One of the historic palace of the Travancore royal family, also this is the birth place of Raja Ravi Varma. The place is big, the place and the surroundings are very calm. As of March 2021, the public entry is restricted but you can watch the palace from outside.

The place is now maintained my Mr Rama Varma , 6the generation decencdent of The great Raja Ravi Varma. We were fortunate because he himself showed us around the places and even the personal room of the great painter. He had interesting stories to tell us regarding various paintings and even showed us the Natyangali place where dancers from southern india showed their skills

Kilimanoor Palace is located in Kilimanoor of Thiruvananthapuran district in South Indian state of Kerala. This palace is famous being the birthplace of well known painter Raja Ravi Varma.Β The distance from Thiruvananthapuram to this palace is around 45 KMs. One can reach here through the State Highway to Kottayam. The paddy pield in front of the palace gives a cool feel to our eyes.

Kilimanoor Palace is located at Kilimanoor, inTrivandrum district of Kerala. The Palace is spread over in more than 15 acres of land, and comprises the traditional residential structures of Kerala, like the Nalukettu, small and medium-sized buildings, two ponds, wells and sacred groves (kaavu). Currently the palace is in deteriorated state, and efforts are on to renovate the buildings to bring back to its original state. It is the birthplace of prince Raja Ravi Varma who is responsible for fetching Kerala a prominent place among the wizards of painting. His fame and his style of painting transcended the borders of Kerala and Ravi Varma soon got reckoned as a master painter of international repute.

IT IS THE GREATEST EXPERIENCE AND PRIVILEGE TO VISIT THE RAJA RAVI VARMA PALACE. IT IS ONE OF THE RAREST PLACE IN TRIVANDRUM THAT KEPT ITS NATURALIST ENVIRONMENT AND THE CHILDLIKE BEHAVIOR OF A VILLAGE

The palace is a Historical monument owned by the Govt of Kerala. But strangely public is not allowed to visit inside. On an inquiry, the people said some deliberately hindered the entry to hide something. If it's true, govt or public intervention is needed to reopen the palace for the people. It is also unfortunate to see a valuable monument ruined like this.

The palace is located in Kilimanoor, Trivandrum, Kerala, India. It is the birthplace of famous painter Raja Ravi Varma. The Palace complex covers more than six hectares, and comprises the traditional residential structures of Kerala, like the Nalukettu, small and medium-sized buildings, three ponds, wells and sacred groves (kaavu). Raja Ravi Varma is said to have built and maintained some of the buildings from the proceeds of his paintings. Families related to the Travancore royal house continue to live here. The royal house at Choottayil, Kilimanoor has a history stretching back more than 300 years, although the oldest buildings are from a much earlier period. However, it was in 1753 that the palace was built in its present form.

Although a palace, there are still families staying in. So you can't go in there. But having said that, it's great to see the art studio used by the great artist Raja Ravi Varma ! It felt so divine!

If you like history, then this place will excite you but there is nothing much to see. But it's the same with all places in Kerala, not much historical scriptures available for tourists to see read and know more.

One among the finest artists to ever grace the shores of Kerala, Raja Ravi Varma. His paintings had gained recognition globally. He was born as a member of the royal family and today his work is hailed by contemporary artists and scholars in the field. The main entrance leads one to the studio, where Raja Ravi Varma used to spend a great deal of time for making some of his finest creations. A studio right next to the palace displays the reproduced works of Raja Ravi Varma's famous paintings. These are testament to the skill and genius of this legendary artist and pride ofΒ  Kerala.

It is a good place were we can see very old temple and pond narthana shala from outside and it seems that it a very huge palace but we are not allowed inside

  • 1/5 sharada l. 2 years ago on Google
Not open to the public. We were redirected to a badly maintained museum decorated with poor copies of Ravi Varma's paintings, with no labels, and minimal information, staffed by a silent "watchman". A waste of time.
