This place is seriously amazing! There are vegan and celiac safe gluten free options. Even the FRIES ARE GLUTEN FREE because it’s a dedicated fryer! Ordered the Copacabana with added carnitas and I can’t stop thinking about it, the Year of the Tiger bowl with chicken was super tasty and filling, and the vegan cream sauce on the loaded fries is to die for. Definitely a great choice for lunch but the market has limited seating so you should get it to go.

Recess and Bar Mercado are a combined. I’m reviewing an item on the Recess menu. The patio is great. Not very big but nice. The service we had last night was pretty good but the food was so delicious. The bowl is so flavorful-a nice mix of textures too. The bowl can be all vegetarian or you can add a protein. I didn’t add a meat and it is very filling with more to take home. If you’re looking for good vegetarian or vegan options, but really just good food, I’d recommend Recess.

5+++ stars. RECESS IS AMAZING. Not only is the food amazing (especially the Don Diego bowl), but the customer service is incredible. I thought I ordered for delivery, but it was for pick-up, and I was still at work/Krog was closing. I emailed the customer service address to cancel my order/get a refund & 15 minutes later the owner (nicest guy) calls to tell me he is closing up & and can deliver it. I told him it was too much, but he insisted since he didn’t want the food to go to waste & I was on his way to the other location. Totally turned my day around. He delivered my food & wouldn’t accept an extra tip. Delicious food, nicest owner.

This place just reopened and I ate there twice last week. Superbowl was very good and enough food for a second meal later that day. And the Carnitas Torta was delicious (juicy and crunchy). Don’t sleep on the desserts either. Will be back.

Tasted good, nothing outstanding but it was a really nice healthy option in the market. No customer service because it was all done through a QR code but order was ready quick. Lost points for price unfortunately, hate to say it, expensive lunch

Ordering was all online which made it super easy. The loaded fries filled me up so much. 10/10 would recommend for sweet potato lovers.

Mediocre at best. From the lack of customer service to the sorry salad bowl. Recess was the ONLY establishment that wouldn’t even acknowledge a customer. Not even a hello. They opted for completely distanced ordering. THEN after you order online it says you will get updates. I checked the counter multiple times and was COMPLETELY IGNORED. 23 minutes later my bowl was on the window. No text. No message. A girl from the back came up as I was looking to talk to someone and I see the bowl and check the name.. I told her I was disappointed that no one spoke to me or notified me my food was ready. Everyone else in my group ordered from several other establishments placing their orders after mine and they were done eating by the time I got mine. So the food. The dressing was so disappointing. The collards were obviously room temp and not chilled or warmed. Just kind of sad. The sweet potatoes looked old. The salad bits were wilted. And the rice was almost al dente. It was cold. I expected a combination of hot and cold ingredients. Then I added shredded chicken that tasted like rubber and was also cold and dry. I read great reviews and I was interested in the menu but it fell so short of expectations. Skip this place and go get a ramen and a bao bun. They were fast, hot and actually good. I was really looking forward to this place and wow- management fail. Customer service fail. Freshness fail. Menu meh.

My partner and I have a whole list of allergies and Recess is very allergen friendly, labeling their entire menu. We’re so far beyond that that we provide our own custom printed allergy card for the kitchen. Not only were they completely accommodating, but the food was clean and so delicious. We plan on returning often. Highly recommended.

Their dishes taste far better than they should! For a decently healthy option, I would go here again and again. Only been once, but we were both blown away by the taste, quality, and service.

Enjoyed Recess for the first time via UberEats. I had never heard of Recess before, but was well aware of Bar Mercado. We ordered a My Farro Lady, the Harvest Moon Salad and a Green Smoothie. Upon delivery, we were short one Green Smoothie. The food was delicious and exceeded all expectations. Recess had refunded the smoothie almost immediately after delivery. Safe to say, I will be returning to Recess and Bar Mercado soon!!! Highly Recommend 11/10

Harvest moon salad is delicious and healthy. Everything is portioned perfectly for a salad. Definitely big enough to split with someone as well. I enjoyed adding chicken the second time. Idk if I could spend $6 dollars for the shrimp though, that's a tad bit overpriced imo. Overall, great healthy choice though.

I’m leaving this review in the spirit of helping other families that make the trip to Krog Street Market for an outing as we often do. We had a disappointing experience at Recess upon ordering two kids meals (an almond butter and jelly sandwich) for my 4 and 6 year old. It was listed as kids meal: a sandwich served with sweet potato fries for $5 each. The meal that was served did not meet our expectation. We were served a half sandwich that wouldn’t feed a small toddler per picture attached. I went back to the counter to inquire. I waited, while the seemingly small issue was escalated to management, only to be told to pay for a new order of two more sandwiches (would have been a total of $20 dollars not including tax and gratuity). In terms of service, guest experience and value for money, Recess did not deliver.

Recess is absolutely my favorite foot stall at Krog St Market. They have great vegan options. My favorite is the Hippie Mario, give it a try even if you're not vegan. We will often order Recess for lunch at my office and it is a huge hit every time. They have options to please a lot of people. Price and portions are on point. Already looking forward to my next visit.

Incredible experience! Recess catered a lunch for 12 people at my office today. The order was on time and everything was packaged/labeled perfectly. The sandwiches were just as good two hours into the event as they were when they first arrived....and the peachy keen salad was out of this world. The manager made the ordering process a breeze and recommended the perfect amount of food. We look forward to using them again in the future.

What a great food place! The employees are super nice and the food was excellent. Though I only had the loaded sweet potatoes, the quality of the side item is most likely representative of yummy options on their entire menu. The loaded sweet potatoes fries came with chives, garlic and chipotle aioli, and chili crisps. The aioli was reminiscent of crème fraiche type sauce and tasted delightful with the chives and chili flakes. I wish the sweet potatoes were thicker and had more of a meaty and soft center to counterbalance crispy, dry texture of the other layer. Yes, my many years of watching cooking shows and eating at amazing restaurants has earned me an honorary culinary degree (jokes). I’m excited to return and try the other items on the menu. I definitely recommend this cute vegan spot to other foodies out there looking for healthy, or food tolerant, options.

Unfortunately didn’t have a great experience here for a few reasons -Felt like the value wasn’t there - getting 3 pieces of tofu for the amount they charge for the protein is not worth it; there are other similar options that are a better value in that department -Not sure what it was exactly, but got a piece of meat in my bowl (vegetarian here so noticed fairly quickly) It’s possible I had a rough experience but not sure I’d recommend to others. The food itself was otherwise fine / good, nothing out of this world. Surprised by my experience especially since it wasn’t even busy.

Was looking forward to trying this place!! I ordered takeout via Uber eats and it was not good. They forgot to include my drink and my chips. my cookie was smooshed in between two boxes so when I opened the bag it crumbled into a billion pieces. My Uber driver was at the restaurant before the food was ready and arrived 10 mins before the estimated time yet the food came cold. EDIT: they offered me $20 off to order again so I did and got the same thing. The pesto sandwich and sweet potato fries were great but again everything was really cold. They’re less than 5 mins from us and the uber drivers are always waiting at the restaurant I think the food just sits out too long before getting to them. Cookies were a little burnt my partner didn’t like them but I thought they were okay.

I do love this restaurant, don’t get me wrong. I am grateful to have healthy, clean food in the city. However, they have made things more “instant” and less delicious. There used to be more marination and prep-love put into the veg, and even more variety. I have to give it 3 stars for the reduction in quality.

It was a little bit irritating to find this restaurant as the location has been changed from inside Krog Street Market to inside Bar Mercado. Meaning that you have two menus (omnivore Menü of Bar Mercado and vegan/veg menu of Recess) in one restaurant. The vegan bowl was outstanding. The seasoning was a really flavourful southern style. The Malbec (propably not vegan) and the brussel sprouts were also great. The crew was unbelievable attentive and kind. This is a good place for groups or couples with different food preferences. Vegans and non-vegans alike will be happy.

Can’t truly review how the food was as we never received it. Placed an online order at 7:17pm for an 8:15pm pickup. Arrived on time to pick up my order only to be told that they had decided to close half an hour early and what order was I talking about? Dude never checked incoming orders, claimed they had shut everything down and tidied up so they couldn’t prepare my food. Gave me two free waters as compensation but it really screwed us for dinner plans as a lot of restaurants in ATL close early. Hope I actually receive the refund I was promised. Obviously we will never return.

Recess is one of the more unique restaurants at Krog with so many vegetarian and vegan options. Their Pancho and Lefty bowl was pretty good! The ingredients are pretty good for what you pay for, but I will say that the proteins were over-seasoned to compensate for the brown rice that was a bit overcooked and not seasoned as much. I added an avocado half to the bowl which was delightful and the avocado was just ripe and delicious, but even it was seasoned a bit heavily for my taste. Of everything in that bowl, the red onions were probably my favorite bite with the avocado. 4 stars for the rice, but will come back to try another bowl.

Stopped here randomly for lunch because we got hungry walking the belt line. Very cute patio with amazing food! We loved everything we tried including the Peachy Keen salad (added chicken- very large and filling), empanadas, plantains, and yuca fries.

  • 2/5 Ren e. 3 years ago on Google
Their food tastes great. I really love the Pancho & Lefty. Last week unfortunately it tasted like they hadn’t washed the kale (tons of grit (dirt) when I bit it ). I called the restaurant and told them. They thanked me for letting them know and said they would tell the kitchen. Today (a week later) the kale is just as gritty. It seems like either they don’t know HOW to clean leafy greens or they just don’t care about food cleanliness. Either way I won’t be buying from here again.

  • 5/5 Michelle C. 3 years ago on Google
I order here weekly sometimes - that’s how good it is! Super fresh ingredients, large portion sizes, nice staff. You can’t go wrong with anything you get here, but the harvest moon is my favorite followed by the My Farrow Lady grain bowl.

  • 4/5 Mariam A. 3 years ago on Google
Parking here is a deterrent. But you would be satisfied with the yummy food at Recess!! We had the 'My farro lady' and Harvest moon. We also enjoyed their Frosé!

  • 3/5 Matthew W. 3 years ago on Google
We understand everyone is working hard during the Pandemic and we appreciate the employees who are working to serve to go meals. While the taste of our kale salad with avocado and chicken was amazing, the portion size was definitely more appetizer size than an entree. There were exactly three pieces of chicken and about a half dozen pieces of kale in this salad. Unfortunately we won't be coming back here because we paid $15 for a salad that would be considered a bite sized appetizer.

  • 5/5 Ty M. 3 years ago on Google
Our neighborhood go-to when we’re craving something healthy. It’s by no means “health food”—it’s just fresh, high quality and vaguely Mediterranean/Californian food that makes you feel good after eating it. They really get texture right here.

  • 5/5 Joy H. 4 years ago on Google
I love the location and I've been there three times in three weeks, every time I tried a different restaurant. Recess is so far the most extravagant with uncommon dishes. I live their bowl and the one with chickpeas was incredibly tasty. However nothing tastes like I'm used to, that is, they prepare their dishes in a completely different way and I was speechless when I try the beetroots and I like them. Well done.

Edit: I have ordered food from Recess three times since writing my initial review, and taking a break from the food. I can say with full confidence that every problem I had in the past seems to have been addressed. Today I had the Tom Cruz bowl, a riff off the Pancho and Lefty. It’s was fantastic. All of the food in this dish has been improved since the last time I had it. Still a little on the salty side for me, but I can admit I am sensitive to saltiness. Big props to Recess for addressing issues with their food. Putting it back in the rotation for my healthy food days! Original Review: Ordered the Caesar Salad today, through Uber eats. I’ve had a slew of disappointing experiences from Recess recently, but wanted to give them another shot. When the food is good, it is just so good. So I rolled the dice. And yet again, the food was terrible. The kale was hard and gritty, the artichoke was completely missing, the dressing was overwhelmingly lemony, the croutons were essentially a liquid, and there were a few strange/unidentifiable seeds found in the salad. Unfortunately, I’ve gotta call this one the last straw. I will not be ordering from Recess again after this experience.

This is going to be my new go to spot. Tons of vegan options that was actually flavorful and fulfilling. Our server was super nice and very patient with us. The place is cute for any occasion, like date night, hanging out with friends, going out by yourself, etc. they have outside seating as well and really enforce the 6 ft seating rule.

Great food and decent drinks. Pricing is a little high for the portions but understandable for the location. Bread can be too toasted to have the sandwich not collapse while you eat it. But overall, good.

LOVE IT! If you need a good spot for some vegan/vegetarian brunch food and a nice brewski you should definitely check out Recess. I came here the other day with some family and had brunch at the bar. This restaurant is actually inside Krog St. market, so the only seating is at their bar. If you need more space then you can lay claim to one of the picnic tables into the market that are available to patrons of any of the eateries. The food is fantastic (pictures below) and the service was just as great. The style of the location is modeled after an old school diner with a touch of hipster, which I really enjoyed.

Ok, so this was the first time in the Krog market all together but googled healthy food options in the ATL, and this was the selection for me. SUPER BOWL, don’t like the Chiefs but the SUPER BOWL is it. Added some salmon to that thang and Brussel sprouts. Best place for healthy options in ATL hands down. Coming back today for more. If you all offered meal plans for the busy corporate folks that just work too much they’d make a killing. I’ll be the first to sign up.

Recess Krog is a great spot for tasty and healthy meals. The Don Diego is awesome – it's got this mix of black beans, avocado, and corn that's really flavorful. It's filling but still feels light and fresh. Then there's the Sweeter Greens salad. It's full of fresh greens and veggies, and the dressing is sweet and tangy. It's a really good mix of flavors and super refreshing. Both these dishes stand out because of how fresh and delicious they are. Definitely a must-try place if you're looking for something healthy and yummy.
