Really enjoy going to Cheltenham. One of the last bastions of quiet beaches with a beautiful outlook onto Rangitoto. We typically stop at the Supermarket on the way to grab stuff so we can hang out for 4-5hrs. Some big trees for shelter as well.

This tends to be a "local" beach. It is a great setting but the people who live around here regard it as their own private property and tend to be unfriendly to people from outside the area. It is worth a visit if you are in the area but don't make a special trip to visit this beach if it is a long journey.

One of the nicest beaches in Auckland. Best for swimming when tide is mid to high as bottom is very flat. Sea is usually calm, but exposed in North East to easterly winds. Good access at multiple points along the beach and from the beach to North head.

Amazing safe beach for kiddos to enjoy. Shady spots to sit and warm ocean temp. Always a lovely view of Rangitoto and North Head. Better than Narrow Neck for the younger ones. Nice shops for snacks within a 2 min drive. Lots of free street parking.

Gorgeous Beach looking out to the Volcanic Island of Rangitoto. So close to the Auckland CBD. So good to see people playing, relaxing and enjoying life in Paradise.

An incredible, unique beach. At low tide you can walk right out into the ocean and it will still only be ankle deep. You can walk all the way to Narrowneck beach or up the nearby hill with old WW2 bunkers.

Beautiful beach in Devonport. Swimming is best at high tide. And it's great to walk around Maungauika (North Head) when it's closer to low tide. Great spot for taking photos. Popular beach for paddleboarding, kayaking and also kite surfing and foiling.

Quiet or wild, high tide or low, Cheltenham is a lovely beach. With a low tide that exposes hundreds of metres of sand, this beach is the first of many beautiful beaches spanning the North Shore's east coast as you head out of the Waitemata Harbour past neighbouring North Head. A favourite spot for swimmers utilizing the raft for diving, children learning to sail, dozens of para surfers skimming the shallow bay mirrored by dog walkers and even navy squads training.

Such a cute beach and so popular with sun bathers and swimmers, walkers and picnics in the beautiful yellow sand. The Victorian homes near the sea shore are very beautiful.

Lovely beach and reserve. Beautiful wildlife, pretty quiet at low season. At the end of the beach you have some cool hikes which are beautiful on sunny days.

A pretty beach with a fantastic view of Rangitoto. Place to sit, and is a good beach at high tide to swim. Even has a cold water shower to rinse off. Might try McHugh's Restaurant for the $30 three course deal when we are next in Auckland. Will be nice in winter to enjoy the view in side out of the weather.

Really stunning beach for an in city one. Lots of on street parking. Toilets are available. It's a calm beach with no waves so great for kids and older people. Few flies etc which I am not a fan of but nothing too hectic.

My favourite Auckland beach. Good swimming, nice sand, heaps of grassy areas and big trees for shade, plus North Head above it to explore.

Cheltenham Beach is our local beach and it's beautiful. Many people walk their dogs here and there are off-leash times available. There are often kite surfers here and at low tide you can walk all the way around to Takapuna if you time the tides right and make sure you keep an eye on the times. Great for picnics, sun bathing, shell collecting and swimming especially. When the tide is out it is waaaay out, so you have to walk out a fair bit of you're keen to swim but it's doable. Beautiful Spanish style home right near the beach. Great spot to bring the family, with a park including swings, slides and see saw for the kids. There are a few entrances/roadways and some parking available but best to park on the main road. Drop off your stuff first. All in all a fabulous beach, popular in summer and beautiful views out to Rangitoto Island of course! Enjoy your visit to Cheltenham beach!

One of the most accessible spots for kitesurfing beginners. Very shallow. But mind the tide because it does not work in high tide

Most beautiful an hour each side of the tide! Lots of little pockets to enter the beach down side streets, recommend going a little further down from narrow neck for easier parking and less busy spots

At low tide you can go at least a couple hundred meters into the sea and the water would only reach mid calf. We went on a weekday arvo and it was pretty quiet. Public toilets and changing rooms available at Balmain Reserve (near mid way of the stretch of the beach). Outdoor shower at Matai Road beach entrance.

A nice calm beach to enjoy. A little sand for Child's play when tide is in. Tide goes quite a way out during low tide. As a local it's our go to, as it's often sheltered from the wind than it's surrounding beaches.

Absolutely love our local beach. Stunning sunrises over Rangitoto. A favourite for kite surfers when the wind picks up. Lovely calm water ideal for SUP and kayaking for kids. At low tide the kids can walk about 200m in and play in the puddles. Lots of space to have a picnic in one of the adjacent parks or on the beach

Absolutely beautiful, not a soul on the beach, waders feeding at the water line and Rangitoto looking like a giant guarding the main land.
