It's not exactly clear (to me) where Herbert Taylor Park ends and the Daniel Johnson Nature Preserve begins. Regardless, the true gem in this network of trails is a sand bank "beach" along the creek. It's a great spot for dogs, kids (with supervision), AND their adults!

A comfortable and wonderful oasis in the middle of the city. There are a couple of places to park, some great trails, one phenomenal beach, with great shade and places for children to play. Some people bring their dogs here, which is great highly recommended!

I first visited this location in the winter and loved it. I returned in the summer and found that a lot of the paths are overgrown and there are bugs everywhere! I agree with the comments below that there are a lot of unleashed dogs, but I love dogs so don't have a big problem with that. I like the creek beach area. Not a bad place to stretch your legs.

It's never crowded, has great water features, and feels largely untouched. Great retreat for creatures of 2 or 4 legs

There are a lot of huge old trees here, including the 2005 Atlanta champion tree winner. It's a beautiful place for photos and not too difficult for very young children, and there are a lot of access points to the creek. In the summer it would be deeply shaded, and in fall there's probly a lot of mushrooms on the many fallen trees and branches and hillsides. It is VERY muddy whenever there are a few days of rain, but the mud & puddles don't get deeper than an inch so if you are careful you may not need boots. Accessibility: for the most part the trails are flat and wide, but there is no entrance that isn't steep, and the Daniel Johnson entrance has a stream-crossing with no bridge, while the Howard Taylor entrance has a bridge with two very steep steps.

Hidden gem in Morningside. Beautiful, quite park with many internationally recognized tree specimens and a Native American history going back thousands of years.

Our dog had a blast running from shore to shore in this park, and the scenery was breathtaking.

Amazing park this place is such a nice hidden gem. There are never too many people and the fact it is in a small valley makes it seem like you are surrounded deep in the woods. Amazing for having some alone nature time or meditation.

This used to be a favorite spot to walk. The city has been laying gravel and the machinery has rutted our trails. The trails are now rutted, muddy, and uneven. I miss our 'nature' park!!

I was really excited to find this little piece of forest in the city. I walk my dogs there and don't even mind how muddy it is. My real problem is the ridiculous amount of off leash dogs. Today I walked for maybe thirty minutes and was accosted by three unleashed dogs. One came barreling towards me and my dogs and i had to scream to startle it and its owner came after it. Another one the owner was with it but still it is very unsafe. The third dog had no identification and followed me home so I took him to animal control.

This is a City of Atlanta Nature Preserve and NOT a dog park. If you read the park rules you will know that all dogs are required to be on a leash. The neighborhood has met with the Parks Department and requested more aggressive policing of the off leash dogs to control the dog on people and dog on dog attacks. Please be a responsible dog owner and keep your dog on a leash or go to a designated dog park.
