Great place to bring the kids or to come on a date or just to visit in general, the encounters are great fun and awesome to see and you learn a bit too, the staff are super friendly. Plenty of parking as well. You can spend the entire day here with just looking around to going and seeing the farm animals and also they have a great cafe on site too! Def recommend coming here if you’re looking for something to do!

What an amazing adventure! We paid $55 for our family of 3 and had the best time of our lives. Nothing short of a Zoo trip. Beautiful butterflies, a solitary alligator, a bone crunching crocodile, the ever elusive Kiwi, lots of lizards and creepy crawlies and not to forget the Dragons and Dinosaur. It's a whole different world altogether. We were right on cue for the crocodile feeding which was the highlight of the day! Then there was that fantastic train ride. Lots to do for the whole family. We had also heard of it but having experienced it first hand was something else entirely. Highly recommended for a full family adventure. Facilities are nice and clean and the food was good for the price. Absolutely wonderful.

Gorgeous place to visit with kids. We encountered with butterflies, rabbits, pigs, chickens, goats, sheeps, alpacas and many more lovely animals. Dinosaurs around us seems like original ones, my little one got scared first 😀😀 then we took a train ride, its only $3.50 extra per person. And lastly we had a tasty lunch in the cafe. An awesome half day trip with kids

It was quite a nice place to spend the morning. We came by late in the morning and noticed that we had missed some of the animal encounters already. The parking lot is quite big and shares with rocket ropes beside it. It was fairly busy but there was plenty of parking particularly away from the main entrance. This is probably where the annual pass comes in handy. We started in the aquarium area just by the ticket counter. They had a few tanks with a myriad of different fish. The next part was the butterfly enclosure. It was quite fun trying to find the different butterflies as they flew around. We followed the map to the different areas of the zoo. After the animals came the Dinosaur Kingdom. This was quite interesting to walk through with all the dinosaurs moving about and making sounds. The mythical creature display was in the building near this area too. The dinosaur kingdom ended by the train station, which is beside the cafe. There was also another area that went to Buttermilk Farm. The barn had animals that were pettable. There was also an aviary and other farm animals around like goats and alpacas. One of the animal encounter that we went to was the crocodile feeding. That was quite an interesting experience watching the croc feeding in close quarters. I can see why this is the most popular encounter. The outdoor area by the playground was a nice place to have lunch. There was sufficient cover under the tables so that you didn't get burnt. There are also toilets in this area. We grabbed some food from the cafe and enjoyed it outside. We then went on the train. This was quite a nice ride going around the entire place twice. This was a nice place to spend a day with kids of all ages. Take a look at the timetable to see if there is a specific animal encounter that you'd be interested in.

Been coming to Butterfly Creek for years and I was impressed on our last visit with how much it has developed and provided even more things to see. There are more animals and the kids loved the tractors, the dinosaurs are in a fabulous jungle setting and the inside area with the giant toadstool was a hit.

I love Butterfly Creek..Such an awesome place for the family especially the kids. The dinosaur part is amazing, walking through and seeing these huge dinosaur statues that look so real. Our girls loved the farm animals and the train ride is a added bonus. Friendly staff and great location with lots of parking. The cafe also has some delicious meals with reasonable prices.

My son and I really enjoyed our visit to Butterfly Creek. We spent around 3 to 3½ hours going round, there was so much to see. We thoroughly enjoyed the Tarantula encounter with Jess who was very knowledgeable and was great at answering all my son's questions. Also thanks again to Jess and Lawrence for answering lots of questions at the end of the crocodile encounter - you're knowledge and enthusiasm was fantastic. Would definitely recommend Butterfly Creek to others, and would definitely visit again.

Lovely place to go wondering. Butterfly enclosure, all kinds of animal to see. The dinosaur area is one of the best I have seen. Farm area where you can get up close and feed the animals. Very nice food at the lovely Cafe. Fantastic day out.

Well I read the reviews before going here and I don’t usually visit zoos/animal areas because they’re a cruel concept. But I had seen this one had really good habitats for its animals but after visiting I disagree. Especially the aquarium, it is way too small for some of the massive fish they have. Some enclosures were nice to see such as the butterfly enclosure band the nocturnal kiwi area but a bit sad to see the others.

We arrived just in time for our train trip, went around twice. And then managed to catch the croc feeding which was cool to watch. Butterfly house was filled with butterflies, which kept landing on my daughter and husband, saw an alligator as well. Petting farm was cool with a friendly Goat and lamb, and huge bunnies.

Great family fun. Bought tickets upon entry. Some Animals that could be touched and fed, $2 to buy a small bag to feed some of the animals. Cafe food can sit inside or sit outside under a shaded area. Playground outside for kids. Butterfly area was very warm however there is lots of butterflies. Train ride not unlimited have to pay for each time for the train rides, kids enjoyed train rides. Went during the weekend it was not too busy.

Sadly due to COVID there are not many butterflies, I think I counted 5? At the time. Definitely room for improvement, some displays had nothing and they could provide more information about the animals with better displays and more ‘interactions’. We enjoyed feeding the animals the train and the dragon / dinosaur / unicorn displays. Wish there were more staff around to help take photos of my son and I. The iguana was very cool! Beautiful glasshouse with plants. As an indoor plant enthusiast, maybe you could try growing rare pants in there? That would be amazing!!!!

Great wee train ride, and animatronics. Butterfly house was very hot, so if you're allergic to heat, be warned. Lovely butterflies though.

A truly great way to waste a few hours when you’re stuck at the Auckland airport. We spent 4 hours there, which was probably about an hour too long. But they have a free shuttle from the airport, ample opportunities for fun photos and caring staff. It’s a bit expensive for how small it is, but if the funds go toward the animals, that’s fine with me. Definitely geared towards kids but it was still fun for two adults.

Lots to see and do for young children. A great variety of wildlife, Farm animals, butterflies, moving dinosaurs, crocodiles, kiwi birds and lizards. Probably one of the more expensive attractions in Auckland but still a great day out.

Had an awesome time here! Heaps to do and shows to see with the animals if you choose too. The only improvement suggestion I have is to have seperate lines to enter the 'barn' and to buy the food pellets. Because there's a limit of 10 max in the barn at any time to pet the animals in there and you can only get the food pellets in the barn- we had to wait in the line no for 30mins with people waiting to go and pet the animals in there and all we wanted was some bags of food. Other than that - great day!!!

Had organized my son's 1st bday here and I must say, it was everything we expected and more. Communication was so easy, we arrived 5 minutes late and so happy to see that the room was set up as we wanted. The staff were amazing to deal with. The platters we ordered were massive portions so plenty to take home too. Our babies loved it here. Will definitely come back and use this place as a bday venue again! Thank you Butterfly Creek.

Fantastic large zoo with a great range of animals. Obviously not on the same level as Auckland zoo, but great value for money. We saw the giant crocodiles being fed and lots of other interesting things. Staff were all very friendly.

Had an awesome time here with my family. Beautiful atmosphere and a diverse variety of creatures/ mythical beings to look at. Not much staff which makes the experience a lot more private a definite bonus. They do very well with maintenance and catering to the public with there dynamics that are in place. Seen 12 staff on hand for the entire theme park am absolutely impressed! Thank you

Great place for little ones and their curious minds. There's a cute little train that runs but lines can get quite long. Also there's only 1 parents room by the eating area. A fun day out none the less.

Great place for all ages to visit with a good variety of animals to see. Enjoyed the train ride that goes twice round the park. Food is enjoyable but on the expensive side and the only food for coeliacs was a caramel slice. This place doesn't cater for those with dietary requirements.

We really like visiting butterfly Creek 🦋 ❤ especially our kids they really enjoyed exploring the whole places as there so many things to do for kids they get see experience a tour guide by friendly staff on how Alligator are being fed. Kids get to see different kinds of insects, Butterflies also habitat of Kiwi home. We get to captured beautifull pics with Dinosaurs 🦕,Egyptians sts, 🦄, and the fun part kids love going short Train Ride as well as getting opportunity to feed the farm animals like 🐐, 🐔, and other farm Animals but most of Animals may be due to hot sunny day they like to hide and take shed so we are unable to feed them. But kids has and awesome time pamperring their favourite Animal Fluffy Rabbit. I would highly recommend others to visit this nice places your whole family will loved it :) It would be best if you pack your own snacks or sandwich 🥪 😉 and bring own water bottle to keep u going and side by side enjoy the scenic beauty of Butterfly Creek . As a family we all had a fabulous day ❤

Easy to navigate around. Highlight: The Butterfly 🦋 house was awesome. Enjoyed feeding the animals at the buttermilk farm special mention: the kiwi house and the equirium. Overall worth the price for a few hours with the grandson. The Cafe has great ☕️ too.

An adventure at every turn. There is so much on offer here. The only disappointment was the female toilet. They are tiny and hard to move around in. The shop has a lot to offer and I found it to be really reasonable priced

Located pretty close to Auckland airport (around 5 mins drive), this is a mini-zoo with major attractions being crocodiles, butterflies, a dinosaur garden, and a section for some mythical creatures as well. Must watch would be those two giant saltwater crocodiles !!!! Couple more things the young ones would enjoy are a toy train ride, and a mini farm where kids can feed some farm animals as well, if you are there during their feeding time. Ticket price is probably a bit on the higher side I felt, but good place to spend 90-120 mins.

Just recently celebrated my daughter's birthday here. The venue was perfect for our small group and it was a beautiful light and airy space. It was quite a warm day though so the room was quite warm - however that didn't ruin the day as the kids were quick to eat and get out to check out the farm! Sonya and her team were very attentive to all my annoying enquiries and they were prompt with serving our food and beverages. Highly recommend this place for a birthday celebration! Keep up the great work guys and thank you for hosting my tribe!!

This was such a lovely animal park, perfect for young and old. It's not a massively big space but thoughtfully curated. The animals on display were all happy and active, which made the visit all the more enjoyable. We loved the butterfly enclosure so much!!

Amazing. I had the best time! I’d been before and was convinced the alligators and crocodiles were fake (not really-but they didn’t move much!) this time I was blessed to see Sheryl follow me round a little, Goldie moved from the pool to the poolside and Scar was guarding his banana tree from the keepers; I got awesome views of those big teeth! The butterflies were SO COOL I had a few land on me and it was such a beautiful experience! The rest of the animals and the experience was great but the butterflies and alligators/crocs were definitely my highlight! Thank you for the best time! I’ll definitely be visiting again next time I come to Auckland!

It was very expensive. There are not many interactive activities for kids to do. $9.00 for the train ride! I felt sorry for the animals. Small, uninteresting enclosures. Staff not engaged with the public. More interested in their own conversations. The food was $31.00 and entry $71.00 that's for 2 kids and 1 adult. I hope the animals eat well. As the staff don't deserve much. My recommendation is to give the place a miss. And with luck, it'll close and the animals moved to more humane enclosures.

Went to the otter experience, it was sooo good. Lovely guide and up close and personal with the otter family. Got to feed them behind the scenes. Amazing experience.

Great place for young and old. Just unfortunate that we could not get the kids on the train ride as queues were too long on the day. Would happily go again.

Excellent place for kids! Small Petting zoo. Dinosaurs. Train rides. Dinosaurs. Playgrounds cafes. And pretty sure it's the only decent place for dinosaurs I'm Auckland

Service in Cafe was a little slow and at times not very friendly. But the butterflies are amazing at the moment, so many and they love to land on you. The grounds are beautifully kept and so beautiful.

A constantly evolving attraction! Somehow what once was just a butterfly house has grown into a family attraction! Lawrence was amazing at the eel and crocodile talk! This may be an attraction that focuses on children and family, but it will touch your inner child aswell! Great spot right next to the airport! Perfect for a delayed flight

  • 5/5 Jess F. 1 year ago on Google
Really good place for the kids. We went as a primary year level group and they did really well with organising the feeding times for us parent helpers. It’s a good size park with loads of things to see and do. There is a train that circles the swamp which is a few dollars per person. Huge shaded area to eat at and a cafe that has an ok selection of food. Their coffee was mediocre however. I’m pretty sure you can’t bring your own food though. May pay to check that one by ringing them.

Butterfly Creek is an absolutely stunning and wonderful experience. The exquisite collection of butterflies is just amazing, and the way they flit about is so calming and peaceful. The park has a unique and interactive environment, which makes it perfect for both kids and adults. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, and they always go above and beyond to make sure visitors are having an amazing time. Overall, Butterfly Creek is a top-notch destination for anyone looking for a fun and educational experience – highly recommended!
