Great park and easy to get to. Loved the view from the top and the gift shop. Pictures don't do it justice. Also, if you go, you need to find the lake and hike to the waterfall. It's definitely a challenging hike, but worth it. The road is gravel, but easily drivable. The park ranger that takes your entrance fee will give you directions if needed.

Beautiful park, highest in Georgia. Trails range from easy to moderate to strenuous but they are maintained very well. Good signage about to let you know where you are going throughout the park. Seems to be a popular park to visit cause it was quite a few people there and still coming as we was leaving. I went early while it was cool, about 65 degrees. I went to the lookout point at the Visitor Center then hiked the trail around Black Rock Lake.

The road coming to the top of the state park it’s very steep. Please be careful during high traffic times and speeding visitors! This is very close to the city, so it seems this park is always packed full of people. It is the highest state park in Georgia And the view from the visitor center is amazing. Almost worth the visit just to see it. They have several outdoor picnic areas which, on the weekends are always reserved. But there are about four trails of different links from half a mile to 7 1/2 miles to challenge you, wish we could’ve spent more time here, the cabins that are for rent are great, and have been coming here for years.

A very nice place to see the mountains. We were visiting the mountains looking for a riot of colors that defines the change of seasons and this is where we found them. You have to drive up the mountain which can be a real drive up as the Visitors center is near the top. It is worth the drive as the view is excellent. There are several parking spots in a long parking area with a covered viewing area near the end of the lot for people to appreciate the view. The area between that area and the gift shop/visitor’s center building is an open area of about 200 feet that provides an excellent view of the trees below. There is a nice outdoor viewing area with a solid railing looking out over the mountain. If you want to be inside, the visitors’ center offers the same spectacular views. If you are into hiking, several trails have trailheads in the local area. You can obtain a map from the very pleasant people in the center. I would recommend this as a good place for fellow travelers to see the mountain. There is the bonus that if you want to see the Foxfire area it is on the way to or from this site.

A short drive to great views. The park rangers, the staff at the visitor center, and the staff at the trading post were all extremely helpful and friendly. The views from the visitor center were amazing and there are also clean public bathrooms and even a covered pavilion there as well. If you are looking to be a bit more active there are also several trails to hike of various difficulty levels. If you are short on time or if you want to spend the day Black Rock Mountain is definitely worth taking the time to visit.

This was a beautiful state park! Spectacular views. Very clean facilities. Camp sites were some of the cleanest I've ever seen. The ambiance was peaceful. I WILL be back!

Beautiful lookout spot. I got some pretty good pictures (attached) while there, but I can imagine sunset looks amazing there. The walk around the lake is perfect for an easy stroll, as the trail is pretty level and well kept. Wish I found a good spot to set up a hammock!

Black Rock Mountain State Park is a little slice of heaven to say the least! We went back in June and it was the last weekend with cool weather before the summer blast! Cool breezes and beautiful mountain views await you! You have to book early or you won't get a spot and beware those with BIG RVs - YOU WON'T FIT! Witnessed a couple while we were there who ran their fifth wheel off the road trying to climb up the winding mountain road. This is a small camper owners paradise!

The lake is very scenic and beautiful to take pictures. The lookout is near visitor's center near the road. So the people who can't walk on trails can also have a view. Good renovated cabins. Neat and clean.

For the people who like to hike, this is a great place! Combination of lake and ridge provide different views, especially the foliage was in full colors! Just fascinating views with red, orange, yellow, green…

I’d rate this hike a 4/10 on the difficulty scale. It’s going to take you some time to get up there but the views are worth it. It’s probably a 2 hour round trip at a normal speed. The trail splits shortly after it begins. Taking the left turn is the fastest way to the top, but it’s also steeper. I recommend going up the right side and coming down the other. The right side trail is the longer way around and doesn’t have much in the way of views until you reach the top. I’ve done it twice so far and every time the view at the top makes me stop and Enjoy it. Certainly worth a hike! Its especially stunning during the fall.

Beautiful campground and state park! Our site was nice and shady. Just be warned, you will have to walk uphill to get to your site if you aren't near the bottom. Not a big hill, but it's uphill, none the less. Beautiful views were everywhere! The hiking trails are also pretty steep, but nothing too bad if you are a seasoned hiker.

Great camp ground in a beautiful location. Check in at the little cabin for your site map and parking pass. Fire wood and some essentials can be purchased here. Womens restrooms and showers were very clean and well ventilated. Coin laundry machines available for use at the bath house. Many sites have power and water available. I walked the majority of the camp sites and all were very clean and well maintained. This is a dog friendly site and leasing is enforced. There are a few hiking trails available as well as drive up opportunities for some over look views. The visitor center is about a mile up the road from camp and offers a nice play ground, picnic area as well as a shop for souvenirs and some staples.

If you want to capture some beautiful mountain pictures, this is the park to visit. You will find multiple overlook points to take pictures. You will find multiple trails you can explore. I walked the Black Rock lake trail, and it was a beautiful trail that circles the lake. It's not a hard trail to do, so just about anyone could go and check it out.

We hiked the lake trail, surrounded by mountains. The Maroon Bells of the Appalachians comes to mind. Great for family hiking and jogging. Easy trail with creeks, bridge and magnificent views. Bring your telephoto.

Beautiful state park with some good and very scenic hiking. Dog friendly. The Tennessee Rock trail was perfect for us. The trail features different scenery such as ferna in one area, lots of mountain Laurel in another and an amazing scenic vista in yet another. Highly recommend!

Stayed at back country site 4 and absolutely loved it! Camp site was nice and large with a bear can and easy access to water. Park overall was beautiful, though the hike up the mountain was a little intense but there are also much easier hikes available.

One of my favorite state parks in GA. Easy to visit and see some spectacular views. You can drive right up top to the best overlook. The Campground was nice although the road is very, very narrow and pretty steep to get there. Best used by smaller travel trailers, tents, and teardrops. Hiking trails were well maintained and there’s something for everyone. Way less crowded that Tallulah Gorge, very close to Clayton, friendly staff, 10/10.

This is such a nice place to visit. It has great mountain views. The visitor center staff is always so helpful and friendly. The store has various local items to purchase. The cabins are a great spot to stay for vacations. They remodel them every so often. It's been so fun experiencing the changes through the decades.

Stunning view. Nice place with picnic tables, and a kid's play area. The road is a little bit steep, but it's not very difficult while driving with less traffic. The restrooms are also clean and well-maintained. Parking fee is $5.

This place has an amazing view! Beautiful! The drive was pleasant too. Very windy, but that can't be helped as you are driving up a mountain. Lol. There's more to the park than the view too. They have cabins you can rent as well. The only downfall is the restrooms are locked after the gift shop closes. Check this place out!

Enjoyed the 2.2mi loop trail to the Tennessee Rock overlook. Stunning scenery. The trail was well marked. Easy to moderate hike. Some portions had switchbacks with large inclines.

Took the orange trail a mile up the mountains for my first hike and first camping trip, stayed there for a total of three days. This area has beautiful scenery, you get a feeling of peace here being secluded and so high above the clouds. Perfect amount of spooky when you’re alone at night too. :)

Nice hiking. Lots of shade and the elevation keeps it pretty comfortable. No bugs were bothering me on my hike, but when I got home I was covered with chigger bites. So, be sure to put on insect repellent as a preventative.

Definitely one of the best Georgia state parks. The view from the visitor center alone makes it worth the drive and there are so many cool hiking trails around the park for any skill-level! I visited on a nice Saturday afternoon and there were hardly any crowds.

Once we found it, we had a nice stroll around the lake. Wanted to hike to the waterfall, but didn't find it in time. Signage to this area could be greatly improved. The park is beautiful, with amazing views of fall foliage, and hiking trails.

Super SUPER tired after this hike. Not for the faint of heart. This was probably one of the hardest hikes my boyfriend and I have done due to large change in elevation. The view from the visitor center is a must as well so if you go, make sure you stop by there.

Stunning view. Group rode motorcycles up mountain and took a break at trying post. It was a long ride and needed restroom. Lady at trading post said there was none. Wanted to buy pin but she said go to visitor center, there's more. More like a go away attitude. Not sure if she was just having a bad day. Any way we went to visitor area. Breathtaking views. Want to come back with family for a little getaway.

A beautiful park! Great trails and multiple stunning lookouts. The roads up and down are lots of funnier you have a driver’s car, not so much if you are pulling a camper.

Fantastic park. Access is a little sketchy because of the windy mountain road leading to the park. I stayed in Cabin #4 and it was incredible. The view of Clayton was unreal and the cabin was sorta old-fashioned, with old furniture and outdated decorations, and that added immensely to the charm of the place. I love looking over Clayton and seeing all of the tiny ant people moving about. Unfortunately, there aren't too many things to do in the area. When I visited, the majority of the interesting stores in Clayton were closed, and there aren't too many established hiking trails and waterfalls nearby. There are a few trails on the mountain, which are great, but outside of the mountain there really isn't anything. Also, the two bedroom cabins don't have a view. Something to consider. What else to say... Uh, lovely, lovely view. We got takeout from the Rusty Bike Café and it was really delicious, highly recommended. They have this amazing banana bread French toast that tastes even better than it looks. One last thing: the bathrooms in the cabins don't have locks. At least in cabin #4. Poop at your own risk.

Black Rock Mountain is home to several trails of varying length and difficulty. We took a day trip and chose the Tennessee Rock Trail, a two hour loop with great views and moderate difficulty. There is also a great ranger presence and the staff is nice, they’ll answer any questions you have. We really enjoyed it!

Beautiful home-y cabins and lovely views. Some of the cabins are pet-friendly and ours came with multiple boardgames in the living room! Only down side was that hiking and fishing access was a small drive away, so if you're wanting to be in walking distance to those, take that into consideration. Would stay again!

Tough hike for older short legged woman like me to be able to climb over a couple fallen trees was quite the challenge besides hiking the elevations. Did the 2 mile hike and took our time to enjoy plants and scenery. Was a great hike. Highly recommend for those who like to hike.

Extraordinary view from the top. Plenty of rhododendrons along the route make for a tranquil drive up. Several less remarkable views from overlooks along the way, but the main view is reached at the top. There it's truly amazing.

A short drive from atlanta. This place has multiple trails for hiking. They offers lodging with reservations. Not overly crowded, nice view points on the top of the mountain. Parking can be challenging. When it’s nice weather, this place is awesome. But if it rains, the steep road can be hazardous.

Beautiful State Park! We visited for one day just to hike, but I would like to go back to stay a few days because it was lovely. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There are many trails, something for everyone. We did the Tennessee Rock Trail, Black Rock Lake Trail, Ada-Hi Falls Trail, and the Black Rock Mountain Waterfall Trail. The park is dog friendly, we took our two dogs and they seemed to enjoy the trails.

This park is definitely for serious hikers. Most of the trails are up and down with 25 percent grades. The RV sites are nice, but the road up is narrow and winding. When the leaves are off the trees, you can hear road noise all the time. There are a few nice overlooks.

  • 5/5 Casey R. 3 years ago on Google

  • 5/5 rugbyturner 3 years ago on Google
Being on top of a mountain but not too far from the highway, you can see and hear a little bit more of the traffic than you might like but the views and trails more than make up for it. It isn't an amusement park kind of park with all kinds of things to do like putt-putt but if you want trails of various lengths and difficulty, streams with water falls and awesome views, this is 5 star.

The views here are gorgeous. Just get out of your car and u can see a mountain vista that stretches for miles and miles. Or, if you are up for a hike head down to the "waterfalls" which is honestly just a trickle off of rocks. But it's tranquil if u imagine soft music. This is only about 20 minutes from Tallulah Gorge State Park. So I'd suggest doing them both in one day. My pictures are showing the road to this over look then the overlook which I think is the best in the park. The trail feet away from this overlook take you to the next picture. Then the water trickle There are benches along the trail if you need to sit.
