A lovely park with pond, close to Motat, Auckland Zoo, and the Western Springs Stadium. Just make sure that you aren't wandering around after sunset; as there are plenty of dodgy people lurking around once it gets dark. You can find plenty of swans, ducks and pokeko. You will also find some chickens and a few geese. Parking is very challenging during the day, especially on a good sunny day.

We stopped by for a few afternoons to do a walk around the lake. There are quite a few places to park from the multiple entrances to the park. There is a big parking lot across the road on Great North Road. There are a few paths that all eventually go to the pathway around the lake. It is quite a nice walk around the lake, where you have to go over a few fish. There are plenty of animals to see in the area like the swans, ducks, koi and eels. Most of the paths are easy to walk along. There is a playground near the zoo end of the park which is new and quite large. There are also quite a lot of grassy areas to sit down on as well as seats and tables for picnics or rests. Spring is a nice time to walk since you see the baby birds all around the park.

Beautiful park brimming with both flira and fauna. Walk around the lake and go see the trees in their autumn colours or go bird watching with swans, coots, ducks, and pukeku.

Great place where to spend your afternoon. Park area is big, so you can have a nice hike around. As park is full of birds, you will see a lot of different species. If you are lucky enough, you might be able to see bird feeding, what will gather all the birds around the park. Lot of BBQ places around for family picnic.

here are plenty of opportunities to view birds up close, including ducks, geese and pūkeko. I alway enjoy so much to see and play with the them, to feel the the bird life. What a treat to walk through the huge lawn playing with the birds, walk along with lake seeing how the swans play & fight. but please do not feed them. Feeding them unsuitable food, like bread, can cause poor nutrition and spread disease. It artificially increases the size of the population and leads to overcrowding, and unnatural and aggressive behaviour. It is the real healing Center of the city.

I like the ducks but the geese were a bit mean. The pukekos just wanted my friendship for some seed which leaves me a bit bitter but I made some pigeon friends who are a little chatty although I dont know what they are saying. The chickens are cool. Eels were looking good. Swans there are lots of swans but they hiss a lot. All up nice place

If you like birding then this a great place to see lots of bird life. There are shags, paradise shelducks, nz scaup ducks, nz dabchicks, white faced herons, pukeko, spur-winged plovers, tui, fantails, Australian coots, grey warblers, gulls, geese, swans and many more! Recommend visiting during spring/early summer to see all the chicks as they start to explore 😊

It’s new and it’s huge. Awesome place to take the kids for a weekend play day. Lots of activities for big and smaller kids, they are seperate areas so it’s safer for smaller children. Being next to the Zoo and Western Springs makes it super easy to switch to something else if you get bored of the playground itself. If you’re planning to go, just know you can’t park next to the park, gotta park on Great N Road or Motions Road and walk to the playground - it also gets REALLY busy on the weekend so plan your visit.

Very short walk and not as long as it used to be. But a nice day to be out with the family.

It was really lovely to take in the lake & scenery at western springs. Even more enjoyable after seeing all the effort gone into cleaning it. Also witnessing the effort put in to keep the water at the correct level by the maintenance team doing the repairs to the retaining walls was really awesome too. Great job guys! What I ddnt realize was the change in the feeding regulations for the "springs". Seeing the posts that encouraged people to feed the birds birdseed etc only, instead of bread, came as a complete shock to me. (That shows you how long since we've been down there!) But it was great to have those posts there so we could be informed. So even though we did bring bread, we followed the guidelines and crumbled it to a very fine crumb before feeding the birds the bread ON LAND and NOT in the water. You can also see the kids playground has had a few upgrades because it was well utilized by all the children. So well done to the team who are in charge of maintenance and care of this site! Kudos to you all for all your hard work!

Great place to spend a couple of hours out and about with the kids or walking the dog, you can feed the geese and swans and ducks here, also walk around the lake and see if you can spot any of the beautiful Color goldfish or koi carp in the lake. There’s a playground and a number of free barbecues and picnic tables. Beware the geese bite when you run outta bread to feed them.
