Was a spur of the moment last day in Georgia idea to go see the museum and I will say it was the best spur of the moment idea. Absolutely beautiful museum! My daughter loved walking in through the doors to the main center and seeing the dinosaurs on display. The upstairs kids interactive centers were great. The special armour exhibit was very interesting. And the outdoor forest area is breathtaking. Would highly recommend this as a stop on anyone's trip and will definitely be back next time we are in Georgia!

Fernbank Museum was great. I am so glad we added it on our list of things to do while in Atlanta. We spent about 2 hours in the museum. Staff were very helpful and friendly. The exhibits were great and informational. Unfortunately, we did not have time to see the movie screenings, however they did seem interesting. We loved walking through WildWoods and Fernbank Forest. It was very relaxing. I would recommend a visit for a relaxing family or solo day.

Step into the realm of wonder at the remarkable museum designed to captivate the hearts and minds of both children and adults alike. As I traversed throughout the of the Fernbank Science Museum, I was immersed in a world of scientific marvels and ecosystems waiting to be explored. The exhibits dedicated to Georgia's rich natural heritage and diverse ecosystems left a profound impression on me. From the majestic mountains to the coastal plains, each display painted a vivid picture of our state's ecological tapestry. One of the highlights of my visit was the interactive physics section, where science came alive in a delightful fusion of entertainment and education. Interactive exhibit experiments and engaging displays, visitors gain valuable insights into the fundamental principles that govern our universe. Stepping into the outdoor area, I was greeted by a wave of warmth characteristic of late July in Georgia. Despite the heat, the lush surroundings and meticulous landscaping provided a serene oasis, inviting visitors to linger and soak in the beauty of nature's bounty.

This is a great place to visit if you are in Atlanta. We would have gone a long time ago if I had heard of it then. Three different short movies 25-45 min are available with multiple viewing times. Right now, it’s Ireland (narrated by Liam Neeson, Mountains, and Dinosaurs Antarctica. We watched Mountains on the giant screen and it was great. There are about 2 miles worth of trails outside with a lot to see and tire out the kids. Adventure course for 9-13 age group and a Nature zone indoors for the younger kids. There is also a playground outside as well. Three floors of inside exhibits make for a lot to see. We were there for 3.5hrs and did not see everything outside by the time we left. The pricing seemed a bit expensive but once we saw how much there is to see it was more than worth it. Dinosaurs were a great thing for thee kids to see as well. My personal favorite was the knights area.

For two years old kids to eighty years plus elders, this wonderful museum has a lot to offer ...... for enjoyment, for learning, for acquiring knowledge in the areas of science, history, and anthropology. Provides an amazing platform to children to learn with experiments .... in fact, they are good for any age, provided one is wanting to learn. My three years old granddaughter thoroughly enjoyed... so did I and my entire family, and each one of us had learned something new as we came out of this beautiful museum. I think the entry ticket is very high... many, though wanting to visit, may not be able to afford it. A lower priced ticket would make it accessible to many more..... Just an honest suggestion. A must visit.

Really impressed with the quality of the museum. I'm pretty sure anyone can find some value from this venue. It's got all the history of course but interesting displays. The main atrium showcases a huge display of massive dinosaurs and reminds me of the the Smithsonian. There's a nice theater for some modern films talking about you guessed it, history. Kids have plenty of exhibits to take their attention. My favorite spot is the midevil exhibition that has a ton of armor, swords, and other interesting weapons. Outside has a nice trail that's great for kids and adults. The Cafe had a good pizza. Free parking was definitely a perk. We got the city pass for my family of 5 which was around $400. General admission comes with a free film at the large theater. Worth it. We watched the Ireland film. Really appreciated how the film showed how the youth is part of the solution not the problem.

This was a nice change from our other stops in Atlanta. I would suggest, anyone who enjoys visiting museums, stopping by for a few hours. There are walking trails outside where you can enjoy some original architecture and learn about all different parts of nature. There are Play areas for kids and a nice creek to enjoy. The museum is filled with taxidermy, live, and sculpture animals. There is a star room that is amazing, just make sure you wait for the sun to rise. There is an entire interactive area for learning about force. Young and old we all enjoyed the activities. Thank you for giving us a good experience to finish our trip.

This is truly a hidden gem of Atlanta!!!! This was our first time visiting as it was included with our CityPASS and we were NOT disappointed. The 3D movie was great and very informative about Blue Whales. The exhibits, while awesome and well done, was not the highlight for us. If you need an outdoor, easy hiking adventure then you need to check out the Fernwood Forest. It was easy to forget you are in the middle of a huge metropolitan city as you walk among towering trees. Please give it a shot!!!! You won’t be disappointed.

Amazing museum in the heart of Atlanta. My first time here even though I’ve lived in Atlanta for more than 2 years. I had no idea that Atlanta had such a cool museum. This place is very educational and family-friendly. I saw lots of parents take their kids here to learn more about biology, geography, history, culture, etc. As an adult, I enjoyed it as much as any other kids would. The museum offers a unique experience to learn more about dinosaurs particularly. They have real dinasours fossils that are hundreds of million years old. How cool is that??? Admission is $20 and adds-on for the theater is another $7. But it is totally worth it, considering you get to learn and have quality time with your family. I’ll take my family here back very soon.

I love this museum. There is always something interesting to experience for children and adults. My grandchildren had a fantastic time in the children's play area and loved seeing the dinosaur replica. My favorite part this visit was the tyrannosaurus display with the visual screens. There were 4 of us, we did not use a membership but I highly recommend that you purchase one.

Great place to spend the day immersed in nature and science with the family. Lots of hands on fun activities for kids of all ages. The nature trails are also good. And Dinosaur fossils and bones are impressive! They also have great imax movies as well!

Perfect for kids, best museum membership in Atlanta! We love it here And have been members on and off for 10 years. The IMAX is always amazing. Staff, almost always, friendly and helpful. It's the only museum I've never been followed around at and so we are thieves. I would never get another membership at the High Museum of Art because their security are trained to be blatantly racist against visitors and biased against families with special needs children. Fernbank is the complete opposite, they welcome families with special needs children and they make everyone feel at home.

Museums in general tend to be hit or miss, and sometimes it has nothing to do with the quality of the museum. Some people just don't like history the same way some people don't like math, science, etc. That being said... I love history, and I love science! This museum has something for the intersection of both of those interests. There are several prehistoric exhibits, some related to human history, some physics showcases, the evolution of ecosystems, the works. Now, are these things interesting to everyone? No, not at all. But that doesn't diminish the quality of the museum to those who *do* enjoy it. And quite frankly, I REALLY enjoyed it!

While it is good enough for kids to enjoy, I think it really helps to be an adult going in to learn to get the full experience of this museum. It’s a fantastic, gorgeous museum where every piece is worth reading about. I really enjoyed how most pieces had a little bit towards the bottom showcasing what an employee of the museum had to say about the specific piece on display. I ESPECIALLY loved the anthropological exhibit. Yes there’s a cafe for you to get a quick snack or coffee, and the trails out the back are also worth a visit. This museum is worth your time if you want to learn.

We were most impressed by the huge theater. We missed the 3D show but the 2D show was pretty impressive. The next best things were the dianasour skeletons and statues. Other exhibits were good as well. It was drizzling the day we visited but still went around the outdoor walkways with interesting art work and nature information. Had it been a clear day we would have spent more time outdoors. It also includes a kids rope bridge and maze. The kids indoor play area was pretty engaging too... The food court cafe has decent options. There were ample parking spaces available along with a dedicated drop off area.

This was the first time I have visited in roughly 25 years. Some of the information is rather dated but still interesting. The temporary exhibits are excellent for families. Highly interactive and fun for children. The outdoor section is an excellent addition and I hope to return on a warmer day.

Went to AGlow at Fernbank it was cool. I will say it wasn't exactly what I expected but I still enjoyed it. It was relaxing and pretty cool seeing all the lights and how the forest is transformed at night. I'm not sure how much it costs but I probably wouldn't want to spend over about $10 to $15 per person for it. It took us about 30 minutes to walk through the entire forest. We did not stop for long periods of time. We did not speed walk but we did walk at a normal pace not too slow not too fast .The children enjoyed it a little bit but I think younger children may enjoy it more and may be more excited about it we had a 12 and 13 year old. Overall if you're looking for something different to do it's not a bad place to visit for this event. Also, although it is out around Christmas it has nothing to do with Christmas and it is not Christmas lights.

The kids really enjoyed the Fantastic Forces room, the STEAM lab, & the play area. They liked looking through the other exhibits as well. Just to note, the elevator is small & slow so only use if needed & be patient. Thr Cafe was quick & had seating. Food was simple but not bad.

Overall, a great museum. We spent several hours there and truly enjoyed the exhibits. The items in the history of Georgia visit are a bit dated, but all of the other exhibits are fantastic. Just a few things I wish I had known before we went: The museum closes at 5pm but the Cafe closes at 3pm (but you don't notice those limited hours if the Cafe doors are propped open). So, if you are staying until closing, plan ahead for something to eat or drink. There is only one water/soda vending machine in the museum, and it was completely empty except for diet Coke. And unfortunately, you don't know it is empty until after you put your money in and start making a selection. The outdoor trails are beautiful; however, a "heads up" to parents with younger children. There are sections in the forest that are labeled "Copperhead Habitat" but you don't see the signs until you are right on top of them. I would advise not letting your kids get too far away from you. We did not see any Copperheads, but there really should be a warning about this BEFORE you get in that section of the forest (especially since most of the outdoor areas are geared towards children. And finally, be careful going down the steps inside the museum. The way they are colored/textured, they start to visually run together and it is very, very easy to misstep. Hopefully, none of that comes across as negative toward the museum--just some things I wish I had known beforehand. Again, the exhibits were great--definitely worth a visit.

I had an amazing time at this museum. It was much larger than I previously expected it to be and I had a great time going through every exhibit. It was very interesting to see the Christmas decor added for December. The Christmas trees from around the world was very cool and opened my eyes to some ingeniously designed trees. All the exhibits are well laid out and organized. If you plan to go, please allow at least an hour and a half to really enjoy everything this museum has to offer (including the trails out back!) Honestly this was one of the best museums I've been to in a while and I am very happy I stopped here.

The museum was wonderful. Great for all ages. There are several exhibits that are informative and interactive. The play area was a highlight for the young people but they also enjoyed learning about the natural history of the landscape and plant and animal life. We expected to spend about 3 hours and ended up staying all day. I advise setting aside a whole day for this museum. You can bring your own lunch or eat at the Cafe. There is a daily experience of interacting with live animals so be sure to make that a priority. Trails are lovely with a wonderful outdoor play area. Staff is helpful and friendly. Masks are required inside and I appreciate that guests are respectful of this.

Fernbank Museum is a special place with dinosaur fossils and detail information about natural history. Also, its playgroud is very special for children, with tree houses and games. The other nice thing about it is the garden and playground for children, it is very ceative and funny for them. It was a nice visiting for me and my daughter.

We were gifted a membership for this for Christmas and our boys have absolutely loved it! The museum is great, they love that you get to watch one of the presentations on the big screen, and they love the outdoor component as well. It's a great place to take kids, especially on the rainy day when you can't go outside!

We had a really great day, visiting the museum today! The dinosaurs were really cool, although we did expect to see a little more than we did. The kids activities are phenomenal as well as the parks and play areas. It’s totally for all ages and so well-maintained. The elevator was broken and they had us use the freak one and that was totally a disaster though. I ended up one arming our single stroller while holding my 11 month old and dragging my other two kids behind me because the freight took so long to walk to & wait for it to come down. All the employees we encountered were super nice, and that has been pretty rare for us to encounter here in Atlanta on our trip. Gift shop was cool, food was good & honestly priced really well. Yes, I would say definitely let people know more about the time of the movies starting and have some more employees walk around when you need help finding some thing. Other than that it was an incredible experience.

We went to AGLOW. It’s very unique and I felt like I was in a fairy forest. I never thought that different countries hang different/ cultural ornaments/ items on Christmas tree. Very nice touch on different cultures on Winter wonderland even. Kids will love this definitely.

I went for Fernbank after Dark and it was a bunch of fun. The staff was nice. The atmosphere was a good time. In the center was live music. If that was too loud for you then you could go into one of the side rooms and just sit. The place was clean and also there was plenty of room to walk around even though there were so many people.

My family spent almost the whole day in this museum. Children and adults enjoyed visiting this museum. There is parking near the museum. We arrived the day before holiday at about 11 am. The parking was full. We were lucky to find a free spot soon. Huge dinosaur skeletons are delight. Lots of information to read. There is a fun room with experiments & wonderful playroom for children on the third floor. In this room you can also see a live aligator and a snake There is also an outdoor playground. You can also walk along the paths behind the museum, but my daughter got scared when she saw a warning sign about snakes There is a cafe inside.

Lots for children to do here, and lots to exolore! The film on the Sea Loins was amazing! The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. My son had a small meltdown and one of the staffers was eager to help and got him calmed down in minutes! Kudos to him!

It is a great place to go with your child/ren.. with the ticket you purchase you will get to see one of the movies they are providing in a huge movie theater. Then you have different sections where your child can learn more about nature and animals. They also have a space where the children can play some experimental games. And finally the outside walk through the backside of the museum is the final nice experience you can finish tour day there.

Went here for the Wildwoods Aglow + Christmas tree exhibits in December. Super worth it for the price. Amazing outdoor light features in a self-paced walkthrough format & a short documentary (about fungi, in our case) that comes with the ticket. The Christmas tree exhibit was really interesting and cool. My only complaint was that some groups of people in the Aglow part were really loud despite the experience being intended as a quiet sensory one. Thankfully, it wasn’t super busy, so it was easy to wait for louder groups to pass. We will definitely return here for future exhibits when we’re in the area!

This museum is nice. Has 3 lvls of interesting themes and items from bird displays, children's area, 3d theater, dinosaur display and items, a Beautiful outdoor trail and sitting area, culture center, gift shop and more. Apparently, they have an after dark theme for adults that you may want to check out. Overall, it was a good experience.

We just attended the fernbank with our youngest grandson. It was nice by not being crowded. Booking by time slot on-line works! We went to the wildwood. As the hands on science center is still closed because of covid. My grandson is 18 months old and really enjoyed himself. The galaxy room was really disappointing. I have a better set-up at home. However, the rest of the rooms were done nicely. A staff member was very gracious on allowing my grandson to pet a turtle 🐢. He was so happy! It would be nice to have more dinosaurs and 🦕 . Do more of time lines associated with them and an area that children can pretend that they are on a architecture dig. The walk 🚶‍♂️ on the trail was nice, hot but it was shaded.

Very cool place. Fernbank was one of the attractions chosen to go with the City pass. My expectations weren't high but I was surprised! The place has several rooms with very interesting attractions, such as the beginning of life on earth, prehistoric and current artifacts, dinosaurs, and scientific experiments applied to everyday life. There is lots of fun for children both inside and outside the building. I recommend!

Loved this place ❤ Educational yet engaging! So many fun activities for the kids to take part in. The playground outside was small but nice to let the children run some energy off before getting back in the car. The food was affordable and convenient. The exhibits were awesome and had lots of artifacts for the kids to see and keep them interested for the most part. Nature quest was so unique and my kids loved it. So many little hidden surprises. Fantastic forces was a hit! The gift shop had a variety of items and not overpriced like most. 10/10 recommended if you're in the area!!

Great natural history museum which has a heavy emphasis on dinosaurs. We went to see the slowest creature exhibition and were memorized by the sloth. I was convinced it was animatronic with only the breathing evident. It eventually turned its head…. Great play resource areas for kids. Nice outdoor area. Never found a restaurant or snack area.

An interactive museum, with a wonderful architecture with a glass ceiling. It has 2 real dinosaurs, the biggest comes from Argentina. Every November there is an exposition of Christmas trees from all around the world. And the 3rd Friday of each month at night you have the Salsa Night. Yes! You can dance salsa with professionals on the feet of the dinosaurs. It has an outside space, interactive too. Perfect for kids.

The museum itself could use some updates and much better lighting throughout. Still a nice walk through. The little shell museum was very unique. Best part was the beautiful outdoor area with elevated scenic walkways through the woods plus a couple different play areas for the kids.

This was our first time coming to the Fernbank Museum and our kids had a blast! I had no idea there would be so many activities for little kids. Their favorite attraction was the outdoor Wildlife course with the rope tunnel and bridge. They also had a fun time at the outdoor playground and the quest room indoors. So, so glad we decided to visit on our Atlanta trip! First time here, and I'm already excited to go back. We were lucky enough to be able to visit during one of their specialty events: Wild Woods Aglow.

WildWoods: AGLOW at Fernbank Museum, definitely lived up to its hype and well worth the 90-minute drive to Atlanta. It was drizzling rain, but it added to the ambiance of it all. We walked through its interactive glowing forest after dark, enveloped with diverse sounds of the forests, meditative tones and radiating glowing lights that followed through with every step and action. My pictures and clips do not do it justice. It was an extraordinary way to finish up Ella's birthday weekend!

We were really impressed by how well our organized the Wildwoods exhibit is. It was very spacious and well built. Children were excited as soon as they saw it. Adults could also join in most of the fun. Great place to take photographs. It's nice and shaded so you don't get burnt by the sun. Surprisingly there weren't that many insects around. You do have to be careful during the time of covid because there's lots of people around and you get closer to them at this exhibit.

This place was great. There are tons of things to see, touch, read, and do. There were exhibits with dinosaurs and of the land in Georgia. There was also a fun new exhibit that showed color and gave a lot of information and activities surrounding color. There was also a movie theater, with short movies playing (25-45 minutes) but if you are going to watch one, you might want to get there early and get a seat in the back or you’ll be craning your neck just to see the whole screen the majority of the time. I understand that this was not something Fernbank could control, but my family sat behind these middle schoolers, a whole four buses of them the whole movie, and when I tell you they wouldn’t shut up for nothing, I mean it. I just wish their chaperones had said something but we were literally trying to watch the movie and they just kept talking insanely loud behind us. Also to mention, they have a cool outdoors thing, and a food place. My last complaint is that the penny machine you use to get a little souvenir usually operates off 2 quarters and one penny. All I was so insistent on getting one that I walked all the way out to our car, a good walk away, to get quarters, and when k came back I discovered that it is now not 51 cents, but a dollar, and it provides the penny for you. I was a bit upset about this, especially when we lost a whole dollar to it, because it didn’t work when we put the first dollar in. A fun hands on place for children. I’d recommend to tourists looking for something to do.

I was so surprised by how cool this place is. There are only a few exhibits on the inside of the building. The nature exhibit inside with the treehouse was a huge hit for my daughters. The outdoor Wildwood paths were great. The pathways are well maintained with multiple places to stop. The playground area was also a nice place to run off some extra energy. I would highly recommend this museum if you have small children.

The museum itself has some very interesting rotating exhibits. This time I saw the Viking exhibit and I was not disappointed. The grounds are beautiful, especially if you go at night when everything is lit up. Educational and fun.

This museum was amazing. The atmosphere inside was very relaxing. It was also a lot larger than we thought! There were many different areas inside and an entire forest path outside with a play area and a small waterfall for children to play. There were also games in the middle of the “forest” as well. Chess, checkers, hoola hoops, etc. definitely is a place worth visiting! We loved it.

It was expensive to get in… even for what it offered. It was very nice and very well laid out. The traveling Exhibits that were there did not interest me but I’m not rating this place badly because of the content. This place is spectacular.

My kids are 10 and 6 and they really enjoyed the day. The board walk through the woods was beautiful! My son loved the dinosaurs!

Beautiful nature preserve lots of ground to cover. Plan ahead 2 hours if you want to cover everything. Well placed sculptures throughout forest. Our walk throughout forest was fun, told ghost stories, playful game of killing Fernbank zombies.. 3D Movie ok. Small playground, tree house and waterfall very comforting on a hot sunny day after nature walk.

Came here for a wedding. The entrance to the grounds was beautiful! The dinosaur exhibits in the reception area were amazing to see. They were huge! We didn't have a chance to walk around the building, but hope to do some during our next visit to the area.

Outdoor walk area was good and peaceful. We didn’t have time to watch the videos since they were 45-min long and we only had 1.5 hrs to closing. Keep that in mind when planning a visit

It was our first time visiting here and our last. We went for the After Dark event and it was anything but grown. Several areas were off limits, the band they had played country music and rock. People started complaining because it was false advertising. Tje entire vibe was off. Big disappointment. We expected a casual, upscale event with jazz or something soft. Definitely not what we got.

My family and I stopped by on our way through town and intended to spend a few hours but we ended up staying the whole day because we loved it so much. If we were locals, we’d have a membership. Our son is 7 and he was enthralled by every exhibit, as were my husband and I. And the children’s play area was the best I’ve ever seen at any museum. It was huge, with SO much to do. My son spent about two hours in there playing with other children. There are two gift shops and we bought toys and trinkets at both. And the staff clearly loved their jobs and were happy and eager to engage with the guests and share their information. There were also live animals there and the enclosures were clean, and the animals seemed happy and well cared for. There were large, clean, and nice smelling bathrooms on every floor. And I noticed a clean area for nursing mothers with comfortable seating.
