This is a beautiful spot in Auckland to admire the beautiful memorial and take some photos. The garden looks incredible at any hour of the day and walking around it feels phenomenal. The flowers are very pretty and the design is elegant and perfect :]

A beautiful park in a location with a great view. I happened to pass by it while driving along the coast. A very well-maintained park, beautiful flowers, and ocean views. I was able to feel refreshed.

This was once the site of two massive pa systems (fortified villages), Kohimaramara and Tokapurewha. These pa were the first to be overrun during the conquest of Tamaki by the Ngãti Whãtua sub-tribes of Kaipara at around 1745. In 1859, the government acquired 9 acres at Takaparawhau for military purposes under the Public Works Act. In 1886, a further 13 acres were taken to build Fort Bastion during the 'Russian Scare of the 1880s. Gun emplacements here once guarded the entrance to the Waitemata Harbour, as did other fortifications on Takuranga / Mt Victoria and Maungauika / North Head at Devonport on the North Shore. Bastion Point is named after Bastion Rock / Tokapurewha (the rock of the black mussel), a distinctive fort-like outcrop which stood offshore here until the 1920s, when it was demolished during the formation of Tämaki Drive. This is now the site of the memorial to Michael Joseph Savage (1872 - 1940), this country's first Labour prime minister, remembered by a tall obelisk, sunken pool and garden. Very beautiful place. Good for tourists. Bring your own water and food. Public toilets there. Good for family picnics.

The Michael Joseph Savage Memorial is must visit if you are in Auckland city. The memorial has beautiful gardens and water features with stunning views of the harbour. A great place to learn about some Aotearoa - New Zealand’s history while taking in the spectacular views.

Some of Auckland's best views, from the port around to Brown's Island. Beautifully laid out gardens, unfortunately the time of year means the gardens aren't full of plantings, but the roses still look great. Not a big walk from the carpark, definitely worth spending an hour or two enjoying serenity in the middle of the city

Very scenic 360 view of the bay. It's not very crowded at all because everyone is at the beach. Bring water and a hat. This is one of the stops on the hop on hop off bus route.

It is, obviously, a bit of a climb when you walk to get there, but definitely worth it. Relatively quiet to sit for a bit and enjoy

Very scenic park with an excellent view of the harbour, Auckland CBD, the sea beyond, and some of the outlying islands of Auckland. Well maintained gardens, rolling hills or luscious grass, and ample carparks.

The Michael J. Savage Memorial on Bastion Point is a nice place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the busy waterfront. The memorial commemorates New Zealand's first Labour Prime Minister. There's an obelisk and well maintained gardens overlooking the Waitemata Harbour with nice views to Rangitoto Island. There's plenty of green space and shady spots for a picnic or to just chill out and parking is free. There's also clean and well maintained toilets available.

The memorial commemorates New Zealand's first Labor Prime Minister (from 1935-1940). It was built on the site of a former weapons storage facility from the 1880s. The memorial was officially opened in March 1943. Quiet place, not so crowded. Nice borders and lawns. Good view over the harbor canal to the center of Auckland.

Been visiting ever since I was a child. 30 years later this place still amazes me. Always well looked after. Beautiful flower garden. Great views of the harbour. Nice walking area. Great picnic area on the grass. Plenty of grass to let the kids run around and tire themselves out. Ample parking. Public toilets. Cafe on site. Just be careful of gate closing times.
