Mount St John

πŸ‘πŸ‘ Another beautiful volcano crater in Mt Eden area. This place is less popular than Mt Eden Summit. Hence, less crowded. However, this is a beautiful place for your morning/evening walks.

This place should be more popular. Lovely walk around a volcanic basin, with well defined paths, takes maybe 20 mins to stroll around the top. This may be the forgotten little brother, sister? of other more well known and frequented parks. Views are amazing, looking out to Rangitoto, across the fields of Dilworth. Lots of birdsong, and seats to relax.

Really nice views of other mountains and it's not very busy during the week. Casual walk to top and around will take you 20mins

Nice volcano cone. Sourrounded by four other volcanos. Plenty of sheep but not much else.

Treat yourself to a gorgeous view overlooking the inner city and surrounding areas of epsom! Go collect some basalt lava rocks for your garden or for fun. Go sit on the grassy patch in the middle of this scoria volcano and ponder your life. Be super careful when it comes to walking that steep and narrow hilly pathway you'll see after you walk up the gravel steps.

Love this short yet lovely hike, just 15-16minutes away from Haka Hotel where I stayed while in the area. There are benches to rest, enjoy the scenery from and it's open 24hrs. The steps are also well built, making it easier for kids or older people to hike to the peak as well.

Excellent place for a walk. Small hill and about 400m around the crater. Great for dogs but this is an "on leash" area although there are usually no stock here.

A steep-ish climb up, but an easy walk around a small extinct volcanic cone. Lovely views over the city, and of other maunga. Get a sense of who lived here and how they lived.

One of Auckland's many Dormant Volcanos, with a scoria cone and crater, it has historic value as it was used as a settlement by the Māori. Though you don't have much going on on the mountain itself, it offers quite a beautiful view of most of Auckland. It gets windy up on the mountain so take extra layers just in case. It's well connected on most sides and small so going up and down is not a hassle. Some of the pits could be marked better as the tall grass tends to hide them. This place does not get a lot of attention so it's the perfect place to run away to if you need to get away. You can take your dogs up but they need to be on a leash.

This Maunga was a surprise to me, it has some very old native trees, the crater itself is steep/sheer, there is a bog at the bottom. The views to all the other volcanoes in the area are at least as good as you might expect and probably better. The archaeological remains of Māori occupation (Kumara pits and plateau cutting) are very visible. Get amongst it!

Beautiful view a across a range of leafy suburbs and other maunga. Great to imagine how the early Polynesian established there settlement on the volcano and what life was like at the time.

πŸ‘πŸ‘ Wonderful place for the kids, with alot of safety measures taken but be ware it's not an enclosed park and it might be risky if the kids will run out to the road. But generally it's a fun place for the kids and an open space for the adults.

πŸ‘πŸ‘ Just 15min drive from the CBD and you feel like you’re in a tropical forest. Peaceful and quiet and the waterfall is really beautiful. There’s also a nice walk in the area.

πŸ‘πŸ‘ Awesome splash pad with a great playground as well (more than whats in the photo). Not a lot of shade but new trees have been planted for the future. There's also a skate park, a court and public toilets. Kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves and didn't want to leave.
