😠 This use to be a lovely, clean beach around 15 years ago, now its heavily eroded, dirty and the selfish have squeezed in another boat house in this already cramped space. I would rate it 2/10 nowadays. Better beaches elsewhere in Auckland People often mention beach,

Lovely little central beach if you’re looking for a quick dip to cool down after a hot day. Check the tides before you go, so you don’t have to walk so much. Also worth checking the safeswim Council page before you swim somewhere. Cheers

Shame about the helicopter pads going in to the Waitemata here. Sounds like the rationale for these monstrous buildings is, according to the Herald, to get to golf games and take clients on joy rides! Very understandable and there should be some information explaining this at the beach.

It's quite a cute little beach, with a cool view of the bridge and Watchman Island, however it's not the greatest for swimming (has to be quite full tide to be worth your time, and sand turns to mud a few meters out). Not a bad beach, but you can do much better in Auckland.

With gorgeous views of Auckland harbour and the Bridge from the beach, Sentinel Reserve in Herne Bay is the perfect place for a quick dip to beat the heat during summer. Prime swimming time is an hour either side of full tide, and the hidden nature of this beach means it's never too crowded. Accessible via a walkway from Sentinel Rd, descending into this spectacular little spot is almost magical, and makes for an excellent picnic spot to watch the sun go down and relax in the surroundings. Facilities include a shower, toilets and a seating area with permanent sun loungers. The beach is also open to walk your dog along during certain hours.

Today was great just past hight tide. But when it is low tide with the nasty off flow from Coxs Bay then it's quite life and health threatening!

👍 A (relatively) hidden slice of peaceful beach just north of Ponsonby. The beach itself was very muddy and laden with seaweed but that gave it a certain charm. My wife braved the sludge to dip her toes in the water! The beach is walkable from north Ponsonby although it's not the most elegant route -...
