I've been here quite a few times with friends. It's a nice seafood restaurant if you like variety and ambiance. It does get crowded on the weekends so I suggest you make a reservation. It was a party of three so we had a variety of dishes. The oysters was good and so was the cesar salad. I had the redfish. It was tender and cooked perfectly. All the food was good but the portion size was kinda small, especially for the scallops. You only get there. I feel like this isn't a restaurant that's objective is to satisfy not stuff you. The service was good and I was greeted soon as I walked in evnethough it was packed. Optimist is one of my top 5 seafood restaurants in Atl.

I had a lovely time tonight at the Optimist! I sat at the bar to have a quiet night alone and it was such a treat. Walter was my bartender and did an excellent job making a stellar martini and providing attentive service. I had 6 oysters to start and then he recommended the scallops for my entree. You HAVE to try the scallops - they were phenomenal. I had the broccolini on the side since the scallops were a small serving size - but I promise even though there are only a few in the order they are so decadent & delicious that it’s the perfect size. I asked Walter for a wine pairing and he suggested the Riesling which was wonderful. I love coming here and will be back again soon!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Optimist in Atlanta, GA, and let me tell you, it was an absolute treat! From the moment I walked in, I knew I was in for a fantastic dining experience. First of all, the restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating options, making it a versatile choice for any occasion. Whether you prefer the cozy ambiance of the indoor dining area or the refreshing outdoor patio, Optimist has got you covered. To kick off our evening, we ordered their signature margaritas, and they did not disappoint. These cocktails were expertly crafted, perfectly balanced, and incredibly tasty. They set the tone for a delightful meal ahead. One thing that stood out right from the start was the warm, freshly baked bread that was served as an appetizer. It was so tempting that we couldn't resist indulging. The bread was soft, warm, and had a delightful crust - an excellent teaser of the culinary delights that awaited us. For our main course, we decided to share the lobster and shrimp dish, and it was a decision we did not regret. The seafood was impeccably prepared, succulent, and bursting with flavor. The dish had a perfect balance of seasonings, and the portion size was just right. It left us craving for more. Throughout our meal, our waiter provided exceptional service. They were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu, making excellent recommendations. Their professionalism added to the overall enjoyment of our dining experience. By the end of the evening, I was already planning my next visit to Optimist. It's safe to say that this restaurant has catapulted itself into my top three favorite dining spots in Atlanta. The combination of delectable food, outstanding service, and a welcoming atmosphere is truly hard to beat. Optimist is undoubtedly the place to go if you're looking for a place to enjoy an incredible meal, fantastic drinks, and a memorable dining experience in Atlanta. I can't recommend it enough and can't wait to return for another delicious meal.

Food in my opinion, was excellent. I didn't have one thing that I wasn't happy with. The mescaline old fashioned wasn't on the menu, but if you ask for it, ye shall receive. Leighton, our server had excellent recommendations and was professional yet friendly.

Beautiful atmosphere and delicious food. All of the food wasn’t as flavorful but overall the food was great. The oysters were the best I’ve had. The mussels and the sauce with the subtle kick was so flavorful. The only thing that was disappointing were the sides. They were fresh but a little bland. I did get the hush puppies afterwards and it was good. It tasted sweet but not too sweet, light and airy. The service was also great from beginning to end.

As someone who has tried another establishment by Chef Ford Fry and was disappointed by the food, I was slightly apprehensive about coming to The Optimist. Well, happy to say I was pleasantly surprised. Atmosphere - The Optimist provides valet parking next at the apartment building right net to the restaurant for $5. Looking at the restaurant from the outside, it appears small but inside it has a large and beautiful setting. Appetizer/Bread - The she-crab soup rightfully earned its place as the most recommended appetizer on google reviews. The soup is decadent with cream, wine, and chucks of crab meat. The shrimp toast served with it is even better. The other appetizer I ordered was the GA peach salad I believe. This was a lot more disappointing than the soup unfortunately. The blue cheese and smell/taste salad dressing was very, very overpowering and the slices of peaches were so thin that it was not enjoyable as it could be. If you ever smelled nail varnish, I would say that's the closet thing that the salad dressing smells like; it's THAT pungent. The house made bread is a great combination between salty and sweet and almost has a biscuit-like texture. It is also very, very filling so beware! Entrees - I had the normal lobster roll which has cold lobster filling served on a warm brioche bun and their house made chips. I honestly loved their potato chips more than I loved the lobster roll; the chips were BBQ but not ketchup-taste overpowering and had hints of cajun/old bay seasoning. The lobster roll is very decadent- the lobster filling is already very creamy with mayo and the brioche bun makes it almost slightly overpowering. It's great that they served it with a slice of lemon to bring the much needed acidity to brighten the flavors. The other entrée was the swordfish, which was also highly recommended. This might be personal but I'm personally not the biggest fan of swordfish- I felt that it lacks in the flavor department and needed more of the great-tasting sauce to compensate. I loved the lady peas the swordfish was served with however. Service - I had a very lovely server who was very attentive and very sweet. Unfortunately, I don't remember her name but she made The Optimist experience much more enjoyable. Recommendations/Overall - If I do come here again, I would try all the appetizers. It's more cost efficient and very filling.

Service is always great and the folks working here always give extra to show exceptional hospitality still exists. The food is really really good - it will taste just as it is described and the crudos, starters and mains should all be explored and enjoyed. Fried oysters if you don’t like them raw, the potatoes are a hit and even the burger is great… I know, a burger at a seafood spot. Anyway, save room for dessert!

My honey and I visited here. The simplicity of the restaurant was intriguing and I loved the tempo and flow of the staff. Upon seating we were greeted and we ordered food and drinks. We had several employees attending to our every need. Everyone worked collectively. The food was awesome. The only thing I would change is adding more to the menu. Very few choices on the menu for food. It seemed to be more wine selections than food on the menu. Variety will definitely bring me back again and again. Enjoyed the food and atmosphere. I will definitely tell others about this place and will definitely be back❤️

First of all the service was exceptional. The server was very caring and made my overall experience wonderful. I also enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant where it was in a good balance of formal and casual. However, food was a bit of disappointment, as I visited with high expectation. They were good but not amazing. Ingredients were very fresh but sauces/seasonings were overpowering the ingredients. This place is known for oysters and it is unfortunate I can't eat oysters. It might have been better if I visited with someone who can taste them for me. I would still visit this place again to try other dish, if I'm in this area.

Best seafood in Atlanta, bar none. Very popular so make your reservation a week in advance to get a decent time. Expect creatively-prepared seafood that is fresh and delicious, well-crafted cocktails, and ambience galore. Servers are some of the best in Atlanta and I highly recommend the table bread. It's sooo good.

The seafood gumbo was my favorite! Photos are half portions since I split with someone else. Cocktails were well-made and not too sweet. My biggest issue is that they over-salted the bread. The quality of the bread is amazing, but it was over-salted on both the free bread brought out at the beginning, and with the bread on the lobster roll feature. If the free bread at the beginning of your meal is too salty, be sure to mention that when you order the lobster roll. The contents of the lobster roll were fantastic, and the over -salted bread was the only thing holding it back. Great overall!

We attended a private event hosted by my company yesterday. About 300 people in total. The Optimist was the best decision our planners could have made. Absolutely amazing seafood (fresh oysters and lobster were unreal), drinks and ambience coupled with another level of hospitality from all the staff. Highly recommend this place if you’re in Atlanta

Everything was good but a bit off the mark for the price point. This review is old as we visited in Jan 2023, but I remember it vividly. We had recently visited the now defunct King+Duke, which we absolutely adored and rivaled NYC dining. We expected the Optimist to have similar feels and deliver a stellar experience, but it was underwhelming at best. The flavor didn’t wow us, the service was bleh, and we felt like we could have made everything we had on our own (and have done so). If looks were to be trusted, you might be impressed. Approach with caution and and pessimism and your expectations might level out. Lobster roll was not buttery, greens were vinegary, scallops tasted rubbery, and drinks were subpar. Had high expectations. Maybe we’ll try again someday.

They have valet right next to the restaurant when you're pull in the shared parking deck between The Optimist and Superica West Midtown, on Howell Mill road. You can text the valet to have your car ready by walking out. Paying and tipping can also be done on phone. We had a reservation for my friends birthday. They have a menu with a Happy Birthday stamp on it for her, and she likes it a lot. The food and service is as good as always. We started dinner at 7. The light of the restaurant still well lit by then but they will dim it down as the time goes later into the night. We're good with the light, but I think it will cause visual issue for some people when reading menu. The ambience is good. A bit loud since the place is packed on a Friday night. We had to speak up a bit to hear each other. We had: + Appetizer: - Roasted oysters: it's really good and not in the menu but you can always order it. - A dozen of raw oysters: Round Island and Bay Shores - Blue crab claws: they're tiny but tasty. - Pei mussels - Whole Shrimp a la Plancha with big toasts - Spicy kale salad + Entree: - Roasted Maine lobster - Whole flounder + Dessert: Sorbet of the moment, daiquiri The portion is a bit small for every dish. But we had lots of appetizers so we left with full happy tummies. All in all, if you're into seafood and oysters, this place has solid quality. Highly recommended.

Yum. Some of the better seafood I've had. I was referred to this restaurant and it did not disappoint. The octopus appetizer was amazing. Oysters all in the half shell were nice and fresh. Branzino was perfectly cooked and was the whole fish. It was scrumptious. Atmosphere was nice. I got right in on a Friday night at six without any struggle and without a reservation. Give it a shot if you're looking for great seafood in Atlanta.

This place is awesome. They deliver quality seafood, fast service, and a great ambiance at a reasonable price. I ordered the lobster roll, hush puppies, and apple cake. All were recommendations from my server. The portions were generous and the food was super fresh and delicious. There were a lot of options. I would have loved to have a little more time to explore the menu. All of the service staff were on point, really friendly and on top of their jobs. Highly recommend this place.

The Optimist is a great restaurant hands down. The seafood is phenomenal and the prime rib steak I had melted in your mouth. Brittany, our server was spectacular. She knew the menu inside and out and made perfect recommendations when asked. You won't go wrong eating here.

Took my mom here for Mother’s Day because this is one of her favorite restaurants. For an appetizer we had the kale salad and gumbo. I had a glass of Riesling and my mom had a French 75, all of which were very tasty. For dinner we had the branzino, braised greens, rice, and Brussels sprouts. For dessert we had the strawberry tart. The food was amazing! Annie was our waitress and her service was so good. Would highly recommend this restaurant.

Absolutely recommend if you are a fan of seafood. Started the meal with smoked fish dip and burrata appetizer. In awe of the smoked fish dip. Best one I’ve ever had - yes, I think so! Beignets were a sweet and savory bite that I loved. The pictured red fish serving is half size (split with my date) and was very yummy. Fried rice was strong and aromatic. It paired beautifully with the fish. Obsessed with the gremolada on the broccoli - chef if you read this can you send me the recipe? Overall a great date night or stop in for oyster happy hour.

Second time eating here and it was perfect once again. The tuna was cooked to perfection and the corn hush puppies were amazing. My daughter had the swordfish and said it too was amazing. Salted caramel ice cream for me to finish off the meal - I wanted to lick the bowl. Service was impeccable- thank you Tyson (sorry if I butchered the spelling ) I have several allergies and you ensured all was taken care of. Cheers!

I had been waiting to eat at this establishment for months... Service was outstanding!! Our server was extremely knowledgeable, patient, courteous and amicable. Couldn't ask for a better person. Unfortunately, two of the meals were topped with way too much salt. Once you removed the top layer of salty "goodness" the main courses were tolerable. Thankfully appetizers, sides and deserts were good. I'm not letting this one experience ruin it for me so I'll be back in the future. Appetizers are shareable. If you're wanting to sit in the dining section make reservations a few days in advance especially for Fri & Sat nights. Oyster bar area is open at 3pm while dining section starts seating at 5pm. Upper scale casual atmosphere. They are able to accommodate large or small parties.

I like this place especially during happy hour for the oyster bar. You only get 4 choices but they were still pretty good. I am a little disappointed that in a few months the price of the grilled octopus went from 18 to 21 and it got smaller! A little ridiculous for the price but the flavor is excellent. The shrimp appetizer was pretty good. The bread was seasoned better than the shrimp! The sauce it sits in was very good. You can eat outside so it is great for social distancing. If you are ok with spending close to 100 for 2 people to have a couple of appetizers and a drink then go for it! Or just go for the happy hour oyster bar!

WOW! Really a great experience all around. From the drinks, service and food was great. Had the Shrimp and Octopus small plates app along with the Kale Chorizo salad and Redfish dinner. Everything was cooked to perfection and times well. Can’t wait to go back to their as bar and enjoy more.

The Optimist doesn’t disappoint! Bread with a hint of sea salt, seafood gumbo and smoked seafood chowder are excellent starters. My daughter had the whole bronzino in a citrus sauce, also very good, and I had the grouper which I thought was excellent. Market rate oysters from both coasts are a must.

Amazing good and atmosphere. Great service, everyone was very polite and attentive and was very knowledgeable about the menu and gave great recommendations. The raw oysters are s definitely must. I would try a few of the different oysters and see which ones you fancy because they all taste different. The free bread buns that they serve you at the beginning are so simple but i loved it. There's a little melted butter on it and they sprinkle kosher salt on it. Best free rolls as an appetizer I've ever had. Simple but delicious. The lobster was also delicious. The cocktails were so interesting and all were great. The dessert wine was also the perfect end to everything. I would totally come back!!!!

Went for a girl’s dinner and didn’t disappoint… great service and wine! The preparation for both dishes I got were very different than what I’m used to. Highly recommend getting the octopus… It has a spicy honey glaze (lightly fried?) that had a little of a kick but nothing crazy. I always love shishito peppers, these had a lot more on top than I’m use to but still yummy.

Legit one of the best seafood places in town! We went and had such a great experience. The waiter was super awesome and personal. Explained the menu and dishes very well. Food was incredible!! Great date night spot Things you should know: I. SERVICE Excellent, no complaints. Our waitress was very informative and let us take our time without feeling rushed. They incorporated thoughtful details into our experience that made the occasion feel well acknowledged. II. QUALITY We enjoyed every detail, including the complimentary savory hawaiian butter bread. III. CAPACITY We had to make reservations for the weekend in advance if that tells you anything about how trendy this place is.

I love this place. Have been at least a half a dozen times. They always have a nice oyster selection and a knowledgeable staff to help you pick and can’t beat their weekend oyster happy hour! The service is always on point whether you’re in the main dining area or in the cozy oyster bar area. Two of my faves are the Burger (fries need a little hep) and the Crab soup. The Optimist has never disappointed me.

Loved every bit of this restaurant! Went for my parents anniversary and it was a success. For starters we got the smoked oysters, crab soup & shrimp a la plancha. For dinner we got the red fish & whole founder. Then for dessert we got the apple pudding cake & coconut pie!! A plus is that since it was my parents anniversary the restaurant gave them 2 complementary champagne glasses.

Been here a few times now and the food is always excellent. It's on the pricier side but definitely worth it if you're celebrating or just having a nice dinner. I definitely recommend trying the Spanish Octopus and Hush Puppies and if you like oysters, they offer happy hour between the hours of 3-5pm I believe. Valet parking is $5 and I definitely recommend making reservations ahead of time.

We reserved a table in advance the day before. Note that cancelation not within 2 days equals $50 charge per person. Finished 1st appetizer before our drinks arrived. Oysters are spot on. We order 6 of no. 4 and 6 of no. 9 Waitress was very friendly and knew quite a bit about the menu and preparation. Ordered bottle of champagne $88 Which one glass ea was poured and told the rest would come on ice for us. It arrived as we were finishing our entree. We had it corked and bagged to go. The food... Basmati fried rice side dish noted it had egg. However, the gairly larger bowl of rice came with lumps of scrambled eggs. 3 eggs easy. Alot. Was chunks of fish. Was a dish on its own if you enjoy eggs. Duck fat poached swordfish served with pepperonata, duck confit, and lady peas. See image. Pepperonata is bell peppers cooked down in plenty of VOO. Generally, a red colored sauce. No peas visible. However, abundant duck confit. Which seemed more like a duck stew. I did not try it. I CUT the fish with a butter knife - zero evidence of any duck fat or poaching. No moisture within. Was like eating a porkloin that had been well overcooked. Extremely dry. Honestly, uneatable. Hated having to return it. My spouse noted that the scallops were perfectly cooked. And they were. Cripsy potatoes with saffron aioli tasted more like mustard. Rather than a saffron aioli made with mayo. Atmosphere was pleasant - Note somewhat loud if you were looking to have a romantic dinner. Truly, I had hoped it would be as good as the reviews. In the end, our tab was switched with a neighboring table and processed like so. Waited to have it corrected. Spent over 300 with tip.

Really small tables squished together you could literally hear conversations from all sides… crowded and just way too close for comfort. Service was slow just because of how busy they were but our server was attentive and gave really good recommendations. Food was excellent, ambience was not giving. If you’re going for vibes and aesthetics/good times, this is not it. I’d strictly for food, then this delivers. We went for Sunday dinner so I’m not sure if that had anything to do with it or if they’re always this busy and crowded..we couldn’t even have a proper conversation… but food was really good!

I went to The Optimist for my birthday yesterday and I had such an amazing experience. Our server, Andy, was so knowledgeable and guided us through the entire experience. His recommendations from oysters to entrees were superb. The oysters were the best I have ever had in Atlanta. And you definitely should not sleep on the she-crab soup, so delicious. Andy brought out our dessert with a candle in it for my birthday and a couple glasses of champagne as well. The food and atmosphere were incredible but the service really took the experience to another level. I cannot wait to return to The Optimist and now I see what all the hype is about.

The Atmosphere is warm, friendly and inviting. Service was really good. The waiter was attentive and patient. My "She crab soup" was Great, but unfortunately both my and my daughters dinner of Lobster 🦞 was tough and their hush puppies were sweet served with powdered sugar on top...... (not my cup of tea) Someone also got the burger and 3 others got different fish items. The burger tasted wonderful, and 2 out of 3 fish dinners were met with a thumbs up. For the price, about $500.00 for 6 people, I wish I could have said Everything was great 🤔 but, somehow, on a couple of the meals, it missed the mark! Indoor and outdoor seating. 2 bars. Clean, individual bathrooms.

The staff *chef's kiss* top notch. From the minute we walked through the door, to the moment we left, they were ALL super hospitable and gracious. The restaurant is taking covid seriously and I felt very comfortable dining here. The tables were well spaced and everyone is required to wear a mask. (When you're not at your table eating.)The food was, of course, excellent. I could eat at least 5 orders of the Whole Shrimp a la Plancha. Get it. The vibe was laid-back business casual. Not stuffy, but nice enough for an intimate date night.

The oysters are fresh and tasty, but my favorite must have every time is the GA whole shrimp with the toast. Yum! The sopping toast that comes with it to drink up all the New Orleans reminiscent sauce is to die for! The drinks are classy and clean. And the fish dip doesn't taste like it's from Kroger- they actually make in house crackers that are really good.

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. Came here for my mother's birthday and we love everything about this restaurant. We reserved an early spot on the list and were kindly greeted by the hostess even while they were still preparing for opening. As we were led to our table, we weren't expecting to be placed in the BEST spot in the entire restaurant! It was the table almost in the middle, back right of the kitchen and had the best view of the bar. We also had this feeling like there was no one around us, even though customers started to flood into the restaurant, they were placed around us. Like the restaurant was to ourselves for the night :) haha even a couple sat next us when we finished! Our waiter was incredibly top notch, from explaining everything about the menu (&how it works since it was our first time), checked on us from time to time, recommended my brother and dad a seafood dish (EVEN THOUGH THEY'RE NOT SEAFOOD LOVERS) and they ate everything on their plates! How crazy is that! FOOD - AMAZING DESSERT - AMAZING SERVICE - AMAZING COCKTAIL - AMAZING VIBE ON POINT WILL COME BACK? - YES Thank you so much for making this an incredible birthday experience for my mom! Can't wait to try out new dishes!

A top spot for quality seafood. The service was very helpful and welcoming. This place has a nice atmosphere. They have a lot of good reviews for a reason.

The food was delicious! We sat outside and felt safe and properly socially distanced. It was the perfect place to celebrate my father's 75th birthday!

Service was great. Rolls great! Drinks great. The main course for the price it was not worth it. I was expecting layers of flavor in the red fish it was just average. The lobster rolls ... didn't live up to the hype

Its always a great time whenever we get to make it out to The Optimist. Service is the best around, food is delicious, the oysters a dream! We went to celebrate our 10 year anniversary and felt very safe considering the pandemic. Tables were spread out, staff and guests alike had masks on (except when seated and eating). They were busy but not crowded. Happy to be able to provide them our patronage and support this tasty Atlanta staple.

Everything was wonderful! Everything we ate was amazing, delicious cocktails (First Frost- yum). Lovely, friendly service- we loved our waiter, Daniel. We could not have been happier with our meal. Look forward to going back!

Excellent food! The dinner rolls served to you at the start of the meal are amazing, and covered in was must be liquid gold butter. Had smoked fish dip for a starter which was delicious. For the entree I went with a Grouper, cooked perfectly. Fish is flown in daily and is super fresh, some of the freshest in ATL. Ambience was very nice with a relaxed vibe. Wife's birthday and they out a candle in the dessert which was a nice touch. Highly reccomend!

CJ was our server and he was more than incredible. Every dish I asked about was described perfectly, from aroma to taste. It's rare to find a server with so much knowledge of every dish and he was very honest about each, which really heightened the experience. It is expensive. However, the experience for me made up for it and every penny was worth it. The food was excellent. Not a flavor was missed. It was an an incredible experience for my tastebuds. The Hamachi, Shrimp a la plancha, and Red Fish I had for an entree were truly exquisite. It was all phenomenal. If seafood isn't your thing, I can't recommend the Optimist because it is a seafood restaurant. And they do it very well. I highly recommend this restaurant for those that want a truly exceptional seafood experience.

This place is really beautiful, but seemed really segregated inside. My date and I didnt appreciate being seated at the smallest table they had behind the bar. But we noticed it was us and 2 other couples like us in the same section, while "them" were seated inside at the larger tables. Seem real suspect i don't know, just didn't feel right.

Amazing spot for seafood. I loved the crab soup with its very special toast on the side. Oysters were super fresh and tasty. The green mussels were okay. The Spanish octopus was outstanding. The whole shell shrimp were savory. Would definitely come back to this place when back in town as it offers details that make it a unique and delicious experience

The service was super, Ryan greeter, Jon, server, and all helpers bringing the meal together! We had fabulous drinks made to order! Bread rolls absolutely delicious, soups hot and tasty! Our group ordered the " Refuge " and we were delighted by the spread and variety of seafood! A very strong signal that a Five Star Restaurant takes pride in having clean and well supplied individual Bathrooms! The manager on Sunday night was cordial and helpful with a pleasant thank you and asking how the evening events transpired! I specifically complimented the entire presentation of food, ambiance of decor, friendly servers, and over the top drinks!

Really great seafood and service. Brett was excellent. The raw oysters and roasted oysters were a favorite. The fish and fries you have to request not on dining menu. Definitely worth trying. There's also a happy hour raw oysters bar at half price.

😠 DONT WASTE YOUR TIME!! Terrible service! The server cannot remember what you ordered…it cannot be that hard to write it down. Friends waited for (Hennessy) drinks…at the same table for an hour and 15min. It took the bartender 3 tries….It took over an hour to get food even with a reservation. YOU CAN...
