Truly one of the best experience I had ever get in Auckland 🙏 This historical village is telling you about the journey and process of European first settlement in Aotearoa. Starting from a humble thing as simple as a tent settlement, driven by unstable economy or eviction back at home, through the sea they voyage into a great new home while also hope. Then, meeting their new neighbor, Maori. As european individuals without home and basically some of them unwanted on their homeland, the Maori helps them survive and adapt through any measure available on this new challenging place. Some true story of friendship probably born from here, the true companionship between human settlers who came from the northern hemisphere who met their cousin that already settled from long ago in southern hemisphere. Truly, I couldn't tell you more through words, you just need too see and learn it by yourself (: The place isn't so far from the town center, also I love the staffs here! They're lovely, helpful, and greatly cheerful.. thank you guys 🙏 You could also chilling on their cafe just to buy coffee, tea, breakfast, or lunch, they had a great view to just chilling and sitting 👌

A truly remarkable piece of history! Howick Village settlement began in 1847 when retired soldiers from England came to help defend Auckland...... A great deal of history attached to this village, it is a 'must visit' place. We are from England and have been here three times and enjoyed every minute of it. Thoroughly recommended and check out the history too!!

I went on "live sunday" and get to see staff dressing up in characters! I was such a great experience to learn about the Victorian-era. Got to try some bread freshly from oven, engaged in a home-made butter and absolutely love the lesson by Mrs Hamllum in the classroom!

Lovely open air museum showing the cottages of the first (mostly) European arrivals to New Zealand. You can enter most of the huts and houses, and since they're all original, it's very interesting to see. There's also a café and a cute gift shop.

Howick Historical Village is so interesting. It's a time capsule in a beautiful setting. I've been wanting to go for years, and I'm glad I finally did. I enjoyed walking around the old buildings, looking at props from a bygone era, imagining what life may have been like then. They have a lovely little café on site. I have to say that I'm very grateful for being born in this era 😁 There is good parking. Almost everything is level, so it makes for a good walk. One tip: try and go on weekends. Weekdays are often for school trips, which means it's overrun with children, clamouring on everything, going beyond the ropes, pushing and shoving past you inside the buildings, without any regard.

Attended the Live Summer Picnic with 3 grandchildren aged 5, 3, and 8 months. They absolutely loved the school lesson, blacksmith, bee talk, candle making, toys, and butter making. It was so interactive that we ended up being there for 5 hours! There was plenty of shade for our picnic on the lawn. There was a lovely Cafe on site. Toilet facilities were at a few points in the village. There was a Gelato stand, an old fashioned sweet store and a gift shop. It all provided a fabulous day out.

Arrived as they opened at 10am on a showery day in November. The guy at the reception was chatty and informative...he spent a good 10 mins explaining things to us. Went round the village for the next couple of hours, and soaked up the atmosphere and information. People working there were friendly and happy to answer questions. Although we didn't have children with us it would be a perfect place for families to visit and learn a out the NZ history. Highly recommended.

Visited on a cloudy and rainy day, so very few visitors and no costumed actors around. It is a great experience, learning about the "fencibles" and the stories behind each family. Would love to spend more time there. We had lunch at the café after the tour - food was delicious. Recommended= fish and chips 😋

It was my pleasure to join the halloween activity, luckily we booked tickets online, but scan queue needed be patient at first, and it was great and food trucks were busy (eat sth first at home could be better), finally my children had fun in such a beautiful place, good first impression.

Amazing historical experience showing how the settlement of Auckland by the British took place. It's humbling to see the modest cottages (and cramped ships) of these early soldiers who were tasked with the defence of what was then New Zealand's capital. Great care had been taken to dismantle these dwellings and re-assemble them in the Historical Village premises. The staff are nice and friendly, and the Homestead Cafe has meals and refreshments for visitors. The $15 ticket is well worth the price.

It is a very beautiful village from early 1800. It is very well maintained and preserved. It was an awesome experience of visiting this ancient village. It gave us a glimpse of the early settlers in New Zealand. We had a good visit . One can have a good picnic with family and friends in summers in this lovely village.

Visited on the open Live Day. Great activities for kids and grown ups. Learned to do butter and kept the kids entertained with that. Different areas to focus on and visit. Not very crowded and just as you exist there is a playground on the left

A very interesting place to wander around and learn about the early settlers of Auckland. It's great to see some of the original homes preserved for future generations to see too.

Me and my family enjoyed our visit to the historical village today and it was a good educational experience as well. However one of the people working their was very rude towards me and my family, when my husband aprroached her she point blank ignored him and exactly the same when we left we greeted she was so rude and just stared at as. She dident even try to hide it, looking at us from head to toe. I'm sure her co-worker felt embarrassed as well. In comparison with the woman that received us when we came who was just absolutely lovely. I was disgusted with her behaviour. Therefore I would not visit again or recommend it. I'm sorry but that was our full experience which is a shame

Howick Historical Village is an important place to visit who keeps interest in history, heritage, nature, archeology, and conservation of nature. It's not easy to continue heritage for a 170 year old building like the BELL HOUSE. I am simply delighted to visit it for a short time and hope to visit for long hours for detailed enjoyment of this historical place. Kudos to all caretakers. Cheers.

I went approximately 7 years ago and it was amazing. I'm not sure if it's better in the school holidays but I felt like it was a let down this time. I'm sure there were more buildings open to the public previously? And there were people acting in character and engaging the children in activities - card making, diy bubbles and diy butter etc. I believe you could look in the mud house previously

It was ad-hoc Saturday afternoon plan for me & my partner to visit this historic place. Loved the easy walk around with a bit of history. Put things into perspective for us. We appreciated more of what’s available to us today.

Fancy for historical place in Auckland? Try visiting Howick Historical Village. Meet the villagers every third Sunday of the month and experience what life was really like in 1840-1880 New Zealand. The village has volunteers dress in period costume and set about performing the daily chores and activities of early settlers. Experience the happiness in simplicity. The village is open evryday from 10:00 - 16:00. Probably closed on public holidays. Just a heads up there is an entrance fee to visit the place.

Awesome place to roam and get into the feel of what it would have been like to live in the 1800s. Looking forward to catching a live day with people performing tasks of the era. Some areas could use some attention but overall it was a good experience.

Lovely place to spend a morning. A few old schools and buildings have been brought to the site and the volunteers have done a great job restoring them.
