Another gem of the area. This museum specializes in ancient artifacts from all over the world. Displays and facilities are first class from personal items and statues to Egyptian mummies. Nicely laid out and easy to follow. Size is great for a 2-4 hour visit depending on how much reading you do. Audio tours are available. Admission at around $8 is great. Parking is a short walk in the parking structure.

Absolutely fantastic learning experience for people of all ages. So many detailed exhibits from ancient mummies of Egypt to Grecian artifacts. Even New Age art with a few pieces that left us with our heads turned to the side and scratching our head. Guides were available in almost every room and the self-guided tour is very easy to follow. We attended on one of the free days (there are many throughout the month) however we encourage you to make a donation to the museum like we did as the experience is definitely worth it. I brought my 3-year-old nephew and 9-year-old daughter this visit. Although there isn't very much to do for children this young mine are a little bit more advanced in their exploration of art since they were exposed to it at a young age. Definitely better for children ages 12 and above. Exhibits are spaced far enough for persons that are none ambulatory to maneuver in wheelchair. There are also ramps and elevators. There is a small coffee shop on the top floor with very polite baristas. Restrooms were very clean and well stocked. I look forward to my next visit to the Michael C. Carlos museum.

The Michael C. Carlos Museum is an art museum located in Atlanta on the historic quadrangle of Emory University's main campus. The Carlos Museum has the largest ancient art collections in the Southeast, including objects from ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, the Near East, Africa and the ancient Americas. The collections are housed in a Michael Graves designed building which is open to the public. One of the oldest museums in Georgia, the museum's collections date back to 1876, when a general museum known as Emory College Museum was established on Emory University's original campus in Oxford, Georgia. After the university was relocated to Atlanta, a small group of professors officially founded the Emory University Museum in 1919. The collections were housed and displayed in various buildings around the campus. Over the years, Atlanta businessman Michael C. Carlos donated over $20 million to create a permanent home for the museum, which opened in 1985. The museum was renamed again to the Emory University Museum of Art and Archaeology and was officially accredited by the American Alliance of Museums as a museum of antiquities and fine arts. Carlos died in December 2002 at the age of 75. A major expansion in 1993 transformed the museum into one of Atlanta's top arts institutions. Upon the new building's opening, the museum became known as the Michael C. Carlos Museum, named after its most generous patron.

Impressive collection of ancient/historical artifacts and art from around the world. You can easily spend between 45 minutes and 2 hours in the museum. Clean and comfortable environment to take it all in.

Interesting collection of ancient world art and artifacts, from Mesopotamia to the Americas, located within Emory University campus. The exhibits are curated and informative, divided into different regions. I loved how they showcased the ancient miniature cylindrical stamps to show the intricate design. The Egyptian room is filled with a handful of mummies and sarcophagus, although I believe one of them is cursed. I took a picture of the mummy postured on its side and I didn't realize until I came home that the picture processing was totally eerie as it only captured the mummy and turned the whole background green. I've never had this happen to my pics before or the other parts of the Egyptian exhibit.

Roughly five kilometres northwest of Decatur in Emory Village is the Michael C Carlos Museum. While not a household name, the museum is nonetheless one of the most important museum spaces to be found in the southeast of the United States. Its permanent collection contains objects from ancient cultures right around the world, making it an important stop for anyone who wants to discover the wonders of ancient Egypt, Rome, or Greece. What’s more, the collection extents to sketches drawn in Renaissance Europe, and artifacts from the cultures of both Asia and Africa too.\ Atlanta’s Carlos Museum has been one of the most important museums in the southeast of the United States for close to a century. Dedicated to arts and artefacts from right around the world, its extensive collections include objects from ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome. It goes on to cover African and Asian cultures in equal detail, while European Renaissance sketches form another important component. As a result, there’s no better place to explore the world in this part of America, with visitors almost guaranteed to find some object that blows their mind. The Carlos Museum is approximately 50 km north of Peachtree City.

I had the best time in this place. The staff are so kind and everyone was friendly. I learned a lot about different places and cultures. My favorite part was the Greek Sculptures. I felt like I traveled to Greece. Definitely would re-visit. I got a free pass from my library. That’s another thing the public library near you offers if you didn’t know. It’s family friendly. You will have to pay for packing here but it’s not expensive. Definitely worth it! And you will have to get a ticket for the after life experience. Amazing experience!

Had a chance to take a trip to Micheal C. Carlos Museum by Gwinnett & Marta Transit with a Gwinnett Library pass. The museum is located within Emory University. Two level museum with interesting artifacts from all over the world. I had two hours before closing to tour the whole entire place and was well worth it.

I went on a Saturday. There wasn't a crowd so I was able to take my time and walk throughout the museum. Would highly recommend to visit this inexpensive hidden gem whenever you have the chance.

Wow what an absolutely cool and interesting museum to visit! At first, me and my aunt came in on the wrong floor and there was no staff or anything lol so we thought that it was just a quick little in and out tour but eventually ended up in the right spot and we’re glad we did! This was the best $8 I’ve spent this year! The museum was way bigger than I had imagined and the variety of sculptures and artifacts varied from Asian, African, Mesoamerican, etc. It was a very cool spur of the moment trip. The only quarrel we had which was quite an odd one, was that it was really weird that there was an unbelievable hike of stairs up to the African American history area. Everything else had an elevator and walk up so that was really off. The African American art gallery was also sadly really small. I see that they’re adding some things on but gotta do better because that doesn’t look good. Overall, the museum is a solid 10/10 😍

Amazing pieces from ancient Greece, Egypt, and more. Wasn’t able to stay as long as needed to see all of the items, sadly. If you come here, be prepared to spend a lot of time reading. I knocked off a star because most of the staff was rude to us during our college-sponsored tour.

Went on a family outing to the Michael C. Carlos Museum. It is a great place to see things that aren't in a typical museum, like mummies and artifacts. Period pieces from Rome, Greece, Egypt, and Africa. Each place had something to offer in the development of civilization as we know it. Great field trip if you love history and art!

This was our first time going to Carlos Museum. This was the last day (8/21/2022) for the “Free Admission” special they were having. It’s a place the family will enjoy! It’s so clean in there, with a lot of interesting things to look at/read about. My husband already said he’s going to tell his friends about it. You gotta go take pictures of the ancient Egyptian mummies. And by the way; parking is FREE on the weekends in the Fishburne Deck and Oxford Road Visitor’s Deck.

The tour guide was very informative and was able to answer every question, she was very kind and patient with all of the kids. Great staff and awesome collection! Although the museum is fairly small, every room is interesting. No skips! Also I LOVED the bookstore. It may be tiny but I think I spent over an hour looking through all the books and found a lot I wanted to read plus a gift for a friend. It had a better world religion section than most major bookstores in my town. The girl working the bookstore was extremely helpful.

There is a huge amount of diverse cultures represented here. The museum is well maintained and staffed with friendly people. Guided tours are available. So much art in a small place. When I went there, I saw no examples of paintings or western art past the Roman Classical period.

I've been wanting to go to this museum for close to twenty years and finally decided to take the leap. I've been kicking myself for not going much sooner! The first floor of the museum is like walking through time only as a modern person can, taking in things that are both foreign and familiar (via study, cinema, etc.) And the second floor hits you with modern/contemporary art that makes one want to take note of the artist. If you really love these kinds of things and this will be your first time visiting, I would recommend carving out at least two to three hours to see everything. And also bring a power pack for your phone as a backup. I never considered myself much as a picture guy, but I took a ton of them while I was there to where they started to drain my battery.

Very well done exhibits and an easy layout to see and read. I thought the miniature works made by the central and South American peoples fascinating. Really informative walking about and seeing items made a millenia ago, then centuries, then decades ago.

Excellent collection of ancient (south) American, Greek, Roman artefacts. A nice Indian (India) exhibit too. Wear comfortable shoes, the floor is hard on feet and knees and there are very few benches to sit. Third floor had visiting exhibits and coffee shop (closed when We visited). Plenty of restaurants close by. Admission price is reasonable for such a collection and spent an enjoyable day there.

I was very pleased with the size of the facility and the quality pieces of artwork on display. There were exhibits from Africa, Asia, India, North American Indian, Greece, Rome, etc... Its almost as if your literally walking through history. There was so much to see. Expect to be there for at least 2 hours if you truly want to immerse yourself in the different cultures represented. You CAN take pictures, but NO FLASH allowed! ENJOY!

Driving to parking deck was a breeze. The walk to the Museum short. The greeter near the entrance was so interesting that me and my Mom laughed and talked with her. The exhibits far exceeded my expectations. I can go every day for a week and not, ever, get bored. The staff was knowledgeable, friendly, quiet and dressed to impress. The book store is equipped with topics that are amazing. To top it off there's Ebrik coffee and more. Yes I have to mention the Ladies rooms are sparkling clean.
