👍👍 Great park and dog beach with excellent drink fountain for dog and good toilet facility. A favourite swimming beach with dog in summer, lovely for a walk and ball game in winter. Thanks to 'Blake' (see photo) for installing rubbish bin beside stairway. Great idea. People often mention beach, park, stairs, area, good, history, Castor, kids, Kennedy, Great,

Amazing gun defence and tunnel system installed in 1940. Quite a bit of history and some clever thinking by the War Office/ MoD about the barracks. The stairs to the beach are closed, Rotary Club could do with some support to relocate it and make it available again.

A lovely hidden gem in the north shore. The place is visited by a few people to exercise, bring kids and dogs to explore. Amazing views, great space for a bit of a escape during the week

Literally only good if you want to exhaust yourself on the stairs and like a beach with rocks. Not for swimming in my honest opinion. Great exercise spot though 😂 just be prepared for endless stairs. Good view at the top.

Excelent park for children to play, dogs to run and go for a swim, and families to spend the day or do a picnic. The park has a historic feel and the battery towers are well preserved. Caution: The beach is currently closed due to flooding and ground slipping risk.

They need to do some maintenance. It is very unique place and very nice. We went there but the track was closed. I think because of how dangerous atm but I wish it could have been maintenance more than this. It is very beautiful place and hold many memories and history.

Good park, playground with at the end of the park there is a long and scenic trail along the cliff plus you can get to Castor Bay Beach from a trail there. Nice park with some war related history.

Kennedy Memorial Park can be accessed from the Beach Road, Castor Bay in the North Shore of Auckland NZ. It is named to commemorate the late US President J.F. Kennedy. It is a WWII historic building and is suitable for small group picnics and a very popular venue for children’s birthday parties. The historical tunnels are open for guided tours on the second Sunday of each month, between 11.00 AM and 2.00 PM. Military Historian volunteers will guide you through the tunnels and explain the background to each feature. There are pictorial displays to support the information on the guns and you will learn about one of the finest examples of military defensive camouflage still extant today. History of this park goes back to WWII where the gun emplacements and tunnels you now see are the remnants of a 6-inch gun battery constructed during 1941 and 1942 as part of Auckland's World War II defenses. Castor Bay was one of three-gun batteries whose purpose was to defend the northern approaches to the Rangitoto Channel, the others were at Whangaparaoa and Motutapu. Apart from the WWII history, Kennedy Park is very popular because of its long, steep wooden staircase leading to the beach below. It is a great place to practice climbing steep staircases such as Devils staircase in the Tongariro alpine track. You will be challenged to descend and ascend a steep short span of roughly about 150 steep steps in 300 meters. The view from the top of the staircase over the Rangitoto island and the surrounding sea is magnificent!!

Kennedy park is a nice and decent sized park in the close proximity to Castor Bay. There are a couple of walkways which join the coastal walkway and one can easily get down to the beach from this park. Children's play area has well maintained rides and fun activities. The location is nice and handy. Access to the park is easier by car instead of public transport. Ample car parking is available on the area which makes for a comfortable outing. Highly recommended for half a day out with kids.

Multiple ways to get here either from Castor Bay beach area or one of the access points (including the main entrance) on Beach Road. Really large park with beautiful views of the Hauraki Gulf along the edge of the park. There is a walkway (Kennedy Park Walkway) that joins the park to Castor Bay beach area. The playground is near the parking lot and there is a path from the parking area to the battery where you can see the gun emplacements. Following the path further leads you to a staircase which goes down to the beach and is used by people for exercise. There are also other WWII facilities in the area. Not much tree cover in the park so not ideal for really hot sunny days. It does have a lot of open space so nice for a run around.

It’s fairly good but not recommended as stairs towards beach is closed and to access beach you need to drive to Castor bay reserve, parking is extremely limited and beach is over crowded. It’s good for half day or few hours trip.

A great place where you can have a nice walk at the beach, take your kids to the playground or play some petanque with your friends and family.
