Nice park located in Winder, Georgia. The weather was great. Love the lake, yurts, campsites, paved walking paths and there’s plenty of running, walking, bike trails — a beach too. Boat ramps with adequate parking. Cottages are warm and cozy. Great place for a day trip or weekend getaway and lots of friendly folks…🏊🏽‍♀️🛶🚴🏾‍♀️🎣🚣‍♀️🏃🏾‍♀️🏖⛺️🛥🌞

Very nice park. There is a parking fee if you don't have a GA State Park pass. There are several different areas to get away from noise and enjoy nature. Park is kept very clean and maintained. Over 12 miles of trails for walking, trail running or mountain biking. Nice lake. There is also a beach area and pavilions you can rent.

Nice, well kept park with a lot of facilities—playgrounds, beaches, multiple restrooms, bike repair station. Parking is $5. The loop trail around the park is 7 miles. Long but fairly easy as it’s mostly flat. The trail could be marked better, though. Also, it would be nice to have another small bridge somewhere in the middle of the lake to shorten the hike in case someone gets too tired.

Such a beautiful park! Plenty of trails to hike and jog. Tons of accessible shoreline for fishing and paddling (kayak, canoe, SUP, etc). The beach is a fun spot to hang out and grill with family and friends and just launch your exploration of the park! Very well kept and maintained! Totally will be going back!!

Love walking the trails here! Recently we finally went camping for the first time ever!! We had a tent campsite right on the water #41 We loved using the fire pit and sitting by the water in the morning. There is always a posse of ducks that comes by (about 6 of them, led by a white duck) that will come over if you have snacks. Make sure it is ONLY fruit and seeds though, NO bread or popcorn!! It hurts the birds' tummy :( We loved our campsite & the host was also super friendly! Our only issue was that the bathroom building needs a SERIOUS upgrade. Only 2 stalls for almost 10 campsites to use, 1 big stall that is a shower + toilet + sink. Would be better if they were like the bathrooms at the RV sites, multi-stall bathroom with multiple sinks and 2 stalls for showers! Other than that, the stay was nice & peaceful! We will be back to camp!

Very clean. Mini golf and geo cache available. Kayaking and fishing. We stayed in the yurt. It was clean and right by the restrooms which were also well kept. Camp host was on top of making sure campers felt welcome and informed.

Wonderful natural State Park. We volunteered during the "State Park day" and did cleaning for a playground area. This park is very picturesque and features a beach. Like all state parks there's a $5 parking fee and it's well worth it. The visitor Center looks brand new in modern featuring a gift shop. The best thing about this park is the people including park ranger Aiden. He planned our event successfully and was very helpful in coordinating the resources. There is everything you would want featured at this park.

Very nice, clean park! The beach, the yurts, the cabins all looked really nice. The park office is nice. Every bridge we crossed on foot seemed to be brand new or just super well maintained. We played disc golf and would go back and do it again. It was a fun wooded course. A lot of ups, downs and curves to throw around. A little thorny if you get off the course. Overall, we will definitely go back.

Rode the mountain bike trails. Very very lucky as all of the trail was swept clean of leaves and pine needles ( found out a race was going to be held). Nice area and a good trail. The fact that the trail was cleaned for us made it awesome!

Fort Yargo is one of our favorite places to go camping! We book a week long trip each year. We loved the various activities offered: hiking, biking, kayaking, and disc golf. The camp sites are great and we have never had any issues. They also offer primitive sites, yurts, and cabins.

Visited for girl scout camp and was very pleased. Never knew how close this was to me. Plenty of camp sites, rv parking and trails for mountain biking and walking/running. The cabins were excellent they were warm and cozy and had all amenities and more that a hotel room has. Our family will definitely be back.

Fort Yargo was such a nice little park to visit. We stayed in a yurt for two nights and they were amazing. They were right on the lake and had AC. We’ve stayed in yurts at Tugaloo, and Sweetwater Creek and these are the best because of their location on the lake and the ac. Waking up and sitting on your porch over the lake was nothing short of breath taking, especially because we watched baby turtles swim by. There’s so much to do also. My kids got to swim, play putt putt, and there was a playground. There was some hiking trails, nice and paved and the fort was really cool. The gift shop was very nice and well stocked. We didn’t get to do it but there was also kayaking and boat rentals. The only downside with the yurts was you had to carry your stuff a bit of a ways to get to your yurt. You all share one parking lot and then the yurts are all together in a village that you walk into. Each yurt had its own wagon though, which was helpful.

I love this place so much. My new jogging spot! Come here every day and enjoy the beautiful views and all the great nature trails. There is a lot to do and the new setup is much easier and nicer. Lots of wildlife and plants to see and very helpful staff

Yurts are as described & comfy. Be sure to check carefully for dog-friendly options as the trails are a dog haven. Inner loop is a comfortable, connected walk through all park attractions and hugs the lake for a variety of views. Even a light rain won't slow you down.

Did a Dirty Spokes trail race there for the past 2 Decembers. Trails are great and well maintained. If u want to challenge yourself with running or cycling, Yargo is the place to go.

We just came back from Fort Yargo, what a beautiful state park! We stayed in one of the cabins and it was absolutely lovely, very modern and we loved the big screened in porch overlooking the lake. The beach was pretty crowded but a nice sandy beach nonetheless! Bummer that because of Covid you can’t rent boats or Golf clubs for the mini golf although I think you can bring your own for mini golf and bring your own boats. The bike trails looked amazing and when it gets cooler I would love to come back to hike! I would highly recommend this park to any one!

I personally love Fort Yargo. It is one of the best places to take your kids or family. We just spent three days there camping and it wasn’t bad. People were nice. It was really quiet. Fishing is good for the younger kids. Plenty of bluegill and sunfish for them to catch. It’s a little harder unless you have a boat and you can fish the less fish areas for adults, I love Fort Yargo, though one of my favorite places to go escape from reality for a little while. The swimming area is also super fun for your kids and family as well. Pretty well-kept up the people in charge of it could be a little nicer sometimes, but they just try to do their jobs overall love fort yargo highly recommend for families.

What an amazing place to take the kids. Not only do you have historical sites. Beautiful walking trails. Amazing cabins. Pet friendly areas. And a gorgeous beach to play with the kids on the lake. Highly recommend this place for the weekend

What an absolutely beautiful lake, landscape, trails, and so much more. Grab a picnic basket and make plans to go and visit this treasure as soon as you can. We can't wait to book one of their famous camping yurts and go spend an entire weekend. We hiked the loop all the way around the lake. It took a little effort but I could not think of a better way to spend a perfect spring Sunday.

State Parks are wonderful! Especially for camping and glamping. It's so rejuvenating to be amongst nature, allowing yourself to unwind, relax, and be a part of it just by being in it. The cabins at Fort Yargo are nicely fitted, 2 bedrooms on opposite sides of the place with a pullout sofa. The naturalist ranger, Jenna, was warm, pleasant, and informative. And they have lots of activities for children and adults. The only reason they didn't get 5 stars is because the cabins are surface cleaned. This isn't just Fort Yargo, but it seems like all the Georgia State Park cabins we visit. Perhaps the rangers are cleaning the place and they certainly didn't go through school/ training for that - no shade. A cleaning crew would certainly be of great use, especially during these times.

A very nice state park. Probably the best that the wife and I have been to over the last 6 weeks. We have decided to go to one state park a week until we visit all of the state parks in Georgia. This park has it all. A beach RV camping, primitive camping cabins to rent and it even has a yurt if you want to rent a yurt as well. Several pavilions dozens of picnic tables and a large concession area with a very large covered pavilion next to the concession area. This park looks like it has a lot of visitors in the summertime. There are canoes available as well as paddle boats. The swimming activities are no lifeguard at this time and the boats that can be used are closed for the season. There are also plenty of trails and such for those that like to do that. This is a dog friendly park. The visitor center is very nice in the staff are very pleasant to work with.

Very pretty park. 2 small campgrounds, sites to #12 in campground 1 right on the water. Sites are wide, grounds well maintained, trails well marked.

The park is clean for the traffic it gets. There is lots of wildlife on the trails. One trail is along the water with several benches to sit and enjoy the view. There is usually plenty of parking before 10am. $5 for single car to enter. It is a beautiful, inexpensive outing. Plenty of room for kids to games also.

Awesome! Love it! Hike, bike, walk, run, swim, fish, camp. Cottages, Yurts, RV sites or tents! State park so $5, or buy the annual pass if you plan on visiting others.

One of the best GA State Parks. My second time staying with the family in the cabins and as always a wonderful experience. I'm sharing pics from the ADA cabins so you can have a better idea of how they look and how accessible they are. Fully renovated, super clean, ADA up to code, screened porch with picnic table and rocking chairs and amazing views to the lake. Just bring the food, drinks and you are all set. Kayak rentals(only weekends) for $10/hour and the rental staff are amazing. I definitely recommend this outdoor activity in the lake. Top notch park!

Cabins clean and cozy next to the lake. Treetop broke off across the trail/road and they had it cleared within two hours of notification. Never did figure out when the boat rentals were open. Clean, cozy, well kept up park.

Fort Yargo State Park has different hike trails to chose from. We did the orange and part of the yellow trails back and for around 3.5 milles. If you want to do the yellow trail it will take you around 3.5 to 4 hours a total of 7 milles according to the website. There is a small beach with parking, restrooms and picnic area. The trail is easy to walk and it is safe to go around the park, main entrance cost is five dollars.

  • 5/5 Paige M. 10 months ago on Google
Got a good 3 miles in today. This state park is comparable to Deviles lake in Wisconsin. Crazy busy and a lot to offer. I'm really starting to like Georgia each day. This is a park we would love to come back too and camp.

  • 5/5 Britt H. 10 months ago on Google
Our first visit to this state park - we’ll definitely be back! The main access building is lovely with clean restrooms, info about all the activities, and even affordable snacks. We enjoyed the mountain biking (only 4 rental bikes available right now, so get there early or bring your own). Helmets are included. Be sure to bring your ID for any rentals. The mini golf course was better than expected - creative hope architecture and only $5/player. The colonial building was also a fun attraction to see. Unfortunately, the water activities (paddle boarding, kayak rental) wasn’t available the day we went, but we didn’t know because there wasn’t a sign on the door. For the future, I’d recommend a sign be posted if an activity is not available. Overall, 5/5 and we’ll recommend this location to friends! Affordable, family fun in North GA.

Went to Ft. Yargo State Park to hike. As we walked past campsites and the yurts, they looked very nice. The hike we took was about 7 miles and did follow the lake in areas. There's also a separate trail for mountain biking. Some construction is happening right now, but a bridge that crosses the lake looks almost complete (03/23).

With Yargos rich history and open views, it would be quite the challenge to not find a beautiful spot that takes your breath away. I would highly recommend you get a state parks pass if you come here. Plenty of opportunities for family and friends.

Visiting my daughter & her family all the way from Arizona.... And this gem is 10 mins from her house. Literally it is half woods and half lake. Such beautiful scenery while you play in the lake. It was a bit busy, cuz it was Labor Day, but we had a fantastic day!!! Everyone was so very nice and respectful to each other!! I highly recommend this spot to have a family day!!

Book a yurt for a night to see how things would be, wow very serene and pleasant. Just make sure you bring your own bedding. The futon mattresses may not accommodate how comfortable you want to be.

  • 5/5 Lyn J. 6 months ago on Google
Staying in a yurt at Fort Yargo was a great experience. You get the feel of camping from cooking outside and walking to the restrooms, with the comfort of heat/air and beds. Small refrigerators would be beneficial. The view of the lake from yurt #6 was gorgeous.

Really nice state park. Campsites are close to the lake. The bath house was clean. Visitor's center is nice. We didn't like sharing the hiking trail with cyclists as they sometimes didn't alert us they were coming. I think it's dangerous.

Love this park! there's so much to do for the whole family. even now this time of year you can hike & visit the water. there are camp sites for tents, rvs, you can also rent a cabin or a yurt. there's also canoes & paddle boats to rent. trails on every site, whether you choose the yurts, cabins or rv side. each picnic spot has more trails to explore & one trail leads you from the turtles that rest on the logs during warm months to the beach.

They have really turned this park around, from what it used to be. Lots of new updates and upgrades to all the facilities. Tons of bike trails. Lots of water access for fishing and kayaks. The campgrounds are well maintained, as well. The only downside for me is how popular this park has become. Lots of people everywhere. If you are looking for solitude, this is not the place.

We stayed in Campground 1 for a week. The hosts were great. The sites are nicely spaced to provide privacy. The boat rentals were closed at the time, which was a bummer, however we still enjoyed ourselves.

  • 4/5 Robert D. 3 years ago on Google
Fort Yargo State Park is crowded these days. Lots of golks are biking the trails, boating, or hiking. There are seem to be a lot of special events. What balances that out is that the park has recently added a new visitors center and reworked some trails. We thought that motor boats were verboten, but it turns out engines of less than 10 horse power are permitted. Still, the wild life is epic, the trails are good and they support Camp Twin Lakes. Wheelchair accessibility is possible and there is parking.

  • 4/5 Darlene D. 3 years ago on Google
Really enjoyed the yellow trail which loops around the lake. A tad disappointed that cyclists don't heed the way or yield to hikers as posted on the trails. Otherwise, this was a fun adventure for the day.

The atmosphere and the area are amazing. Camped here and the views are breathtaking. We rented a tent space and it was clean and friendly, also had a built in pit. Fished, hiked and went the beach.

  • 5/5 Lewis S. 3 years ago on Google
Other than the long ride into our campsite around the far reaches of the lake, everything else met our expectations. Our motorhome campsite was level, the price was expected, about $35. You can see the lake from our site and it was a pleasant walk down to it. The shower house was nice even though I had trouble figuring out the control and you had to let the water run a while.

The camp sites are all close together and tight for big rigs. The campground has amazing biking, hiking trails, lots of woods and a lake. Beautiful scenery. It is a great park. I would love to see this campground make more campsites available with larger sites and more area to accommodate big RVs in some of the available land they own. Cleaner restrooms and shower areas.
