Last week Saturday visited 1947 Eatery, it was my very first visit there. The experience all in all was good. The food was amazing and the portion size was really good. I went there along with my friend. Really nice staff and got really great service. We ordered Chilli Chicken, Dry Goat Curry, Achari Baigan, Tandoori Rotis, Chicken Biryani and some soft drinks. For the dessert we had Gajar ka Halwa. Everything was superb. We had to takeaway the leftovers as we couldn’t finish anything that we ordered.

Excellent service from the moment we walked in. The food is amazing, portion size is perfect. We had the butter chicken, goat , tandori and okra meals and all were perfect. The meals come with the standard species so you cannot change the hotness level apart from getting some chillies on the side. Would definetly visit this place again in the future. Only reason for the 4 stars and not 5 is the inability to change the hotness level.

Where do I start. The only word can be Perfect. I have been stuck in provincial New Zealand for a couple of years and then walked passed 1947. The smell made me stop. I walked straight in and make a booking for the following evening. Chilli chicken, Lamb chop, and a chicken dish (second on the menu) I don't know the name. Honestly the best dishes I have had in several years... period!!! Watching the cocktails being made was a delight and you must try the Pretzel dessert... OMG wow... 1947 is a top restaurant. It was absolutely packed and deserves to flourish through the difficult fight back after Covid. Thank you thank you thank you

Stepping into culinary bliss at 1947 Eatery. From the moment we entered we were greeted with warm smiles and impeccable service. We had mentioned in our reservation that we were celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary. Onkar the duty manager, went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience. The ambiance is a perfect blend of elegance and coziness, setting the stage for a truly unforgettable dining experience. They have an autorickshaw in the restaurant! 🛺 They have a great selection of cocktails & spirits, definitely try Kingfisher beer 🍻 And as for the food? Prepare to have your taste buds transported to a whole new level of deliciousness. Every bite is a symphony of flavors, beautifully plated and crafted with passion. Authentic Indian food, we loved the Dum Chicken, Pani Puri, Seekh Kebabs, Roomali Roti, Samosa Chaat & the Jalebi. Trust me, you won't want to leave! 🍽️😍 🌟🥂 Definitely recommended! The best Indian food I’ve had in Auckland!

The butterchicken was pretty good, we enjoyed the tandoorichicken, freshly cooked we could still smell the charcoal. The lamb pepper fry was full of flavour. It was a great experience.

This is my favourite Indian restaurant in Auckland. Of course, authentic Indian food like chicken curry and naan is delicious, but the best dish is lamb chops. It is spicy, Indian-flavoured, and very yummy. Each serving contains four chops, but you can add more in increments of one. The restaurant is child-friendly with kids' chairs, but there may not be much on the menu that children can eat as well.

Nice Ambiance. We ordered some Mocktails, Pani Puri, Chicken Biryani and Dum Chicken with few different types of Naans. 😋 Very lovely staff, respectful and fast. ❤️ Our orders came on time. Warm plates with yummy food. Everything was delicious. 😋😋 Thank you for your hospitality. 🙏 Next time in Auckland, will definitely come and try other meals at your eatery. 🌸🦋🌸🦋🌸🦋

A fantastic place in central Auckland to enjoy delicious Indian offerings. Attentive service, chic ambience and a nice glow and hmmm in the restaurant. Always feel secured dining in an Indian restaurant that has many Indian diners. We loved the pani puri, a burst of sweet, sour, chill and tangy flavors in one small bite. Chilli chicken had a beautiful crunchy texture and the sauce on the chicken had all the pleasures of a divine bite. Samosa chat was bang on as well. For mains we tried daal and Palau Kofta. Dahl had a beautiful smooth texture and perfect spiciness. Palak was cooked to perfection as well. Dumplings chicken, however, was the highlight. Great creamy texture and smoky flavor to this rich mughlai dish. Parantha and garlic Naan, both top notch. Jalebi for dessert looked beautiful but was too sour for my north Indian palate where Jalebi is not fermented that far before frying. Overall a fantastic place and worth going back just for cocktails and small bites.

This is one of the best indian fine dining I have been to in aukland or NZ for that matter. Lovely ambiance, exceptionally great service and absolutely fantastic food. From presentation to the flavors. It was recommended to us by our friends and we would recommend this to anyone who loves indian food or wants to give it a try. Also very good cocktails, just about everything you expect from a fine dining experience.

1947 Eatry is an Indian restaurant that takes you on a nostalgic journey back in time, celebrating the flavors and essence of India's rich culinary heritage. As soon as I stepped inside, I was transported to a bygone era, and the attention to detail in their theme left me in awe. The interior of 1947 Eatry is simply mesmerizing. The decor is reminiscent of the pre-independence era, with vintage posters, antique artifacts, and traditional Indian artwork adorning the walls. The dim, warm lighting added to the ambiance, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere that made me feel like I was stepping into an old-world Indian bistro. The seating arrangements were tastefully done, with comfortable chairs and booths, providing an intimate setting for both couples and groups. The soft instrumental Indian music playing in the background further enhanced the dining experience, setting the perfect mood for an unforgettable culinary adventure. As I perused the menu, I was delighted by the diverse selection of dishes, showcasing the regional flavors of India. The menu featured a delightful mix of classic favorites and lesser-known regional specialties, catering to both those well-versed in Indian cuisine and those eager to explore its nuances. For starters, I opted for the classic samosas and the tangy chaat platter. The samosas were perfectly crispy on the outside, with a deliciously spiced potato and pea filling. The chaat platter was a burst of flavors, combining crispy papdi, chickpeas, tamarind chutney, and yogurt, creating a delightful explosion of sweet, tangy, and spicy tastes. For the main course, I couldn't resist trying the Butter Chicken, a signature dish that many rave about. The tender pieces of succulent chicken were generously coated in a luscious, creamy tomato-based sauce, infusing the dish with a velvety richness that made it simply irresistible. Accompanied by fragrant basmati rice and freshly baked garlic naan, the meal was a true indulgence. Additionally, I explored the regional specialties, ordering the fiery Andhra Chicken and the aromatic Kashmiri Rogan Josh. The Andhra Chicken was a spicy delight, with a perfect balance of heat and flavor, while the Rogan Josh featured tender chunks of lamb simmered in a delightful blend of spices, leaving me enchanted by its aromatic allure. The service at 1947 Eatry was top-notch. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and passionate about their cuisine, making the dining experience all the more enjoyable. They were happy to provide recommendations based on individual preferences, which added a personal touch to the overall experience. What made my visit to 1947 Eatry truly unforgettable was the surprise they had in store for me. As it happened to be my birthday, they brought out a beautiful cake adorned with candles and sang the heartfelt rendition of "Happy Birthday" as everyone in the restaurant joined in. It was a heartwarming moment that filled me with joy, and I will always cherish the memory of that special celebration. To conclude, 1947 Eatry is a hidden gem that offers an unforgettable dining experience. The carefully crafted theme inside takes you back in time, immersing you in the charm of India's past. The food is a true reflection of India's diverse culinary landscape, with each dish prepared to perfection. The attentive service and warm ambiance make it a perfect choice for any occasion, whether it's a romantic dinner for two or a gathering of friends and family. If you are a lover of Indian cuisine or are simply curious to explore its treasures, I wholeheartedly recommend visiting 1947 Eatry. This restaurant's dedication to authenticity, impeccable flavors, and outstanding service will undoubtedly leave you with cherished memories, like my unforgettable birthday celebration, and a desire to return for more.

The spicy level of the dishes on the Menu are preset with chilly symbols, one being mild, two for medium and three for very spicy. We started with the “Chilly Chicken” and the “Wannabe Drumsticks”. As a lover of chilly chicken dishes, I felt that as the customer, I should be given the option of choosing the level of spiciness. I immediately started sweating after the first few spoons. Maybe next time I might just skip the “Chilly Chicken”. For our mains we had the “Lamb Pepper Fry” and the “Bade Miyan Chicken” with garlic cheese naans. Both dishes were delicious and the spiciness of my chilly chicken was quickly forgotten. Our waiter was polite and professional. The restaurant was a bit dark. I noticed other customers using their phone torches to see the menu. Four star rating due to not having the option to choose the spice levels.

First time trying Indian Fusion and had an enjoyable experience! The serivce was impeccable with servers looking after their table very well! Warm and cozy ambience and feels very city night life with dim lighting of the restaurant enough to see the cutural interior design. Food came out very fast (except the Tandoori Chicken which the waiter said would take a bit longer). Each dish blasted with rich and fragrant flavours and spice level was just enough that you would feel a mere heat. We got pani puri and curry chips as appetisers, the goat curry, Tandoori chicken, with some garlic naan. The chips were loaded with creamy curry sauce and topped with mayo and cheese. The naan was fluffy and soft and went well as a carb to go with the goat curry as the gravy of that dish was a bit salty but the goat meat was tender and lean. The tandoori chicken came out with a nice and smoky charcoal smell with a glaze of sauce and the meat wasn't too dry. The restaurant is certainly a great choice for special occassions and caters to all eaters who may or may not be so familiar with Indian flavours but maintaining those unique fragrant notes of Indian spices in their dishes.

The ambience is so good !! Today we went for a family dinner the staff who attended us today was so patient with our order as me & my sister are extremely picky about what to eat . When I entered this place I felt a positive vibe 😍 , The presentation of the food and drinks were beyond beautiful , I swear I don't got words but it's way more nicer than Cassia , I would keep visiting this place whenever I feel like having something in Indian cuisine. I liked the food and drink although we were discouraged to get garlic naan to go with chilli chicken. This was an unnecessary advice as I’ve always had chili chicken with naan back home. Please make reservations before hand.

ordered from here twice, both times got the dry goat curry, and a couple of naan's. The taste of the curry helped me forget that the actual pieces of goat are minimal. Its quite pricey (as expected), as this place is a bit more fancy.. Leaving a 4* as i'm likely to return as i'm keen to try another dish.

Lovely place with character. Food is delicious with just the right amount of spice. We ordered a selection of dishes and had to make several requests for serving spoons as there were none. Service was prompt and friendly.

We love 1947 Eatery. Best butter chicken I’ve ever tried. The lamb chops and garlic bread are also delicious. Really good vibes and jazzy atmosphere in the restaurant, the Kiwi version of Dishoom in London.

(Visited on 4 September 2023, reviewed on 5 September 2023) Hands down one of the best Indian restaurants (probably THE best) in Auckland. We ordered a variety of options (Paneer Lagan, Keema Pav, Dry Goat curry, Rumali Roti, Naan, one of the chicken dishes, and South Indian-style brewed coffee). All were out of this world! And the staff who attended us were so initiative in asking whether we wanted more. I would definitely love to come back here again!🇮🇳

Such a solid experience, the pani puris were gorgeous pops of flavor wow. Omg the curry chips and cheese was so much flavor and spice, so delicious with the cheese! The street samosa chat is a symphony of textures, spice and taste, surprisingly enjoyed this very much. The chicken lollipops were my absolute favorite, I wanted to so badly take the entire tables share, they were so perfectly spiced, cooked and seasoned, trust me when I say there was not a lick of meat left. Those lamb chops were heavenly, not gamey at all and I was licking the sauce off the plate. The bang bang butter chicken probably deserves one less bang but it wasn’t bad.

This restaurant offers a perfect escape from the outside world with its inviting ambience, pleasant vibe, and cozy lighting. The waiters were friendly and attentive, adding to the overall enjoyable dining experience. The food was outstanding. I particularly loved the charming jugs that served water and the endless supply of peanuts, which added a thoughtful touch to the evening. Thank you for providing such a wonderful dining experience - I'll definitely be returning for more!

Came here for Auckland restaurant month menu. We decided on a late lunch; the restaurant was quiet, but seems like a good place for an intimate dinner. Service could have been a bit more attentive, but wasn’t too bad. The food was good; highlights include the malai chicken starter and the lamb and chicken mains. They cook with a tandoor here and the meat as incredibly tender and flavoursome. The quantity of food for the main courses was pretty good; we ended up packing a fair bit! All in all, a good experience and would like to come again for dinner

We had to ask for the seats to be cleaned and a chipped wine glass to be replaced, BUT this was done professionally and courteously. The staff were interactive and fun. The food was amazing. Well done. Only complaint. We were sat by the door on a cold, wet evening. Every time the door was opened, a cold draft came through. Maybe screening off the lower area of the partician would help

Food is good and delicious. Went with family including 5yr old for dinner and was accommodated very nicely. Clean open and inviting place; wonderful, kind and uniformed employees. All food items were reasonably priced. Our party must have tried almost everything off the menu and they finished it all praising the flavors of their food. I recommend this place highly for good Indian food.

Amazing dining experience at this authentic Indian restaurant. The staff is attentive and friendly and the ambience a perfect match. Loved the starters especially the crab dish. Our main courses were outstanding as well specially the lamb dish. The staff were extremely accommodating and shifted us to a more private dining space upon request. Would certainly be back soon.

Fantastic cocktails and food. The Alexander the Great cocktail is a must if you like less sweet, whiskey or bourbon type drinks. We ordered the okra fries and pani puri for snacks, and lamb chops and Dum Chicken for mains - soooo good!!!! Definitely stop here if in the downtown area. Absolutely amazing!
