For a sense of what modern-day Atlanta is really about you have to leave the comedy clubs and museums behind. A good place to start would be the city’s Fairlie-Poplar District, awash with buildings in a range of nineteenth- and twentieth-century architectural styles. Among them are the triangular flatiron building and the Healy building, the last major skyscraper constructed before the First World War. The district is home to a huge and diverse number of cafes and restaurants from where you can people watch. To the north, you’ll also find the SkyView Ferris Wheel, offering views across Atlanta and Centennial Olympic Park.

Very good place to visit. So many museums, historical sites and attractions. Not the safest place due to a lot of homeless people, but worth a visit.

Decent downtown area. Always be prepared for any and everything, panhandlers and rift raft. Lots of eateries and accessible to Marta.

This place should be a 5 ⭐ if Georgia authorities take care of the homeless issues around. The place is fantastic

This is a great area for lunch because their are so many restaurants here from Rosa's Pizza, Starbucks, Dave's Cheese steaks, smoothie King, etc. In the summer they have outdoor seating and live music. The four star is because of the trash around the area. At times trash cans line the sidewalk and the smell is horrible, otherwise the area has a great variety of food.

I was in the Fairlie-Poplar District to walk over to a nearby Georgia State University building. I always enjoy the culture, diversity, and vibrancy of the Fairlie-Poplar District. In my opinion, it is enjoyed best on foot.

Not a fan of the area. You have some decent restaurants but I necessarily don’t like walking around the midtown downtown atlanta area because there’s a strong problem of junkies, homeless people and lots of trash around this area. I don’t feel safe and there is a lot of areas that needs to be cleaned up in the midtown, downtown area.

There are quite a few eateries in the area. During the Georgia State University semester things can get busy around lunch times. On warm days it is nice to sit outside and listen to the music when outdoor performances happen on the Broad Street Boardwalk.

A couple of historic buildings remain here, but watch where you step: human solids and liquids are often to be found on streets and sidewalks, and around any corners or sheltered areas. When there are lots of GSU students around, it's pretty walkable but avoid the Woodruff Park area if you don't wish to encounter human waste products.

Great little place with an eccentric video playlist. Each day has it's own theme, which you have to expierence to fully understand. The bartender was engaging and fun. Small pool table in the basement that is somewhat neglected, but expected. Menu has some hidden gems. Jalapeno mozzarella sticks we're excellent.

It was DELICIOUS! The only issue is when ordering multiple sandwiches, they should be labeled and/or cut in two, three, or four sections.

There is no actual place to visit. A few stone markers and a metalwork sculpture. If you're into architecture, the buildings picturique. Before CO-VID they had Segway guided tours. Not sure it they still do those.

I went to Big Dave's for cheese steaks. They were great!!! The only exception was that when I got to the middle there wasn't much cheese. Other than that it was great. Just know that if you go down there you have to pay for parking exterior on Sunday.

The reason why I give a 5 stars! Popular is very dense with people, but everything is reachable at a walking distance: Hotels, food courts, subway the train stations, and busses are a valuable assets to this district. There is something for everyone. Above all it's very clean and safe.

I went worried of being alone here but fell in love with the variety of places and the attractions. It was very walkable, but the issue with the homeless is too much. Not even 30 minutes in the area, and like 5 (+1 leaving the marta station at the airport) people stopped me asking for stuff, I feel bad, but I don't trust too much.

  • 1/5 Jake 1 year ago on Google
Terrible experience the environment. The people ordering the homelessness. Just not a good look. Atlanta! And then the people that were sitting playing cards or playing chess. There was a lot of marijuana smoke being blown around just bad. Just bad. You guys should do better for the city of Atlanta. This area was terrible. Smell bad was just disgusting!

Seems to be where Atlanta's homeless stays. You get hassled for change, have to step over people on the sidewalks, bodily waste in the parking decks. I work here, no place for sight seeing

Just an all around different place, hard to park, and not terribly easy to shake the sense of the potential for negative things to occur... Not a place I want to go without a purpose and or business to conduct. Bring a TON of patience for parking and traffic woes..

Parking in this area will still get you a parking ticket, after arriving after the time it says on the parking sign, we still ended up getting a parking ticket and said that you can park in front of the sign but not behind it and we we're parked by the sign. Proceed with caution if you looking for parking in this area, best to uber or find a parking garage. Update: went to court for the parking ticket and they dismissed it due to poor quality of the photos the security officer submitted. Look out!
