This used to be one of Takapuna's icons. No longer. We went for a steak and once we had ordered our drinks and committed to stay we were told steak was off the menu. Our friend ordered a gluten free chicken burger and once the rest of us had our meals delivered, she was told the chicken in the burger had crumbs and was not gluten free. The food was below average, the disabled toilets were out of order and the men's toilets were very sub par as regards cleanliness and hygiene. For the drinks menu, everything but the beer had prices on it. We did not know the draft Heineken was $13 a glass. Is it legal to not have prices on the beers so you can order to your budget? Overall a horrible experience...will never go back.

During the day I'm going to assume it looks a bit better as it's clean and likely less busy than I suspect it gets at night, but overall, it still just feels like a cookie cutter NZ beer bar (and I think it is part of that larger brewery chain family). Inside and outside seating makes for good pictures when empty at least, and the outdoor wall art is pretty good. Chicken burger looked better than the beef one and was pretty good as I recall. Pizzas were okay. However, for me I think it's still just a place I'd go to when my mates want to have a beer during the day with or without kids in tow as the menu and tap variance is more aligned to drunken late nights I feel.

Tried to go to elephant with a few mates after a Christmas dinner with some colleagues at TokTok and got refused entry with no reason. My partner was completely sober but wasn’t allowed in and I had drunk maybe two drinks and yet had to go to another bar because I was refused entry. Just ridiculous bar and probably average food anyway! Need to work on their security and customer service if they are going to be a late night hospitality venue!

Had an amazing night, Karlien was an absolute star, she was constantly checking up on us and made sure we had everything we needed. She had a positive attitude and I felt really welcomed around her. Will definitely come again

Staff was very friendly and accomodating despite the inconvenience of the lockdown -- they are definitely doing their best to keep the place clean and safe. The food was good, and portions were huge! Just keep that in mind:) Especially loved the buttermilk chicken entree -- very tasty. A little bit pricey for some things, but I enjoyed the experience and would come back.

Only scored it 4 stars due to my age! Anyone younger would score it 5 stars. Service was awesome, food was awesome, drinks were awesome. Prices mid range. Music was too loud and deep base for any meaningful conversation, again, for my age.

We had our work du here. Caroline is amazing to book with. Also Lily was very helpful with our group . Loved the make over. Takapuna on a Thursday (definitely more quieter than how I remember pre -pandemic)

Dristi makes anyone feel welcome and can make an absolutely amazing Espresso Martini. We came for a bottomless beer and chicken meal, we were looked after by Katie who made sure we had everything we needed and ensured we had a great time. I look forward to coming back and hope I see the both of them again. The Wrestling Elephant, please look after these workers. They are amazing.

Have been here before but not for a while. Probably wouldn't rush back. The food was actually amazing and it needed to be to make up for the service. We had booked a table so it wasn't an unexpected visit. We waited 15 minutes before asking someone if we needed to order from the bar because we hadn't been seen. We made eye contact with the person who seated us but we were ignored. We were also never offered water which is usually standard practice for a sit down. They seemed understaffed but there was no urgency at all. We finally got to order drinks only to watch them sit on the bar for over 5 minutes before being brought over. At this point there are more servers and half the place had emptied out. The young lad who started near the end of our sitting was by far the most on to it, very attentive and great people skills.

Went on first table, great food. Best part was the live performance by Jaz who was playing her acoustic cover of popular songs.

The Elephant Wrestler has beautiful food & great service. The serving staff were attentive and very well mannered and patient. We asked to move tables as we were sitting in the outdoor area, and the door was open, and they were more than happy to assist us with that. Their wagyu smash burger was top-notch. Seriously, so good. The meat was so tasteful that I couldn't believe how good it tasted & the pickkles added great flavor as well. We also had the Buttermilk Chicken, Pork Belly Bites, and ordered some chips. The Buttermilk chicken come boneless and with a sirachi sauce that had the perfect spice to it. The pork belly bites were good, but it was bit too heavy for me, but it did come with a little herby kind of slaw with chilies that gave it a refreshing taste. We went on a Saturday night and it was quite packed & a bit to loud for my liking but you know it's a Saturday & they have a great atmosphere so I understand why it was quite popular on thsi specific day. Top notch customer service with very friendly team. We were served by Sophia who answered our queries about the menu and also was kind enough to take our photo. Its always a delight to come to Elephant Wrestler especially for big groups. They have plenty of space and kid-friendly atmosphere during lunch time. There’s a variety of food to choose from, always tasty, fresh and never dry. We enjoyed the pork belly and sirloin steak. Tiramisu is a must-have for dessert! We will definitely come back again.

Our family (2 adults and 2 young children) had a great time here last night. Our waitress, Sophia, made us feel welcome. Another waitress took the children for a tour around the restaurant, giving us some quiet time. The food was great, with especially generous dessert portions. Highly recommended.

We didn't eat, but we had a great afternoon enjoying some tasty beverages and Chris really helped to elevate the experience. We stayed around for another pint because he created such a welcoming atmosphere. Thanks Chris, we'll be back!

Music and atmosphere had a great feel to it. Personally I think the staff did a great job serving my groups table. However, the food I thought was a bit overpriced. No quantity nor quality. Absolutely unacceptable.

We drove 3 & a half hours from Tauranga for a show up the road & had less than an hour at this pub but our waitress was so accomodating and the food was incredible. Thoroughly recommend!

Probably one of my favorite places! We have only been a couple of times. Highly recommend checking out the Burlesque every second Wednesday. Kiki is AMAZING! The staff here are incredibly friendly also. We have had only good experiences here.

Nathan at the bar tonight was absolutely fantastic! He went above and beyond to make sure everyone's drinks were perfect. His friendly and attentive service made the night even more enjoyable. Highly recommended! 🍻👌

Wow this has to be one of the best places I have been in a long time for all round experience, atmosphere and staff. The way they were so accommodating for dietaries and how well our big group was after was superb. Awesome bartenders too! thanks team for a great night

Not a good experience sadly, atmosphere was far too loud, blasting teen pop and a rugby game so loud you can't have a conversation. Despite making a reservation, was seated at a wobbly, dirty table and 20 minutes later no waiter or sign of service, we talked to the hostess who said we can order from the waiter, who never arrived or was seen, so we left. We clearly set our expectations too high, this place should be advertised as a sports pub for teens, not a restaurant.

Izzy was so so great, we did the bottomless and she was super attentive. Best bottomless experience I’ve had. All the staff were amazing and catered to our large table super well!

Staff were lovely but the food was so bad it’s the first time I’ve ever sent something back at a restaurant due to it being completely inedible! Ordered Beef rendang and the meat was grey chunks of fat with no meat and had that ‘old meat’ smell that overpowered the sauce. the ‘sauce’ had the consistency of water and had chunks of something that seemed like lychee? Floating in it. The coconut rice was dry and stuck together in a way you could literally pick it up as a solid disc. Really really shocked a kitchen would be willing to send that out. Staff were lovely and removed it from our tab offering to replace it but just wanted to leave and go make dinner at home instead. In the end it was $29 for a single drink and some fries.. such a waste of money. Had heard good things but Won’t be back :(

Great place. Love the decor and the seating and service is fast and friendly. Excellent food with a terrific smashed burger, mozzarella sticks and the bizarre but amazing cheeseburger pizza. Really good option for a quick bite, a dinner or an evening talking nonsense with friends and a few beers

Still a great vibe but their food menu has changed?? When we have dined their in the past we've been able to select from a range of beautiful foods from pasta to pork belly and a good Lamb shank. Now it's just bar food sandwiches and burgers?? Not somewhere I'd go for dinner, not like in the past!

I went for the bottomless brunch that was very fun and yummy but they only brought out a couple of bits of chicken at a time and we had to ask for more every time that wasnt ideal . It would of been better with a basket of chicken at the start and replaced once empty and/or wanting more. Definitely wasn't enough.

Had bottomless brunch here about a month ago. The food was so amazing, fresh and delicious. Also the staff are so friendly and kind, helpful as ever. Restrooms are lovely and clean. Even better they have an outdoor area the sun shines through but you still get good air flow. Love this place, staff make it even better thank you for a great experience 😊

Tried the popular fat zaddys bottomless lunch. You get what you paid for except the burger was missing veges like in the photo 😭! Prosecco kicks ya a** though and only one staff lady was in a foul mood. It gets very loud and crowded (hard to hear each other, hard to order n flag down staff) but good for big groups. Not good for intimate dates 😂

So pleased with our mothers day bottomless experience, tickets were sold out for the Cabaret show.But Annabel came through with last min cancelations and reserved us a table for 3. Staff were brilliant, great service making sure our table was topped up with drinks. Thank you to all the staff who made it, a pleasant afternoon.

Had our work mid winter Christmas here. Delicious food. Live music and staff were super helpful in moving us to a bigger table. The outdoor flow made it helpful for those in our team who vaped and also to cool down. Very popular place so quite packed. Bathrooms were clean and tidy and Bar service was quick.

Long island ice tea was great! But it did take a while to be made, also we had ordered 3 and 2 arrived first with a decent wait in between; so long that we thought theyd forgotten the 3rd drink. I tried to wave down a waitress for a few minutes but no one was paying attention. The bartender ended up calling out that it was ready after a while so I could put my hand down. Most of the food we got was good - aka. Fried chicken, pork belly & cauli bites. But the cheesy fries were a bit of a disappointment. Kind of expected a loaded fries vibe, saucey cheese topping, and some p'zaz. But it was a pretty small basket of fries just with normal grated cheese ontop, and not even alot of it. Also was very anemic looking, not golden brown and enticing. Would've been more mad about it if I was paying full price, luckily we had a first table voucher. But honestly the chips werent worth even the $5.25

Had bottomless brunch here, decent price for what you get. The cocktails were great and the dirty dogs were yum and brought out fast! Atmosphere was meh, wouldn’t recommend coming here if you’re brown and wanting a good time otherwise you’d get stared at by other customers like you’re an animal. It was disgusting to say the least, wouldn’t be spending my money here again thanks to that. Huge shoutout to Izzy though! Amazing friendly customer service, made the whole experience a ton better! Walked in and got a warm welcoming from miss Emma. It was nice to have a beautiful young lady working behind the bar with so much confidence. Writing my review as she serviced me an amazing cocktail which I’ll be coming back for sometime soon.

They say bottomless chicken, but there was a bottom that I certainly found, and it was after like 4 tenders. Overall, would recommend because it was definitely bottomless drinks, if you can't tell by this review, so worth.
