Extremely disappointed. My husband and I had limited time in Auckland but we heard great things about Ahi and we were very excited to try it. The food is extremely overpriced for its quality. When you arrive, the atmosphere/ambiance is quite nice but once you sit down you start noticing that things aren't as good. The food looks very beautiful and nicely plated but of the 7 main dishes we ordered, 5 dishes were cold and the quail was undercooked. Portions are also very small. I would suggest smaller groups if you would like to visit as the music is so loud you have to yell to be able to listen to what other people on your table are saying.

5 stars straight up without doubt. We tried the “trust us” menu when we visited. It was 7 courses plus 1 palate cleanser. I enjoyed every single dish on the menu. Some of the dressing/sauces the chefs put in definitely surprised me and I would not have thought those would go so well together. I strongly recommend trying this menu if it was your first visit as it allows to try a bit of everything and reasonable portions too. The waitress who looked after us was Isabella (apologies if I spelt hour name wrong) who was the most lovely and attentive waitress and elevated our dining experience to a whole new level. She was very patient and explained every dish so well.

Only giving four stars as one of the girls meals was brought out a bit cold. However the waiter and the kitchen staff were very apologetic and brought out a hot replacement dish very fast. The chicken/cauliflower dish was ordered with our steak meals so may have been misjudged and waited too long before sending out with the steak for the rest of us (4). Otherwise was absolutely stunning delicious food !! Also, unique with kiwi ingredients highlighted. Desserts delicious too. Would definitely go back!

Honestly, I almost cancelled because I wasn't sure if I would like things after looking at the menu. I am so glad I didn't. We booked seats at the kitchen so we could see all the action. It was amazing to see the hard work. Every plate was exceptional. I almost tipped my main on the floor and they were right there helping to tidy and offering to top up the bean salad. I highly recommend Misha's Pinot Noir as well. This was one of our best evenings out and we hope to come again soon.

First time diners. Really impressed. Great service. Mouth watering dishes which were visually beautiful and made of great fresh produce. Fantastic cocktails. I'm gluten intolerant and they accommodated this no problems at all. Tried wallaby for the first time and was impressed. Loved the oysters, crab dog and the red deer. The desert wow.... Highly recommended.

This dinner was sheer joy - from the food, to the story telling, to the ambience. If you're able, trust them with the NZ Food Story experience. Every dish was so complex and delicious. My favorite part of each dish was how it was plated - but how that helped you to experience the dish a multitude of ways. Depending on what ingredients you put in your fork, you could have wildly different bites. I enjoyed EVERY bite. Shout out to the wonderful staff: Eman, Leo, Ella, and of course Chef Ben - who was kind enough to come and speak with us. Thank you for making our evening an unforgettable experience.

The restaurant is located at the heart of Auckland city, with a beautiful view facing towards the harbour. Many windows so there’s ample natural light. Service were good, they’d explain to you where the ingredients and food is from. The food was good, it wasn’t particularly memorable for us but there were some snacks that we really enjoyed. Overall it’s a good dining experience. A bit noisy when it gets crowded and the food is a bit slow, especially in between dishes. Can take up to 20 minutes, which sort of interrupts the dining experience.

Great experience with amazing atmosphere. Staff will make you feel very welcome. I found the wallaby tartare much better than the scampi dog that everyone keeps raving about :). Mains were very nice. Loved the deer, fish and lamb. Great selection of wine. If you looking for a special spot for anniversary or so, this is the one.

Enjoyed my time at Ahi. Definitely a place to go for a treat if you are after a fancy fine dining experience. All the food was good, staff were friendly. No standout dishes, but everything was yum. Loves the fire theatrics on the banana dessert.

One of the best meals I've ever had. Beautiful and classy ambience. Sitting near the kitchen, you can see the well-oiled machine working and how much attention they pay in their craft. Every dish is superb. They have the best broccoli I've ever had and wouldn't mind if the whole meal is just broccoli. All rounded up with great service. Highly recommended and will definitely come again.

Overall Ahi did not meet expectations of was promised to be a delightful experience. Upon arrival the host though friendly had difficulty explaining the menu to us and we didn’t quite understand the set menu, which would be their downfall. A clear set menu sets the expectation of what the customer is going to get, without it the customer may feel disappointed they did not get the opportunity to order what they want. The set menu was told to us to be the best of, however we felt disappointed we weren’t able to order more options as by the end of the meal were still hungry. The food overall was good and well presented, with the best dishes at the start (wallaby and oyster), but at the end of the meal we both felt jaded by the lack of flare other from other dishes we were not offered. During the meal we were often confused in regards to what would be coming next, without the set menu to direct us. Overall, I would not recommend to get the set menu unless you are genuinely interested in being completely surprised, it’s not worth it. Ahi is a beautiful restaurant with a great ambiance and a wonderful concept farm to table, but misses the mark. It also misses the mark on comfort; the windows were left open during the evening and we both got the chills. To say we were disappointed is an understatement for how much we paid.

We had the most amazing/delicious dinner experience at ahi tonight. Our dinner definitely exceeded our expectations. Service was extremely attentive, friendly, professional and efficient. Each dish was delicious and the restaurant itself just lovely. The scampi corn dog is a must try!

This is the best restaurant in NZ for modern NZ flavours. Everyone should eat here at least once. That's all you need to know. Innovative cooking, presentation and flavours, with great set menu options and a flexible a la carte to give you more choices. Good cocktail and wine menu. Sitting at the benches over the kitchen is ridiculously entertaining for food nerds, and the menu is outstanding. Look, do yourself a favour. Go here and find out what all the other NZ restaurants will be doing in 5 year's time.

Exceptional experience. We are both massive foodies and have fairly high expectations but they were met here. Every course seemed well considered and had a unique character to it. The service was exceptional, the food came out at a great pace, the wine pairing was very well tailored to the dishes. Hands down one of the best food experiences we’ve had.

Great ambience, service is good, food waiting time too long between each course. Beautiful food, Unfortunately Quail undercooked, fish smells very strong, blue cod is very tender, but used wrong herb, make fish smell bad. Tuna tuna is fantastic. Oyster fresh and tasty.

Man what an eye opener and where have you been all my life. Couldn't fault anything tonight. We felt really spoilt and service was hands down some of the best I've seen, maybe I don't get out enough? Drinking water was never empty, we chose to sit near kitchen and was not disappointed. Chefs are as interactive as you want them to be. We were given some menu options but with little encouragement decided on the 'trust us option' and it delivered, and as delivered server very informative and helpful. We also tried some craft beers, and what is great, we feel like we're supporting local as I think most of the product is locally sourced (NZ wide). We left more than satisfied and are definately coming back even for the great service.

Wait time was quite long, around 2.5hours for dinner, we almost fell asleep. Although presentation was fantastic, the food was either really salty or under seasoned. Drinks were also quite average. However, Atmosphere is great! Recommend for special occasions, plus when you are not in a rush!

Great food and presentation. and good city view. It took long time to get food ordered and more food ordered as the restaurant was full even though it was Monday night hence a booking is a must. Love that they have a long list of wine and staff who was kind to explain what orange wine is and what the difference is of each wine we chose :) Pricewise if this helps, we (three girls) spent $430 for a couple of dishes to share with a bottle of wine.

Beautiful looking food with excellent service and atmosphere. However, when it comes to taste, it's quite underwhelming. They had all the elements of good, well thought out dishes but nothing seemed to go too well together.

One of the most well rounded experience I've had. The trust us option has got to be the best value and most varied way of trying out all the amazing dishes this place has to offer. The consistency in the high quality and the medley of every single dish was out of this world. They did incredibly well to take you on a journey from the start to the finish. Not to mention the ingenuity of the flavours and the freshness of the ingredients. Often gathered by the head chefs themselves! In the case of the deer which was just shot the week before!

Chris was amazing! Having a very memorable experience as I just chowed down their oysters, tartare and butterfish. I haven’t been this moved by a meal for a while. Keep up the good work Ahi! I’m sorry I am off to a flight, would have loved to try your sister restaurant!

Great experience dining here, the mains were exquisite but the star of the show for us was really the desserts! The naked mallowpuff was divine and as was the pineapple. To round it all off, the service was friendly, warm and professional and the views stunning (roadworks aside, of course). We will definitely be back!

  • 5/5 Mariah T. 1 year ago on Google
Such a treat. We had great service, and a lovely time. Everything was delicious. And all had such fun twists that surprised and delighted. The unusual winner was the boil up. But one sip of the broth said it all. Impressive amounts of flavour, with a myriad of components that all somehow worked and complemented each other.

Absolutely incredible food at Ahi, everything was so delicious! We had the Wallaby Tartare and BBQ Octopus which really got our taste buds going! For mains I chose the fish of the day, I must say while the fish was incredibly nice and very tasty, I had massive food envy when I saw my friends lamb and pork dishes come out and can't wait to come back to try these out!

Beautiful views over the harbour and nearby Britomart Station building. We came here for our Xmas lunch and had the set menu which was more than plentiful. Ruby served us and was friendly throughout. The scampi corn dogs are a must try!!! I really enjoyed the mushroom ketchup with potatoes too. The wallaby had a lovely level of spice to it. One of the top restaurants in Auckland.

A very exciting menu !!! Really loved the concept and the use of seasonal ingredients. Their notorious dish -scampi Corndogs is a must ! And their fried potatoes(side dish) were delicious and crispy, my most memorable dish

I had the pleasure of being part of Ahi dining experience thanks to my wonderful host to made lunch arrangements here. We had the tasting menu with wine pairing and it was every flight was superb, My favorites' where the eel, beef tartare, Beef but everything was superb and it was hard to choose anyone over the other. Every dish presented was the chefs take on the unique local New Zealand dishes and snacks, the palette cleanser was an ice lolly which is reminisced of a childhood New Zealand Snack. The service was superb, the staff knowledge was in depth on the dishes they had to offer and also the wine pairing that went well with each dish. Truly a great restaurant to visit when one is in Auckland

Lovely setting, beautifully presented food with exceptional attention to detail and excellent service. We had the degustation which was an excellent choice with a perfect balance of components. A few of the courses were less successful than they should have been and on the whole I would say they do fish, seafood and vegetables to perfection but the meat dishes were less successful. But overall it was an incredible dining experience.

Delicious food served in unique beautiful presentation. Made with New Zealand ingredients using exceptional international culinary techniques. Very welcoming attentive waiter who made our dinning experience very pleasant. Well versed restaurant skills, and knowledge of the food being served. Wish I got the gentleman’s name. He was fantastic!!! Atmosphere is quiet in the early evening but got more noisy as the evening progressed. This was in the middle of the week and it was fully booked. Very lively feel. Got busy experiencing delicious food, forgot to take some other food photos. Highly recommend!

Everything we had here was amazing! The Scampi Corn Dog, the Wallaby Tartare, oyster and venison dishes were incredible. We sat at the chef bar and everything coming. Out of the kitchen looked great. Fun experience!

New Zealand doesn't have a Michelin star but we wanted to try one of the fine dining experiences in Auckland. Ahi was recommended to us and the main appeal is that they use locally sourced organic ingredients. A few dishes were great (especially the gamey deer which was tender), some were good. The servers were nice and friendly. However, it took them 3+ hours to serve 8 dishes and we were starving waiting for our first dish which took them a while. Would have liked if they could serve some bread or appetizer immediately in the beginning alongside drinks. Overall, it's nice but would try out some other place next time.

We really enjoyed our food at Ahi yesterday, very well presented and a positive experience all round. Waiheke oysters were very tasty, massive oysters. Wallaby tartar was great, wagyu for my main was delicious. Fantastic wine and cocktails as well, thanks Ahi 🙌

Beautiful views of harbour, good ambience, impressed with the table service with speed and knowledge if menu. The food was beautifully presented, and each mouthful was savoured. Well done to the whole team.

We went to Ahi's for lunch today on the way back from Waiheke. We were early, however were attended to well. The meals and wine were of excellent quality, albeit small in quantity. One dish we ordered, was octopus, although identified as an entree, we asked if it could be served as a main which was explained to us as not a problem. However when it came out it was still pretty meagre more like an entree. The price for this dish was was invoiced at $48.00 and was very expensive. Having said that it was very very nice. The rest of the meals were fabulous. I have given this a rating of 4 stars based on the octopus meal, otherwise it would by 5 star, no problem. Prices are Ahi's are very much on the high side, expect to pay for a lunch for 3 people in the order of $150.00 here, and that is without going over the top.

  • 5/5 Nick H. 1 year ago on Google
Ahi is amazing. Straight off the bat, the first thing you notice is how outstanding the service is. From the minute you sit down, the wait staff are attentive, and you are set up with a drink and snacks within a few minutes. That level of service remains consistent throughout the entire evening. The scampi corn dogs are next level - and I mean for real next level. Thick, luscious, with like a szechuan bigmac dipping sauce. We ordered 2 rounds. Only surprising downside is they dont say what price they are. Literally, all the items on that menu page have prices, and the corn dogs just say ?? Like what? See menu pics. We have the octopus entree and the blue cod (market fish) main. Octopus was outstanding and would order again. Beautiful char, great accompaniments and the perfect combination of textures. I could have had 2 servings of that and been done. The market fish was good, however slightly offputting in that it came in the format of a cod sausage. Nice, however now I know what it's like I would order something else in future. We had a side of the crispy potatoes with mushroom ketchup with the mains and that was 8/10 delicious would eat again. We had desserts to finish which were lovely but were standard dessert fare - nothing especially amazing to write about. Dont get me wrong they were exactly as good as the menu alluded to - I dont have a sweet tooth so nothing much to write about, nothing to complain about. During the meal we commented frequently about how good the service was and that is a standout memory, along with the ambience and the food. An easy 5/5.

Possibly my favourite meal I have had in my life. Food was almost overwhelmingly delicious, creative and fun. Every bite was somehow different but better than the last from start to finish. Getting to watch over the kitchen was fascinating and despite having a fairly busy night, and being a high pressure job, all the staff from the chefs to the wait staff to front of house were approachable, friendly and made the experience even better. I can’t fault anything I had tonight, thanks to everyone working at Ahi today - what an absolute pleasure to get to dine here. Thanks!

Wow was an experience, food was so delicious. Definitely a must try if you’re in NZ. I’m a self proclaimed foodie and I really enjoyed the entree and starter, the mains were a little anticlimactic but still tasted good. Probably a one time experience for me because of the price point but I guess that’s fine dining. Overall I’m happy I got to experience it and I can now tick Ahi off my restaurant wish list!

What an amazing food experience! Absolutely enjoyed the long degustation dinner and every dish as native New Zealand, cooked (or not!) to perfection. What a talented chef, what a fantastic menu and what a meal!!

  • 5/5 Douglas A. 7 months ago on Google
This is a great Auckland restaurant. The food focus is on local NZ produce with the cooking style varied. We had a trust the chef degustation menu. Good value at $165 per head for 8 courses plus. The staff were efficient and very accommodating of a few dietary requirements.

  • 5/5 Alison 10 months ago on Google
Stopped by for dinner and had a fabulous meal. This is one of those dining experiences where you really want to take your time enjoying your meal because every single thing on the plate will have very distinct flavours because they were all seasoned differently. I ordered the scampi corn dog, the kingfish starter and the wild-shot red deer. Everything tasted great. I know the scampi corn dog is what the restaurant is known for, but to be honest I thought the other dishes on the menu were the more exciting to eat because of the mix of flavours. In any case, I would definitely recommend dining here.

  • 5/5 Jessica C. 1 year ago on Google
Food and ambiance was amazing!! Service was great too, helpful staff and short wait for food. Would definitely go back. Highlight was definitely the scampi corn dogs. We also got the octopus, clams, quail, deer and Argos potatoes with mushroom ketchup.
