We had Sunday dinner here and were not disappointed. Food was good we had the fried chicken and chicken fried chicken. The chicken was tender and moist. The Peppermill gravy was good. Macaroni and cheese was OK along with the whipped potatoes. Service was prompt and friendly. Nothing over the top here, just a good meal.

Great food and fast service. We dined very late and did not feel too rushed. Dined here again last Saturday evening - Derby Day. We had an enjoyable table wait in the bar with great drinks, Customer Service, and fellow drinkers. Whata race to observe!

A bit of Old School Atlanta continues. If you are from Atlanta, most likely you'll appreciate dining here. The bourbon and sling were refreshing. My Little Princess had calf liver, rice and gravy, and sweet potatoes. Having worked as a kid at Mary Mac's she missed the pecans and marshmallow toppings with a little more cinnamon as served there back in the day, otherwise the sweet potatoes were tasty. My catfish, rings, and caesar salad were perfect. Ms. Valerie. although very busy this evening was very helpful with a couple of requests and appropriately attentive during our dining experience. November update: Another great dining experience and a pleasure being served by Ms. Bria. Although the restaurant was very busy, our selections were very good and she took care of all diners most efficiently. But, y'all don't listen to me, I'm the last native Atlantan in this here town, so what do I know?

Haven't been to The Colonade? You've got to add it to your dining list. It's Atlanta's second oldest restaurant and a local landmark. Fried chicken is their signature dish and it is fantastic. We started with a Shrimp Cocktail, then delicious fried chicken and a plethora of southern sides. I had the Pear Salad and Baby Limas and my wife had Pickled Beets and a salad. The food is good ole southern comfort food. They get busy so be prepared to wait. They have a lounge where you can enjoy a drink while you wait. There's lots of history here including being featured in movies you would have seen. Stop in and enjoy a great meal!

My take out experience was subpar overall, I wouldn’t recommend. The turkey was not dry, but extremely flavorless and the sides were MINI versions of what they should be. I needed every condiment and additional sauce to add some type of flavor to the dish, but it was very bland ; $23 for a turkey platter with (2) mini sides, left me unimpressed. Mac and cheese serving 50% not filled. Pros: Their rolls and mini mac and cheese serving were amazing!

A great atmosphere for dinner. Feels like personal service, very attentive staff. Melvin took great care of us, and made sure we had everything we needed. Homemade biscuits and muffins were wonderful! Generous portions of food, and great flavor. Very fast service. Thank you for a fantastic meal.

Experienced the banquet hall with a set menu (see pictures). Service was wonderful but a little slow. Meal was home cooking. Nothing fancy but nice.

Great food and service. The fish dishes were great. The greens and black eyed peas tasted great, but very small portions. The mixed drinks are really good too. They don't accept American Express. No military discount. Almost 100 years in business. Almost like your mom's home cooking. I recommend this place if you're in the area.

10/10 would definitely recommend! The Colonnade is no frills, American comfort food. Everything we had was amazing. The fried chicken is seasoned just enough. No hot sauce needed to eat it. The drinks were strong and the strawberry shortcake has us fighting for the last spoon. What an unexpected surprise. I see why it’s been around so long. The diners are typically senior in age but that adds to the charm. I’ll be back for sure.

The Colonnade is excellent in every way; food, drinks, service and atmosphere. This restaurant is an Atlanta institution. I had the broiled scalps which were perfect. Everything was excellent! My waiter also made sure I had plenty to drink. I'm glad the bridge is fixed on Cheshire Bridge Rd. so I can start going more often.

The food was fantastic. But … when I walked in the door the first person I spoke to the male hostess. Was rude to me. Almost as though he didn’t want me there waiting for my takeout. He looked down on me like I was dirt. The woman that took my order was great . I wouldn’t have had to sit and wait if they would’ve answer the phone. Then the bartender was kinda rude too. Just short with me, even after I tipped her. And all I ordered was a beer. I believe that if you work in an environment like that you should be friendly to everyone. Not just a select few. It’s a shame, because the food was wonderful. But no body deserves to be treated like that. So five stars on the food. And two stars on the staff. And that’s only because two people were decent the one that took my order, and the lady from the kitchen that brought it out to me.

I’ve been here many times over the decades. The food is decent, but you can get better food of the same style elsewhere. Fried chicken? Mary Macs. Squash casserole (& most vegetables) again Mary Macs. Great food overall and in a competent, efficient, very friendly manner - OK Cafe. We were here for dinner this week - arrived before 8. Ron said a 45 minute wait and we decided to stay. An hour and a half later, we left. Should have left much earlier. They will gladly take your money for a cocktail as you wait at the bar but then you’ll be ignored. If you do get a table, ‘lucky you’ is the attitude. It’s not worth it. There are far better places in Atlanta that aren’t resting on their laurels, and who will treat you with more respect. Do yourselves a favor and dine elsewhere.

I was really looking forward to what I just knew would be a great meal. I've been in the past and it was great. Today was the opposite! The service was really good but the food was terrible. I had fried chicken, mashed potatoes, squash & black-eye peas. The chicken was overcooked and very dry. The potatoes were dry and stiff (not fluffy as the menu says). The squash was mushy & had a strange taste. They no longer have fried okra or cream corn. Overall a huge disappointment!

It was decent. The chicken was good (they make you get 4 pieces but guess who doesn’t have to cook the rest of the week) the alcoholic beverages are a GREAT SIZE the only “complaint” was the cornbread tasted like PURE SALT. It was absolutely inedible but I was told it’s usually better and the sides option was just ok. I had to search for veggies that were suitable (I had fried chicken so I didn’t want fried sides) and while I love tomatoes, I can truly slice my own at home. They were out of turnips and the collards contained pork. The dressing was STUFFING and was dry. But still it was decent.

Looks like a restaurant stuck in time, and taste like one too. If you are looking for some classic comfort dishes then you have come to the right place. Be sure to make sure they are in fact open when you do plan on going because the venue is constantly rented out by movie/tv productions for filming

The food was subpar. I remember it being really good, especially the fried chicken. This time, I had chicken livers for starters and the salmon croquettes. I wasn't impressed with either of those. As a side, I had beets (they were from the can) and sweet potato casserole...it had raisins in it 😫 I don't really care for cooked raisins. The door host is not that friendly, so I opted to eat at the bar. The bartender was much more pleasant.

Meh... food was okay but service was great. This place has a lot of history. It initially opened in the 1920’s ( I believe ) It seems to be a place where a lot of “regulars” frequent. I wasn’t “wowed” with the food but I don’t regret visiting to be a part of its history. The biscuits are incredible!! My favorite thing here we’re the biscuits!!

A true taste of the South and a piece of Atlanta history. The food is great try the fried green tomatoes. Staff is wonderful and I love the vintage decor. This place takes me back in time to my youth and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants some good southern cooking.

Atlanta staple that serves delicious southern fare. Melt in your mouth fried chicken, delicious liver and onions that reminded me of my mother's cooking. Great selection of sides, pretty good fried green tomatoes and friendly service. Portions are great for sharing and trying several items. Convenient to Buckhead and midtown happenings.

Greeted and seated within minutes. Server was prompt and efficient. Served beautiful biscuits and miniscule but delicious corn muffins- I am picky about bread. All of that was impressive enough...but! When the plates, overflowing with huge portions, was presented in front of us, we grew quiet and buck-eyed! Half of a chicken! Whole fish ( we had catfish & trout). The sides were nice portions which were tasty. Overall the meal was authenticly southern because my 89yo mom made no negative comments. I highly recommend this establishment which is posted as a must on many lists. Enjoy the memorabilia in the decor as well. BTW Long Island Ice Tea was GOOD 👍

  • 3/5 David L. 2 years ago on Google
Food is fair to acceptable. I've eaten a number of the dinner entrees presented and none were spectacular enough to warrant the price. The proteins tasted rather bland, as are the two kinds of available gravy. The sides were overcooked and rather canny. In fact I would swear that the mashed potatoes were at least in part if not whole powdered. Add the snarky and conceited behaviour of the host staff and it just goes to prove there is something about keeping your feet on the ground and not resting on your laurel's. Do yourself a favor. Don't buy the hype. I respect the length of time the Colonnade has existed and I am sure at one point it was everything it represents. Fresh ingredients and a little more imagination as well as a more open and less condescending customer relations policy could quite possibly make the experience worth the high cost of an awfully high opinion of themselves.

We went early on a Friday at 5:30 pm and were seated right away. I had the fried chicken, and it was delicious. The sides came out lukewarm. The BE peas were ok; the mac was just ok. It would help if it were hotter; the sweet potato souffle was grand, and my partner had the blackened snapper, and it was delicious. The service was excellent.

I've gone to the Colonnade two consecutive weeks and food was really good. The first time I had the half chicken with collards/mac the second I had the 4 piece fried chicken with sweet potato souffle and collards. Overall the food is really good, has flavor, comes out hot and you can tell it'd definitely cooked to order. The sweet tea is southern sweet and I love it! Service is good, I do believe that they need more servers but they provide good service and keep your glass full. The restaurant was a blast from the past. While many don't appreciate the old (maintained) charm, I do it makes you feel like you're taking a step back in time. I will be back!

Excellent in all ways. The restaurant was open promptly at 5pm. Wait staff was quick, accurate, and attentive. I ordered the fried chicken (mix of white and dark), the dressing with gravy, and mac 'n cheese. Everything was fantastic!! My waitress also made sure I had plenty to drink. I wanted to visit because the guys on stuff you should know podcast mentioned Colonnade had good GA fried chicken, and they were right! It was worth it for me to endure traffic to get there.

What a true Southern delight. All the dishes you are looking for - fried chicken, fried chicken livers, cucumber salad, collard greens, the list goes on. Plus amazing and strong cocktails. The bartender knows her stuff. Make the trip and enjoy a true Southern dinner. Leave the guilt from all the calories at home. Your waistline won't mind for one night. 😉

Food was great! Tasted like a home cooked meal. The fried chicken was delicious! Loved the old school vibe, reminded me of going out to dinner with my family when I was a kid and more restaurants were like this. This is a must go when in Atlanta!

TERRIBLE experience. Order was incorrect, portion sizes were small,1.5 tablespoons worth of gravy for a full filet of chicken fried chicken. We asked for corrections and they never corrected. At the end of our meal, we asked for a refund due to not getting what we ordered or the service we paid for and we were denied the refund. Staff was incredibly rude throughout the entire meal. I would not recommend and will not return to the restaurant.

Absolutely phenomenal service from a long-term employee! Even as busy as they were, we were seated within minutes. Most everyone at the table ordered the fried chicken and no one was disappointed in how great it tasted and how juicy it was. There were quite a few vegetables and side dishes to choose from. Everything served looked and tasted great. We will be going back soon to try out some of the other great sounding menu items. Oh yes, I have it on great authority, that the aspic was very well made!

Love the fried chicken snd veggies, love the customers and conversation. However, they need to renovate! 10 minutes after being seated my nise stared running nonstop. It is very musty, dust and mold I suspect. It made my dining exoerience rather unpleasant, which is a shame because the food us wonderful.

Great "meat and three" comfort food joint. No frills, but consistently good every time. Their bar is a great spot for pre-dinner cocktails, and the restaurant has been featured in several movies, which is interesting. Plenty of easy parking, and socially distant tables make it an easy, comfortable, and predictable destination for dinner.

Are you even from Atlanta if you have never had The Colonnade? In the picture, you will see the fired pork chops with fries and coleslaw on the side. My family went here for lunch on a Sunday to support The Colonnade as they started a GoFundMe page to raise 100K to maintain its operations. We arrived at 11:45, before opening, it was already packed in the waiting room. Come early and be prepared to wait!

COVID? What COVID 😐 Folks dining and working at this restaurant treat COVID like fake news. No social distancing. No closed tables. The hostess is not checking temps. I got there before the crowd, so I felt ok dining in. But by the time we left... 😵. I literally put my hands over my mask walking to the door! I get the community wants to save this landmark, but for some, this might be their last meal at The Colonnade. Zero COVID etiquette aside, the food is delicious and the service is top-tier (thank you, Jasmine!). Will go again...when it's warm and I can sit outside!

Great comfort food. Really good! Excellent old school service. Odd crowd right out of a Coen movie. Serious cocktails. Best fried chicken dinner, better than the Busy Bee or Mary Macs! IMHO. Welllll, maybe not better but surprisingly good.

  • 1/5 Barty C. 3 years ago on Google
The chicken was bland, dried out, no flavor. The sides were Horrible, mac n cheese, collard greens, rice and gravy, we threw them away. I don't understand how people say it's so good. I have lived in Georgia for 24 years and have yet to find any good and flavorful food. I will paraphrase The Sugarhill Gang's song. "Ever went over a restaurant house to eat and the food just ain't no good? I mean the macaroni's soggy, the greens are mushed, and the chicken tastes like wood". And then you look at your plate and your chicken's slowly rottin' into something that looks like cheese". I will never throw my money away at the place again.

The only thing holding this place back is a Liquor Bar no Johnnie Walker red they only had one kind of Scotch after that this is Atlanta we drink Scotch in Atlanta when I asked for a drink and I have to go to my fourth or fifth Choice that's not good an establishment of this caliber other than that this place is Stellar the food is spectacular the service is spectacular everything is spectacular about this place except for the choice of Liquors if you don't drink this is the place if you do drink you might want to consider calling ahead to see if they've got what you drink LOL

Stopped in to try the Fried Chicken having heard about it as being among the best in town. Found several good American classics... Chicken Tenders, Onion Rings, Mashed Potatoes & Gravy, Sweet Potato Souffle, and four pieces of fresh, hot, tender Fried Chicken. It's certainly in the Top 10 in Atlanta! The only negative... enough to affect my appetite... was the noticeable buildup of gunk on the table. The restaurant has been around for a long time and those tables are well-used but are absolutely in order for a good cleaning.
