Close to the city and never disappoints. The State Park is well maintained, with recent updates to the property. A nice place to enjoy solo or as a group. The trails are moderate, well marked, and hosts beautiful scenery regardless of the trail your on. Good walking/hiking shoes highly recommended. Don’t forget water and snacks! You could stay out there for hours enjoying the outdoors. The day use areas and lake are also cool places to enjoy. Check weather conditions before starting if it rained recently to make sure no portion of the trails are under water. Definitely recommended and we shall return!

What a nice place, many hiking trails and beautiful views of the river or the lake. Not too many people, dog friendly and plenty of parking. There are plenty of picnic tables, located all over the park and around the lake. Some trails are under repairs but rangers advised us to take the red trail to the yellow and it was very nice. We were able to enjoy the river, bridge and see the ruins on the other side of the river. Beautiful.....

The best camping trip I’ve had in a long time. The park is clean, the staff is friendly, and there is so much to do! Whether you’re coming for a day trip or camping for a week, you are guaranteed to enjoy every minute. I will definitely go back again and again!

This is a great state park located in close proximity to Atlanta. For just a $5 parking fee, you can take a car full of people out and enjoy a day in nature. Make sure to check out the ruins and spend some time by the water. The views are definitely worth the hike!

Nice place to visit very peaceful. There's areas to barbecue or have a picnic. Surrounded by beautiful lake trees and beautiful ducks floating in the water. Place to fish and also put small paddle boats, had a lovely experience. There also a charge it enter someone at the booth to collect the fee or you can put the fee in the box. Have a blessed day everyone 🙌

Sweetwater💦Creek🏞State Park🚣‍♀️is an amazing place to🗺🧭explore! Our family of 5👨‍👩‍👧‍👦stayed in a yurt🛖for the first time. It looks small on the outside but it's actually very😲spacious inside! FYI if you book the yurt during summer🔥it will be🥵hot during the day but it cools🌃🌙down at night.(no💨AC) The top activity to do is hike🚶‍♂️🥾⛰️on the Sweetwater trails. Many famous🏆movies🎬were filmed🎥there like: Infinity🦸‍♀️🦹‍♂️🦸‍♂️Wars, Hunger 🦹‍♀️🏹Games, and many more! The views🏞🌺🌲are breathtaking😍and very peaceful.😄Enjoy nature🐾🦫🐍🪶🦉🌾up close!

This state park is beautiful, and the trails are great. I love the white trail loop (going counterclockwise), and I also love the red trail loop, but it’s currently closed due to erosion. Overall, this is a great morning/day trip if you live close by. Our hike took around two hours, and we did a little over 5.5 miles. 10/10 recommend!

We stayed in a yurt at Sweetwater Creek for a couple of nights and we loved it. The park is just adorable. The hike to the ruins was really fun and the creek is fun. The only reason I gave it four stars is because the yurts didn’t have AC. The Ranger explained why they couldn’t put an AC in there, but they need to do something. We were miserably hot. And having no lake or place to swim to cool off didn’t help. Because you had to walk to the creek, and by the time you got to the yurt, you were sweating again. We loved the museum though and my kids loved the playgrounds they had. We’ll just be waiting for colder weather to go back!

This is a beautiful park in which the land here was once occupied by the Cherokee Indian Tribe. Lots to do and plenty of sightseeing and scenery. There are some benches throughout the yellow trail and plenty of large rocks to take a break or have a picnic along the creek. The creek keeps the temperature very comfortable. There's three trails, the yellow trail is our favorite& really isn't bad at all. I'm getting back into shape, took the path down the stairs & didn't find it very difficult, note that it is listed as moderate however. The passage becomes more narrow with more trees & shrubs once you move pass the water, but I saw women with babies in tow doing just fine. Just watch your footing & watch out for snakes. They also offer canoeing and fishing, we'll be back to try out.

Great park that’s only a short drive from the city. The grounds are clean and signage is pretty good. Park staff is pleasant and helpful. I went up to rent a kayak for a couple hours and was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to do the rental. Boats are in decent shape and there’s a small ramp for getting in and out of the water. No beach area, but there’s a nice shaded section with picnic tables and room for blankets or your own seating. If you’re looking for this area, go away from the main visitor center and follow the signs for the bait shop. This may be my new go-to spot to get out of the city!

Great place for some mushroom spotting! We walked the Yellow Trail for 2 hours. Lots of water to see. Nice hills. Beautiful lush scenery. The Visitor’s Center is a cool learning space for any age! It has a nice mix of nature and history of the area. Parking looked dicey when we left, so get there early.

The red trail is the most popular trail. However if you are a mountain hiker the yellow trail is for you. You won’t be sorry but please be careful and check out all the wonderful fungi species 🍄

I love this place! One of the nicest parks for a fun day outside with friends. So fun and a great way to spend time in nature. Trails: There are easy and hard trails available. They let you know before the trail difficulty changes. The trails are lovely and right by the water and some also go through the woods. There are lots of shade spots throughout the red trail. I took my two small dogs here, and they had a great time and the walk wasn't too hard for them. Facilities: There is a facility onsite for restrooms (composting toilets low on the ground, hand dryers, no paper towels), a small nature exhibit, and a gift shop with plenty of snacks. Swimming: You can also swim and hang out on the rapids, so bring a bathing suit or some water clothes. Customer Service: Lovely time, nice staff, will visit often. Safety Notes: If you don't want to roast in the heat come early morning or evening time and bring a lunch. Bring bug spray.

Stayed in tent spot 5. Uphill climb with all the gear. Many trips with wagon full. But so worth it. Beautiful lake view. Warm bathhouse. Temps got pretty cold overnight in November but had campfire going all week. Lots of hiking trails, variety of difficulty. Great experience.

The red and yellow trail are well marked and maintained. There are several spots to get into the water, making this a popular and slightly crowded spot on hot days. There is a small beach near the pedestrian bridge that wasn't very crowded. The visitor center had very clean facilities and a vending machine. Parking is $5.

One of the most loved, and traveled to state parks in Georgia no doubt. The place is absolutely beautiful. You need to come early or you will not have a decent parking spot. I would highly recommend before 9 AM. The visitor center is huge. The bathrooms are clean and spacious, and it looks like it has undergone a recent renovation. Do you want to take the red trail down to the river and see the ruins. Past the ruins the trail is very rough and not for children. The white trail is all woods and has a giant circle about 5 miles. We did see some snakes and other animals totally worth it. One of our favorite parks in Georgia .

We hiked a few trails, but if you come to see the old mill structure, call beforehand to make sure all the trails going to it are open. It's definitely a must-see!

Love, love, love going to this park last weekend. I only went for the hiking trail along Sweetwater Creek (Red Trail). Bathroom facilities were decent for composting toilets. Heed warning signs for trail (pic below) because the terrain changes from flat compacted soil with rocks and roots to sloped ground with boulders and roots. The views of the creek along the path are worth traversing it. I didn't spot a vending machine on the grounds so bring your hydration methods. *Note: The park was crowded enough for me to wear my mask during parts of the hike. (Limited social distancing)*

Always love coming to this park. I usually just go the same direction on the trail along the water. I never have finished the trail, always end up just enjoying the white water rapids and going back. Recently I took a different route and ended up getting a better experience hiking the 5 miles on the orange (red?) trail. It was scenic and a little challenging.

Went to the park and followed the yellow trail to the bridge and creek. A perfect distance for toddlers and the beach area was fun for them to play in! This park is dog friendly. With dogs all having been on leashes. There is a nice visitors center with a little museum with pachyderms. There are bathrooms with composting toilets! So, do not be alarmed! Of note, there is a police firing range on the land. So, if hearing gun fire will give you a start or make you uncomfortable, perhaps choose to not come to this park! There is a $5 CASH entry fee! There is an attendant who takes the funds at the entrance just before parking.

This is a Friends of Sweetwater Creek Candlelight Hike review! (As of 3/19/2022) You can find a calendar of guided hikes on Facebook. The tour cost 5 dollars a person (cash only), you must not have pets or children 5 and under. This is not an easy hike if you're not accustomed to the terrain or your mobility is limited. The pace of the hike is leisurely so not a sweatbreaking pace but it can be a challenge if you're not used to the activity or the terrain. That being said, this is a wonderful blend of nature and history combined. Our party of 4 adults and 3 kids enjoyed the experience! The mills after dark is a neat experience I'd recommend for tourists and locals alike!

A very well-staffed park. Excellent signage to direct you on where to go. We only took the Red Trail to see the Mill Ruins on a quick visit, but I do recommend that one for beginner hikers! The path is nicely packed and wide for comfort without much of a grade. I was a little disappointed in all the fencing around the ruins keeping you from getting a closer look, but I totally understand the purpose of it being there. The water was lovely and calming also. I would recommend this spot for a nice, relaxing afternoon in nature.

This park is so great. Mill ruin is pretty. The creek is so beautiful with so many rocks on its surface, you can hop on some of those. There is visitor center with a small museum displaying history of that place. You can see alot of taxidermy animals typically found in the area. Gift shop sells souvenirs like rocks, books, decoration, even plush animals. We got a beautiful bald eagle plush back pack and took a bunch of nice pictures with it.

They've done a lot with this park. The trails are nice and well maintained, and the visitor center is newer and informative. Lots of places to park to hike as well. My daughter got stung by a bee while we were there and the staff were awesome about it. Everyone eas helpful. It was really hot out and they had set up a water misting fan outside the visitor center, which was nice. Multiple accessible restrooms as well.

Sweetwater has nice walking trails and has a nice lake for fishing, boating, canoeing, and is great for a picnic. The parking fee is $5 with a daily pass. The park has clean restrooms. The boat ramp opens at 7am, and the bait shop opens at 8am.

I've been in Atlanta since August 1995 and have never visited this park. What a BEAUTY! A friend of mine and I decided to hike one of the trails this morning. We met at 6:15 and started our journey about 6:45. It was BEAUTIFUL. The quiet, the roaring river and the scenery. It was beautiful and with all the distress happening in the world, this was the BEST place too recenter my thoughts and to calm my spirit. When we completed it portion of the hike at about 8:00, the parking lot was nearly full. It's not such a hidden treasures so if you can get there early, do. The tranquility of the woods is well worth getting there early.

I love the yurt. It has no air but we brought 2 fans, a microwave, coolers, tarps, sheets, projector, and and extra table. We stayed in 6 across from the bathroom. The door had a price of wood on it and hit my son. The wood also had nails in it. My son is ok but what if that was some one with a little kid. Then the sleeper sofa it would not stay up unless I pushed it against the wall. I told them all of this so I hope they fix it. But me and my family love the yurt. The trail, and the bathroom was clean

it's good hiking spot. We got there about 8:40am, the parking lot was almost full, people were still keeping coming. Passing through the visitor center we started from the red trail to see the New Manchester Mill historic site, it was worth to take a look at the 1846 cotton mill. Then the red trail is merged with white trail, it's fun to hike along the creek. Even the name says it's creek, but at this moment, plenty of water makes it river. At turn of the trail, it becomes Jake's Lake, a lot of Persian Silk tree blossom with pink silk flowers along the lake. the first half is rocky, second half is flat. Total is about 5 miles.

This place is busy. It’s fun to go in the winter when no one is there. If so, just dress warmly! Either way, it is a BEAUTIFUL place. Along with Mount Yonah, this is my favorite place in Georgia so far, regarding nature. There’s also some relatively easy trails (I believe the one I did with my friend was 2 miles), but crossing the creek is fun enough too. You can pause on huge slabs and eat lunch in the middle of the creek if you wanted! Seriously, be careful though. There’s a few spots where the current can actually pose significant danger if you fell in.

Such beautiful scenery while you hike. Did the white trail which I do not recommend if you are seriously out of shape like myself lol. The red trail is much easier FYI. Plenty of small areas you can stop just to sit by the water and reflect on why you chose the white trail since you sit all day at a desk and decided to exercise one day. Would do this again, just pace yourself because as much as you beg, the rangers are not gonna put you on their backs to walk you out....the children passing by laughing at you don't help either 😂😂

How does the busiest park in the state reduce accommodations - especially for its Less Able guests?! We used to love this park... and the one star may seem unfair - but they've closed off and say they will not reopen the picnic/fishing area on the far side of the reservoir. It closed for a spillway repair, but I was informed it will not reopen. The failure of the park to offer physically limited guests an area to enjoy for themselves earned the one star rating. The park is great IF you are healthy and active. However, if you have limited mobility and need a bathroom nearby (such as my aging parents) you are no longer welcome. The now closed far side area had beautiful shade-trees and sat on the water with RRs, a small dock, benches, a large grassy area that was level enough to walk around, picnic tables, and even grills. We have even seen other guests in wheel chairs able to enjoy the water, trees, and freedom of movement in this spacious picnic area. There are other picnic areas, if you don't need a bathroom, if you don't want a view of the water, if you have no physical limitations. Other picnic areas at the park do not offer the multiple advantages of the now-closed area for those with limited mobility. The road-side pull-over picnic areas are completely unusable for the elderly. The picnic tables on the bait shop side sit mostly on a mostly sunny parking lot and are a more difficult walk to the bathroom and the ones near the visitors center lack the water view, are on uneven ground, and are a poor substitute for guests with limited mobility. Sweetwater Creek is the busiest park in the state - it needs the lost capacity of the now-closed reservoir picnic area - and its less physically able guest deserve an area they can enjoy!

This is a great find for us, didn’t know something like this even existed within 40 min drive from us. The red trial past the mill is actually quite difficult, but if a 5 year old can do it, anyone can do it. We took the red down and took the white back, and the white was actually a pretty easy hike. Next time we’ll bring some towels and water shoes so we can play in the creek.

The park is beautiful. They have color coded trails that guide hikers along the path. Follow the colors and you won't get lost. The markers are posted mostly on trees. The red trail is the beginner and the white is intermediate. There is a beautiful area to sit and catch a "glory" view. Some areas are steep and be careful as some of the stair and structures are very fragile. The park was very clean and there is a great visitor's center/museum so check it out.

Love it here. So many different trails available. Easy to hard. Pet friendly. The visitor center has some random displays and could use a little love but it’s charming in its own way. Bathrooms very clean. If you don’t feel like hiking you can chill at the lake. Be cool and don’t play your music too loud at the lake. Don’t use speakers on the hike trail. Keep your pup on a leash. It think it’s around 10 bucks to park. Year past is totally worth it at 50 (I might be wrong).

I found this park to stop by on our way to Douglasville. It was some great quiet time. There's a map on their site to help you navigate your way around. I'd suggest taking your own chairs or something to sit on. The benches are yucky if you're not trying to get dirty. I just went for some quiet time but they even have kayaks you can rent. I'd definitely return to do the trails.

Had a great winter hike with my family. Too bad the red trail was closed for maintenance so we could not get up close to the mill ruins. But we had a very fun hike over the bridge, up some hilly terrain, past a large cave, and back to the large creek with nice views of the mill.

I always love a good recreational state park but they are not renting watercraft during covid pandemic. I totally understand if they can't maintain the sanitation requirements but very disappointing as I was looking forward to good kayaking. This isn't clear on website. Noticed more people enjoying fishing instead.

You can choose from multiple trails, with a combination of difficulties. It's good for a day trip. The brochure says they have kayaking but I didn't see anyone kayak (the water level was too low perhaps?) But you can just get into the water and play around. It's a fun family or friends trip and even has geocaching!

What a great way to be welcomed to Atlanta, then a beautiful state park just outside of the city. I had gone here on the recommendation of my airbnb host, and it sure did not disappoint. It is a $5 entry fee, but it is going to preserve a wonderful piece of nature. I’m not familiar with the area, and when the map said “river walk” I figured it would be a nice meandering river with some cool views. Well I was wrong! The river walk is moderately challenging, but offers some great views and a little bit of climbing over rocks. About halfway along the path there is the remnants of a former mill, which gives a great segue to the history of the area and of course cool pictures. There are about three main areas of rapids, with the most spectacular being at the end with a rocky overlook. Great place to stop, grab some water and admire the beauty of nature. I took the hill path back (white markers) which gave a couple more views through the trees of the river and the far bank. The trails were well maintained and it was the perfect amount of hike that I was looking for. Hoping that I can make it back soon!

Beautiful place! You will be doing a lot of climbing if you choose to do the trail by the river. The path is kinda unsteady so you'll have to grab onto rocks etc. Saw tons of snakes (on the tree branches) and also in the water, one was eating a fish. Lots of pictures and adventures!

Sweetwater Creek is such a lovely place to visit! It's quiet, peaceful and has a ton of great photo opportunities! They have hiking trails for each experience level. If you pack a lunch, enjoy it on the creek rocks as you watch the water pass you by! Would highly recommend visiting!!

Beautiful park! Parents with toddlers follow the red trail it will take you to the old building/mil, turn around when you see the sign that the trail is getting harder to hike on. Its about 2 miles total, my 3 and 4 year old did great and LOVED it.

Great trails with public restrooms and properly indicated. For beginners to more experts this park really is for everyone. Has picnic tables and public restrooms. Also has a museum were you can learn a lot of the surrounding area. Be early, the closest parking spaces get taken super fast. $5 parking fee

Absolutely amazing views from this state park. The nature trails are great! I was so pleasantly surprised by this visit, it instantly became the highlight of my vacation. The only disappointing item of this trip was the fact that the ruins of the mill are closed to the public, was so excited to step foot in them.

Beautiful park but very busy! The trails are well- marked and maintained. Beware of the Red Trail - it is the most beautiful but definitely a challenge.

View wise, Tallulah Gorge State Park and Cloudland Canyon are a bit better. Trail wise, Sweetwater wins hands down for the red trail. Lots of fun.

Can't touch history unless you pay for it....ahh capitalism!!!! You can walk on the great wall of china Which is a little older than this mill but because of "safety" you are stuck looking through a black fence....same thing for the capital of this country...sad.

Second time being here for the same reason. Wife ran a trail race and she really likes this park. Looks like a part of Hunger Games was filmed here as well.

Great place to spend the day. Start early in the summer because all the trails have varying difficulty maneuvering. The warm muggy weather makes it difficult to breathe once it’s gets warm after noon. I was drenched in sweat It’s definitely not quiet as the local wildlife is noisy. We saw turtles, snakes, lots of mushrooms. I can’t wait to go back so I can get in the water. It gets busy and crowded on weekends. There is a mandatory parking fee as well.

We had a private picnic here. Great place to rewind. Has a big lake that is good sightseeing spot. Has picnic shelters with barbecue options available. For the parking fee, I recommend driving up to the visitor center instead of QR code

Amazing place. Just remember, the white trail is the longest one. Oh. We couldn’t see the mill. The trail leading to that area is shut down and based on park employees, that area will reopen back in January.

Such a wonderful park. Area is clean and family friendly. You can bring your paddle boards, kayaks, etc to get into the water, as well as rentals. You can also use the grills at the picnic tables. The park is huge and has many areas to set up and enjoy yourself.

We had our family reunion BBQ here. It's a beautiful park with a lot to do. There's a lake and hiking trails. There are bbq pits at each tent section. We had #6 and there were 4 tables with benches. If you have more than 40 people and plan to have food make sure to bring extra chairs. Really the only negative thing I can say is that there aren't any restrooms within walking distance so either don't drink alot of fluids or be prepared to let loose amongst the trees.

This place is breath taking! I’m not sure where to begin. I was hanging with family at this state park and I must say the pavilions are very well kept. I will have to say October is a really great time of year to have an outdoor event at this park. I hope I will get to visit again
