The ruins of the mill are on the "Red Trail" in the Sweetwater Creek State Park. We are avid hikers and we're visiting the area. Had no idea what to expect and we're beyond pleasently surprised by what we found. The history of the mill can be read in the accompanying photos. The trail beyond the mill is more challenging but worth the effort. When it junctions with the white trail you may want to return on it for an easier hike...

Love this place, very beautiful spot! The sorrow that flows through here is unreal, however you can totally get a great hike in as well as a swim! Highly recommend to everyone!

This place is supremely big and most definitely fun! I absolutely highly recommend checking this place out, especially for a free and fun experience. The paths are very clear and the reservoir was very beautiful. We all had fun climbing to each dry rock in hopes of not slipping. The plants are also really cool to look at and climbing boulders all make the journey fun and memorable. Again, I highly recommend!

New Manchester Mill Ruins are located inside Sweetwater Creek State Park on the bank of the creek few minutes walk along a shaded trail from the Visitor Center which contain more historical information. The original mill was built by slaves in 1847 and destroyed by federal troops in 1864 during Civil War. It is worth visiting while you are in the beautiful park. Parking fee in the park is $5 per car, not person. Unless you have a Georgia State Parks yearly pass.

Major mid-level clothing and textile mill before the war. Built along with a shanty town in 1849 with moderate success. Water mill-powered, 5 stories, around 100 workers. Destroyed (burned) by Union infantry in 1864. Abandoned, never rebuilt.

So I have no idea how no one has mentioned this in all the reviews, but there's actually a police firing range in this park, so if you go, while it is quite accessible and beautiful, prepare for random gunshots to ring through the area. Not sure who thought placing it here was a good idea, but it's a thing and it's super annoying. No relaxation for you here as long as there's gunshots going off.

Located inside Sweetwater Creek State Park are the New Manchester Ruins. I had no idea this was here until a friend recommended it. Probably the biggest ruins I've come across so far and unfortunately, they are fenced off. But still well worth the visit and nice to see a piece of history preserved. It's about a mile walk from the visitor center and the trail is relatively easy. There is plenty of shade on a hot summer day and much vegetation to admire along the way. Trail maps are located at every major juncture to help guide you along the way. Lots of sizable rocks are spread across the river, perfect for relaxation or a suntan. Bring a swim suit if you plan to cool off.

Just past the ruins there's a staircase to the left, if you fet off the trail and venture to the left toward the front of the ruins this is what you'll see! We waded out to the rocks and sunbathed for hours.

The hikes leading up to the mill are awesome, and going past the mill the red path gets pretty tough. It was a really great day walking through the paths. The creek is really fun to watch and to get in once you need a break from the climbing. The water moves quick, but not enough to sweep you away. Highly recommend.

Please note that this is currently closed from the red trail and green trail entrance. I went in with one of the rangers on a tour. Do not trespass! Fee for the tour, like many of their tours, was $10. Learning the history of this mill was absolutely amazing. There's so much history and richness attached to this building, and the whole park in general. Even if you're unable to come see the mill, I highly recommend asking one of the rangers for some history on the building. In the event you'd like to see this building, head over to the yellow loop trail and stay along the riverside. There are a few spots where you can see the mill from the river. Bring binoculars!

Nice brick ruin. It is surrounded by fence so people can't get inside to preserve the ruin

This was a cool place to have a photoshoot with my new DJI Mavic 2 Pro drone. I enjoyed the entire trail. I took the white trail around. It was tough when I went up the brown trail, I ended up tripping over a skull while running up the steep hill. You should definitely visit sweet water creek park
