Grossly Expensive , overrated and shocking. We went to the shop around midweek evening. We were welcomed by a lady at the main door. She said we have to order at the main entrance - she started explaining to us about the process and options (thought were having a museum tour). The menu is confusing and you have to ask if you want to taste. Complex ordering process either designed by a person who has no idea what is hospo service or designed complex to create queues and show the business is busy. I ordered some type of strawberry flavour scoop which is a very small portion for $13. It didn't taste like strawberry, tasted just like ice with flavor. Also they put heaps corn flakey stuff and nuts on the top were horrible and I wasn't asked if I want them. Oh well never again .....

Came here for dessert after a meal in the city. I'm glad I had saved room in my stomach as the servings here are pretty big. The menu boasts many choices of ice cream and how it's presented. When we couldn't decide they provided us with some nice taster cups which had way more than a typical ice cream store. The ice cream is great here, though, as I mentioned above, the servings are big, so it's probably not the healthiest of options. But let's be honest, you're not going to go here if you're looking for a healthy meal. This place is pure indulgence. Prices are a bit more than your typical ice cream, but there are extras (see the pictures) so you do get your money's worth. Staff were really helpful with everything as well.

It’s overpriced ($16.50 for 2 scoops) and the ice cream/gelato (idk which it was supposed to be) was icy and kinda tasteless 😭😭. I got the bueno and cookies and cream. The bueno initially tasted nice because I was eating all the biscuit toppings that it was covered in. Then I got to the actual ice cream which was kinda average. The worst was when I reached the cookies and cream base and it was basically very bland dark chocolate ice cream with Oreo bits. You are paying for the decorations. The saving grace is the waffle cone which is nice and crispy and the staff are friendly. Save your money. It’s also a bit strange how the owner/social media mgr responds to negative reviews…is it meant to be sarcastic? Negative reviews can often be entitled, rude or the customer being a Karen for no real reason but I don’t think genuine feedback warrants it…

This was on our list of must-visit places in NZ, and we are so glad we came! It is without a doubt the most outrageous ice cream shop I have ever been to. The ice cream itself is delicious — we had rich, luscious Creamy Coconut and Buono (caramel, praline, and amaretti) — but what truly sets this place apart are the off the wall creative ideas for how to present the ice cream. We spent big bucks and went whole hog by ordering both the Colossal Squid Cone and the Rescue Heli Cone. Think cone, ice cream, then lots of chocolate dipped coolness on top for fun. We LOVED them. The servers were really great, too. They explained what we would be getting and were great sports about me taking videos of them as they worked. The ice cream melted quickly, and we were both sticky messes by the time we finished them, but it was SO worth it!

["You order to go. There are only two benches for sitting. Prices were on the higher side. Sorbet was yummy but not sure I want to pay a steep price for it again. The ice cream sample on the wall was cool to look at (looks a little like S&M to me 😂)",null,[0,247]]

Hands down the best place to visit for a special occasion dessert! If there is a special occasion every week even better! If you are looking for a good recommendation you can’t go wrong with the Giapo Buono

Absolutely amazing. Pricey but definitely worth it because the portions are huge! The cones are definitely unique and the ice cream delicious. Staff super friendly, they explained everything to us when we got there and even turned on the heater in the little waiting room when it was getting cold and windy. An absolute must try when you're in Auckland!

I got The Buono Ice Cream scoop on an OG Chocolate Chip cookie - pretty standard, not that amazing. Probably wouldn't go back. The staff member who not only took my order, but guided me through the process and explained the different ways to order, was so patient and helpful. She let me sample a few flavors and did not make me feel rushed or pressured. Amazing service. 💯

Visited on a rainy Tuesday looking for a gluten free sweet treat and was not disappointed. This place is amazing. It is a totally gluten free venue with a great variety of ice creams, cones and pastries on offer. The staff are super friendly, knowledgeable and appear to be genuinely happy to be at work. I guess it is an ice-cream store after all… The ice cream was to die for. We had the Double cream NZ Hokey Pokey in a dark choc & nibs cone and the Triple Textures Pistachio in the homemade waffle cone. Both were outstanding!! We also took home some takeaway treats, a GF hot cross bun and a GF carrot cake. Mmmmm! I highly recommended this place! Please bring a store to Sydney Australia!!

Best Icecream in Auckland! Highly recommend the "Buono" flavour! Flavours tend to change as the seasons change, but also there are a few staple flavours. Friendly staff and now has an ordering system to pickup when the ice cream is ready. Nice sheltered heated area to sit down and eat your ice cream, even if outside is a bit chilli.

We shared a 150ml portion for $11 (the pistachio flavour is a little more expensive) and it was the perfect amount for two of us.

The ice-cream temperature and texture was perfect and the pistachio came with whole nuts!

There is some covered seating out in front.",null,[0,163]]

Way overpriced and overrated!! We ordered the colossal squid with the NEM ice cream and the dark chocolate deluxe cone with 1 scoop of Cher’s dark chocolate ice cream and 1 scoop of manuka honey ice cream. The total was NZ$57.50, the most expensive ice cream we’ve ever had. Yes, they looked amazing! However, when we received the colossal squid, the ice cream inside had already melted and started dripping all over the place. It was a big mess! There was no table to sit at to help make the mess more manageable. They only have a few benches outside to share. And for the price, you’d think at least the ice cream tasted delicious. Nope, big disappointment! All the ice cream flavors were mediocre. Oh, and the dark chocolate squid (and its tentacles) were powdery and completely tasteless! Save your money and go somewhere else. Or if you really wanna try this place, just order a small scoop of ice cream and lower your expectation by a lot.

I found the ice cream to be entirely soft and it melted rather quickly when it was handed to me, dripping 💦 like an open water tap. Upon inquiring, the staff mentioned that the ice cream was freshly made due to the hot weather but it was 19°C***. I couldn't help but wonder about the texture and consistency of the ice cream given that it melted so quickly.😅 If you truly desire the "No ice & No cream" ice cream for $24, then go ahead and treat yourself. 🙄🫠💦👎👎👎 funny that, the ice cream even melted before I could take a photo. 🫠🫠😅

Yea we all know sugary stuff ain’t healthy but… we all need a treat sometimes yes? And what lovely treats one can get from Giapo. Firstly, the people - so sincere in finding the right flavour for your enjoyment with patient and rather generous samples of all the amazing options they have. Secondly… the combination of gelato resting on a donut… get out of here… I really enjoyed my banana something something on the donut. My companion loved her Christchurch Hazelnut too. This is my perfect treat for a hectic day and I hope it can be for you too.

Though I love their collaborations and creativity, Giapo is a bit overrated. It's more hype than substance. It's for the instagrammers who probably want to post a cool pic. Definitely not for people who genuinely want to sit and enjoy a cone. The ice cream melts insanely quickly and can become super messy and unpleasant to handle. Also for the popularity it has gained over the years, there should be more seating available or they should opt for a bigger location. If you're just grabbing a cone and wolfing it down as you walk, this is probably the place for you.

Delicious and artistic ice cream. We wish the weather had been better and our stomach not as full because we would have enjoyed having a speciality cone. They look amazing!

We went on a tour of Giapo (whilst on a cruise ship). Amazing little place. Think artisan luxury ice cream and chocolate sculptures. We got to sample a selection of flavours (they were all lovely) and learn how the ice cream designs came about. The concept is unique as is the presentation. If you are on a Princess cruise ship (other cruise ships are available) and get this offered on a tour then it's definitely worth going. Thank you Giapo. X

The ice cream is about double the price that you find elsewhere especially if you don't choose the normal cone. I don't know whether it's because they use higher quality ingredients but it could be that they have higher demand for their ice cream. The amount of ice cream given does not appear to be more. They have three vegan ice cream flavours for selection.

Wow, the Gluten free donuts were out of this world and the icecream was wickedly amazing. A bit expensive but really big serves. Loved it. Not great if you have nut allergies as there’s a real risk of them being present. The staff do make that clear.

Visit Giapo twice this year after I move back to Auckland. Chocolate Fondue is epic and it's so cheap when you use their App for the first time! Dulce de Leche is my favourite flavour so far, and there are different collaboration ice cream to choose from each month! Staffs are lovely and patient:) Will definitely go back to try different kinds of ice cream! Just the price is a bit expensive in general.

I went on a Sunday night, the line was alright and I chose the Selfie Portrait (26$), which is same price for the Squid. If you don't like dark chocolate, don't order those. The squid is 74% dark chocolate and so is the selfie portrait. About the flavour, I chose the cookies and cream and it was really good. It was worth the visit.

Popped in after dinner on Saturday. The queue was short so not much waiting. Things have changed a bit from last time I visited so no tasters though I also didn’t ask if that was a possibility. We got some kid sized tubs as we didn’t really have room for a cone. But the cones looked excellent. My daughter had the dark chocolate ice cream and enjoyed it. I had the banana bread ice cream which was great. We also got a chocolate chip cookie and that was good too.

I like gelato but this one is too sweet even dark chocolate is sickly sweet. I got topping which is some kind of Nutella and hazelnut though I didn’t ask for it and it just added more sweetness on top of it. 150g in a cup is $13NZD which is way more expensive than a very good one in Sydney. Anyway, I came back to the hotel trying to enjoy it but I couldn’t even finish it. Just too rich and too sweet.

We ordered a cone and long John doughnut ice cream. The ice cream flavors were delicious!! What we disliked was the doughnut, it lacked sweetness and flavor, kinda reminded me of a fried bread with some sugar coating, texture was good just lacked a sweet profile. Also we were unaware that it came with two scoops, so we ended up with two of the same banana bread flavor, although it was good we definitely would have chosen a secondary flavor to suit it. Husband ordered a scoop in a chocolate cone, in which we had to eventually had to throw away bc it was covered in thick amounts of chocolate it wasn't easy to bite. Service was friendly and helpful, allowing customers to sample the flavors. Line may get long, a buzzer is given to you and the wait is an additional 10-15 minutes. There's also ordering in advance, which we should have done but we're already in line at opening and wanted to sample the variety.

["It's the biggest one I've seen in NZ (maybe the price matters a bit) and their flavors are incredible!
Spicy chocolate? That taste is really cool, and the kiwiberry(or berry kiwi?) one is so fresh. I even saw a mountain of kiwi fruit in the back.
The bottom of the cone is a bit too sharp for me, but the taste is great.

The staff was really nice and patient. We were almost undecided for 10 minutes, and she still helped answer all our questions and gave us advice. She’s definitely an angel in this city!

While finishing the whole gelato, we all agreed that sharing one broken cone ice cream among friends is enough for us
Recommend: the coffee one, kiwifruit one and hazelnut chocolate one",null,[0,180]]

Superb ice cream experience! Went with a broken cone and the Bueno ice cream with all the toppings. Really good tasting ice cream plus the extra toppings really made it delicious. Nice combination of sweet and almost Smokey.

I wish Giapo would make like half portions! Yes, I am complaining about their generosity! Haha! The Buono really tastes like what's inside Kinder Bueno. You know the light cream. And the toasted hazelnuts on top just tastes like the luxurious Nutella.. Seriously masterpieces. It is a portion that will fill you up instead of dinner! Dulce de leche was also amazing! Loved them both. Massive portions for $11 each which I think is very reasonable as everything is top quality and from scratch!

Really cute place with good vibes, line was pretty long though but definitely was well served with a lovely lady offering us chocolate and then getting the Giapo experience of taste testing! We got to experience every flavor we wanted which was awesome, I liked the coconut choc chip but was not into the topping of chocolate chip cookie so opted for the classic giapo buono (really wanted meringue!). Took quite some time waiting but nice to know that they hand make everything on the spot! Definitely great for customer service, beautiful presentation of the icecream, and the taste for the icecream itself is just good creamy salted caramel but not anything extremely special. What's special is the whole experience and the topping! Toppings enhance the flavor so much, adds crisp and tang, the meringue is deliciously creamy and hazelnut is fresh! Worth the wait and portion is actually bigger than you think and fills you up a bit! In the words of my friend, the giapo guano 'is like one big ferero rocher'

I got a huge ice cream, but thankfully I eating so fast so it won’t melt away! Honey pokey is great, chunky crispy cookie is the lighting in ice cream. Another flavor dark chocolate is boring to me. Cone is crispy but hasn’t any special for it. Anyway it’s delicious!

What a great ,novel and unique experience, it was a real treat. The quality of the ice cream was very good and surprisingly not overly sweet and the serving size geneous. The menu choices can only be describe as novelties, fun for kids and adults alike. Well patronized, and the opportunity to try one not to be missed. The staff impressed as being busy but always happy.

Absolutely delicious ice-cream and well worth a visit! We had the buono (caramel hazelnut praline amaretti) and a chocolate one - both flavours are some of the best ice-cream that we've eaten.

I got the buono with a pretzel cone. The staff are very helpful in picking flavours. They offer advice based on your tastes and offer samples of ice cream. They also serve ice-cream pies, cookies and paper cups.

If you are after a dessert that is different from others, this is the right place. It offers an interesting concept and taste at an affordable price. However, the location is not very convincing and the store itself only has a pick-up and go option, which limits customer service greatly.
