Nice people good service but don’t recommend ordering half a scoop of chips. 13 chips in total! The 13 that were there were nice chips though

Not a fan. Got the battered hoki, potato fritters and chips and it was all very soggy and oily. The fritters were still half solid. Nothing was crispy or salted well. Would've been 2 stars but it was cheap and very quick.

Best Sushi on the North Island! I did a road trip around the north island and came across this little takeaway, and I was blown away by how delicious and fresh the sushi were, at the most reasonable price! This is a little hidden gem!

Worst service ever! Waited over an hour. Asked for two fish and one scoop. Probably was served 20 individual chips. Had to ask for my order again as they had completely messed up everyones orders. Other people left because they were waiting too long. People were being served that we're coming in while others were waiting in line for their orders. TERRIBLE.

I think the name says it all - there is definitely something very fishy with this business. This is the worst and most incompetent fish and chip service I have ever experienced anywhere in NZ over some 50+ years of eating fish and chips!!!! If I could rate the service lower than one star I would. I would strongly commend the owners to get in some serving staff who actually know how to take orders, cook food and serve customers and to take up a new profession - Fish and Chips is not for you. The 75 minutes waiting in your shop for a simple order of 2 x snapper and 6 scallops before finally giving up and asking for my money back gave me a good insight into how you struggle to operate. I could hear phone orders being cancelled because of excessive wait times and complications. I watched multiple people approach the counter to politely complain that they had been there for more than an hour with some of them leaving because of the excessive wait with neither food, nor a refund. I watched you shifting the blame for delay to customers because they ordered something that wasn't hoki or some unintelligible gibberish. I watched orders getting mixed up through your continuous shuffling of order slips on the counter and you then meddling with customers in the doorway whilst customers tried to unravel mixed orders amongst themselves in an effort to get home and have something to eat. I watched people being served snapper whilst I was still waiting in the shop for mine. I listened with incredulity to almost every possible excuse under the sun as to why orders were mixed up, taking too long to cook or were underwhelming in size, and although battle hardened after 75 minutes of patiently waiting I wasn't prepared for my turn on the rostrum - I was told that I should have ordered hoki, not snapper so the wait was my fault, that they had now run out of snapper and that the husband was out buying snapper for my order, so could I just continue to wait for him to get back!!!. They hadn't actually cooked a single part of my order in having it sit on their countertop for 75 minutes. Unbelievable!!!! My effort to grab a quick seafood dinner for my elderly father and I to share on a Friday night was dashed....... I insisted on getting a refund on my order, politely advised them that they should be treating customers a little bit better than they had treated me and departed as quickly as possible vowing never to make the mistake to going to this place again. I also vowed to read online reviews more carefully in the future. I made the fatal mistake of glancing quickly on my mobile whilst enroute to Devonport and deciding on the basis of this shop being rated as 4.5 stars - higher than the Takapuna Fish Shop at 4.2 stars that I sadly drove past to get to this place. Truly a disappointing and frustrating experience. This is a shop that the good folk of the North Shore of Auckland don't deserve to have foisted on them until it tidies its act up.

Very disappointed with the value. Cost $46 (incl 1x large bottle of fizzy) 1x sausage, 1x snapper, 1x chicken burger, 2x chips - kids 2, 6, 8, 13, 1x adult - ran out of chips, teen couldn't eat the burger as it was not good. Kids were hungry afterwards. Bought a Limo Pizza $36 with large drink, we had enough to fill a container for lunch the next day. I was hoping to support local business but after this, I won't go again.

Everything is over priced for what it is. I've had a few orders from here and it seems to get more expensive everytime. I understand inflation is killing small businesses and we all need to make a living but I feel the chip quantity is very small. And $5.50 for a 1.5 liter coke is abit cheeky. The service is always good but I'm losing faith and value for money has gone out the window.

Yummy fish and chips. Got battered hoki, chips and sausages (+ tomato sauce) and they were all crispy and nicely done. Neat posters about the different kinds of fish on the wall to read about while waiting. I think they also overheard us talking about how we like lemon pepper seasoning because we found some on our chips :)

Delicious chips. Me and my partner just moved to Devonport and these guys are around the corner from us so we checked them out.

The sushi is always freshly prepared. Great chips - fab fish - the batter always crunches and the fish is always super fresh. They are wonderfully friendly and open 7 days no matter what. Feel very lucky to have them as our local fish and chippy. Actually, they are not local to me. I suburb hop, because they are the best!

The tarakihi was very small falling apart and did not taste at all fresh. I even question if it was tarakihi. I know tarakihi snapper and gurnard hoki well. I'm quite the connoisseur. It tasted more like hoki and it wasnt soft succulent and fresh tasting. For $8.30, I was definitely ripped off. The batter was practically peeled off most of the fish because the fish had fallen to bits. I couldn't eat it with my hands without making a mess and I certainly couldn't hold it cos it was so broken up. My hands got messy and sticky. I consumed it in 3 mouthfuls. Not impressed. Not at all worth $8.30! Chips were okay but they were small and you don't get alot for $3.80. I won't be returning.

I had some great crispy fish and chips that I would totally recommend to anyone, the food is worth the wait, especially for takeout

First time. Quite good clean as you would expect. Friendly service. Pāua fritters were a disappointment, otherwise no issues with kumara wedges or mussel fritters that tasted as they should

Really good fish and chips, crispy and well cooked, but what lets the side down is the chips portion. We put in a massive order, spent up around $80, $15 of which was chips and it was an unreasonably measly amount we got. I’m positive that at any standard fish and chip shop it would have been about $5 chips. It’s got way worse than it used to be, just stupidly stingy chips serving. I’ve been a regular here but it might be time to find somewhere new.

The food is nice, but nothing particularly special. Also they do not seem to have any idea how to handle volume of business. Every order is cooked in turn, which no doubt ensures consistency, but if they had any serious competition they would most certainly go out of business. Fine if you are passing when they are not busy, or prepared to wait an hour for a portion of chips, but would seek out a better alternative if you can. (Also, don't bother with online ordering as you will probably be disappointed when your order gets rejected). EDIT: After requesting a burger with no sauce. It came with tomato sauce. Now mistakes happen but when I returned and politely let them know, so they might try to improve. The response was "Well there is nothing I can do about that" Ok the online ordering system has improved and the food is still better than the other local option but service is still terrible.

$18.60 for 2 tarakihi and small portion of chips Fish was bland.tasteless and when I queried if it was hoki I was told fish was Taranaki but quite old.i will never come here again Very disappointed.

The best little local takeaway! Fresh and crispy fish and chips, good variety of burgers and delicious sushi, my favourite is salmon and avocado and prawn tempura 🍣🍤 Support your local family business!

Used to be good but seems last several orders have been with old fish or previously frozen fish. Fish has weird firm texture, certainly not tarakihi caught today. Consistently over salted.

🫤 Not a fan. I couldn’t drink the cocktail, it was cloying and unbalanced.
