St Matthew in the City is a stunning building built in Gothic style with a unique wooden ceiling which contrasts beautifully with the white stone body of the building. The theological perspective here is progressive and inclusive with an evening Rainbow service every Sunday at 7.30

Helen, I just listened to David Farrierā€™s podcast recording, yes I too am a victim of religious abuse. It was sad to hear your arrogance towards other denominations, it was sickening to hear you say you and your church are the antithesis of Arise and other mega churches and for you to proudly talk finances. Donā€™t you get it? Pride and arrogance are the root of all that is sick in church, you are no different. I was glad to hear you humbled and reminded of the horrendous history, not just past but also recent, of all forms of abuse your church inflicted on generations of innocent men, woman and children. How can you smugly sit in a church built on the backs of generations of manipulative giving and think your hands are clean? And no I am not defending mega churches or Arise, not at all. Your arrogance is no different to John Cameronā€™s or Peter Mortlocks. Itā€™s sad

Contacted them last year 2nd Dec to book a pre-wedding photo session on Jan, been told they were doing 3 weeks lighting-upgrade up to Christmas, might have some electrician working onsite. In order to make sure everything works fine, we've been there twice and did some trail shoot in Dec, we just saw few people working onsite but the condition was acceptable. But when we actually been there on 19th Jan for the photos, there were scaffold ladders tools everywhere, worker cutting the floor using the electronic tools just beside us with extremely loud noise, it was just a construction site which shouldn't open to public. We were not able to use wide angle lens to shoot in most of the locations and there was wet paint in the church without notice, the paint was on our arms and clothes. None of them told us the delay of the project, none of them told us the condition of the church was much worth than the trail shoot. They just don't care after you paid, shame on them...

The restored St Thomasā€™ Chapel now occupies pride of place in the south transept of the church. The nameĀ St ThomasĀ derives from the St Thomasā€™ Church, a humble wooden building set amongst the workersā€™ cottages in Union Street, Freemans Bay, duringĀ the first half of last century. St Thomasā€™ parish was aĀ ā€œmission parishā€ connected to St Matthewā€™s city church,Ā but serving the then outskirts of the growing city.

I love the energy, the feeling of glory, of hope I get within this beautiful building. Only 4 stars because not fully wheelchair accessible.....although the attitudes of the people are open and flexible and able to adapt so is fit for purpose šŸ’–

It's a very old and beautiful historic Anglican church built in 1905. It is situated near Sky city in Hobson street. Church members greeted us as we walked into the building. We have attended the great concerts of St Matthews Chamber Orchestra playing Mozart which was awesome to sit and enjoy. Great stained glass windows. The most stunning feature of the church is the ceiling design with wooden roof giving it an antique look. Worth a visit if you are in the area. There is adjacent paid parking during business hours.

Beautiful church to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Take a moment to enjoy the colorful cathedral glasses

Beautiful venue. Awesome staff with a big heart. Dmitry accommodated our request for a photoshoot we did today and made sure everything went smoothly for us, even asking if we wanted to lock down the church while we were taking our photos and video which we graciously declined so people could still enjoy the venue. Top notch venue and staff šŸ‘šŸ¾šŸ‘šŸ¾šŸ‘šŸ¾

St Mattew church is not a friendly place and the church leader Rev Cate Thorn is not a nice person. About one month ago my mental illness is at the bad situation, I live very close by and I have met some very nice Christian people before, so I rung up St Mattew asking can I have a support worker from their church and I am happy to pay some money. The person answering the phone is very friendly, she took my number and said they will contact me soon. I also left message to the church leader Rev Cate Thorn on their website. And I have received her reply saying she will reply me soon. But there is more than one month, I heard nothing from them. My mental situation is at a much better situation now, but I am not happy about the way they do things, simply ignoring people in unfortunate situation. I know some Christian people are very nice, but some Christian people are quite disgusting, I certainly dont think St Mattew people and Rev Cate Thorn are nice people according to their behaviour. I used to attend lots their concerts in the past, but surely I wont go to any of their concert in the future. I feel sad so many nice concert being hold in such a toilet.

Very good concert of AYC and Hannover choir on 22 July. Unfortunate that the back pew has no cushion and becomes extremely hard! The car parking charges are exorbitant!

I donā€™t think I have ever walked into a church for the first time and felt as welcome as my family and I felt this morning. Very much more traditional than our usual church, but definitely felt at home and welcome. Thank you
