950s/60s diner. The customer service was great! I was immediately greeted when I walked in and my waitress was fantastic! The downside of my experience was the food. I ordered the catfish which was kind of salty. Also, there were gnats flying around and one landed in my french toast which my waitress removed from my tab. Overall, it was pretty good but the gnats ruined it for me. I do recommend trying the food at least once.

Love it here! We tried the red eye gravy with biscuits and sausage (DELICIOUS 😋)for an appetizer because mom and I were very hungry and it was a packed house so we thought it would take a while but actually our food came out fast, hot and delicious! The coffee was ahhh-mazing! We got a to-go cup to bring with us. It's been a while since we visited but I definitely will be returning! We had an awesome experience.

Great little diner my husband and I stopped at on our trip to Atlanta! We got breakfast here. I got the French toast and he got the super skillet omelette. Both were super yummy. The biscuits were great too! We were honestly just looking for a nice quick breakfast place and didn't know the history of the restaurant! It was nice to see it written on the back of the menu with the list of the movies and tv shows the diner has been featured in.

Dining here made me feel as though I'm in some kind of a movie. Terrific food, amazing vibe! Also, I can't resist but think of Silver Skillet as a South American Darshini. :p (Breakfast places in Bangalore serving South Indian delicacies are known as "darshinis")

I went there because it was on Diners Drive-Ins and dives. I was not disappointed. I had the two pork chop breakfast. Everything was spot on. The staff was very friendly, the prices were reasonable, there was no wait time getting seated. Couldn't have asked for a better experience!

So so good! We had breakfast here and would recommend to anyone. The chicken is a must for an add-on to go with your biscuits and gravy. Save room for the lemon ice box pie at the end. Heavenly!!

Old school diner. Little dated and worn but still cozy. The food was excellent. Home style cooking, big portions, and good prices. Employees are friendly. Food came out fast. Will definitely be coming back. They are doing full dine in right now. If you're prior military like me, this place smells like a chow hall and it gave me nostalgia. Love it. #supportsmallbusiness

While visiting Atlanta I came across this restaurant. Upon passing it on my arrival in town, I noticed it had a line, so I took a mental note to double back, and I’m glad I did. The food was great! I ordered the veggie omelette, cheese grits with raisin bread as toast, and a slice of their ice box lemon pie, which is home made and rumored to be favorite, and I see why, cause it was good and didn’t disappoint. My service was great as well, staff was very friendly, inviting, and made you feel right at home, even got a little history lesson on the restaurant as you can tell from the decor and atmosphere that it’s family run and operated. My overall experience was great, and whenever I’m in town I’ll definitely be back. Thanks Silver Skillet!

Absolutely love this place!!! The Red-Eye gravy is as good as it gets! It reminds me of eating at my home and grandma’s when I was growing up in Mississippi. Just good food with no fancy names or tricks. Y’all call it ‘comfort food’ but, my family calls it home cooking.

So far the best breakfast that I had in Atlanta. Genuine welcoming from the staff, good food from the kitchen and I guess she is the founder of the place that beautiful lady with warm smile. It’s all American diner menu, go for all!

They were packed with ProgPower happening in the area. They handled the rush of people around lunch time beautifully. Great southern food, and a nice diner atmosphere. Our server was amazing with how busy she was.

This place makes you feel like home! Good food for good prices and classic diner vibes. Make sure to come early on Saturdays if you want a table quickly! They get people in and out pretty quickly though and it’s worth the wait. Definitely great hangover food too! We got the biscuits and gravy with sausage patty’s on the side - highly recommend

Friendly service everytime. I love that they actually serve assorted cereals too. Reasonable prices, great omelettes. I’ve had the oatmeal, hash, grits, a few sandwiches. Everything is tasty. The omelette are just a favorite. Very popular spot with long history. I also love the old articles on the wall.

So I found this place after searching for a diner while I had time due to a layover at ATL, and what a find it was. This is a great diner and it was packed because it was a sunny Sunday. There was a line but the hostess saw that I was a single and said "C'mon". Definitely get the cheesy grits and I'm not normally a biscuit guy but after ordering toast I regretted it because they looked awesome. As I was sitting at the counte, my server, Lisa, heard me and said "I'll hook you up with one". So glad she did, yummy! I got the country ham with redeye gravy which were good but a bit too salty for my liking. Next time I go, it will be for the chicken and waffles. Can't wait for my next layover...

Old school restaurant that takes you back in time. The food was average and prepared well. The wait staff was very friendly. Only suggestion is a good and detailed cleaning of the dining area.

It's a greasy spoon, and I loved it. Fun to look at the pictures and read about the who's who that have visited this establishment. In its own right, the food was excellent. Our server was also very upbeat and fun. My apologies that I failed to remember her name. I would definitely return and would also highly recommend that you try this place out if nearby.

Old school diner with a refreshing old school level of service and atmosphere. The food is really nothing all that special, but just being at this place makes it feel more special. If you go, allow plenty of time to enjoy it all. Since it is a favorite location for the movie/ TV industry for filming, check their website before making plans to visit as they can be closed at odd times to accommodate filming.

First time visiting this spot in Atlanta. Came here for brunch, on my birthday. Last visited: July 2023. Parking is sufficient, and it’s available outside the restaurant. Our table ordered: - Chicken and Waffles - Pancakes w/ Hash Brown Fries (?) - Orange Juice The service was prompt and no issues with it. I got a note and paid the tab at the front counter, while leaving. The indoors seating and atmosphere was just so-so, nothing special. Other than, apparently there are photos of famous people who’ve visited, as celebrities and actors such as Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson — and some other folks, whose name I’m drawing a blank on now — have visited. Food was great, nothing extraordinary. Chicken was nice and went well with the waffle. There was a lot of maple syrup and butter packets provided, but we didn’t use a lot of them. I only used one syrup packet, and all butters — if memory serves correct — and then left the rest. We actually stacked about seven or so of the unopened maple syrup packets, one atop another. So, yeah. All said, food was decent here and was filling at the least. But it was nothing exceptional. Hopefully I might revisit here if I get another chance, one day. After all, it looks like someone famous people have frequented this spot at least once, so it might be worth another try.

An awesome old school restaurant with tons of historical significance (mainly in filmography) and top notch food to boot. A must when looking for places to eat in Atlanta!

My second time and both were excellent. Got the veggie omelette with sourdough toast and gravy. Gravy is not salty and not peppery, so you can definitely season it yourself to taste. Recommend!

Old time diner with amazing staff. If you've been more than once, they know you by name! I haven't had anything on the menu that wasn't delicious. Friends and I plan to go as often as possible.

Go for the atmosphere, not the food. Decent service and biscuits. Heavy sodium all around. Ice box lemon pie fine but way too sweet. Pass on the collard greens.

  • 5/5 Daniel J. A. 2 years ago on Google
In the shadows of downtown Atlanta, the food will not disappoint. Furniture is well worn and there is a old diner atmosphere to the place. It is awesome! No white white linens, just good food.

Sooooo good! I think I over did it a little..but had to try different things. Food was outstanding! The biscuits were probably some of the best I've ever had. The ham was SALTY but not TOO SALTY and the red-eye gravy..probably could drink it straight 🤣
