Easy check in/out, rooms are clean and spacious. Parking is quite tricky as it's limited but great if you can get a spot. Staff is friendly and prices are extremely reasonable. The location is great and very walkable to places to eat if needed.

["A little Auckland gem.\nWe came early, yet were welcomed and the staff tried to accommodate us. Even though our room wasn't ready. Did they tell us to wait? Nope. They put us in a better room right away.\nDate change at the last minute, so helpful and considerate.\nA minor issue out of control of the hotel \/ staff was quickly and thoughtfully taken care of.\nRestaurant and staff, very nice and delicious breakfast.\nAlso, what I value the very most, the honesty !! When they didn't have to be, they were. Straight up. Thank you for that.\nWill stay again.",null,[0,178]]

Didn't stay there but had a conference there. Conference room was good. Fitted our conference nicely. Great lunch. Would go there again even if it was just for a meal

Loved this hotel! Has a pub for meals, the staff are easy to deal with and super friendly. Comfy and great prices too! The pool is a bonus if you have kiddies get them in there and burn some energy. The rooms are really nice too! I preferred to stay away from the main suite which I think ended up being better but make sure you get in early if you want a spot in that car park.

Our room was not quite available on arrival but we sat by the pool and waited. The staff at reception were really friendly and welcoming, we had booked 2 rooms and they were a long way away from each other which was interesting. The hotel is quirky as it is various buildings connected to each other. The younger people in our group enjoyed the pool. The rooms were clean and comfortable and both rooms had air conditioning. We all slept well And enjoyed the complimentary coffee and tea in the room. There were loads of complimentary body washes etc in the rooms. The only issues were key cards not working initially and the beds in one of the rooms were very skinny, smaller than a normal single bed.

We did not stay but wanted to try the $25 English Roast meal on Sunday nights, been wanting to go for a long while. I am English and loved the meal beautiful and hot, a very generous portion and a great cosy pub, like we have in England. Will definitely go back, the staff were friendly and accommodating, a lovely experience

It the year 2022, I maybe fussy but the place can be great with some upgrades. More and better TV channels even YouTube, Netflix, etc. Some Milk 330ml bottles and complimentary water bottles would be great. It has a nice bar and great meals, but I was situated across the road, so ordering room service was a great service, allowing me to kick back, study until my meal arrived. When checking in It looked like there was an indoor pool, but there was very little information regarding it. In fact there was very little information about what the place and city has to offer.

We didn't stay at the hotel but we did have a very good Sunday Roast meal and it was super delicious. Also affordable for a restaurant in Auckland. Good music and atmosphere in restaurant. Friendly staff. Excellent service.

Nice room with separate shower and toilet area. 2 large beds and fridge. Limited car parking area for the amount of rooms. Within walking distance of Eden Park.

Excellent rooms, very comfortable beds, great bathroom. Friendly service, but.. Room a bit cold and heating blows over your face in bed. No room service if staying more than 1 night. Good restaurant and pub. Nice food, little on expensive side, over $30 or a hamburger. Parking away from rooms.

Was worried to stay here given the current rating. Room was definitely warm, very clean and cozy. Check in went well and the staff were faultless with reception going the extra mile to make things easy. This room was the cheapest in Auckland at the time, and I cannot fault one thing. Regarding the others comments about heating, the heater was very old but is the warmest heater I've ever seen in a motel. I'd definitely be back.

I liked the size of my room for the price I paid for it. It was located in a nice area with good options for food. And you can easily get around town with public transportation with bus stops conveniently located in front of the hotel. I do have to say that I was disappointed to find that their machines in the fitness center were faulty as it was one of the reasons I chose to stay there. Another reason I opted for it was because of the pool but I never got to use it while there. But it was quite popular among the other guests (especially kids) who visited around the same time as me. Staff was quite helpful and offered housekeeping daily although I didn't need them. And during checkout, the worker at the time offered to call me a ride but I opted for the bus instead.

Visited the restaurant with a group of work colleagues. Service was extremely slow, none of the workers appeared to understand that a group having a meal together should all receive their orders at roughly the same time. My group's experience was that there was an unexplained time delay between the first person's dinner arriving and the last person's dinner of well over 30 minutes. When this was complained about, no apology or explanation was offered. Instead the duty manager came over and was extremely rude and officious, not to mention lacking professionalism. We decided that we would not bother with dessert, so that was a sales opportunity lost by the manager because of their rudeness. The poor service renders the food irrelevant. I will certainly never go near this place again.

The staff were nice, the rooms were not. The room was cold, there’s a loud mini fridge right next to the very uncomfortable bed. The bedding felt like the most meagre cheapest possible bedding available. Rooms are not sound proof whatsoever, can hear neighbouring rooms coughing, kids crying, doors slamming. Spa pool was not functional. Internet was unusably slow.

I really can’t fault this hotel or the pub. We just came back from Australia where we paid 3x the price, and this was so much nicer. Lovely rooms, ample towels and toiletries, and top service and lovely food from the staff in the pub. Very comfortable nice stay, thank you!

Great service. Nice hotel and pub inside. Last room at end of hall was a little cold. Very old pump on wall very noisey. It did warm up eventually. Otherwise nice clean room. Lovely staff.

They made us wait almost 1hr for our check in (we arrived 2pm punctual and even after the wait they didn’t offer us any compensation, the staff just offered a refund and for us to find another place where to stay) The place os quite outdated. The room was ok, tidy and beds pretty comfortable.

Service and staff were great. Room was tidy. We went to go for a morning swim before checkout at 10am and found the pool is closed until 10am 🤦‍♂️. We went for the buffet breakfast. It was quite pricey for how basic it was. Unfortunately everything was very under cooked. Scrambled eggs were still half liquid, bacon was white and chewy though I found one half crispy piece when it was topped up. out of maybe 10 available sausages I found one that had a hint of brown on one end, like it had actually touched the grill, if only for a second. The only thing actually cooked were hash browns so everyone just ate those. You could hear the kitchen people saying "we need more hash browns" "but I just filled the hash browns". Was kind of amusing. The lady next to us was quite upset and was tossing up if she should ask for a refund because there was basically nothing to eat. Considering what she'd paid anyway. The whole time I was thinking "this wouldn't be so bad if there was actually some toast to go with this". As we were leaving we saw the toaster across the other side of the room behind a pillar 😂. Shambles. I would stay here again as it was a fair price for a decent sleep near Eden Park. I wouldn't eat here again. Unless I really didn't like someone and I wanted them to stop hanging around me 😂

The staff were friendly. Check in and out was easy. Off street parking right outside our room was brilliant. Plenty of towels. The kitchen had a toast and microwave which was handy. The room was cold and there were no spare blankets. The heat pump did a good job heating though. The mattress was uncomfortable. There was something liquid maybe or something spilled down the side of one of the bedside drawers. The people above you could hear walking around like elephants all night. The wifi wasn't the greatest but I had phone data so wasn't a hassle. The shower temperature fluctuates a lot. There are plenty of food places and supermarket close. It was away from places we needed to get to but for the price it was overall alright.

Wonderful British ambience. We chose the hotel mostly because of the 24-hour check-in (we arrived after midnight) and because there is a bus stop directly in front of the hotel (as we wanted to avoid the unfamiliar left-hand traffic in Auckland during jet lag). Both worked out perfectly. The three of us stayed in a suite with 2 bedrooms. The suite was spacious, clean and had everything we needed. We also had a very good breakfast in the adjoining restaurant. We were very happy with the room, the service and the restaurant and can only recommend the hotel.

Awesome spot has bar Restaurant pool, has everything you need in the rooms, was perfect for me and my daughter. Biggest downfall was the noise from the people in the unit above us, hearing every movement they made, was frustrating, some sound proofing would have made me give more stars in my review, because apart from that, and the poor wifi connection probably caused by being across the road in the other half of the hotel, it was perfect, just what we needed. Awesome staff friendly, rooms simple but convenient, could do with slight upgrades such as detergent bottle rather then a pump bottle lol. Drawers very tetramental they fall out very easily, so be careful hehe. But thankyou for having us Surrey Hotel! I would definitely come back but would make sure I was in a top unit 😄

Not what we booked as our original accommodation fell through 🤷‍♂️ went from a modern city apartment block in central Auckland to 10 min drive out of town to less modern lodgings🤷‍♂️

The rooms are great with firm but comfortable beds. We had one super hard thick pillow and the rest where softer (good for variety). Loved the modern decor inside the rooms with a very tasteful bathroom renovation. Felt very fancy. Quite disappointed that we couldn't oder breakfast when we showed up the morning of our one night stay.

After a horrifying flight to Auckland, we arrived at this hotel at 4 am! Thankfully, there was someone to greet us at the reception. The man was lovely and saw how exhausted we were, so he let us park our car right near our room for free during our stay, which we hugely appreciated. The overall hotel is beautiful, and we loved how it looked, old-fashioned but charming. The rooms were basic, but clean and comfortable. Our hotel was well equipt to keep us happy for 3 nights. One thing we would like to give feedback on is the door and windows, which we felt weren't safe for our toddler. He could've easily opened them and escaped, so we had to make barricades. with our luggage at night to keep him safely inside. The location is tops, only approximately 10-15 minutes drive from Auckland city and 35 minutes from Auckland international airport. The hotel also runs a small pub with a restaurant, but we didn't dine there. Their staff were always helpful, friendly, and accommodating.

Couldn't fault the place! Friendly staff from housekeeping to reception to the bar. Comfortable, clean and well equipped rooms. Ample parking and a great location. Food in the bar was excellent. Would stay again if I returned to Auckland.

Wow, from pulling up to the Hotel and seeing the run down building to the interior musty cigarette smell and then the rude girl at the counter, we didn’t have high hopes. This was confirmed when we had to call police as there was no answer from reception to assist with an incident occurring on site. This was understandably out of the Hotel’s control but why is there no after hours service and also no sympathy given we had 1 hour sleep. Mouldy ceilings, windows that are so broken they do not shut, and fearing for safety. Would never recommend.

we recently stayed at the hotel/motel,we had booked a rm for three nights in the motel part, the room absolutely smelt to the point i got sick, when we complained we were upgraded to the hotel accomandation, although the rm was clean a tidy, the toilet seat was broken, the fridge keep on coming on and was so loud making it difficult to sleep,we didnt stay the three nights we left after two nights, as a former wphs officer the maintenance, attention to detail on this property is sadly lacking ,very unhappy

We stayed in a "recently" renovated studio, it looked really nice but things were starting to break like the AC remote and cabinetry. What was meant to be a queen bed was really just a double so my husband slept in the single so I'd be comfortable (I'm 7 months pregnant). Both the beds were uncomfortable, it felt like a thin layer of foam over cardboard. We both still have sore backs 3 days later. The walls were paper thin but thankfully the other residents for the night were mostly quiet except for one incident. The room was clean but the tiled area was slippery like they hadn't actually cleaned off the cleaning product. The staff were lovely at check in. We won't stay here again.

Stay here was enjoyed. For a city pub it was reasonably quiet. Older style of building meant lots of stairs and no lift. Enjoyed a homestyle breakfast and evening meal. Big advantage is location.

  • 5/5 David F. 1 year ago on Google
Loved the service, loved the location and parking, loved the old fashioned style of the building, our room was updated with new furnishings, similar to what you would find at majority of new hotels The two styles and service made for a very homely stay.

Stayed here for business purposes and I didnt think much to the room, the floor looked like it hadnt been vacuumed and the sheets had marks on them. The Wifi was very poor so I had to hotspot from my phone. The shower took ages to heat up as well, the stairs to my room were very weak and felt like they would break. Only positive is the location and the service from the two receptionists i dealt with

Rented a room here as a place to spend the day, get ready and store our belongings before a concert. We did not stay overnight. Room was large and well equipped. The room design was basic and some of the furniture was showing its age, but overall it was very clean, well presented and comfortable. The bar and restaurant had a great atmosphere and the pizza was fantastic. The buildings and grounds have a great character to them. All the staff we encountered were friendly and welcoming. The complex also features an indoor pool which we did not notice when we booked, so weren't prepared to use. Very pleased with our time here and for the price it was well worth it.

Reviewing the restaurant. Hugo the waiter was a rare gem. He knew the food and recommended with a genuine care. Food wasn't fantastic- eg/ the sausages and mashed potato were to be fennel but had no sage flavour and the chicken had said Wasabe taste but I couldn't taste Wasabe. But Hugo shone like the hospo star he clearly is.

The rooms we showing signs of age and although basic, they were very clean and the linen crisp & fresh and towels fluffy. The only real concern was the state of the partially exposed deck & outside wooden steps which were slippery & well worn. The quality & quantity of portions for breakfast, dinner and Sunday roasts was outstanding compared to the local cafe eateries in Surrey Crescent itself. All in all it was good value & very friendly (and helpful) staff. If you want to have Sunday roast, you must book, otherwise you'll miss out, as we did on the 1st Sunday of our stay.

If you love chill, old style pub atmosphere, go here. Perfect jazz lounge music and comfortable leather chairs. If there was a six star option, that's what I would put.

This is a go to place when I stay in Auckland. Close to city, attractions, shops and great restaurants. Lovely clean comfortable rooms... Beds are wonderful... Nearly as good as mine🤣 helpful friendly staff.

A lovely little spot centrally located near the zoo and not to far from th CBD. Great food and amenities. My only complaint was that the bed wouldn't move away from the wall. If you are a constant moving sleeper like me. Will definitely stay again.

Great experience staying with family with 3 young kids. Really nice 2 bedroom apartment with newly refurbished bathroom and comfy beds and pillows. Super reasonably priced for location and lovely staff. Although not in city centre, it had unlimited parking and only 2 km out and super close to Ponsonby.

The room was okay but the cups were dirty, the wifi password wasn't given, the phone did not work and we were not given enough towels. The shower wasn't too clean and it's far from disability friendly. When we managed to get the wifi password, it was very patchy. The service and staff were lovely

3/4 plates were served, leaving one of our party left waiting for 35 minutes with zero communication. Not the end of the world, but they served other tables roasts offering us no explanation or alternate options. Minor problem, easy fix: prioritise communicate and serving tables together. Otherwise a great place for an affordable roast

Good place to stay. The barman/chef/waiyer/ran the whole restaurant is a dime a dozen. He was amazing at his job and we have respect for the way he had everything under control (Guan I think). Chefs food is next level good. The karage chicken is a dish I had to eat every time we dined there. Just a lot of passion in his food and presentation, we will be back here for sure.

I had a very nice stay and didn’t find any major issues. The room was clean and tidy and the staff were attentive and helpful. Minor issues with the room keys but someone was always available at the front desk to resolve. The restaurant downstairs was very convenient and offered very good options for dinner. Try their pizza 🍕😋

Room was good value but the real selling point is the Surrey pub across the road. The food was surprisingly great, Highly recommended the lamb shank. The Chef is obviously very experience and Juan (JP) customer service was honestly next level he did not stop and the main reason if we lived here this would be our frequent local pub. Thankyou.

Our family choose to stay here as often as we travel. Nothing beats there professional front line service, the house maids serve over & above, rooms are always spotless & all amenities always provided. It's an amazing hotel, that truly caters for all needs. One of the best in Auckland & we will continue to stay here everything. Thank you

Stayed in the hotel deluxe suite with 2 others! Pros: - rooms were big - beds were comfortable and clean - good location - free parking (quite a few spots) - breakfast food was yum (didnt try dinner or lunch options) - great receptionist - it was quiet when we stayed (no noisy neigbours) - toiletries provided were ok - freeview tv Cons: - no room service if staying for more than a day (was a bit of annoyance especially when having to go to the reception desk to get toilet paper), not sure if they put in clean towels either - could have been cleaner for the price we paid especially for a 4 star hotel - no sink in the foyer or microwave, didnt feel comfortable eating at the room because of this - heater took a while warming up - no extra duvets, provided Overall would rate it a 3 out of 5 stay, because it did the job in finding a nice place to stay that was conveniently located to Trusts arena and other surburbs like Ponsonby, Henderson, Mt Roskill etc. I was disappointed though that at the end of the stay we werent able to use our breakfast vouchers of $20 x 3 people. As together we spent around $56 but it wasnt compensated and it wasnt very clear either that you had to spend over $20 per person. I believe though one of the meals could have been compensated and would have appreciated the staff to point this out. It was a sad way to end our trip. But overall do recommend if you need an ok place to stay for a couple of nights and arent looking for anything too expensive. Do remember to read the fine print on those food vouchers though!
