Of all the state capitols I’ve been to, this one is certainly the best by time spent and things to see. Georgia has had a very long and storied history, and I say regardless of modern day politics and virtues, they have done a good job of preserving icons and memorials and monuments from the past, unlike for example my home state of Virginia. It took them a while, but indeed having a son as remarkable as Dr. King, Jr., Georgia has helped to modernize whilst still respecting its past- it isn’t like Georgia had many reasons to reconcile with the North after what it and Sherman did to it. The grounds are extremely well-manicured (as a horticulturist myself), and the inside has many relics and such from Georgia’s natural and anthropological history as well. Well-worth a visit, pity about the riot fence, but just walk around it. Cheers.

While slightly amusing to see the daughters of the confederacy's spin on history, I think it's actually more harmful than good to keep those types of monuments and plaques up without the true context and actual descriptions of the horrors of the Civil War. Valor and courage may be honored on both sides of that conflict without whitewashing or straight up erasing history. There's a mildly amusing collection of taxidermy and it's nice to see the representatives in action. Less encouraging to see the number of unmasked individuals in the building despite the signs throughout the building saying "No Mask, No Entry". Overall, more disappointing to visit than the Providence, RI state capitol building which is built using Georgian marble....a little tilting to see that Georgia decided not to splurge on Georgian materials and ended up having an Indiana limestone building instead.

Absolutely beautiful building! The outer dome is beautiful, and inside is quite sophisticated. The interior rotunda and rooms give off very southern manor vibes. The tall columns, crown molding, and marble staircases are quite stately.

State police are absolute trash! Nothing but power hungry, egomaniacal TYRANTS! I know you're all sociopaths so you don't care about what WE THE PEOPLE think about you, but you are all trash and don't deserve a badge and a costume. I know there are alot of bootlicking "conservatives" who will disagree, but that is the people's building not yours! Without the people there is no government, REMEMBER THAT!

This building has nice architectural qualities, but don’t expect to experience any form of “Southern Hospitality.” Half of the museum and House of Representatives Gallery were inexplicably closed. The capitol only offers tours for groups of 15+. If you’re a couple (like we were), it’s a self guided tour with no directions or staff to get you started. While there, we were treated like we were trespassing when we were trying to read the plaques on the museum level or view the paintings in the rotunda. We’ve visited about 20 state capitols and this is the first one where I felt unwelcome.

It is one of the most beautiful buildings in Atlanta. Visited with family and friends during our recent visit to Atlanta. Immaculately maintained building, as well as the surrounding park. It was a wonderful experience to go through the museum,ñ with an insight into the history of Georgia. Some portions were closed due to renovation. Added attraction was visiting the Senate and House Galleries, which are open for public on specific days and time. There is no entree fee. A must visit.

My first visit to the Georgia Capitol Building was on a beautiful day, to honor, and pay respects to one of the original "Freedom Riders", who were integral in the fight for Civil Rights in the United States. John R. Lewis. "The Boy from Troy", a Son of the South whose fight for equality fortunately and sadly never ended.

Just watched a video of the troopers/security at the state capital and I'm soooo sad. They were power tripping, unprofessional, condescending and had no knowledge or chose to ignore and violate citizens constitutional rights. They are apparently feelings enforcers. It's a SAD day when the government we fund treat us like enemies just because...

Completely free but not a lot to do. The architecture was very pretty to admire and they have some exhibits mostly on the 4th floor. One of the wings was under construction making nearly half of the building inaccessible despite that there were still some interesting artifacts and displays. There is no official museum entrance or anything you just walk around the building to find the public entrance, go through security and then essentialy can just wander around the building all for free.

Tbh one of the better state capitols I've ever been to! The museum on the 3rd floor covers everything from minerals/gems/soil of Georgia to political history to agg and more! Wish they would cover the history of the flag a bit more and open the galleries to visitors. Best part was the taxidermied native Georgia scenes with explanations!!!

Not my favorite, seems more like a prison than a public building. I guess they truly fear their citizens

This building effects all of Georgia and it is were you can meet your legislators. If you have time there are great displays on the fourth floor. Also you can see all sorts of cool events and groups during session!

We have a beautiful Capitol. Wonderful history. There is a museum on the top floor. Security measures are in place, so check the website before you go. Easy parking, unless the legislature is in session.

I had a nice visit in the GA Capitol. Very pretty exterior and interior. Learned a lot about the capitol. Also the visitor center across street is not there anymore.

The building was getting painted while we were there. One half wasn't visible in its grandeur. The public entry is relegated to a small door on the side of the building so some of the awe of the architecture is lost when you can't see what the builders intended. Overall, still a worthwhile visit.

Not the best Capitol Building I have visited. I think the exterior is quiet boring. Otherwise, the colors are beautiful and the museum on the fourth floor is also great. I had the opportunity to enter the representative chamber but the senate one was locked. The appropriation chamber was also open

Not a whole lot to see here. On the outside of the building there are a few statues that were interesting, especially Jimmy Carter and MLK. I liked seeing the rooms where the House and Senate met. My favorite part of the Capitol was the fourth floor and all the museum-like cases they had. There was a lot of information on the history of Georgia, the wildlife, and the various state symbols (flower, bird, etc.). It's worth a visit, don't expect to spend more than an hour.

The guard or should I say wanna be drill instructor at the front desk thinks he can order you and demand whatever he wants and make up laws just for coming up to ask a question then threatens you with violence and arrest. Ask for what charge his response is for whatever I want. Apparently judge dredd drama himself king of the castle

Very calm and well manicured part of the city. The gold roof is a signature of the city. There is absolutely no parking so take an Uber or Marta. There is a Marta station close by.

I had the opportunity to be at the Capitol on their first time #latinodayatthecapitol, special thanks to GALEO, Alejandro Chavez and GALFA for extending me this invitation to be part and represent GA Latino Filmaking Community , having great time talking with representatives, legislators and with more Latinos leading in different areas of business.

Beautiful place.. I had the pleasure of Catering for "Fulton County Day" and the people here was very nice. I hadn't been since I was a kid and it still looks great. My company provided Gourmet food for about 400 people and the response was amazing.. thank you for the opportunity.

There is so much to see onside the capitol. It's a beautiful, clean building and the upper floors have great historical displays. If you can get in the upper chambers of the house and senate, make the effort.

We got there late in the day the security guard was friendly and helpful. Retired and happy always ready for a good time and this was one of my favorite moments of my trip to Georgia. Even though they were redecorating and some parts were closed I still had a blast and would recommend it highly. Atlanta is rich in history and I would recommend this to everyone going to Georgia.

Excellent State Capitol to visit. Plenty of room in a clearly historic place, with a great set of museum exhibits on the fourth floor. Park near the Capitol and avoid the walk around downtown, as it isn’t pretty.

Really amazing building! All of the staff and security were really nice aswell except for this one security guard(pictured below). I usually don't do reviews but he was just ridiculous. He wouldn't give us his name but his tag said Frazier. He wouldn't let one of our group members in because she had an expired ID. He seemed to enjoy not letting her in and almost kinda got off to it. Then he started kinda hitting on her and asking her if she was married and how old she was right in front of her boyfriend and she just turned 18 a few months ago. It just wasn't professional at all and I can't believe they can't get better security officers than this creep at a building like this. Watch out for this guy. I'm sure we're not the only ones that have had an experience like this with him.
