Great hike! The views of the river and the hidden bamboo forest are your reward for suffering through the steep inclines & declines. As others said I wouldn’t recommend this hike when it’s raining or has recently rained (it can be quite muddy in sections of the trail). Hiking pools will help with stability for the inclines and declines. The trail is well marked but pay attention to the markers or you’ll get lost. The bamboo forest is between E16 and E 26. If you are short on time the fastest route there from the Indian trail head is to walk down the gravel road and enter the trail from the end point at E13 and from there hike to E21, E22, E23, E17, E16 to E26 and then double back. Come early on the weekends by 9:30am the lot was full, parking is $5 (paid online), they do tow cars out there and the road in and out is single lane traffic so watch for oncoming cars as you’re driving in and exiting. Enjoy!

This is a rocky hike but a pleasant spot to hang a hammock and get comfortable by the bamboo forest(which is spot E26 in the map). Also a good place to get in the river with your raft.

My family and I really enjoyed this experience. They are site maps at multiple points to keep you on track so they should not be much worry about getting lost.  There are many different types of sites and  terrain to keep you interested along your journey. If you just want to head to Bamboo Forest, it's more efficient to park at 28th and walk your way up to 26. If you'd like to do more walking you can park at 19, walk all the way down to 29 and then walk your way up to 26. My kids are under 10 years so I think it's something for all ages.  They were a few piggyback rides involved though :-) The Bamboo Forest itself is pretty small, but a very cool experience. Getting there seem like an achievement and it felt well worth it. Van accessible handicap parking available.

Great casual hike. Parking lot wasn’t completely full by 9am but was starting to get busy. There are maps at every fork in the trail which helped a lot and there’s many possible routes to take! You also get a pretty view of the river.

I love going there in the evenings. Cardinals are abundant at sunrise. It’s about 3.5 miles round trip without the loop. There are ample places to sit and rest if necessary. There are 2-3 playgrounds for children and 2-3 huge areas for field games. People allow their dogs to run without leash and it’s not allowed. There are rude people that don’t pick up dog poop. Rude rude rude. I take pictures of the perpetrators! There are PLENTY OF dog post to get those bags. Pick up after your dogs please!

PAY ATTENTION TO THE MARKERS! I wanted to take the scenic route so I went the long way (about 2.4 miles) partially along the river. Excellent scenery and going back I took the shorter route which is quicker. The road getting in is narrow, only wide enough for 1 vehicle at a time so be careful and parking is $5. These trails are not for amateurs and they are not flat ground. The bamboo forest is ALL THE WAY at the end (26) but worth it! I would recommend

This place would be 5 stars if they fixed the parking situation. It’s not even necessarily the lot sizes. It’s how narrow both roads into the lots are. The main lot (off of Indian Trail) is narrow and gravelly. Barely 2 cars can pass. The 2nd lot (Whitewater Creek) is about 7 mins away and although it’s paved, it’s still too narrow for cars coming both ways. We ended up parking on the street that leads into the whitewater creek parking lot. Other than that, it was a beautiful walk. From the Whitewater Creek lot to the bamboo forests, there are about 3 “steep inclines” along the route (if you don’t take the path along the river) so if you aren’t used to hiking, you may need to take a few breaks. The kids had no problem with them. The bamboo forest isn’t marked but its the furthest north trail along the river (the river trail from the whitewater creek lot did not go all the way to the bamboo forest. We took the non-river trail and followed the markers until we got to the bamboo forest). It was very pretty. Smaller than I thought it would be but worth the hike. Even though we didn’t take the river trail, there was still a lot of muddy areas (and it hadn’t rained for almost 2 weeks) so if you plan on going, I’d suggest some sort of waterproof shoe or shoes you don’t mind getting wet and muddy. Also there was no envelope collection site to put your money to park. The website wouldn’t let my friend checkout as a guest so she had to use another friends account.

Beautiful hike, close to the city, amazing views. This is truly an oasis close to down town Atlanta and Marietta! Highly recommend for a hike with kids, pets, or just to sneak into the woods for a while. The bamboo forest was really cool too! Get there early as parking is extremely limited

Great hiking trails with absolutely beautiful views of the Chattahoochee River. The trail can be a bit difficult for beginners but the views are absolutely worth it! Plus they've got a bamboo forest at the NW end of the park makes the hike worth it!

Really enjoyed this hike! Took my family for a day outside to enjoy nature. Careful parking. Parking is limited. Saw piles of broken glass. I took out my valuables and left the car unlocked. My advice, GO!

Beautiful trails, well maintained. No markers but each intersection has a map which makes it easy. Some incline/steps. Overall not super difficult. Easy to pick and choose which parts of the trail you want to hike.

Really pretty hike. The whole thing is a big loop, part of which goes along the Chattahoochee River. Lots of trees, lots of shade, and you get several openings out into the river. At the northern most point of the hike is the famous bamboo forest. Worth the extra hike, if only to see tall bamboo trees in Georgia 😜 Good amount of signage along the way, although I did have to stop a few folks to make sure I'm going in the right direction. No restrooms that I saw. Parking is a pain. On the East trail, I found only 2 lots and they were both full at 4pm on a Saturday. Came back Sunday morning, around 10:30am and that was ok although still almost full. There were signs with more parking available somewhere else but I didn't try to find it. The total loop is around 5 miles, including the in-and-out part that takes you to the bamboo forest. If you do some of the side paths, I'm sure it'll be longer.

The 20-minute drive to the park was worth every minute to get here. What an amazing place to walk, listen to Mother Nature, and have one goal: seeing the bamboo forest. It did take me a while to find the place; it took me about 2 hours to get there with lots of stops and taking my own time to discover this beautiful majestic park. My recommendation is to take your time, bring water and some snacks. I was wearing tennis shoes, but I would recommend hiking shoes for this trail. For the best experience, leave your headphones at home and greet people when you pass them with eye contact. Hello may be a tiny word, but we need to use it every time because it makes people acknowledge back with a smile, and I truly believe that being in nature is a kind of meditation to acknowledge people and let them know that 'I see you'. The parking area is very small. I recommend car pooling and the road going in and out is very narrow, so drive slowly and pay attention to people walking on the roadside. Now, to get to the Bamboo Forest, the fastest way is to follow the lake and go towards mark EP 16, and from there, it's only a 5-minute walk to the Bamboo Forest. It was worth every minute I spent there; nature has a way of giving us energy, reducing stress, and helping us appreciate life. During my hike, I even got to see a snake, but I paid more attention to the sounds of nature. Cheers, BN

Beautiful and relaxing hike 😌 Weekends are always full so highly recommended to go on weekdays because parking is limited. The walkway of the trials are narrow, so it’s a lot nicer when there are no crowds. The view is excellent and the Chattahoochee Bamboo Forest is beautiful. Follow the AllTrails map and it’ll take you in a loop and a slight 1 mile detour out of the loop takes you to the bamboo forest. In total, we walked for 5 miles and for 2.5 hours. There is limited parking, so Uber is recommended. There are also no restrooms.

Yeah this was my attempt at hiking. I thought this was going to be an easy hike. The trail was serene and peaceful. Surrounded around large lush tress. This is a great place to just walk and think take a break from the city and indulge in nature. I will say the trail starts off fairly easy but it gets steep and tricky the further you get. There was like a strange glowing glittery path I noticed. Even though it rained the day before the ground was still very solid and the mosquitoes weren't to bad in the area.

A lot of fun on a beautiful Memorial Day… My wife and I wanted to see a new trail and this one was a lot of fun. The parking situation & the 1-lane road to the parking lot is awful and can induce a panic attack but once you actually get started it’s a beautiful nature filled walk…

East Palisades is part of the Chattahoochee National Recreation Area. First things first: parking may be a bit difficult on weekends and/or pretty days. And the surrounding neighborhood forbids street parking because that's a privilege of having enough money to live there. At the Indian Trail location there is a one-way dirt road to the lot. And the park service has brilliantly placed rocks in spots you could otherwise pull over to let another car pass. There's a great bamboo forest at the end of trail. Very cool and worth a visit. Very dog friendly, especially during the summer.

Loved this trail. Lots of clear maps as markers and blue trail markers on trees. Mixed terrain with areas that are fairly strenuous and difficult. More blue markers on trees would be nice, but overall trails pretty clear to journey on.

This a great hike close to the city. It's basically a loop, but there a lot of side connecting trails you can take. I really enjoyed hiking to the top of the palisade and seeing the river through the trees. You get a decent amount of elevation gain, but don't expect any big views. DO NOT PARK AT THIS ADDRESS!!! There are other parking lots for the trails. It is a one lane, horrendously-upkept gravel road with no room to let the other direction of traffic through. It is not sedan friendly: my car got beat up on the bottom. People also park on the side of the road so they can be closer to the bamboo forest, and it makes it even harder.

Honestly This is a amazing place to come and relax if your in the city and you don’t want to drive an hour or so to the north Georgia mountains. I came here today to test out my new hammock as well ,as some camera equipment. Which I accomplished thankfully. There is a lot of nice people here when your looking around for this bamboo forest or just general directions. If you plan to stop by be aware that there are also no water stations ,or public restrooms on the trail. There will be Plenty of scenery to see as well as different trails to walk. One last thing ; I love that the trails are dog friendly but parking is kind of limited at the moment.

Great beautiful trail within the city of Atlanta. It is in very good shape and well maintained, very enjoyable experience with nature for a good walk or a short bike ride.. I accessed the trail at "Tanyard Creek Park" that it has a very small parking area for less than 10 cars. It looks like parking around is also limited.

Its very good place to be specially inside the city. Safe for bikers that don't have to worry about getting hit by other crazy cars on the road. The trail is long and good for walking or running as well as biking. Nice peaceful atmosphere and pretty quite as per now. Even though not too many people I never felt uncomfortable or anything. Never felt like I am in risk of getting robbed or such. It might be a little tricky to find a parking spot if you are driving there, even though you can find a free parking spot you might have to drive around a little to find one.

Pleasant walking / biking trail through the woods and beside the creek. One stretch along Northside Drive is out in the open (sunny) but most of the trail is wooded and shady. If you take your dog, there are limited water stops so be sure to bring water for the pooch

East Palisades Trail is a great walking/hiking trail not too far outside Atlanta. If you're looking for nice views, variety of scenery, and a good change in elevation to really get the heart rate up this is an excellent option. Definitely worth walking up to the North-Western area for the creeky areas and Bamboo Forest. Don't forget to stop at the Lookout area for a good view of the river forest. A few notes before you go: - Wait a few days after rain before going. The trails along the river get very muddy in certain areas almost taking up the entire width of the trail. - If you're coming with your pet, or have an aversion to dogs for whatever reason, be wary of other people letting their dogs walk around off-leash. It can be a little annoying, but most dogs I've encountered have been polite and well behaved. - Go during the Spring/Summer/Fall. Winter lacks the foliage and is brown and open. Kind of boring. - There are two parking areas where trails begin. I prefer the 'lower' lot and trail start as it doesn't need either a long uphill, or walking on the road, to get back to. Plus, it can take you alongside the river which is nice.

This is probably my new favor place to hike. The walk along the river is amazing the Bamboo forest is something every hiker will love. It is a moderate trail with some hills. You do need to watch your step as it is easy to trip over rocks or broken branches. If you plan taking the the whole hike I definitely would recommend being plenty of water with you.

This trail is super cool! There are different types of terrains and altitudes with canopy covering the trail. It’s also dog friendly and provides access to the river. Going up in altitude could be challenging after it had rained. Also it provides access to the bamboo forest .

Beautiful park but the terrain in some parts are not for 1st timers like myself. Paths are narrow and made of rocks/stones & tree roots. Its dog friendly, more unleashed than should have been. There are signs stating dogs must be on a leash, but no one out there to enforce it.

Beautiful trail close to the city, easy to get lost since no clear markings. Trail itself was good about 2.5 loop if you do the short one, it’s little steep on way back. Google direction were spot on. Entrance was little narrow and was not paved, was confusing but we kept going in till we found the trail and parking area.

Nice trail. Not too steep or rough for my hike. It took me an hour and 15 minutes to go from the trail head to the Bamboo forest. It was crowded when I was there - not on the trail but in the parking lot. Had to wait for a while before I could get a spot. I got lost a little on the way back but if you have Google map then you're fine. Just head for the parking lot by walk on your phone.

Lovely trail! We enjoyed it. Took the route to check out the bamboo forest as well! Super cool. At a fairly slow, easy pace, enjoying the sights it took us a few hours. Winds back and forth by the Hootch. Super pretty! Moderate hike has some recent inclines towards the tops of the "mountain". A big muddy at the time we went but very manageable. Lots of other hikers so we were glad we got there early. Lots of dogs too, some off leash. Entrance is $5.

Nice place for a day hike. This trailhead is at the top of the elevation so you can more easily access the overlook. Be aware that the parking is paid and it is offroad although groomed enough for cars to pass just fine. Tip for starting your hike is to walk back up the road and the trail starts to the left as marked.

Nice trail that you follow along the Chattahoochee River. Can become crowded at peak hours. The trail paths are narrow and can be difficult to pass others with dogs or children. Study the map in advance of your arrival so that you can plot out the time it takes to hike and view the Bamboo Forest then return to your car before dark.

Long story short we got lost for an hour and a half when taking a different way back to our cars. It was HOT, the bamboo was lovely but it was a nightmare getting down there. We were unprepared and exhausted by the end of it. My advice always keep sneakers in your car, lol socks and carry what with you. We didn't think it would take that long but we were wrong. It was beautiful. The people on the trail were helpful, there were cute puppies/dogs everywhere and it was an experience I'll never ever forget. Also make sure you carry cash it’s $5 for parking..

Lovely, peaceful hike. Very nice trail system that allows you to choose how long or short you want your hike to be and there are some good inclines. There are some muddy parts and passing over small streams that may have a heavier flow with more recent rain. Some areas are a little steep with roots and rocks, but nothing too challenging. Dogs are allowed on the trails, some were off leash but those that we encountered were under voice control and had no issue.

Beautiful part of trail... Too many people without masks and not social distancing. In one area (a large field) numerous dogs running off leash dispite leash ordance. All made it a bit uncomfortable.

I’m a fan of this trail. New to the area so I really like its convenience. Wide paved trails, it’s mostly tree covered so it’s shaded, feels safe. I did see this sign today though so be aware of your surroundings. This was on the Bobby Jones Golf course side adjacent to the neighborhood.

Super nice. Stumbled on it accidentally while running. Nice to get away from the road for a bit. Playing field and playground along the way and easy to get back up on Peachtree at the Amtrack station and get to other beltline.

What an amazing hike. Beautiful scenery and wide open trails. Took my dog and finished the loop in about an hour. The overlook was amazing and so worth seeing. We can't wait to go back. Parking can be dicey but worth it. Once I went and a park ranger shut it down because it was too crowded. I'm glad I came back. October 2021- came back and still loved it. An amazing park. I would suggest an SUV for the drive in.

Lovely trails with amazing spots to chill. The road to get here is a mix of a road and trail. The road is single lane. There are some spots to pull off. The better parking lot is Whitewater. These parking lots are connected via a trail.

This is a gorgeous trail throughout the year. I've been during warmer months and colder months; the experience is gorgeous year round. It's a really easy trail to trek and great for families. It runs along the Chattahoochee River and, depending on the specific path you take, will lead you into the bamboo forest. The trail is well marked with maps all along whichever route you take. I highly recommend it!

Absolutely beautiful trail. We'll maintained. Lots of up and down hill exercise. View of the river. Places to play in the water or float if that's what you're into.

One of my top five favorites for a weekday hike near Atlanta. It’s great on the weekends too, just a bit crowded. The bamboo forest is gorgeous, but not well labeled so just follow to the very end. There are some fun “unofficial” trails to beef up your hike, but even on just the sanctioned trails, your breath is guaranteed to be taken away at least once. I’ve seen loads of native wildflowers, trees, shrubs, and grasses. Sometimes I feel like I’m really in the mountains with nobody for miles around. Perfection!

It's going to be difficult to find the parking lot to get to the trail if you don't know where you're going so asking a local is going to be the best plan of action for that. It's definitely dog friendly, but I didn't like that so many people were walking and didn't have their pets on a leash. Your dog walking 10-30ft away from you anywhere in public other than a dog park is not proper etiquette where I'm from and it seems to be the culture on this trail. Not cool at all. The sights were amazingly beautiful. Loved the creek. We walked all the way to the bamboo forest, which I wished was more accessible and clearly labeled on the map. The hike all the way there from the parking lot was a treacherous 3.5+ miles. Please make sure you have proper footwear with ankle support for the journey. There's a bit of climbing up and down throughout the trek. I'll be sore for a while, but it was worth it 😉. Got some great pics ... Perhaps I'll share later.

Great hike, I recommend good shoes. Up to the Overlook is awesome. Down to the Chattahoochee is fun. Our dog loves the trail. It's about 3 miles for the middle loop

😐 Cute farm with lots of games and entertainment for kids, but at nearly $25 per person over 3 it’s quite pricey! Hot dogs are $6.50 and burgers $8! Corn maze pumpkins and mums in the fall, just be prepared to pay! Can’t feed or pet the farm animals either, torture for children

👍👍 I had only been here once or twice when I lived in Anderson as a kid, but now (25 years later) I was showing some friends around Anderson and went here to walk after lunch. I was very (positively) surprised about how clean, high quality and appealing the facilities are! I didn't have it that way in...
