My partner went in to the emergency department and they thought he was drunk. He couldn’t breath and almost collapsed to the floor. There was a white nurse who was a “senior” from my suprise couldn’t find a vain to take bloods so poked my partner 5 times. She got frustrated right infront of us thst she couldn’t do it and mind you my partner was in so much distress that he looked at me scared that something was wrong. She just tossed everything aside and handed it over to Gary the nurse who was honestly what you need in the ED. Gary was doing everything right and saying everything right where my partner calmed down. The same nurse who couldn’t help my partner comes back to our room to find Gary and ask him to help her Koz she couldn’t help the patient next to us for some reason. Gary left to help her and returned back to us. I was not going to go home unless I spoke to the charge nurse. I understand during covid everyone in the medical field have been over worked and We appreciate you so much. But I will advise that when a patient who comes in distressed please be mindful and treat them with the same respect you will show a white person. When my partner first foot there no one offered to help him. A nurse came to him ask what was wrong and walked away. When I spoke to the charge nurse who is white btw about how we felt discriminated she was oblivious to the fact there had been any sort of discriminatory actions have ever been taking place in that hospital. I mean read the reviews 😩. You guys need to stop discriminating people of colour and treat everyone the same. Also your security are clueless. I asked a gaurd where the emergency parking was he said he didn’t know. Please train your staff so the patients don’t suffer.

Their response to emergency is to keep the patient waiting. Waiting at the reception nurse, waiting for the department nurse, waiting for diagnostic services, waiting for doctor ( if you are fortunate to get one), waiting for the discharge 🥲 so the key design variable is ‘waiting’ instead of speedy response. The whole service model is so much poorly designed that instead of getting care and treatment, the patient gets more pain and frustration. I think Health New Zealand should seriously think again and redesign the service model after all it is not a rocket science to design an effective and efficient service delivery.

An incompetent nightmare: The hospital nurse from hell I recently had the unfortunate experience of encountering what can only be described as the worst hospital nurse imaginable. Olivia Hammond's demeanor was nothing short of appalling. She displayed a complete lack of empathy and compassion, treating patients as if they were mere inconveniences rather than individuals in need of care. I could sense her disinterest and dismissive attitude, which immediately made me question her suitability for such a critical profession. Moreover, Olivia's medical knowledge left much to be desired. It seemed as if she hadn't updated her skills or education in decades, as she struggled to answer basic questions about medications, treatment plans, and potential side effects. I feared for the safety of patients under her care, as it became evident that Olivia lacked the expertise to handle even the simplest medical issues. Communication was another significant issue with Olivia. She was often unclear in her instructions and explanations, leaving patients confused and anxious about their conditions and treatment. When patients sought clarification, she responded with irritation and condescension, further adding to the distress of already vulnerable individuals. Perhaps the most shocking aspect of Olivia's behavior was her willingness to gossip about patients with other staff members. Confidentiality is a fundamental principle of healthcare, and her blatant breach of this trust was both unprofessional and unethical. In conclusion, my experience with this hospital nurse was nothing short of a nightmare. Her lack of empathy, medical knowledge, communication skills, time management, hygiene standards, and professionalism all combined to create a hazardous and unpleasant environment for patients. It is disheartening to think that someone so ill-suited for nursing could be entrusted with the care of vulnerable individuals. I strongly urge the hospital administration to address this issue promptly and ensure that patients receive the standard of care they deserve from qualified and compassionate professionals.

Dr Daniel Joh, the worse doctor at Auckland city hospital and not sure how he deserved to be a doctor. Patient are in pain and goes to hospital to see how doctors can help but Daniel attitude was unbelievable and makes you feel horrible as a patient. He questioned why I came to hospital when I was clearly suffering and had no other options. If you don’t like your job you should take something more relaxing or a place where you can chill mate.

Worst Emergency service unit, 8 hours of wait to a dizzy patient on a chair and was advised go to back home without attending. Arrogant front desk girl. No concern and value for time, not even courtesy feedback of when a doctor would visit, until we forced to get a tentative time to which they did not have an answer even after waiting patiently 8hrs. Very disappointing and arrogant staff at front emergency stated since you are dizzy try sit awake until unknown time and GP attends. Pathetic.

This is the most dysfunctional hospital I'm NZ. they do a shift change and forget/deny everything the last nurse or doctor says. you're regularly forgotten and the doctors are incredibly withholding with medication. you may as well stay at home and deal with it.

I was admitted recently to the ED, after which I had to stay in Neurology for a few days while awaiting an MRI and be kept under evaluation. It felt like a long and slow stay, but I wouldn’t expect any different from public healthcare. What was important to me was how brilliantly the staff and doctors treated me for the week that I was there. They were incredibly kind, genuine & patient. I couldn’t have hoped for a better team. Thank you so much!

While it's never a good day to visit a hospital, the staff here makes your visit a little easier. Due to the long weekend we had to wait a bit before we were seen which is understandable. You will need to pay for parking too, they've got lifts for upper floors in the parking lot. There are food and coffee options on the ground floor plus more shops outside if you don't mind walking a bit.

Why remind us to come on time to our appointments if you gonna be over an HOUR late. Left work early and hoped to go back but not looking promising. 10:15am and not getting seen till way later like… just remember if you booked a patient for an appointment you need to promise the patient that time slot. Also your making it EXPENSIVE FOR PARKING!!! The longer the time the more money you have to pay for the car park…. love all the nurses and drs but you need to change the way your time slots work… it’s unfair for the patients. The government need to help our hospitals!!!

I would honestly give this so called 'hospital' ZERO stars if it was possible. Staff are so rude, like I get that you are understaffed and underfunded but this is ridiculous. Whatever happened to treating your patients with diginity and respect. I have severe abdomen pain, struggling to breath and everyhing and they couldnt care less! No nurses checking up on you, you could be rolling on the floor dying and they wouldnt bat an eye. This was a really eye opener into how pathetic our healthcare system is. 7 plus hour wait, and still no word on how much longer I have to wait. Theres a time frame on how long youll wait on the TV, I got told to ignore it. If I dont know how long I will have to wait, then why leave a needle in my arm for HOURS. Why even have an emergency ward since people arent even getting seen or told when they will get seen.

Over the last 12 months, a number of my family have had the misfortune of needing a hospital, including my daughter and very young, months old, grandson. On Saturday, another extended family member was admitted into the A&E after an accident. Over the last 6 months this particular family member has been admitted into A&E many times due poor health and the care they have received is amazing. On all of these visits, the doctors and nursing staff were attentive, reassuring and professional. On Saturday Dr Bernard Foley was on duty and was so lovely and kind. He made my family member and myself feel reassured and confident about the decisions that were made. He was very clear on the condition of them and the treatment they needed. He spoke in layman's terms and with some humour. Sometimes there is a wait but we realise how busy you all are. Thank you to all the staff at Auckland Hospital, in particular the doctors and nursing staff in the A&E. You do an amazing job under pressure and in some difficult situations. What would we do without you? We really appreciate the job you do.

At 1st this Hospital is like a maze, but once we figured it out it was fine, during the week days they have people situated at the entrances of the building available to help. We were very satisfied with the care and treatment that was given, shout out to ward 83 neurosurgery unit, 99% of the staff were amazing, the 1% need training on patient care and to learn empathy

ED Staff excellent, especially Dr. However, Obviously healthcare is underfunded in NZ. 8 hour wait. Waiting room used for patients between consulting and tests. State and size of the waiting area is very sad. I don't feel confident that the system is robust or reliable.

Recently gave birth to my first baby here and had a smooth experience. The birthing unit was great with all the facilities you need. Midwife was very knowledgeable and a great coach through the birth process. Afterwards the nurses who took care of me and baby were very attentive too and provided useful advice on breastfeeding, although some of their opinions conflicted with each other. Also waiting for final things to get done for the baby can take quite a bit of time but that was kind of expected considering they weren’t urgent. Only other thing is the food they provide is not yum at all so suggest bringing your own

I understand that hospital staff are underpaid and overworked. But I do not understand how you can continue to work in an empathetic-role when you come across as not caring and too busy to give you the time of day. This is how it felt when I turned up to ED with kidney stones. I arrived in severe pain, crying, vomiting and barely able to stand. The receptionist very rudely told me to join the queue and wait my turn. Thank you to the amazing person who was also waiting and when was called ahead of me told them that I needed to be seen first, by this point I was lying on the floor screaming in pain. I was rushed thru to a hallway. Where I sat again waiting and being asked questions in front of everyone else in beds in the hallway. A male doctor visited at some time in the night only to crack a few jokes and leave as quick as he arrived. I was eventually admitted to a ward. A filthy room. Rubbish strewn on the floor, dirty table tops with food smeared across them. I accidentally spilt water on my blankets. When I asked to have them replaced no blankets were available. Just a sheet. Dust everywhere. The toilet had an overflowing bin and nowhere to put sanitary waste. A dirty used cardboard bedpan was shoved under the sink. I’m truly thankful for free medical care, I’m thankful that I can easily access the hospital, I am thankful to the 2 workers (1 radiologist and 1 healthcare assistant) out of so many who treated me as a human being. But it is clear that the hospital needs an overhaul and some workers need to work in a role that brings them passion and fulfilment so they can once again be the empathetic person I’m sure they were when they first started working in healthcare.

Visited this hospital level 5 this morning for a medical test, only to see a fat female security (likely to be Pasigika) rudely explaining about hospital entrance to another person. The visitor likely walked to the wrong entrance only to be belittled by unprofessional worker. Well I am leaving since I do not appreciate aggressive staff members.

I spent a few days in Auckland Hospital. The nurses and orderlys were so so amazing and I felt very well cared for. The young doctors were very upfront and need to be careful how they talk about patients, when they are just behind the curtain. Always had a great experience at Auckland Hospital overall.

Amazing staff at the labour and birthing suite. Helpful, compassionate, educational just all the great things that make the pain of giving birth so much more easier. Anna Ramsey was amazing as well as all the midwives there that helped me get through. This is my 3rd baby and this was for sure the Best birthing experience to date.

Hello everyone Today 3 of October I had covid and went to Auckland Hospital because I had a lung problem and I am diabetic and have high blood pressure. But after 3 hours, they took me to a room with a closed door that had no window, no air, no toilet, and no bed. I have a phobia of closed places. I told the nurses that I have a phobia about certain places. They said in a bad tone, we only have this room. You don't want to go and sit in the waiting room. I told them that there are many people in the waiting room. They said it doesn't matter if you don't want this room, go and wait there. It means forcing me that I was sick and in a bad mood. It's been 4 hours since then and I'm still sitting in the waiting room and I keep telling them that I have fever, headache and lung pain. They don't answer and just say sit down. It means that they are being stubborn with the hospital patient. Every time we went to the hospital, we waited for many hours and in the end they give you a paracetamol and tell you to go.

Stephanie Aston died on 1 September after Auckland Hospital accused her of faking symptoms of a debilitating condition. Resulting in an uncalled for physiatric hold even though she had no previous history of mental illness. Stephanie died at the age of 33 from Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. Beware of this hospital. For more information, look at the numerous news articles online on Stephanie's story.

I recently had the pleasure (if you can call it that) of undergoing rhinoplasty at Auckland Hospital, and I must say, the experience was exceptional. From start to finish, the team at the hospital was professional, attentive, and highly skilled. The pre-op consultations were thorough and informative, and my surgeon was fantastic. They took the time to explain the procedure and answer all of my questions, which put me at ease and gave me confidence in the process. Their level of care and attention continued throughout my stay at the hospital, which made a significant difference in my overall experience. The entire team at Auckland Hospital was fantastic, from the nurses to the support staff. They were always available to address any concerns or questions I had, and they made sure that I was comfortable and well-informed every step of the way. I'm delighted to report that the surgery was a success, and I'm thrilled with the results. The recovery process has been manageable, thanks in large part to the care and advice I received from the hospital staff. Overall, I highly recommend Auckland Hospital to anyone considering a rhinoplasty or any other surgical procedure. The level of care and expertise provided is truly exceptional, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Thank you, Auckland Hospital, for everything!

Good caring staff but very understaffed. I was here last night as a patient, I waited about 5 hrs to be seen and bloods taken by a nurse, then waited another 2 or 3 hrs and still hadn't been seen by a Doctor and ended up going home because I couldn't bear the weight on my feet and legs any longer. Now I am back here been here a couple of hours and seen by nurse already but now face the dilemma of waiting to see a Doctor again. There are a lot of people here waiting so I'll wait, be patient and hopefully I might get seen soon.

Although we are in zone for Middlemore Hospital, we have travelled to the birthing unit here twice. The birthing rooms are clean and tidy. The staff are very helpful. You have your own dedicated nurse while you are in labour. The nurse does an amazing job taking care of the birthing mother throughout the entire process. There are family rooms, and tea facilities for spouses and extended family. We also went to the Tamaki ward for after birth Care for two nights. They have sleeping arrangements available in the room for your spouse. Staff in this ward were fantastic and helpful. Again there is a family room and communal kitchen. Overall the hospital is pretty up-to-date and tidy. My only concern is parking. The car park tends to get full quite early and the parking fees are astronomical. If you are a genuine patient, you should be offered some sort of parking subsidy.

Had to stay overnight with what turned out to be Dengue Fever. All the staff were fantastic and I couldn't have been in better hands. Nice follow up call from one of my doctors as well to check on my recovery. Great facilities and easy parking as well. Shorter wait times than I'm used to in the UK.

My dad was transferred here from Middlemore and boy did we notice the difference in care. Thank you to the amazing staff for looking after my dad and especially thank you to the lovely asian girl working in the pharmacy today. Her customer service was exceptional, she took the time to answer every question I had and genuinely cared. She provided so much Information, I felt armed with more knowledge when I left with dad. So thank you! Only downside is the parking - way too small and the corners are so tight for big cars. Maybe invest in better parking.

This was my partners second stay in the hospital this month. Last time we waited 6 hours to see a doctor and then another 3 hours to get xray done. We dont complain as understand they were at their full capacity. Today we came back to the hospital again and waiting time was just less than an hour. But i was so amazed with the doctors in ER. First doctor was Mac Chamberlin. We got xray done almost straight after his appointment and were pleased with how he dealt with our concern. Then they had rotation and we had Sinan Kamona as a doctor. AMAZING!!!!! Very attentive and caring, asking a lot of questions, listening to our concerns. I dont usually leave a lot of reviews in google but here i was so impressed with the hospital staff and those two doctors so wanted to share a positive experience. Thank you Mac and Sinan so much!!!

Although no one around at the help desks in the cardiology wing, i wasn't bothered by any silly questions as to why i was walking around looking for my father. His nurses i spoke to were great and his doctor was sympathetic and spoke with him and not to him.

This hospital emergency department is pathetic. Nurse in the reception is careless. They don’t care about patient. I went there because of emergency medical condition and no one attended me there finally I left and went to another clinic. I don’t understand why I am paying tax. If you need to wait in emergency. Then it should not call emergency department. Pathetic service . They should close this department and let people die when there is urgency.

To the team in the cardiology day stay department, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! Words can’t express how greatful I am, I headed in here to do an angiogram procedure, unbeknown to me, I needed 2 main arteries unblocked so ended up having a angioplasty, I am one who never likes going to doctors or hospitals, but Dr lance, and Mike, thank you guys for giving me a 2nd chance at life ❤️ and the Nurses who looked after me. Nervous going in the operating room, they made me feel calm, put music on, all laughing, and that put me at ease straight away. As a heavy smoker for the last 18 years, Dr Lance said it was best I give up if I didn’t wanna see him again and better my health. well that was enough for me to quit right then and there. 3 weeks today no smoking and haven’t even had the urge for one. Again, thank you team. Best Cardio Team ever 🙏

I was told by my GP to go to Emergency department to get a CT scan because 2 days ago I had a brain injury and after my injury I got 5 injections and stitches and I was having a bad concussion and loss of vision. When I was in the emergency department, everyone who appeared after me (nearly 20-25 people with minor injuries) managed to see the doctor and came back and after 6 hours I was the only one sitting there and they said i still need to wait because brain injury is not emergency and I was wondering first of all when I came at 8:30 I should be given priority and everyone who came in after me were they all emergency patients with just a finger cut or some people with no physical injuries? After 6 hours I decided to get up and leave. Really poor service.

Staff was so helpful and gave toys to my son and coloring book and even popsicle while we waited to see how the treatment effects. After few minutes doc visited and checked upon his condition as well. Gave pain relief in case we needed 😌 at home later on. I was scared to visit emergency department due to previous reviews on Google map. But thankfully we did and pain was gone in minutes. Alhamdolillah

I was admitted for 7 nights. Yes wait times can be up to 6 hours on a busy night, but once you get admitted the nurses and doctors are absolutely amazing, so caring and attentive, they listened to how exactly you were feeling, they don’t try and rush you out of the hospital if you aren’t ready. One doctor even checked on me before he went home at the end of the day, dressed in his sneakers and puffer jacket, that was really nice. The food was absolutely terrible and the kitchen staff were very unhelpful, I had nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea and could only stomach cereal, jelly and fruit. But the kitchen had a set menu each day, and everything they were offering on that day I couldn’t eat and they couldn’t throw in x1 jelly or x1 banana or cereal, they weren’t flexible at all, so my husband had to bring me food twice a day. I was sick as and the kitchen staff brought me mild tandoori chicken to eat, the smell of it just about made me puke, than the second night they brought me fisherman’s stew, lucky they had boiled beans and carrot with it I could eat. The cleaning staff were also not good, my bins were all overflowing and spilling on the floor and I was about to run out of toilet paper, I told them 4 times in one day, than the next day I totally ran out of toilet paper, I told them, they brought me a huge roll that didn’t even fit in the dispenser, it was a different type, so I had to leave it sitting on the dispenser and unravel it to use it, very hard when I have a drip attached to my wrist and can’t bend my left hand. They emptied my bins than they filled up again after 2 days, so my husband put gloves on & got a rubbish bag and changed the bins himself, he left the full bin sitting outside my room. The orderlies were very good, friendly, polite, caring, they stopped when I started to feel sick and vomit and asked if I wanted them to continue moving etc. The rooms I were in were very clean, I didn’t see any type of dirtiness or anything.

They give you punishment if you go to their emergency... uncomfortable seats and long long and long wait, they want patients sit and awake whole night. They should upgrade their early 19s facility, also increase staff(shortage of staff is an very old excuse now)... NZ is a first world developed country 🙄

Came in for emergency kidney surgery through urology who were amazing, clean and very helpful, had my surgery and then was moved to a ward on Level 8 and as soon as I had surgery on the Friday of a long weekend I was told I will be staying the night for observations and my partner couldnt stay due to it being a ladies only ward. He went home and got stuck in mega traffic then I was told my a nurse i can go home to and when i said i literally have no ride now cause i planned my stuff around them telling me they needed me for observation was told to catch a taxi!!! This would have been $200 easy, they turned around and offered to pay and I said i was not going anywhere as had only just come out of surgery and was in pain. 2hrs later they did ops and realised my oxygen levels were also down and said its a good thing i didnt go home. Our ward room also had a empty water jug on a dirty food table with a saline syringe in it and dirty tissues. I get all nurses, doctors, surgeons etc are under the pump but I have mortified to be asked to book a taxi to go home straight after surgery like wtaf cummon

In a queue for a surgery since ages, occasionally they call me for check-up. Their service is great.

If there was an option to give 0 stars I would gladly choose that option. The staff is VERY lazy and rude. A lady was foaming from her mouth and the nurse/doctor were doing absolutely nothing. Came here at 1am and went back at 6am without meeting the doctor. Overall the staff is very slow, rude and super lazy. Do not recommend this hospital at all. I will NEVER go here. A waste of my energy and I didn't feel any better. Worst hospital E.V.E.R.

I can’t thank the ENT team enough! I presented with a quinsy, a really painful abscess on my tonsil and they saw me and sorted it really quickly, even though it was clearly a very busy weekend. It was drained within half an hour of me arriving and then I was admitted overnight for antibiotics. I was really well looked after on the ward, everyone was lovely and everything well explained. Thank you so much, Matt
