Great park for beginner hikers or children. There's a small paved loop that would be good for wheelchair users or strollers, but the actual hiking is a little bumpier. Still a very easy hike even for a toddler. Beautiful views from the rocks at the lake. Take a picnic and enjoy the view! Lots of easy parking. $5 entry or free with GA state parks pass.

Absolutely beautiful area to explore not far off I75. We were on a road trip and decided to stop off here to take a break. I'm so happy we did and can't wait to go back and explore more. Allatoona Lake is stunning. We went in for a swim and could clearly see through the water even at 6 foot depth. There are hiking trails and beaches throughout the area. Parking was readily available.

The most beautiful views and the lake was so beautiful too! The Trails were awesome and they have several trails to choose from. You can even book a cabin rental or pavilion area for an event.

Absolutely gorgeous! Campsites are spread out, clean, well maintained. The lake was beautiful! We had a gorgeous view of the lake from our site. The staff was the friendliest staff we've ever encountered...they even text me while I was on the way to let me know they closed at 5pm, that they left an envelope with a map and other info about the campground, etc. in a secure spot for me to pick up when we got there. Then the following day they text me again to make sure I made it there safely! Above and beyond :) This park will definitely be a regular go to for many more relaxing camping trips!!

This park is like a fairytale place! Swimming at the warm lake surrounded by all the park’s greenery/forestry is fabulous! So serene and breathtaking! Very kids friendly place (has kids story walk along the trail), has very many hiking options & fantastic lake for swimming and picnics tables along the lake’s shore in the forest, where you can eat, eat & enjoy beautiful views. We’ve been only at one area of the park and can’t wait to come back to see other parts of it and to swim in it again! People can do boating there as well (as we saw many open lake areas where the boats were allowed, safely separated from areas where people can swim). Very relaxing and stunning nature scenery! We are absolutely in love with this mesmerizing place. 🥰❤️

Went to Red Top Mountain State Park with my friends on a Friday. The price of admission was only $5 per vehicle, with plenty of parking and a nice, clean welcome center, bathrooms and store. We hiked on some of the well-kept hiking trails and paths (which have a number of benches well-spaced in case you need to sit). Afterwards, we enjoyed some time on the lake, which had plenty of picnic tables and swings. All in all, for how close it is to Atlanta, it was a pretty good park to visit.

The most gorgeous campground that we have stayed so far. Hiking and one mountain bike trail. The lake is beautiful and the water is clear. The scenery is amazing. We will be back! Bring your toys, MTB and paddle boards if you have and you will really enjoy this place!

We camped here multiple times but this time they renovated a lot nicer. Bathroom was new & so clean. We went for a trial @ Iron hill. It was so beautiful & scenic. Only I have one complain is parking for our site #27. It was little too small for two car parking. It’s only fit one car. Other than that we love & enjoyed camping there. We highly recommend red top mountain.

There are so many activities to do in this park. A lot of hikes and many water activities. Trails are well maintained. We did the Iron Hill trail. It was a moderate difficulty trail. If you're coming here, be sure to bring stuff for both hiking and water activities.

This park is such a treat! You can access the Sweetgum Trail, Homestead Loop Trail, and White trail from the visitor center. It’s about a 5 mile trip with some elevation, but the path is clear and visible the entire hike. Park entrance fee is $5. There are so many spots to lounge, wade, and swim in the water, and you don’t need a boat to access them. Beautiful view points with benches of Lake Allatoona along the Homestead Loop trail, if you’re not looking to get in the water. So much to see and so much to do that everyone can enjoy!!!

Beautiful mountains and a bunch of walking trails. Water was so Low. Im not sure why exactly. There its some renovations going on there. People speed a lot there so be careful on the narrow roads.

With all the new renovations in the camping area, this is definitely one of the best parks around! Campsites 46-50 are especially fantastic as they're right on a point overlooking the lake.

My kids and I stayed in a yurt this past week over the 4th. We enjoyed our stay.We have stayed in yurts all across the GA state parks that have them, and these had some of the best views, right on the lake. We could just pop down for a quick swim. However, all the other yurts had full size bunk beds, with a couch futon. These yurts had a twin sized bunk bed, then a couch that could be pulled out. Problem was, there was a MASSIVE table that took up half of the yurt. We had no choice but to rearrange to pull the bed out. Even still, this massive table was in the way the whole time. With a yurt, you have to have a cooler for your stuff, but ice at the trading post cost me almost $5 for a small bag! That’s crazy! We had to drive into town each day to get ice cause I wasn’t paying that. This park got insanely busy up til the 4th. Cars were parked along the street. There was no way to get to the beach without walking a long ways. Luckily there are multiple places to just hop in the lake. The beach is small and cute, right in a cove. It was very pretty, but just couldn’t hold that large of a crowd. All of the rangers and workers were all incredibly nice and one even told us about some fireworks happening right in the park. So my kids and I were able to get a great view without going into town. We walked a few trails and the lakeside one leading to the Vaughan cabin was so nice and peaceful. The one leading out to the tiny peninsula for fishing was absolutely covered in trash though…I don’t think that one was state park property though.

Not really sure why I ended up here after dropping jett off at school this morning, but I needed it. I needed to breathe. I needed to look at life from a different perspective and push the mental reset button. #8Robinsons #untamedcreativebeings #supadopefresh

My brother rented a cabin so my parents could visit. The staff is friendly, helpful, and efficient. We have a 3 br 2 bath for people with disabilities. Everything is clean and well-maintained. The screened porch protects against bugs. There's an outdoor fire pit, barbeque, table with seating, and plenty of space to set up a turkey fryer. Dinner table seats 10, couches etc. and a Lincoln wood stove round out the great room.

I have camped here twice and it is a very nice park. The campground has lots of trees and spacious, quiet sites. We stayed at site 16 with a travel trailer and it was a little tricky. I would say this site is not appropriate for a RV larger than 17 feet at the most. The usable space was narrow and would be difficult to level for a larger vehicle. The campground is currently undergoing renovations to the bathrooms, yurts, and some sites but this should be in late March 2022. The campground has easy access to the lake and trails. We hiked the Iron Hill trail, which was nicely maintained and had beautiful lake views. Staff and camp hosts were friendly. Check-in and accessing the campground was easy.

I’ve been a few times now to this state park for different trails and really enjoy it. I recently did the homestead trail. Most of the trail is very well kept with not too steep of an incline until you get near the middle of the loop portion. The only part of the trail I would mention as a bit difficult is the rocks on the SW side of the loop which might make it harder on someone who has knee or foot issues. I would recommend at least a hiking pole for this portion of the trail. Overall, I enjoyed this as my first hike on the homestead trail and the views of the lake on the north side loop are a great place to take a rest.

Fantastic park a stones throw away from Atlanta. Had a memorable trail run full of beautiful views and dips in a very clear lake. The water temp was perfect in early August. I felt like I was deep in the mountains no where near the hustle and bustle of the city. Great place to swim, run, hike, camp. I plan to come back frequently

The Homestead 5.5 mile hike through the forest and along the lake was so pretty and not bad at all. Got there arrived 7:15am on a Sunday and there weren't too many people. Very relaxing hike with our dogs. We were able to park right at visitor center to get to the trails easily.

This is the third time I’ve visited this state park and this visit was my favorite / mostly as I studied the trails more and picked the trail most suited to what I desired - which was seeing the fall colors! The park ranger recommended the Iron Hill trail around the lake for best fall colors, and it did not disappoint. It’s a gravel parking lot. Very well marked trail with 90% of the hike in view of the lake. The visitor center is nice with clean restrooms. In the past, I’ve taken more of the wooded trails like Sugargum and didn’t prefer those as much. It is dog friendly but they ask to keep dogs on 6’ leash! It does say they close the gates at dark - I haven’t tested this but best be sure to leave before your car gets locked in!!

Nice park close and a short drive from many areas in metro Atlanta. We did the lakeside trail and found it easy for all age groups. There are many picnic tables and a children's play area behind the visitor center. It would be a great spot for a summer picnic.

The park is beautiful. Site 19-21 are very small and very rocky and not suitable for RVs. The bathrooms are GROSS- the camp host never came by had to hunt them down and beg for bathrooms to be cleaned. Lots of trash thru out this nook very disappointed for the cost vs. Upkeep. Kids enjoyed rope swing and climbing the near by rocks.

Red Top Mountain State Park is beautiful. The cabins are nice. My family from out of town stayed in the cabins. If it wasn't for having to shuttle family back in forth down to the additional parking at the visitor center I would have given 5 stars. Only 2 cars are allowed to park up at the cabins. The options on buying state passes is a daily or yearly. It would be nice if you could purchase a 2/3 day pass when visiting someone at the cabins. Instead of having to stop daily to get one. Other than that it was a great stay for my family!

We camped here for the first weekend in November. The campground was very well kept and the campsite was clean & tidy when we arrived. Prior to arrival I was contacted and provided my gate access code since we were arriving after the standard check-in time. We stayed in the first loop, which is apparently newer? They are all pull through sites with full hook ups (30a/50a/110a, water, sewer, tv cable). There's a lot of space between the sites & they're graded well. There is a dump station at beginning of the camping area for the other sites that do not have sewer hookups. The hiking/biking trails were very nice and accessible. We'll definitely be back.

My husband and I and our 2 dogs love to camp here in our 35 foot class A rv. The sites are big and clean with some full hook ups. Fairly quiet except for when the weekend campers come. There's some noise from the interstate but not too bad. The trails are beautiful!! One of our places to camp and hike.

Red Top is a beautiful area with plenty of trails, picnic areas, and beaches. Parking is $5 unless you have a pass. The view of the lake and hills are gorgeous from almost anywhere you stand around the lake. In the winter when the water levels are down, there is a lot more beach area to explore. On a nice, warmer winter day, we enjoy bringing our dogs and exploring around the shores. The campground is nice too— we’ve been dozens of times over the years, but it’s almost always booked up well in advance these days.

Red Top Mountain is an absolutely beautiful park. The winds that come if the lake is cooling and the forest isn't so dense that you can't see through it. Prefect. The park is also very well maintained. With such a large property, trees fall quite often but whenever I go, the newly fallen trees are always cut to allow the pathway through. The only thing I would say is that their pay to park signs aren't extremely obvious. I do believe you need a pass to park at Red Top. Other than that though, this park is a wonderful hiking experience. If you've got a few hours to spare they'd be well spent here!

Beautiful park on Allatoona Lake with fairly easy to moderate hiking trails. There's a nice Visitor's Center and shop with restrooms. Parking costs $5. My only suggestion would he to have the trails better marked at the parking lot entrance.

I visited for the day and its a lovely park. The visitor center is brand new with much to offer. The drive is very scenic and very photogenic. I walked the lake trail which is paved and part of Sweet Gum trail before I ventured to the beach. There were several people with floats & hammocks. The cabin is also lovely and well preserved! The beach looked like a great time, definitely pack your picnic gear & swimsuit. There are places to rinse off and use the restroom, which makes for a great visit. There is a parjing fee of $5.00 but you can also get the GA State Park annual pass for $50.00, your choice! Lastly, ventured down to the marina near the bridge (towards I-75) to snap some shots of boats, kayakers, the beach and of course the bridge. It's worth the visit and be sure to plan to be there all day and relax!

The Visitor Center is very nice with a small retail area, picnic tables, and bathrooms (located inside and outside). There is a paved trail that loops around to the log cabin - which is nice for those with wheelchairs or strollers. Part of the trail was submerged by the lake, so that was a little disappointing, but we were able to walk around it. I liked that the access from the paved trail to the cabin included stairs and a ramp. My family will be back again to visit. FYI: - bathrooms are not Unisex and I believe that the ladies room is the only one with a changing table - dogs are not allowed inside the center

I was completely blown away by this park! Right off of I-75, it’s easy to get to and a beautiful gem. The visitor center has the cutest gift shop and nicest staff. I completed the 4 mile Homestead Trail (at least with the forks I took). There was a lovely place to pull off to enjoy views of the lake and put my feet in. I also visited the beach area - relaxing environment, comfortable water! I felt like I had driven hours to a resort. So amazing that I purchased the annual pass after my visit!

I've always enjoyed going here. Until this trip, I didn't know they had a visitors center with a full on store in it! If I had known I would have Red Top swag already. But at the Visitor's Center (50 Lodge Road) there are some nice small, paved paths, cool old buildings to look at, picnic tables and a playground. This was a great area to bring the church group we met with today.

Such a fun and beautiful place to hang for the day with family and friends. Great place to go on Mother’s Day as well. Went with friends and their baby for Mother’s Day. Brought some SUP’s with us. Others had kayaks and blow up swimming pools. Picnic tables and benches are there as well. Bring a hammock - loads of trees to hang them on. Highly recommend. We got the annual state pass with one night camping - they had a sale and it was $55 instead of $85 till end of May. Annual pass is $50 normally so was the worth the extra $5 and the pass is good until end of May 2024. Most of my photos and pics have people in them and I respect their privacy - go out there and have fun!!

Trails are a 2 out of 3 for difficulty. Kids can do this. Trails are wide and there are lots of options for ways to go and distances with 4 trail colors to follow. Colored markers are easy to spot on trees. Well maintained and lots of access to the lake along the way.

We visited Red Top Mountain State Park's campground in September 2020 and stayed in campsite #8. We camped in a 35 foot 5th wheel. The campground is very pretty and the sites are well spaced apart however very few are made for bigger rigs and it can be a challenge to get into and/or out of the sites. Our site was a pull through and easy to get into. It was oddly angled with a very steep drop off at one end with large rocks (boulders even) in the driveway. We were not confident that we could make the turn at the end of the site due to a large rock and several trees so backed our way out. Driving out of the circle was very close with trees and we had to go carefully so as not to hit anything on the way out. It is a lovely state park but I would caution any with bigger rigs to be aware of the close quarters.

This is for the campground at the park. The people are great BUT, you can't reserve a specific site and the park won't do anything about the Campers with tents taking all the larger site, clearly designed to accommodate the RV'S. So if you can even get your rv into the site without hitting a tree, you may not be able to open it up. State parks need to wise up. Update, started coming back this fall do to McKinney Campground still being closed. You can reserve a spot now, but the only place you can safely take a bigger camper is the pull through sites, as the rest of the park is so tight your probably going to have damage. Now, that said the people are still nice but again the sites are not kept up. There's big ruts and steep grades in the drives that put you into a drag if you have a bigger camper or ANYTHING closer to the ground.

A superior place to hike, picnic, bring your leashed dog. There is a parking fee but buy a season pass and go often. Very nice Visitor Center. Really helpful staff. Nice campground too. The lake surrounds. Rent a brand new cabin....2 day min.

Dedicated staff and volunteers at this park. Well maintained and used by my fellow outdoorsmen. Dog friendly and a historic setting.

Beautiful flat easy 5mile hike around Lake Allatoona. Great for dogs too. Campground was one of the nicest we have been to. Large sites, clean bathhouse, trees surrounding, water at site, and friendly staff. Felt very peaceful. Campground is gated so no walk up campsites after hours!!

Absolutely beautiful area. There was some construction going on but only in certain parts and only in day hours... At night you can hear coyotes and all types of wildlife. It was about 40 for a campsite with electric and water. Worth it!

Beautiful. Peaceful. Well accommodated while still keeping nature in mind first. Friendly gate attendant and well stocked/updated welcome center! Enjoyed the quick mile track around a portion of the lake.

Visitor Center is sizeable and full of fun things to buy Near the visitor center there is a brand new playground, nice musical instruments there and in the woods. Nice place to walk the shore. There is another little playground in another area, too, and plenty of picnic tables, grills, and views of the water.

You can hike trails, fish, grill out, or just lay out and swim. It pays to get a yearly parking pass if you come here more than a few times a month.

It was nice. You can get away from the road noise, but not the boats. Other wise peaceful. One may want to brush up on topo-map reading skills. The trails are marked similar to the Appalachian trails with marks on the trees.

This place is gorgeous. When we went the leave had already started changing. There are many benches, swings too by the lake. Great place to just walk and enjoy nature. They have a beach with so many picnic tables and the different pavilions in the different spots by the beach are absolutely stunning.

One of my favorite State Parks! Lots of hiking trails that range from relaxing walk by the lake to difficult treks up a mountainside. Lots of places to enjoy a picnic, or a fun day at the lake. Something for everyone!

Are you looking for a Great State Park in Georgia to quietly observe nature? Then absolutely stay away from this park! When we arrived here, it was in the winter it was overcast and rainy. The place was overwhelming with people. The trails are so packed full of people that you cannot even see trees without seeing another backpacker. I guess some people like this kind of nature, but it is absolutely not something that I enjoy. The lake is beautiful and all the facilities are incredibly large but it’s just people everywhere. If you get here at 10 AM, good luck finding a parking spot anywhere.

It's a nice park . Very small visitors center. Nice playground out back . The Vaughan cabin is not open up for tours of inside . Very disappointed beautiful historical cabin should open , for planned payed tours.

This place is my sanctuary. I don't go into the visitor's center very often though because dogs aren't allowed inside & I usually have mine w/me. But when I do go inside, it's so clean and well laid out that I end up looking around and buying something I don't necessarily need. They've got interesting books about local spots that many people don't know about, local made special candies and snacks and the requisite t-shirts and hats. Everyone who works at Red Top is extremely welcoming and the clerks in this shop are no different. Thumbs up!!!

It is a large green space that you need to explore, has more trails than listed, boat launch, plus a Marina with a launch and piers. A large mouth bass the length of my arm, was watching them patrol the shallow water for prey. There once was a lodge, now in its place is a beautiful welcome center with clean accessible bathrooms WITH TP, and that's a rarity in many places these days. There are cottages or there will be, I haven't explored them yet.

Beautiful park! It offers so much to do. We had a great time. We camped with our RV trailer at lot #5. It was a pull through space with full hookups. The fees are incredibly low considering how nice and spacious the camping sites are. We'll be back.

My family and I really enjoyed this park. Lots of lake access, swimming, kayaking, and miles of hiking trails. Everyone found something to do and enjoy. Plus there is plenty to do in the surrounding area. We enjoyed a day at the Tellius Museum which was only 15 mins away. Will mark as one to return to.

We camped here for a week and loved our stay. It felt remote but was super close to everything you might need. It also was close enough to Atlanta to spend time there. The campsites are awesome. Most are far apart and surrounded by trees. The bathrooms were new and very clean. There were a variety of sites so it did not feel like there were just huge RVs. Simply put this was one of the nicest parks we have ever camped in. The hiking trails are well marked and pretty.

Beautiful, clean, and well-kept state park! They have two playgrounds, boating, fishing, a sandy beach for swimming, camping and cabins, two visitors centers, and many miles of walking trails. Georgia nature at its finest.
