***Friendly Disclaimer: CASH ONLY*** (they have an ATM though) My friends and I had Saturday brunch here. We parked on the street but there is parking availability next to the restaurant. We were seated right away and treated with care. Our food was awesome! Shrimp and grits was mildly spicy and extremely flavorful. No shell or tail on my shrimp. 🙌🏾Major bonus points! My guests loved the blueberry preserves and the fry on their fish. Thumbs up diner gets a thumbs up and a return visit from me!

I'm so glad I finally made my way back to this place. It'd been years. You often see a line down the block but we had no wait on a weekend morning. A personal pet peeve is the QR code menu. Who wants to get interrupted by notifications when you're trying to order food? But we managed and the food was very good. Lots of options. Great neighborhood diner!

Thumbs Up Diner is a down home, neighborhood diner serving up classic fare with southern flair. The service is warm and friendly. The Skillet Heap with chopped veggie sausage was delicious and filling. Added bonus, they have sourdough toast. They are cash only, so bring bills or you can use the ATM they have in the back. This was my first time at Thumbs Up, but it will definitely be a haunt of mine.

Wow. Can’t say enough good things about this food. Disguised as a diner, but with some real southern soul and comfort here. The food is incredible and the service awesome. I can see why it’s usually packed! Fried catfish is fantastic and so is the fried chicken biscuits and gravy. Must have when in ATL.

Excellent experience with joining the waitlist on Yelp. We were told when to check in and when we got to the restaurant, we were seated right away. The food was delicious and the portions are always large. Great service too. I love thumbs up. Always my gripe is the cash only policy, so I only come when I happen to have cash. I’m not going out of my way or paying an atm fee to get cash for breakfast!

I came here with on a whim with my friend for breakfast on a Thursday. You can park in the back and they validate your parking for 3 hours. That’s a plus! The food was good only thing the coffee was like warm I prefer my coffee a bit hotter. I’ll definitely come back and yes I recommend!!

Stopped by this diner on a Monday afternoon before hoping on a flight to leave town. It was busier than I expected it to be on a Monday afternoon! My party added our names to the waitlist and waited for a while to be seated but it was worth it! The food was amazing! I had the banana nut French toast with veggie sausages. Our waitress was lovely! The host staff wasn’t the best but I understand due to the business he couldn’t pay us much attention. When they reached out to let us know our table was ready he basically pointed to our table and we sat ourselves. Overall the food was amazing so it made it all worth it!

I enjoy coming here with my kids for a simple breakfast/brunch. The staff is very friendly, the service is amazing (Rashid has served us multiple times) and portions are generous. The place is always packed so I recommend joining the digital waitlist on the Yelp app when you’re on your way OR plan for 10-20 minutes to be seated. I wouldn’t say the food is exceptional but it’s good. We really like the spuds. They have plenty of vegetarian options including vegetarian sausage. Note that they accept CASH ONLY which can be inconvenient (took 1 star off for this reason). All in all I recommend this place and will definitely be back again.

My family and I visited Georgia for a week and thus by far were one of the best spots we've been to. Absolutely amazing. Our waitress was friendly and the food was amazing! Catfish crispy and seasoned well, I took pieces and stirred it around in the cheesy grits. Eggs were fluffy and scrambled as if I made it myself. Pork chops not to salty and super tasty with that sausage gravy. Potatoes were tender, waffles and pancakes were great!! We enjoyed everything 😁😁😁

Wonderful diner! It was a little busy and we waited about an hour on a Sunday morning, but it was worth the wait. It’s exactly what you want out of a diner. The eggs were great, the bacon was great, and the pancakes were delicious. Shane, our server, was fantastic. He was nice, attentive and very quick. He was constantly topping off our coffee. If you want if you’re in the area looking for a great breakfast option, this one disappoint.

The food was absolutely delicious. There was quite a long wait. However, the staff was welcoming and accommodating. The menu is very well priced, I haven't gotten that much bang for my buck in a while. If you're going on Sundays (or a weekend) get there early. I will definitely be back!

I loveeee thumbs up! I actually order online a lot, especially on Sundays. However, if you have time it’s nice to go in and sit down to eat. The diner is always clean and has a welcoming/ homey feel and once you taste the food your soul will be singing. I usually get the shrimp and grits/ with chicken sausage. It has a name, but is not on the menu to order online that’s why I always forget when I order it in person(LOL). Another one of my favorites is the fish and shrimp platter. Seasoned to perfection.. the food literally tastes like you’re at a fish fry back home! The ultimate seaside is also amazing! The grits are amazing and the customer service is always so great! My boyfriend’s favorite is the French toast and that’s literally what he orders every time! So good!!! Try it out because you won’t regret it.

Cash Only Establishment. Let me lead lead that 😅 Very good! Came with a friend for breakfast. I had the double dipped French toast, and she the veggie sausage Omelets. Bother were super tasty! Staff was friendly and masked, which I always appreciate. Place was clean. Parking was a little tricky, but not a problem. Would definitely recommend!

So this is a cool little breakfast joint in Atlanta. I got the smoked wings, eggs, waffle breakfast and added a side of grits with cheese in it. The wings were very dry, definitely were not fresh. Almost had a taste like they were from the previous day. The waffle was definitely nothing more Than pancake mix in a waffle maker. Waffles should have a lighter consistency and texture than pancakes. These were just as thick as a pancake. The grits were supposed to have cheese in them. Not only did I not see the cheese in them but I didn’t taste it either. The eggs were good. And the sweet tea was good. Other than that, it was definitely a miss for me.

  • 5/5 Rashonda H. 2 years ago on Google
Great food! Nice menu and location. The grits are the best I've had. The French Toast is AMAZING! The quality of the bread used to make it seems homemade. There is something for all appetites. And if you want something that's going to have your eyes closed while you eat it, try the smoked wings. You'll thank me later. As a FYI. THEY ARE A CASH ONLY establishment. However, there is an ATM located inside.

Sat at the bar and had brunch on a Saturday. Expect a wait for it is worth it....friendly service and yummy food! Split the Southwestern Eggs and a pancake. Plenty of food and lots of flavor.

My friends and I had brunch at Thumbs up on Saturday and the food was very good. Although the wait was extremely long, once we were seated our food came out very quickly and it was hot and delicious and very reasonably priced even in today’s economy. One of the only gripes I have is that this is a cash only restaurant. I didn’t realize that until I saw the sign out front. They do have an ATM inside but you’ll have to pay a fee. Other than that I would definitely go back.

It was okay. I had the chicken strip biscuit with eggs and cheese. The biscuits are whole wheat which takes the southern classic away. The chicken strips were a little tough buy its not that expensive so... I guess. I'm not sure if I'll be back but it's a cute diner

I am a breakfast person so this is right up my alley! Came for brunch and the place was packed (always a good sign). Waited a while for a table but once we were seated, we were greeted immediately and warmly by our server. We had a variety of items like a skillet, chicken tenders and other breakfast goodies. Everything was hot, fresh and served with a smile. I will be back for sure...

Ordered pancakes and they were cold and doughy. Order the second pair the same thing . The food sits until they come and get it. So it’s cold. Never will come back. Over rated .

The breakfast was pretty good and filling. It was a little wait but not too bad for a Saturday. The food came out quick and hot. My hot chocolate was pretty tasty and filled to the top. The serve my family and I had was on it.

Came here on a Monday morning around 9:30am. There was plenty of free street parking available which we took advantage of and there was also a small parking lot alongside the building but was full when we arrived. My family and I were greeted as soon as we came in and our server came. They told us we could sit anywhere we liked and there was no waiting period. The menu is available through QR code. I ordered the fish and shrimp combo; it came with a piece of fried fish, maybe fried shrimp, grits, 2 eggs (cooked your way), and bread. It was A LOT of food but it was cooked perfectly. The grits were cooked just as long as my grandma cooks them!! The rest of my family chose the option to built a plate. One ordered double dipped French toast, country sausage, bacon and mixed fruit. Our two little ones shared a banana nut pancake, a fresh fruit bowl, chicken sausage, and apple juice. The food came out in a good amount of time, was served hot and tasted fresh. The restaurant was decorated appropriately throughout. It had a nice country vibe. The bathroom was well stocked and clean. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. Our server was a very nice woman who was always there if we needed anything. We never had to look for her which I appreciated. When ready to pay, we were able to pay through the same QR code where we saw the menu. So if it gets busy, as long as you’re paying electronically, you don’t have to wait for the server to come back. Great place, great food, great service.

The food was great. It wasn’t to salty or over-seasoned! I’d give it an 7/10 as far as taste! I ordered the grilled chicken wings, catfish, eggs, & potatoes. I also had french toast too. My whole group ordered the french toast too. My sister had shrimp & grits, as well, which was absolutely delicious, 10/10… And my bestfriend ordered sweet potato fries & some other stuff lol, we all ordered quite a few things. The sweet tea & lemonade mixed together was absolutely amazing too! Our waiter was awesome to; he did a great job. It was my birthday so I definitely wanted to go enjoy myself at a nice restaurant establishment. The only problem was the fruit flies, knats, & things… Very irritating when trying to eat. But the space is so small & cozy so I definitely understand but, maybe they could try to do something about it or to prevent it. Idk, that is my only complaint! Everything else was good. 👏🏾👏🏾😀😀

Stopped by to have lunch, nice diner! Chicken salad melt (8/10) will get soggy fast House salad with greek dressing (10/10) Burger melt (8/10) with fries. Great service, food came fast. Would come back again and try other things on the menu!

Right after arriving in on an early morning flight to Atlanta, Georgia from LaGuardia, NY Airport, my sister drove me here to Thumbs Up Diner and I was in breakfast heaven. The catfish with grits was not playing. Delicious! I Highly recommend because you will not be disappointed. 👋🏾🖤

Great food (I especially loved their cream cheese scrambled eggs) and good service. Great place to stop and eat if you're visiting the MLK Jr. Historic Sites or attending Ebenezer Baptist- very close and convenient!

It was my first time eating there. Right way I was greeted with warm atmosphere and good music. The coffee has free refills and the food was great! I will be coming back. The food doesn’t take long either. And their pricing is alright. 😊… The waitresses were polite too, with eye contact and smiles!

There’s a little tablet to type in your party size and if you want a booth or table. Wonderful service and great food. Definitely a go to spot in Atlanta

  • 5/5 Casual F. 1 year ago on Google
Excellent breakfast all around! Absolutely cute diner with great service. There are some traditional diner counter seats, booths, and some regular tables. There is also a men’s and women’s bathroom. We ordered a chicken finger breakfast biscuit sandwich with a side of gravy, a salmon and egg scramble with an everything bagel, and two buckwheat pancakes with maple syrup. Everything was good but the star of the show was the buckwheat pancake. I’ve never had a buckwheat pancake before but it was SOO GOOD. The pancakes were slightly nutty due to the buckwheat and they were soo moist and tender. Regular flour pancakes cannot compare to how moist and tender they were. Also, they were moist but not overly buttery or oily. I did not feel heavy after eating them. I do not know what sorcery they used to make them but I could have eaten 10 more pancakes. Also, there is a small parking lot next to the restaurant but there is also plenty of street parking.

Service was really good. The food is not worth the price at all. The eggs and grits together was good. 6/10 The sausage was really bad 0/10 and the tenders were okay 3/10 I did not like that the menu was online but my server was clear that there was another option available. My only issue was the price. I ordered eggs grits and sausage and an order of tenders Tenders were 6.99 with no fries. The breakfast was 3.97 for 2 eggs A small grits was 1.99 that was acceptable And 2 sausage was 3.99. 2 Drinks were 2.59 each. Again the service was amazing but the overall food quality and price wasn't met.

Really good service and great cheap food! Ideal if you want a diner breakfast. Loved the French toast, chicken fingers, pancakes and egg sandwich biscuit (not pictured). Restaurant is cash only but there’s an atm in the back

French toast was so fluffy and the grits were amazing!! I found this cute little place on a whim when my sister and I were craving some brunch. Only thing that caught us off guard is they only take cash. Thankfully there is an atm in house. Would def recommend for my brunch lovers.

First time in Atlanta and first time here! The food was amazing and I want to come back again! I had the fried fish and shrimp and grits and was blown away by how good the fish was! The shrimp and grits weren’t spicy and tasted more like dinner. Not your traditional brunch shrimp and grits. The server was very attentive and accommodating to our big party.

  • 5/5 LaTonya B. 2 years ago on Google
My family loves this place. The catfish and grits were delicious and so is the bacon and French toast! The waitress "Shorty" is friendly and fast! Overall, for the high volume on the weekends, it runs well.

  • 5/5 Kaisha R. 1 year ago on Google
A MUST every time I go to Atlanta. Homemade breakfast and lunch that taste like you grandma just cooked for you. That close early and waiting times are long but trust me is soooooo worth it. Steak and eggs my absolute favorite. And the service is always outstanding.

My good friend and I went here during our recent stay in Atlanta. We would talk to locals and Uber drivers who would make recommendations and three of the five we had recommended this place so we went. Food is yummy. Great southern hospitality and "Shorty" our server was sooo nice. She's a sweetheart and really treated us "non locals" as if we were part of the community. Made for a a great experience. Prices were good, place was clean.

Hands down, one of the best breakfasts I have ever had! I had the chicken strips with Belgian waffle and eggs. My husband got the catfish and waffle. Everything tasted wonderful! The restaurant was very busy, but the service was excellent! I would absolutely recommend this restaurant, but make sure you bring your appetite!

Shrimp and Grits soooo GOOOOOD! Delicious food and fast, friendly service.kids loved the Fluffy eggs and multi grain biscuit, and challah french toast YUM! Hubby had the Heap, the potatoes were lovely, crusted on a skillet! Def rec for

  • 5/5 Karen M. 2 years ago on Google
Went w/the hubs on a late Tuesday morning. Sat at the counter - no wait (please note - there’s always a wait on the weekend). Service was outstanding! We had already had coffee earlier that morning so she made a fresh pot of decaf for us (excellent decaf, I might add). I got a skillet heap w/chopped smoked chicken and chicken sausage. Oh yeah! First off, it was delicious! The potatoes were nice and crispy on the outside, melted cheese on top, the smoked chicken was very good, and I especially loved the chicken sausage (it was a cut up link). Secondly, it was a ton of food! Can’t wait to have my leftovers for breakfast tomorrow! The hubs got eggs, catfish, and cheese grits. The catfish was the best I’ve ever tasted! The grits were up at the top of my best ever list too. I also really liked the multi grain biscuits (although the hubs said he’d get the toast next time instead). Overall a lovely breakfast!

This was my first time eating at this restaurant when I touched back down in Atlanta to visit family and friends. I must say that this food was amazing! I can't remember the name of the skillet dish I ordered, but it has scrambled eggs, potatoes, chicken sausage, shrimp, cheese, and a spicy sauce. The dish also came with a wheat biscuit and a homemade mixed berry jam, which it makes you want to slap your mama! It was so good and a really huge portion that 2 people can eat from. My bestie order a side catfish for us to split and try. OMG...very flavorful, crispy on the outside soft to the bite on the inside. Service was impeccable and the food came out with no delays. Highly recommend!
