Love that the owners have maintained and retained this wonderful building. Definitely an asset to the area. Try the teramisu and the creme brule as a treat

What a great place to dine, especially on a Summer’s day. Best outdoor arrangement with picnic tables dotted about on the lawn, each with its own umbrella and multigenerational groups mixing and mingling. The food is good quality and well prepared/presented. A pity one of our meals was served when the rest of us were more than half way through our meal. The sever apologised, but it detracted from making this a 5 star rating. Will definitely return. Forgot to add that dogs are welcome

Great place with nice pub food and an outdoor area. Owned by one family in the neighborhood. Clean. Friendly, helpful staff. One of the best pubs I've been to. Highly recommend. I had a grilled cheese on sourdough and was amazing. Good portion. Decent selection of beers.

The Northcote tavern is my go to on a sunny day, My mum is in her own world now so when I can take her on an adventure we always enjoy our time roaming Northcote point and it's wonderful old world tavern. Reminds her of home. The food is always good, the special curry's are really tasty, the staff are lovely the environment works really well for us which is hard to find for my wee gang. Thanks to the local tavern

Sunday roast ran out at 5-30, shows how popular. Settle for another dish excellent pub food. Great place but gets crowed late Saturday afternoon early evening. Staff always very pleasant.

I came with 15 residents from my retirement village. Our meals were fantastic and large, Service was quick and friendly. The only negative, is if you come in the main doors there are no ramps for wheelchairs or walkers. Ordering food was a little bit of a task, once again with two stairs to go down to the kitchen and nothing to hold onto, a ramp would have been great for the elderly. But over all enjoyed by all, I’ll be back.

The Northcote Tav is a great pub for a lazy Sunday lunch, or watching the Rugby on their many big screens. Food is really good quality, never disappointed. The cozy Highlander Bar is a calmer place. The sports mad public bar is a great place to catch up with the mates and watch some sports. There is a big outdoor area that is perfect for a Sunday afternoon and family friendly.

Fantastic pub which some how mixes the old school with a new feel and vibe. Great staff, good food choice and great ales. Real throwback to so many of the good pubs from back in a day but with a good modern feel.

The rice bowl was amazing, good and fresh salmon. The tiramisu was a bit watery. The food took long time.

A nice place full of history for brunch or lunch and a beer in the summer sunshine ☀️ We had a bar plate of Korean Fried Chicken Bites and Bangers and Mash. The portion size of the Chicken Bites was huge and the pork and fennel sausages were very tasty. The mash, onion relish, green peas and rosemary gravy gave me a welcome reminder of home 🇬🇧 It is a place we'd probably revisit before leaving Auckland.

Fish and chips were crispy and delicious. Pork belly with caramelised pineapple and Asian salad was sensational. Definitely a must try.

A great old building. Huge potential. An Ok selection of beers but could be significantly improved with a bit of effort. Had the Ruben grilled cheese sandwich. Greasy would be the best description.

Northcote tavern is a hidden gem. It is one of the few historic pubs left in Auckland with the first hotel built in the 1850’s, over 160 years ago!! Definitely worth the visit. You’ll find traditional pub food and beers. There’s loads of space to spread out and enjoy the atmosphere of this old school pub.

  • 5/5 Mark S. 4 months ago on Google
Known as 'The Trough', the tavern is a step back in time to a more traditional local pub that always has a small hotel, accommodation upstairs. Great food of a really good size from the sub contracting caterers. Grab a drink and sit in the old bar or outside in the sun or under an umbrella.

We have been to the Northcote Tavern many times and will continue to return. The food is excellent with a good range of options. Don’t take away the wooden sauces/cutlery box to your table though! We got a big “telling off” for doing this (just enough cutlery for 4) other tables had the wooden boxes on their table too! We were told we were “depriving other customers” Ooops! We could have been informed in a nicer manner! Other than that one incident, we had a great Sunday lunch! It was a lovely day and the garden was full with families enjoying the sun and food! We will be back!

We only ate fries. Service at the bar was warm and friendly. Lots of families and kids, but we sat in the smoking area, outside the back of the main bar - there were only vapers - and no children. Families tended to sit on the big grass area out back. I found the wine list disappointing.

LOVE THIS PLACE! Reminds of a UK proper pub and I always love coming here for the service, the beer garden , the atmosphere and the food and drink selections! Great roast, great staff too! I wish it was closer to where I live in the city but well worth the journey out and the Uber back 😉

Had a tasty meal (pork belly) and beer in the outdoor dining area. Nice relaxed atmosphere. They even gave a free plate a rice for the young one. Much appreciated.

You can never go wrong at the Tav! The food is delicious, the two bars, garden bar and big lawn there's a spot for everyone. The staff are always very friendly and welcoming.

Great spot for meeting friends and family. Family friendly setting with a large green area beside premises. Do note that their previous kitchen is closed and currently, as of around 17th April 2023 there is an Indonesian food cart to provide yummy food.

  • 5/5 Tristan S. 10 months ago on Google
Great, traditional pub with an amazingly large outdoor seating space. Reasonable prices and very good food in a lovely subburb. Despite being pretty central, it's location at the end of the point means there's little traffic and it's easy to find a park (light beers in tap for the driver). Only unusual thing is you need to order food directly from the kitchen (think it might be a separate business), but that's pretty easy to figure out!

One of the best taverns in Auckland, been here only a few times over the years but has a great atmosphere, friendly staff and delectable menu and plenty of room.

Went for brunch. The kitchen staff were awesome, very friendly, professional but could have a laugh with them too. A dynamic team. The food was on point. We had the Kaarage Chicken and Fish and Chips. A great way to spend a Saturday morning.

  • 5/5 Matt L. 1 year ago on Google
Love the food, they care about doing the little things and staples right. The beer garden is awesome and the rest of it is nostalgic pub life that reminds you that this is maybe what we used to do and forgot all about how good it was. Worth multiple visits

Came with a small group and it is still as busy as I remember. Very family friendly, and the staff are professional and gracious. And the food? We ordered Fish and Chips, Bangers and Mash, the Wagyu burger and Karaage chicken. Other than my brother in law's chicken being quite dry, it was perfect and exactly what we needed on a drizzly day.

Have not been here for at least 30 years so the visit was a treat. Excellent in every respect. Large menu, very fair prices, great atmosphere, great range of drinks, friendly, professional and knowledgeable staff. Great see that it is still a great place to go. Highly recommended.

Great Tavern, and in general one of the best hospitality venues in Auckland. It’s family friendly, dog friendly and overall a great experience. The staff are doing their best with covid restrictions and are so polite and accomodating. I’ve never had a bad experience here and will return over and over. Great food, great selection of beverages and the best staff.

👍👍 I have been going to this place for at least the past 35 years. In fact I helped tile the baby pool with my father when I was about 10 years old. (recently been retiled). 👍👍 April 2023 - Second time here with 12yr old daughter and after a year, the portion sizes don't seem as filling although we did purposely go in having fasted for 20hrs so maybe that was the difference and not effects of inflation.
